It is with much pride that we have expanded our distribution of magazines over the years, from 3,000 copies in 2001 to over 50,000 copies today and it is full steam ahead for our passionate team. With the addition of Norfolk On My Mind Magazine and Suffolk On My Mind Magazine to our company’s portfolio, together with FineCity Magazine which covers Norwich, we are constantly challenging larger publishing houses and paid-for magazines titles. In this edition of Dispatch Magazine, you will see we have combined both our publications to become one larger edition bringing you news events and businesses from across our market towns. The renowned Old Buckenham Airshow is featured on page 10, news from our nominated charity EACH is brought to you on page 20 and we have a wonderful interview with David Kingsley, Director of Jonathan Trumbull, Hatters and Ginger starting on page 30.

K E RRY BUTCHER Local financial advice ello! We here at KBA are excited to be part of the new look Dispatch! And doesn’t it look smart? In case you hadn’t noticed, its summer, and we are fast approaching the end of the school academic year and the long summer holidays. Lazy days filled with fun and trips out but also stressful days if you are a working parent trying to organise child care for 6 + long weeks. If you are a working parent then chances are you also have the joy that is tax credits – if this is you then don’t forget the official deadline for renewing your claim - 31 July 2017 – make sure that you do renew before this date – or you could lose your whole entitlement. If you complete self assessment tax returns – but your figures are not ready yet – don’t panic – you can estimate your profits at any time as long as you advise of the actual figures by 31 January 2018. If you are a lovely KBA client,(or even if you are not yet but want to be!) then we will be only too happy to help you estimate. We would always suggest caution when estimating profit, don’t go too low as it’s much nicer to receive a lump sum to increase your award when you have your actual figures, rather than find that the payment that you had and have already spent or allocated, is actually all you are getting for the year – or even worse, you need to pay some back. A great many renewal claims are now completed online which is great news, much quicker and easier to manage. But they can still be tricky so if you need a hand, please feel free to come and talk to us – authority is required however. July is also the month for making second payments on account. HMRC are getting ahead this year and have already sent out statements of account requesting payments. Make sure that this amount is correct before you pay it – sometimes these are not completely up to date. It is definitely worth completing a quick reconciliation to make sure that the amount stated is the amount that you owe – don’t over pay and if you are not sure how much you owe or what needs to be paid, then why not check with your tax advisor? We are always happy to check tax accounts and amounts due for any of our clients, so please do give us a call or an email or just pop in, we will always check this for you. A great many of us are now being affected by the pension regulations which have been phased in. Many of the “smaller” employers have now reached their staging dates. If you are getting close to yours, don’t despair and don’t assume that you are going

to have to pay a huge amount of money to be compliant. It is always very important that you choose a pension scheme that you think will suit your employees and your business, but the government NEST scheme is free to join as an employer and the initial contributions are fairly low for employers and employees alike. If you are an employer, however small, even if you employ just one person, the rules still apply – but don’t worry – there are always people out there who can help you to choose the best scheme for you. Once you have chosen your scheme then your payroll advisor should be able to help you every step of the way. Here at KBA we have been helping our employers for a couple of years now and I think I can speak for most of them when I say that it was not nearly as costly or as onerous as they had feared. If you are worried about payroll and pensions this is just one of the many services we provide here at KBA so why not give us a call or an email to start the ball rolling. Finally we just wanted to say a big thank you to all of our clients, old and new for your loyalty and being well just lovely. We love what we do here at KBA but we couldn’t do this without you our clients – so thank you for choosing us – we appreciate your loyalty and your support. Oh and if you are passing the office on a nice hot sunny day – don’t forget to buy us an ice- cream!

