Diss Museum

Diss W.I.

It has been a year in which we gained Accreditation, produced our Forward Plan for the next five years, gathered funds for substantial building repairs and met the Dalai Lama.

Our October meeting was held this time in the new Catholic Church and it started with the usual announcements, we were thrilled to learn we had helped to raise £446 pounds for the Macmillan Cancer Organisation.

Our displays were well received and led to much outreach activity, particularly the Church School 150th anniversary, the American Trail and On the Square. All involved partnership work with the organisations - the school, three airfield associations and the Freemasons. They all provided much of the material, while many of their members came to see the displays. I was interviewed by the pupils and wrote a play about the school’s history which they performed for parents. I gave a presentation at the Masonic Lodge, produced a son-etlumiere for Thorpe Abbotts and organised an American Lunch, both of which received press coverage.

museum. All those displays were featured separately in press articles. It is matter of seeing the bigger picture, rather than just having things in a display case. The ideas created: partnership work, extra visitors, outreach and educational activities, links with a regional project, increased press coverage, good will and money for the repairs.

A new Knitting group was started on 23rd October and takes place once a month on a Tuesday at the Grasmere Club in Denmark Street. There was a Christmas Fair at our Federation Offices on 29th November, we were taking part in the Salvation Army. Decorate a Christmas Tree, and our theme was snowmen.

Last year’s project, Friends in High Places, had a fitting finale in June when we re-created the meeting of a Manning and the Dalai Lama, 200 years after the first time. In September we were back at the Burston Rally and had a stall at a fair the same weekend.

We then settled down to listen to David Eddishall who had come to talk to us about the real Lark Rise To Candleford. He showed us slides and read extracts from the book, it was very interesting and every one enjoyed learning about where the

Diss Decorative & Fine Arts Society On the Walls of Paris - Ann Clements tells the story of Toulouse - Lautrec. Henri Marie Raymond de ToulouseLautrec was born into an aristocratic family in Albi in Southern France in 1864 and in his short life, he was only 37 when he died, he brought a unique development to many aspects of visual art. Ann Clements, an associate lecturer at Surrey University, and expert presenter with the V&A, Whitworth Art Gallery and elsewhere, gave a powerful story of Lautrec’s life to 120 members of Diss Decorative & Fine Arts Society [DDFAS] in October. Years of family intermarriage may have accounted for Henri’s poor health and the bone disease which stunted the growth of his legs and contributed to the malformation of his skull bones; for which he always wore a hat for protection. Although largely self-taught he did study with a friend of his father in Paris after 1872 and always led a very hectic life among the brothels and cafés of Paris culminating in Syphilis and drink problems.

He did not follow any established movements and experimented with many styles and mediums. These included posters, lithographs, photo’s, book covers, ceramics and even painting on cardboard with diluted oils! However, it was his posters for the Folies Begères in 1891 for which he is renowned. He described his work in a letter to his mother, who was always supportive, as on “the Walls of Paris”. Ann Clements enthralled her audience with her knowledge and lively style to take us through all the aspects of his broad, innovative talent and explained his difficult lifestyle which ultimately led to three months in a clinic for alcoholism in 1899. He resumed his old life after convalescence but broke down and died of a stroke at his mother’s country house in 1901. The Christmas lecture will be on Tuesday 18th. December 2012. All the usual panto ingredients are there: The cruel cross-dressing Ugly sisters, the Good Fairy, the Demon King, the magic mice, audience participation and a shed load of bad jokes, but all dressed up in jeans and circle skirts and pretending to be Grease. Also, there’s a brilliant score packed with pastiche 60’s style numbers written especially for the show. This is a pantomime that’s almost a musical. It’s a high energy, high camp

There is also a special award for the most innovative tree. Morning coffee, light lunches and teas are served every day throughout the festival in Dickleburgh Church Rooms (next to the church). Group visits are very welcome. Event organiser Rev Norman Steer said: “I love the Christmas Trees. It is a good week for me. The church expresses its love in a way that people can understand. I want visitors to be themselves and know that they are welcome and will be cared for during their visit. The best part is the smiles on the faces of all ages when they leave.” Dickleburgh village is to the north of Diss, just off the A140. cromercrawley The personal injury lawyers Your questions answered…… Question: I was recently injured in a car accident. A friend of mine, who had just passed his driving test, took a group of us out for a ride in his car. The accident happened when we were travelling along a country lane when a pheasant ran out across the road. My mate swerved to avoid hitting the pheasant and the car ended up in a ditch. Would I be able to claim compensation for my injuries? Answer: To successfully pursue a claim for compensation, it needs to be proven that the accident was caused as a result of the negligence of someone else. Primarily, the accident was caused by the pheasant running out into the path of the car that you were travelling in. As the pheasant is a wild animal, there is no one available to sue. This may sound obvious however if the animal is owned by someone there may be an option of suing that person for failing to ensure that it did not escape on to the road. The accident was also caused by your friend’s actions in swerving to avoid hitting the pheasant. Your friend probably did so instinctively and although his actions may be regarded as a normal

