East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Could you be a volunteer? East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) provides care and support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year for children and young people with life-threatening conditions and their families across Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk. There’s lots going in Bury St Edmunds, and wider Suffolk, to raise awareness of EACH as well as vital funds, including a sponsored Reindeer Relay where we’re enlisting schools to don a pair of antlers to support our cause.

As a participating school you’ll be given a lovely cuddly Reindeer to keep as your mascot for the month of December. We’re inviting schools to organise their own event either in the school playground or in the school hall, having each child take their turn in carrying the reindeer around your chosen route or obstacle course before handing the reindeer on to their classmate. During December you could take photos of your Reindeer and let us

know what he gets up to throughout the Christmas period, either in the school or in the local community. These photos will be given a dedicated page on our website and tweeted regularly to see the crazy things they get up to! Once you’ve signed up we will send you a pack with hints and tips to make the most of your event with game instructions, sponsorship forms and your cuddly reindeer!

The EACH Carol Service returns to Bury St Edmunds this year at St Edmundsbury Cathedral following the success of last years’ inaugural event. Taking place on Thursday 27th November at 6pm, to coincide with the start of Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre, you can marvel at the splendour of the cathedral’s gothic architecture while enjoying traditional carols and contemporary Christmas songs. With performances from local school choirs, entrance is free of charge with a retiring collection in aid of EACH. Join us on the first day of the Christmas Fayre for a 45 minute family service to get you in the Christmas spirit before you browse the stalls for your Christmas goodies! If you’re interested in these events or initiatives, or are interested in volunteering, please call Nikki Brown, EACH Suffolk Fundraiser, on 01473 276 195 email nikki.brown@each. org.uk . The Fireplace Centre Over past years, Fireplaces and Wood Burning Stoves have come back in to their own as the focal point of many rooms and for both contemporary modern homes as well as traditional period properties, there are stunning designs to suit all tastes. There is so much scope in style and finish for fireplaces today and one of the best places to realise the truth of this is at the new relocated showrooms of “The Fireplace & Plaster Centre” at Brunel Way in Thetford.Established in 1993, they can offer the consumer professional advise on the most suitable choice of Fireplace & Stove for their home, being the only HETAS Approved retailer in Norfolk & North Suffolk. Here choice has never been greater, with Surrounds manufactured from Marble, Limestone, Sandstone, Solid Timbers and Cast Iron, all in different sizes and designs, including Period to Traditional styles through to more Modern and Contemporary styles, offering superb finishes to any rooms. Here you will find over 60 displays complimented by a superb range of Wood Burning & Multi-Fuel Stoves, natural looking coal effect gas fires, as well as a vast range of Electric Fires. There are even Gas Fires if you have no chimney. This is an ideal place to find new ideas to give your home that very individual look with the addition of a new

fireplace which can even be made bespoke to your requirements. They offer a full and professional installation service, having their own In-House HETAS installers, which has to comply with the current building regulations. Anybody wishing to have a Solid Fuel Appliance installed must have the installation carried-out by an installer who is HETAS registered so as to conform to building regulations, if not, approval from local building control must be sought, which can sometimes be more costly than having “The Fireplace & Plaster Centre” do the work Failure to carry out this will result in your building & contents insurances possibly becoming invalid. The company also offer a professional Chimney Sweeping Service, from their NACS trained In-House engineers, using the latest PowerSweeping equipment, which is much more thorough than traditional methods, giving a cleaner and more efficient flue. www.fireplaceandplastercentre.co.uk

Wade Windows Suffolk company offer a full range of window & doors, plus much more! Wade Windows are members of The League of Professional Craftsmen and of FENSA who are the governing body for the new Building Regulations Part L. They have a dealership with one of the most experienced manufactures of PVCu windows and doors.

• Standard B rated window • Secured by Design optional extra Composite doors are a modern twist on the more traditional looking wooden front doors, similar to PVCu panels in that they come in a wide range of styles, designs and colours but utilising a 44mm thick, fully insulated door slab rather than a 28mm standard panel.

They offer The Super Fortress, Internally Beaded Window range, which is a state of the art technology, offering high security and peace of mind. With a fully contoured outer frame, sash and glazing bead the Super Fortress™ 70 will enhance the appearance of any home, and with low sightline grey weather seals and a multi chambered construction the window will also provide an excellent barrier against the British weather, improving both heat and noise insulation.

The main advantage of a composite door over a standard panel door are that they are more substantial, being 44mm thick rather than 28mm thick and therefore have the appearance of a more traditional timber front door rather than a plastic panel door. However because of the materials used they have all the benefits of a panel door, i.e. they will not warp, rot, twist, bow or crack and never need painting!

Features include: • High security internal beading • Contoured frame, sash and glazing bead • Multi point shootbolt locking • Key locking handles • Low sightline grey gaskets • Double weather seals

Wade Windows offer the complete range from the more traditional Victorian and Edwardian designs to the modern Sun Lounge design, so no matter how you intend to use your conservatory, style comfort and peace of mind are assured, in a design that is exclusively yours.