O L D BUCKE NHA M A I R SH OW The ultimate family day out he Award - Winning Old Buckenham Airshow yet takes place at the end of the month, on the 29th and 30th July. Now the biggest Airshow in Norfolk and Suffolk, Old Buckenham was the only Airshow to make the Country Life list of the ‘100 Events of the Greatest Summer Ever’ in 2012. Since then the show’s reputation has grown, providing unforgettable memories.
10
One such happened in 2015 when movie history was made when Hollywood star Honor Blackman was reunited with her James Bond ‘Goldfinger’ co-star helicopter after a 50 year wait, something that other, far larger, shows had attempted for years. The Airshow’s credentials as a great family day out were underlined in 2016 when it was awarded the EDPHoseasons Tourism Awards coveted “Family Event of the Year” award. Accompanied kids under 12 always go free at Old Buckenham and
there is plenty for all the family when they arrive. This year the show is adding nappy changing facilities to help new parents, for example. A large funfair is complemented by Tank rides. Only the best quality, reasonably priced local foods are available, thanks to the exclusive Food Village. The show also offers a unique mix of ways to take to the sky; choose from a first flying lesson aboard a Piper PA-28 (one of the most highly regarded and

popular light aircraft in the world) or an icon in the form of a 1940’s Boeing Stearman Biplane. Slightly more sedate, but no less fun, is the chance to take a ride in an executive helicopter. New for 2016, you can go flying but keep both feet on the ground with a session in the latest, state of the art, simulator. In amongst all this are trade stands, hundreds of classic cars, the new 453rd Museum, war memorial and a host of other exciting distractions. Every year one-off real ales are brewed to celebrate the Airshow. Only available at the show, the range will be larger than ever this year and all served from the Attack & Destroy Bar, named for the motto of the 453rd Bombardment Group for which Old Buckenham was built in 1942. The bar will be open all weekend, including the evening entertainment; this year in the Blister Hangar Saturday night will see the return of the legendary Scratch Band.
12
In the air, many will be delighted to hear that the unique and iconic ‘Sally B’ Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress will return for the second year in succession. The star of Memphis Belle is an extraordinary 25 ton castle in the sky and her visit marks one of only a handful of times that a four engined US bomber has come back to Old Buckenham since World War 2. Whilst Sally B is one of the most famous aircraft in the world, arguably the single most famous will return to the show for a record sixth time. Spitfire MH434, star of a myriad of Hollywood blockbusters and the only flying Spitfire to have never been fully restored, will come back for another unforgettable display. For the first time in a decade, the Airshow will feature the three most iconic fighters; the Spitfire, Hawker Hurricane and P-51 Mustang. The Airshow will also see the return of the extraordinary Brendan O’Brien. Licensed
to fly every type of flying machine in existence, Brendan (start of Discovery Wings’ Flightline) will be attempting to land on a trailer moving along the runway in his Piper Cub (a feat seen at the show in 2013) as well as showing off his new friend, Otto the Helicopter, a firm favourite with kids in the US for years. Otto is the only helicopter to have a set of toys including a 3 foot yoyo. He also has a big smiley face and, guided by Brendan, will perform all manner of tricks which every other helicopter simply cannot do. Buying advance tickets online is strongly advised. Not only is there a saving on the gate price, but ticket holders are guaranteed entry for a show which is predicted to be a sell out. More information: www.oldbuckenhamairshow.co.uk. DISS M USE U M By Basil Abbott n television they have lots of programmes about people on desert islands, or in some outof-their-comfort-zone situation. Ordinary folk are put to the test to see how they will cope and how well they can work together as a team. groups are doing it as well. How would you make yours stand out and avoid the blooming obvious?”
Local societies and individuals already provide the objects for this but the displays are put together by our staff. We could approach an existing group, or advertise for members, or invite people individually to join in.
We have all been to deadly museums where the items are just plonked in the case with no imagination.
The Corn Hall, for instance, has activities for young people, and it would be a partnership opportunity. We could give them the materials, a limited budget, some basic instruction in technique and let them get on with it. “Imagine five other

