eath has come in many guises to the citizens of Diss. During the General Strike of 1926 a man volunteered to help run the trains. Climbing up to fetch coal, he was killed as the engine went under the Rose Lane bridge.

This was also the fate of a drunken American serviceman in WW2. He climbed on top of a train and was decapitated at the same spot. Louie Bryant was mysteriously stabbed to death in 1829, in what has ever since been known as Louie’s Lane. When the red-coated British army was overrun by the Zulus at the Battle of Isandhlwana in 1879, one of the soldiers was from DissPhotographer Cleer Alger,Junior, and his son Charles were killed when the brakes on their car failed when going down a steep hill on the way to Stratford-onAvon in 1903.The open-topped Wolseley hit the bank at 50mph and they were both thrown out. In the cemetery there is the grave of a man who drowned in the sewerage works. Mere drownings also feature on several gravestones. Evacuee brothers Raymond (9) and Tony Coles (7) went through the ice just after Christmas 1944. Stuston-born Spencer Keeley was Chief Wireless Operator on the R101 airship, losing his life when it plunged into a French hill in 1930. One of the most freakish deaths was caused by an inexperienced army lorry driver. He failed to brake effectively at Crown corner and hit a pedestrian standing opposite. Next to where CopyDiss now is, there was a man-shaped hole in the wall afterwards.

eptember 2016 the above question was answered in the negative by the Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber) for Mrs. Iveta Nemcova.
S
She owned a 99-year Lease of a one bedroomed flat in Enfield, and occasionally let it out on shor t lettings mainly to business visitors working in London. The Lease contained a restriction not to use the premises “…………….for any purpose whatsoever other than as a private residence”. A similar restriction was contained in the leases of the other flats in the block. The freehold owner of the building and Landlord applied to the First Tier Tribunal (Lands Chamber) for a determination that Mrs. Nemcova had breached the restriction in the Lease because it was alleged the shor t-term lettings were using the flat otherwise than “as a private residence”. The First Tier found in favour of the Freeholder Landlord and Mrs. Nemcova appealed that decision.
On Appeal, it was found that the lettings which had taken place which were restricted to days or a few weeks at a time could not enable a shor t term tenant to be using the flat as a “private residence” and upheld the First Tier funding. The Judge said that each case would be “fact specific” and the final determination may var y from case to case but this decision does show clearly that shor t-term lettings would infringe a similarly drafted restrictive clause. If you own a long lease and plan to sublet it out on shor t or longer terms, it would be advisable to seek legal advice on any restrictions in the Lease which might thereby be infringed and put you at risk of costly enforcement proceedings by the Landlord. It’s true that we are all living longer and this has put significant pressure on families’ financial planning. It’s not just the long year s of retirement that need to be funded, there’s also the prospect of an increasing number of us needing to pay for care at some stage.
Having established the difference a life event can make on your finances, an adviser can then explore ways to mitigate the issues created. We can show, for example, the effect of an Immediate Care Plan to provide a top-up to pension income to cover care fees using a one-off payment. This type of plan is a form of annuity, individually underwritten, and its use can help protect the remainder of your estate from erosion, allowing you some cer tainty about the amount you will be able to leave to your heirs on your death.
Good financial planning will allow you to look at what life may throw at you and factor in all the possible challenges to your wealth. NORFOLK AMATEUR DRAMA SOCIETY Cinderella Production at Wymondham Central Hall n Saturday 7th Januar y, Norfolk Amateur Drama Society put on their ver y fir st production, Cinderella at Wymondham Central Hall.

With the group open to children from 10-18 year s of age the pressure was on to perform to a sell-out audience . The children didn’t disappoint, from the ver y beginning they had the crowd cheering and laughing and with the help of the huge per sonality of 11 year old Buttons played by Bradley Elliott the audience were made to feel at ease from the off. Many reviews have commented on the quality of the Ugly Sister s, played by George Cooke (14) and Louis Miller (15) with many not even realising they were male until half way through the show! Their ad lib when things didn’t quite go to plan was outstanding including their constant teasing of a male member of the audience. Audi TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI Quattro S Line S tronic
By Tim Barnes-Clay – Motoring Journalist - @carwriteups udi is a car-maker of quality. From the strong, yet sophisticated, lines of its models to the flawless interiors, the German firm always delivers. The TT Coupe is no exception.
A
The current TT Coupe arrived in Britain in 2015. It looks angrier and is almost the same length as its forerunner, though its wheelbase has expanded, making for shor t overhangs. The TT Coupe 2.0 TFSI 230 PS S Line S tronic, under review here, has a vir tual cockpit, which is based around a sizeable high resolution LCD display. It fills the instrument binnacle and supersedes the time-honoured analogue dials. It’s mar vellous and clear as day.
You can cherr y-pick between two display settings: in the ‘classic’ view, the rev counter and speedometer are in the forefront. Then in ‘infotainment’ mode the vir tual instr uments are smaller. The area that becomes free therefore provides sufficient room for other functions, such as the navigation map. At the lower edge of the Audi vir tual cockpit, the displays for time, outside temperature and mileage are perpetually visible. The Audi TT is comfy and the Alcantara and leather super spor ts seats are hiphuggingly suppor tive. The 2.0 TFSI 230 PS S Line S tronic also has manual climate control with functionality ingeniously incorporated into the air vents. www.DispatchMagazine.co.uk
MOTORING Other interior tech highpoints include: a music interface with Bluetooth connectivity, a touch pad for finger tip data input, and keyless go. Outside the cabin, attractive alloy wheels adorn the TT. Mine was fitted with 19-inch five-spoke ‘Blade’ design wheels. These are optional and cost £450 – but they do look awesome. Other features fitted include spor ts suspension; xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and a speed-dependent active rear spoiler. As a 2+2 seater, the Audi TT Coupe is a spor ts car that is suitable for real-world use. My three-year-old daughter sat in the rear, but you’ll probably use the back seats as an area to keep superfluous shopping. That said, with a load area capacity of 305 litres - 13 litres more than the old TT – the boot space is practical enough to load in a tot’s buggy – or a couple of flight cases. Behind the wheel, the first thing I noticed about the Audi TT is how well it drives. The 1984cc, 230PS petrol powerplant is domesticated in urban environments, but it’s still hard to disguise the rasping clout waiting to be set free. Open up the TT on the straights and you’re pressed into your seatback. Zero to 62mph arrives in an eyeball yanking 5.3 seconds and the top speed is 155mph. The ride is firm, but not unpleasantly so, and the steering has a good weight to it, while the dual-clutch automatic transmission changes seamlessly. What’s more, the car grips like glue in the corners – thanks to its all-wheel-drive ‘Quattro’ set-up.

Driving from Kettering in Northamptonshire to Lincoln - a journey of 76 miles - I averaged 38mpg. That’s not at all bad, considering how heavy my right foot can get on the A1. Fully kitted out, as my review car was, with luxuries such as heated seats and an LED interior lighting package, the price-tag came to £44,095. The on-the-road basic cost is nearer to £37,000. That’s an acceptable price to shell out when you take into account what a well-made, entertaining car the Audi TT Coupe is. www.DispatchMagazine.co.uk