December 2012

reaction (particularly taking into account his inexperience in driving) they may be sufficient to prove negligence. The driver of a car owes a duty of care to his or her passengers to take all reasonable care such as to prevent the risk of foreseeable injury. This duty of care extends to other road users, although not to an animal such as a pheasant. In causing his vehicle to leave the road and end up in a ditch, it can be argued that your friend acted negligently. This is not to say that drivers should avoid taking evasive action in such situations (in some circumstances there may be consequences in criminal law for injuring an animal on the road) however the driver must ensure that any action does not put other people in danger. You may naturally be reluctant to make a claim against your friend and therefore it is worthwhile mentioning that the claim is likely to be dealt with under the insurance policy for the vehicle. Your friend may already be claiming against his insurance policy, for the damage to the vehicle, if he is comprehensively insured. If you have a question for our legal advice team you can submit it by email: enquiries@ comercrawley.co.uk or in writing to: Chancery House, Victoria Road, Diss, Norfolk IP22 4HZ.

Attleborough Town Council Noticeboard Monthly Update. War Memorial

Glass Recycling

In the run up to Remembrance Day on 11th November the Town Council, with the assistance of the Hon Archivist, Barbara Waters, organised amendments to the inscriptions on the town War Memorial.

The Council encourages glass recycling using the bins available near the Football Club building at Station Road.

This was to recognise the military decorations awarded to three of the soldiers who served in the First World War. Capt Terence A Cubitt was awarded the Military Cross, while Pte Harold Stephenson and Corp William J Sturman were each awarded the Military Medal. The work was undertaken by H L Perfitt Ltd. Hon Archivist, Barbara Waters, said “It is important to be aware of the military decorations that were awarded to soldiers of the town and with the new inscriptions it is now publically recognised on the war memorial”.

A modest income is gained from the use of this recycling facility and this would be maximised if people used it more extensively. Remembrance Day There was a good turnout to the Remembrance Day ceremony at the war memorial this year, with sunny and dry conditions on 11th November. As usual the town was well represented by a wide range of local groups in the traditional march from Edenside car park to the war memorial in time for the observance of the two minute silence and the wreath laying ceremony.

Christmas And Hearing Loss Karen Finch, Audiologist and Managing Director of The Hearing Care Centre tells us that we must be considerate of those with hearing loss over the festive period. As you begin to gather with your beloved friends and family this holiday season, please remember that not everyone at the party may be able to fully join in. Hearing loss is very common as we get older, one in six people in the UK in fact, and social gatherings can create challenges for those with hearing impairment. The more that hearing loss is ignored, the more it can lead to feelings of isolation and depression. Most of us will experience significant hearing loss as we get older. You may become aware of it in busy environments, when there are many voices and other background noises present - like at Christmas. Imagine being in a room where you’re unable to hear what other people are saying. If someone makes a joke and you miss the punch-line, you will no longer feel part of the group.

If you know someone is having problems hearing, there are several things you can do to help: • Make eye contact and speak clearly shouting is not necessary because that just distorts your voice • Keep background noise and music to a minimum • When at the dinner table seat them in the middle so they can see people’s faces and hear what they are saying • Keep rooms well lit to making it easier to lip read and see facial expressions • Sit with the background noise behind them or better still remove all unnecessary background noise if you can. • With some tact bring up the idea of having a hearing test after Christmas and see whether wearing a hearing aid may benefit them

My Christmas wish is that we could somehow get across the message that it’s OK to have a hearing loss and that this is no more stigma attached to wearing hearing aids that in wearing a pair of glasses.