We tend to use Arial font for captions, which need to be at least 18 point in print size. Reading matter should be at adult eye level and should be no more than 100 words. Objects can be put on shelves or plinths or suspended from
the top of the case. Our display on the old Diss Hospital was made striking by the inclusion of a skeleton. One on the Lost Sweetshops of Diss used old-fashioned sweet jars and football cards. We wouldn’t make anything out of it, but it would be a way of doing something in the community and could get press coverage. We could even have a little ‘do’ for the public, friends and family to see and comment on their work. They could even make their own video record of it, something that they do at the Corn Hall. Rather than letting it disrupt the normal life of the museum we could invite the public in to see how they were getting on Even if there is no opportunity of doing it at the moment, we could bear it in mind for a later date. SOUND SLE E P 7 Steps to a better night’s sleep our Bedroom - In order to get a restful night’s sleep you need the right setting, which means a clean, peaceful and welcoming room. Many of us are unknowingly sleeping in a bedroom that’s simply not fit for purpose, and that environment could be the key cause of a restless night. When it’s time for bed, make your room completely dark. This can be achieved with a blackout blind or curtains, an additional window dressing, or even an eye mask. • Maintain an ambient temperature in your room. If you’re too hot or too cold, you won’t sleep soundly. We recommend a cool temperature of around 16-18° C (60-65° F). • A tidy room makes for a tidy mind… and a restful night’s sleep! • Say no to technology in the bedroom! That means avoiding televisions and computers. Having access to these will urge you to switch on when you can’t drift off, which in turn can lead to even more disturbed sleep. • LED displays are particularly troublesome when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep. When it’s time to snooze, switch off your mobile phone, tablet, and any alarm clocks with a digital display. • Avoid treating your bedroom like an extension of the rest of your house. That means you shouldn’t use it for work, watching TV, eating, and even talking on the phone. Save the bedroom for sleep and sex. • Avoid using certain colours when decorating. Remember that bright reds, yellows and oranges are jarring, while browns and whites are boring and drab. Instead, choose soft, muted tones that will make you feel calm. • Certain smells can affect your mood, helping you to feel more calm and relaxed. Lavender and germanium are
To advertise call 01953 456789
naturally calming, so invest in some essential oils to help you drift off. Your Bed - The foundation of a great night’s sleep is a comfortable bed. The right mattress can make a huge difference between a restful and restless night, saving you from fatigue and irritability for the rest of the day. An unsupportive mattress will encourage a poor sleeping posture, which prevents you from good sleep. If you regularly wake up with aches and pains, it’s probably time to change your mattress. There’s a huge amount of choice on the bed market, which can make selecting the right one difficult. It’s always worth doing your research! Here are some of the factors you should consider when selecting the best bed for you: • Always put quality above price. Of course, there are some perfectly acceptable low-priced mattresses available, but when it comes to your bed, spend as much as you can afford. • The right support is crucial. If your bed is too hard or soft, it will be uncomfortable and unsupportive. Your mattress should be firm enough to support your spine in the correct alignment while conforming to your body’s contours. • Always try before you buy! Lay down on each bed that you’re seriously considering, spending a good 10-15 minutes realising its comfort and support levels. Try several different positions (we all move 40-60 times per night), and remember that if two people will be sleeping on this mattress, test it out together. • Avoid waiting until your bed has ‘worn out’ completely. Research shows that sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress can rob you of up to one hour’s sleep per night, which adds up to a full night’s sleep over the course of a week! You should consider changing your bed after seven
years. Your lifestyle - The 21st century lifestyle is typically fast paced, chaotic and jam-packed with technology. From the moment we wake up we switch on our brains with smart phones, and as our day progresses, we’re presented with even more triggers. The continuous content that’s fed from TV and radio, real time social feeds and our constant checking of emails all make for a non-stop stimulation… It’s no wonder that many of us can’t switch off or fall asleep, then struggle to wake up in the morning and spend a lot of time complaining “I can’t sleep!” There are simple ways to adjust your lifestyle to promote a better night’s sleep. These minor changes will help you to wind down and relax, removing you from the hectic, technology-crammed world that we live in. • Reduce the intensity of artificial light in your home by using dimmer switches or low wattage bulbs. • Maintain a regular bedtime routine and sleep pattern. • Use a hot water bottle if you get cold. • Avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine before bed. • Switch off your tech a couple of hours before bedtime – that includes your phone! • Empty your bladder before bed, and try not to consume too many liquids before you sleep. • Don’t nap during the day. Some issues such as emotional distress, housing issues or debt problems will be more effectively dealt with by other professionals. We’ll also try to point you in the direction of other advice agencies – counsellors, financial advisors, support organisations – when appropriate, as practically speaking, the services they offer complement our role, and they can help resolve all the other, non-legal, issues that may come into play. At Jackamans we are happy to try to control costs – after all each of us can only do so much work in a week – perhaps by taking on only certain aspects rather than all issues, perhaps by the client doing some of the preparatory work themselves. The second King’s Lynn event for 2017 is on Sunday 17th September at The Walks. The Cork family entered the Norwich Colour Dash in memory of Finnbar, their five-year-old son who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in March 2016. Following a course of intensive treatment, Finnbar sadly died five months later. The family received care at the EACH Quidenham Hospice including end of life at support at home from the Symptom Management Team. A L MARY GR E E N Getting advice for pension planning ith greater flexibility in the way pension savings can be accessed, it is more important than ever to get advice both while building your pension pot and before you start spending it. Phil Beck explores the advice options available. Putting money aside for retirement has become more attractive for many people. Since pension freedoms came into force in April 2015, anyone over the minimum retirement age – currently 55 – can access as much of their pension savings as they like when they like, subject to paying any tax due. Before pension freedoms the most common approach to providing an income in retirement was to spend a large capital sum to buy an annuity,
26
securing an income for the rest of your life. However, under the new rules, you can now draw directly from your pot, leaving the remainder invested for potential growth. This has also meant that pension savings can be used for other purposes such as new cars, holidays or settling an outstanding mortgage. The new freedoms bring a wide range of possibilities for retirement planning, but they also bring with them a burden of responsibility as soon-to-be retirees sit down and decide exactly what to do with the pot that they have been building up over the years. This is a critical time for your planning: how do you ensure that your money can provide for the rest of your life, whilst factoring in any other spending that you
would like to make? The Government’s Pension Wise website will give you a starting point to understand your retirement options, but can’t give you specific advice that is tailored to your individual circumstances. A financial adviser can do this and will ensure that you understand the implications of any decisions you make. Financial advisers must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority and it is really important that you ensure that anyone giving you advice about pensions and retirement planning is properly authorised to do so. This not only gives you the confidence that the person giving the advice has the necessary qualifications and knowledge but will also give you the backing of the Financial Ombudsman and Financial Services

Compensation Scheme in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. The Government has recognised the importance of taking retirement advice and has introduced a facility to allow pension savers to draw up to £1,500 from their pension pot to pay for regulated advice. A maximum of £500 can be drawn to pay for advice at a time, on up to three occasions. The allowance can only be used once in any tax year but, importantly, can be used at any age. This can provide a useful means to check that your plans are on the right track at earlier stages in your working life as well as when making decisions immediately prior to retirement. The allowance is available to anyone who has defined contribution pension savings,

where you and your employer, if you have one, make contributions to the fund which is invested for growth. It isn’t available to anyone who is a member of an occupational or defined benefits scheme, where future retirement benefits are based on salary and length of service. Recent research has indicated that taking advice about your pension planning will boost your pension pot. It states that “UK savers who take advice save on average £98 more every month and receive an additional income of £3,654 every year of their retirement, based upon a pension pot of £100,000”.*

DAVID KINGSLEY Pete Goodrum meets David Kingsley, director of Jonathan Trumbull, Hatters and Ginger, to talk about clothes, business - and style.
DAVID KINGS LE Y Director of Jonathan Trumbull, Hatters & Ginger o begin this column I need to take you back. Back to a time when, if you were interested in clothes, you had little choice. It’s not a criticism of Norwich, our fine city, because back then, London aside perhaps, most cities in England were the same. As a man (I’ll come to the ladies later) you could go to the ‘Fifty Shilling Tailor’ or one of the staid establishments that your grandfather had used or, if you were looking for the cutting edge of style, there were a few high street shops that had at least acknowledged the cultural revolution of the 60s. Harry Fenton (“He dresses the Stars, why not you?’) had three branches in Norwich, but in truth by 1970 they