Rangers Homeless Sleep-Out On October 20th, Attleborough Rangers and their Leader braved the cold, the wind and the rain to sleep outside for the night in order to raise awareness for homelessness as well as raising money for unit funds. Armed with a toilet tent, a trangia and as much cardboard as you could ever wish for, we built our home for the night in the porch of Attleborough Library. As darkness ensued, we left the comfort of our cosy homes behind for a full twelve hours outside. Although our numbers were low, our optimism was not, and we were all really excited about the night ahead. Once together, we quickly erected the toilet tent and then got to work padding out the concrete floor of the open porch way with cardboard, as well as using it to build walls around us to keep out the elements. By this time the rain was becoming steadily heavier, but wrapped in our blankets and endless layers of clothing and huddled together, we were lovely and warm and not at all downhearted.

dinner; the sound alone as the sausages sizzled and spat in the pan was enough to make us all hungry! So, with stomachs full of hotdogs, we turned the gas-lamp down low and settled down in our beds for the night ahead. Before we knew it, the morning light had woken us up and it was time to pack our things together and head home. Despite any initial worries or anxieties about the night, we managed to raise over £250 in sponsorship for our unit; we all felt that it was a really enjoyable experience and certainly one that we’ll never forget! Paralympic Torch Attleborough Probus Club Comes To Attleborough Customers and colleagues got a chance to hold the paralympic torch at the weekend and had a once in a lifetime chance to be pictured with it against a special backdrop to make it extra special.

Sainsbury’s was one of the main paralympic sponsors and is sending the torch to every store to give customers and colleagues a chance to see and hold before the end of the year.

The Chairman David Waters opened the first meeting of the month by welcoming twenty four members with some humorous stories, also greeting the Speaker for the meeting, Barbara Miller who had come to give us a history lesson, her subject was “The Peasants Revolt” The revolt broke out in 1381 and lasted for a month involving 100,000 people Jack Straw and Tyler Watt being the main protagonists, Norfolk at the time was one of the most heavily populated areas in the country with the wool trade despite the Black Death which had reduced the population by a 5th thirty years earlier, the uprising had many barbaric skirmishes, King Richard met the people and promised to meet their grievances but in the end it had minimal effect on the country. The venue for the Christmas lunch was announced as The Crown at

Great Ellingham. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to our speaker by Tony Giles who said he was confused by the enormous amount of information Barbara had given us. The Probus Club meets twice a month on Wednesday at the Connaught Bowls Club in Station Road we welcome retired professional and business men as guests. Interested? Is Your Adviser Independent? Going The Extra Mile From 31st December 2012, there are changes afoot for the financial services industry that have been brought about by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) Retail Distribution Review (RDR) and every financial adviser will have to be classified as independent or restricted. Firms that provide independent advice must make recommendations based on a ‘comprehensive and fair analysis of the relevant market’ and provide ‘unbiased and unrestricted’ advice. Firms that cannot fully meet these requirements will be deemed to be offering restricted advice. We believe that being independent should give our clients a better chance of getting the most suitable product for them, from the most suitable company. We are currently independent financial advisers and from next year we will remain independent financial advisers. One of the other changes brought about by RDR is that all advisers will have to have an enhanced minimum level of qualification. This higher level of qualification and the changes by RDR may result in several advisers leaving the industry and the high

street banks are having to rethink whether they will continue to offer financial advice to their customers. At ML Financial Associates all the advisers belong to the financial services professional body - the Personal Finance Society (PFS). We also adhere to the Chartered Insurance Institute code of ethics. Yes we are independent and will remain independent and all our advisers DO already have the enhanced qualifications. We feel these matters are important to give our clients the most suitable advice, with products from the entire market. Bereaved children and families in crisis are set to benefit from a barrow load of food which was wheeled through the streets of Diss recently. Rosedale Funeral Home helped raise the profile of the district’s newly launched foodbank - and local charity Nelson’s Journey - by sponsoring the mile-long wheelbarrow push. Pushing the barrow was Nelson’s Journey’s Ryan Doubleday who has been raising funds by doing 100 different and unusual activities, each for a mile. “Both charities are very close to our hearts and, with Christmas just around the corner, we thought this was an opportunity to lend our support,” said Rosedale’s Simon Beckett-Allen. The Diss-based Waveney Foodbank is collecting donations for distribution to local people in crisis, while Nelson’s Journey supports bereaved children. And now Rosedale is urging local people to back two

further Christmas appeals. Soon, for the first time, Rosedale’s six funeral homes will open their doors as collection points for the Salvations Army’s Toys ‘n Tins Appeal, which helps over 4,000 people across Norfolk each year by providing food and gift hampers. It’s also countdown time to the dispatch of shoeboxes, filled with gifts and goodies for underprivileged youngsters across the world. Operation Christmas Child is the UK’s largest children’s Christmas Appeal, reaching out to children as far afield as Africa, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. “When you see how much pleasure just one small box can bring to a child it’s very humbling. With stacks of shoeboxes ready to go, there’s still plenty of time for people to get involved,” urged Simon Beckett-Allen. Further information on Rosedale’s Christmas charity drive is available by calling Richard Green on 01379 640810. A family-run business, Rosedale has branches in Diss, Attleborough, Wymondham, Beccles, Bungay and Halesworth.