were clinging to the last vestiges of the mod movement with their 3 button, centre vented suits and tab collar shirts. Smart Weston had a natty line in knitwear. It’s true that the likes of Gaegen and (do you remember?) Campus, on the corner of Davey Place, had ratcheted up the style a bit, but it was all a bit, well, dull really. And then, above a tiny shop, at the bottom of St Stephens Street, there appeared a strange, new, name. Jonathan Trumbull arrived and lit a beacon of style that would outshine everybody else. The dark days were over. We’re in one of Norwich’s fashionable coffee shops, my editor Jonathan Horswell and I, to meet David Kingsley, a man who has been at the heart of the Trumbull
empire - because it has grown since those early days - from the outset. I begin, as I often do, by sketching in the background details, but when I ask where David was born there’s a sudden diffidence until he explains, ‘Sorry about this but I was actually born in (whisper it) Ipswich!’ We move on. David moved to Norwich when he was 12, and went to the Norwich School. ‘I joined in the January so I was a bit out of step, and needless to say that things were said about my crossing the border from …….Ipswich’. From school he went to London. And he went straight into the world of

menswear, working for the legendary shop The Village Gate. Named after New York’s Greenwich Village nightclub and jazz spot, this was the temple of Ivy League style, run by the guru of all gurus John Simons. David recalls heady, super-busy days of working in London retailers, shifting 80 to 100 suits a week, and receiving substantial pay rises on the strength of those sales! But, eventually, David returned to Norwich, where his father John Kingsley owned and was running Chadds in Bedford Street, Norwich which he had started in 1962. Brother Roger Kingsley had ideas for a new shop, and with Dad’s help, who financed the new venture, Roger opened Jonathan Trumbull, the name coming of an 18th century American politician. Interestingly they still have Americans visit the shop and ask about the name David tells me. Frankly it didn’t matter where the name came from. It was right. So right for the times. As was the shop itself. It wasn’t over lit - like most of the high street ‘boutiques’ of the time. It had a warm, muted, atmosphere and although small , it was packed with high quality, very stylish clothes. It was 1971 and menswear retailing in Norwich had just leapt lightyears ahead. We will talk more of how the empire has expanded but for the moment we digress into a mutually loved world of clothes, shoes and the names that go with them. David Kingsley knows everybody. The names are a litany of style. Paul Smith, (‘we were one of his first customers and still have his first business card’), Armani (‘Nobody in Norwich sold Armani before us’), Ralph Lauren (‘We’ve always remained loyal to his clothes’). There are tales of buying trips that range from little known but exquisite Italian tailors to a major name that was ‘the only collection show we ever left after a few minutes, and didn’t place an order with. It was just an outright ‘No!’ (I’m not saying who’s collection it was. I promised!) David has stories too of the cut and thrust - or should I say cut throat? - nature of 34

the menswear retailing business back when they started. Many were the renegotiated deals with wholesalers, and ferocious were the price wars. ‘It was’, he says, ‘different then’. It wasn’t long before Jonathan Trumbull had moved into larger premises just a few doors away. His brother Roger was, he admits, very much the front man of Trumbull’s. With his trademark long hair and stylish clothes he looked exactly like the sort of man you would trust to guide you on style. Not that David is in any way short of style. This is a man who wears his clothes with ease. He ooz-es style. He’s dressed today in a way that only a truly elegant man can. It’s a look that’s on the in-formal side of tailoring, but totally on the side of not having to try too hard. It’s just - right. By 1976 they’d opened Hatters, and then, in 1978, came Ginger. The strategy behind its launch is interesting. ‘We began to wonder if there was

room in Norwich for another menswear shop. We also realised that Van Gils for instance, a label we’d long been associated with, had a women’s collection. It was time to enter that market’. And when they did they brought the same magic they had to menswear.
director of the Trumbull’s store. ‘He had glandular fever and missed his first few days at work’, says David, before adding, that was over 40 years ago and to my knowledge he’s not had a day off sick since!’
Quality fabrics, high end labels, good designs, all in stylish premises and sold by people, just like Trumbull’s and Hatters always had, who kew about and cared about clothes.
I point out that Rod has sold me a string of suits, from the days of 3 piece single breasted and flared trousers, through the double breasted and, shall we say ‘generous in the shoulder’ styles, and on to current times. And every time I’ve walked in he’s greeted me like a friend. It’s - he’s - one of the things that makes the place special. Somewhere where the clothes and the customers transcend the fact that it’s a business.
If the number of shops now began to look like an empire, the business also has the mark of a dyn-asty. Founder of it all, John Kingsley (‘Don’t you dare mention his age!’) had started with Chadds. He’s still regularly on duty at the Bedford Street shop. It was Roger, who is now retired, who was the inspiration for Jonathan Trumbull and David for Hatters and Gingers. David’s daughter Rebecca runs Ginger and his wife Vivienne is actively involved in the business. And this is a business that values its staff, who they see as having a place in its future. A key play-er has to be Rod Canham, now a
When it comes to business we talk of the current climate. David admits, like so many retailers, that internet shopping has had some impact, and all of their shops now have a strong online presence. Also, there are of course more ‘high street’ competitors than there once were. ‘Honestly though, perhaps the biggest challenge we face is the way in which government drags its
www.DispatchMagazine.co.uk 35
heels on business rates. They’re a major issue for us’. It’s perhaps the only moment in our entire conversation where even a hint of negativity or pessimism creeps in. And it’s soon gone. In the very next breath David Kingsley tells me ‘It’s still enjoyable. Still exciting’. We talk - because we’re easily drawn back to the world of clothes and shoes - of what the shops in the group ‘stand for’. He’s expressive and genuinely passionate. ‘I love the idea that we sell quality, but above that, classic clothes. We honestly aren’t worried about high fashion. You can buy a piece from us and yes, it might, slightly, go in and out of style, but overall it’s something you can keep, forever. I could talk with David Kingsley forever. Maybe the finer points of an Armani shoulder’s cut, or why Bass Weejuns are important, or the weight of selvedge denim, aren’t things that everybody wants to converse about, (although I do), but it’s the fact that he, and his family, and his staff, know about these things that makes this group of shops so important. Their knowledge and enthusiasm is what drives their choice and selection. It’s about real style, and real quality, both of which will always win over quick fix transient fashion. It’s about the details. And it’s very much about the service. David Kingsley is checking his phone. Not impatiently, or impolitely. He’s been charm and good conversation personified. But it’s time for him to go. If you’ve gleaned more than a hint of my own enthusiasm from this article I’m glad. I’ve done my job. It’s been a pleasure to talk with this man. I’m drawn back to my earlier comment about his own style. It’s just right. So it is with the shops. And the staff. And the clothes they sell. All of it. It’s style. But it’s more than that. And if you understand these things you’ll know. It’s all, just, right. George Frazier, (no - not the boxer) the legendary American journalist and arbiter of style believed in clothes being right. He was a man who worshipped Miles Davis’ playing, but was just as enthu-siastic about his choice of shoes. He could tear into a politician, even a president, not for his views or policies, but because he had no style. For that, said George, there was no excuse. You have Trumbull’s, and Hatters, and Ginger. You have no excuse.

1. LOWESTOFT
The most easterly point in the UK, Lowestoft is a very family-friendly resort with miles of sandy beaches, as well as traditional seaside amusements, a pier, volleyball nets and plenty of fish and chip shops. The perfect place to go if you have the children in tow, there’s even a roller skating rink.
2. KESSINGLAND
Remarkably unspoilt and extremely spacious, the pretty coastal village of Kessingland is one of those Suffolk gems that few people know about. The beach is a mix of marshland, shingle and sand – ideal for birdwatching, fishing, or if you’re simply looking for a bit of peace and quiet (and the dog can even come too!).
3. COVEHITHE
Possibly the wildest and most beautiful of Suffolk beaches, Covehithe is off the beaten track and only accessible by foot or cycle. Driftwood forms lovely shapes protruding from the sand, while Covehithe’s unique church adds an element of the surreal. No facilities here; it’s just a glorious spot to truly get away from it all.

4. SOUTHWOLD
A very popular seaside town, which remains an eternal favourite with visitors and locals alike, the beach at Southwold is backed by a row of brightly-coloured beach huts, as well as its fabulous Victorian pier. A much-loved destination with those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle, be sure to take a stroll around town, watch a Punch and Judy show, and make the most of the putting greens and boating ponds.
5. WALBERSWICK
The unofficial crabbing capital of England, Walberswick is a great starting point to explore the Suffolk coast in all its natural beauty. The sandy dunes and marshes are fantastic for walkers, while the wide, wild beach is just the place for aspiring surfers and kite fliers. After a day’s crabbing, head to one of the pubs along the harbour for a local ale and some great home-cooked food.
6. DUNWICH
Once a prosperous seaport, Dunwich beach and the surrounding heath and woodland are one of Suffolk’s prize possessions, home to a plethora of rare plants and wildlife. Famous for its ghostly bells ringing from under the sea, don’t forget your camera when taking a walk along this idyllic stretch of coastline.
7. THORPENESS
An interesting place to visit at any time of the year, Thorpeness is a mainly shingle beach loved by dog walkers. The Peter Pan-inspired boating mere, mock Tudor buildings, unusual architecture (look out for the House in the Clouds) and acclaimed golf course to add to its magic.
8. ALDEBURGH
Famous for Maggi Hambling’s controversial Scallop sculpture, a tribute to local composer Benjamin Brittain, Aldeburgh is probably Suffolk’s most well-known seaside town. The vast pebble beach is simply stunning, while there are also several art galleries, restaurants, boutiques, as well as a cinema and summer theatre. Don’t leave without eating a bag of chips on the sea wall while admiring the view!
9. FELIXSTOWE
Full of exciting activities for all the family, Felixstowe offers windsurfing, crazy golf, open-air theatre performances, nature trails, historical re-enactments, arcade games on the pier, and an award-winning beach. Once a favourite with Edwardian society, enjoy an ice cream while taking in the delightful seafront gardens.
10. ORFORD NESS
Mysterious, wild and isolated, Orford Ness is a shingle spit that’s instantly recognisable due to its abandoned lighthouse and former military base. Now a National Nature Reserve, many rumours still surround Orford Ness’ strange past including tales of a covered-up Nazi landing and an infamous UFO sighting.

BRANCASTER
HUNSTANTON Sunny Hunny is a gently sloping beach with a mix of sand and pebbles. It is the only coastal town in East Anglia that faces west, making the beach relatively sheltered from sea breezes. Great for families, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy, from traditional donkey rides and boat trips, to surfing and walks along the famous Hunstanton cliffs.
This expansive stretch of flat, golden sand is a favourite all year-round. Rich in wildlife, it’s a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and you can see why! The miles of unspoilt beach are ideal for sandcastle building, paddling in the shallow lagoons, as well as dog walking. Be sure to quench your thirst with a stop-off at The Ship Hotel in the village.
HOLKHAM Made famous by the film Shakespeare In Love when actress Gwyneth Paltrow walks across the sand at low tide during the closing scenes, Holkham beach is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of the UK. Horseshoe-shaped, it is sheltered by a pine forest, and the yellow sands are so vast that when the tide is out, you get a real feeling of space.
WELLS-NEXT-THE-SEA Fantastic views, fish and chips, and the iconic, brightly-coloured beach huts make Wells a popular holiday destination throughout the year. The beach, a mile from the centre of town, is served by the Wells Harbour Railway, a 10 and a quarter gauge railway, which the kids will just love! There’s also the Beach Café here, serving light bites, snacks, drinks and ice creams. Don’t forget to go aboard the Albatros before you leave! One of the oldest sailing ships still afloat, it’s now a B&B, bar, restaurant and live music venue.
SHERINGHAM
CROMER
MUNDESLEY
An old-fashioned seaside town at heart, Sheringham is the perfect place to recharge your batteries, whether soaking up the salt spray, taking a steam train ride to nearby Weybourne, or indulging in a show at the much-loved Little Theatre. Among the glories of the area are the surrounding woodlands of Sheringham Park, with views out to sea, and bracken-covered undulating uplands, covered with golden gorse and purple heather.
Home of the Cromer crab, if you fancy some sea air, summer entertainment and a spot of crabbing, Cromer offers a wonderful family day-out. With plenty of traditional seaside attractions available, the beach is well-managed with lifeguards on patrol in summer. The pier is well-worth a stroll along, while tucking into a bag of chips from celebrity chef Galton Blackiston’s restaurant and takeaway, No. 1 Cromer.
Mundesley has a sheltered beach with lots of golden sand exposed at low tide, backed by low grassy cliffs and a promenade lined with colourful beach huts. The charming, well-preserved seaside town is a small, familyfriendly holiday spot, often considered one of Norfolk’s best-kept secrets. The village has its roots in the Victorian times when visitors came by rail to sample the fresh air and exceptional service of seaside hotels such as The Royal.
T HEATRE R O YA L Rhythm of the Dance he high-energy show, Rhythm of the Dance, celebrating the style, story and music of Celtic culture makes a welcome return visit to Norwich Theatre Royal this month playing for one night only on Monday, 10th July, 7.30pm. Telling the story of the Irish Celts through the realm of history, Rhythm of the Dance is a richly-costumed extravaganza showcasing the skill and style of Irish step-dancing but presented in a contemporary format which has helped to make this production a ‘must-see’ show for almost 30 years and enjoyed by millions and millions of fans. Producer Kieran Cavanagh continually renews the style and format of Rhythm of the Dance breathing new life into the choreography and exploring new musical options to make the show - which has won critical acclaim the world over - even more spectacular. And its return to Norwich comes after the production - which has been performed across four continents in 26 countries - has been seen in such iconic world venues as The Great Hall of the People, Beijing, China, the Kremlin Palace Theatre, Moscow and Dolly Parton’s theme park, Dollywood, in Tennessee, USA. The show also formed part of the programme for the closing ceremony of the inaugural European Games in Azerbaijan. John Bultitude, of Norwich Theatre Royal, said: ‘History is never normally learned like this. Some incredible dance routines, beautiful singing and non-stop energy will help tell the story of Ireland’s strong cultural history while also give audiences the chance to see some of the country’s top performing talent.’ Tickets £7.00-£24.50 (discounts for Friends of the Theatre) Box office: 01603 630 000 On-line booking: www.theatreroyalnorwich.co.uk

SU CCESS Invest in your future s owner and editor it’s a great privilege to be able to produce my series of magazine - Dispatch, FineCity, Norfolk on My Mind and Suffolk on My Mind. The hours are long, at least 70 hours each week, which means many late nights, early starts and weekends in the office. In addition to my publishing company and being worked into the ‘nooks & grannies’ of my already busy day, I have also been building an additional business in the little know World of Network Marketing, where I spend just a few hours a week investing in my future. In the traditional World of work the ‘Boss’ may ask you to work the occasional overtime, which nine times

out of ten we agree to do, and they pay you the average hourly rate of around £12.00 per hour, whereas in the World of Network Marketing you work that hour now and get paid for it but then the following month you get paid again, and again, and again and again for that one hours work you did months or even years ago.
In the fullness of time time-freedom will click in as the residual income reaches a point where the average UK salary is being earned but you are still just investing your 5 hours each week.
This is called Residual Income and I really like this concept!
I’d really welcome the opportunity to show you what I am doing as you may feel you’d like to do it too. It may not be for you, but at least you will have seen what I am doing and you can make that decision, rather than me denying you the opportunity. I just need 10 minutes to show you, plus the time to answer any questions you may have.
In addition to the money I receive, which incidentally is around £200.00 per hour currently and rising to £300.00 per hour, I was also recently presented with the Mini, shown below, because I invested approximately 5 hours a week for the past few years and reached a criteria which I could choose how quickly or slowly I achieved.
Invest a little more time and do it for a little longer and the sky’s the limit!
How soon can I pop and show you, during the day, one evening, weekday or