Besthorpe W.I. New 2 Year Principal Sponsorship Arrangement

On Wednesday 24th October eighteen members met in the Francis Room of the Connaught Hall with our President Angela Furness in the chair.

For Attleborough Amateur Boxing Club. Attleborough Amateur Boxing Club have signed a new 2 year extension on their Principal Sponsorship agreement with Donna Kissinger Estate Agents and Property Management. The club are delighted with this new agreement as it gives the Club additional security for the next 2 years. The thriving Club keeps it’s subscriptions costs as low as possible ( £2 per session 17 and under & £3 per session for over 17’s) so that the sport is affordable to all and therefore relies on sponsorship’s and fund raising throughout the year. Donna was an ideal match for the Club with her experience within the local community and has become even more involved with the Club by joining their Management Committee. The Club is open to all ages and levels of experience and has seen an influx of

members, including females, since the London Olympics. It is also embarking on a programme of non - contact daytime courses aimed at working Mum’s and introducing youngsters to the sort through Sportivate which is an Active Norfolk initiative. For further details of the Club, which is open 6 days a week at it’s gym in Attleborough, please contact 01953 457329 or succeed@attleboroughabc.co.uk or their Facebook page.

After we had said the Alberta Creed, Angela welcomed our speaker Charlotte Philcox. “Hedgerow Harvest” was the title of Charlotte’s talk. She is a garden consultant and designer and gives talks on a wide range of horticultural subjects. She is a regular contributor to the magazine “Let’s Talk!” Using slides as illustrations, Charlotte described a range of plants which can be used as food. One of the more obvious ones is blackberries, but care must be taken as to where they are collected: it is not advisable to pick them on the inside hedges of fields (because of the use of sprays), nor along roads where the hedges can be affected by traffic fumes. Some types of fungi are very tasty, but one needs to have a very good knowledge of which ones are poisonous! Even so-called weeds in the garden can be eaten, such as nettles and even the persistently troublesome ground-elder,

brought to this country by the Romans, can have food value. After refreshments and the raffle, we held our business meeting. The competition, for an insect in any medium, was won by Anne Scott’s ladybird fridge magnet on a leaf. The flower competition was won by Joan Bond’s white chrysanthemums. On Wednesday 12th December we shall be having a Christmas celebration at The Griffin. The first meeting of the New Year, on Wednesday 23rd January at 7.30pm in the Francis Room, will be a social and planning meeting. Our annual theatre outing is on Saturday 9th February. Visitors are always welcome to our meetings and we should like to point out that you do not have to live in Besthorpe to visit us, or to join us! Dorothy Woolliscroft.

Thetford Players Over 40 people from as far as Swaffham and Kings Lynn made the pilgrimage to Thetford. to join the Thetford Players Historical Character Walk where Thomas Paine English-American political activist, author, political theorist, revolutionary and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States - met and guided the party around the most historic parts of Thetford. The Walk started at what is now known as Whitehart Street (formerly Bridgegate Street) where Paine was born in 1737, ending at King’s House in King Street, fittingly by the golden statue of Paine. Many characters that played a part in the town’s remarkable history were introduced along the Walk and shared enlightening factual stories. Characters included Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Radcliffe (former owner of the Bell Inn), Father John Brame of St. Mary’s Priory (who famously chronicled

the miraculous healing powers of the Priory’s statue of the Virgin Mary in 1414), Housekeeper of Duleep Singh (the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire and friend of Queen Victoria), Susannah Gill (sister of Garner and Thomas Gill, merchants and joint tenants of the Water Mill, 1775-1865), Susannah Holmes (wife of Henry Cabell, one of the founding families of Australia), Sir Robert Williamson (MP in 1669 and great benefactor of Thetford) and perhaps the most famous of all – Boudica, leader of the British Iceni tribe. The wheelchair-friendly round walk lasted approximately 90 minutes and will be repeated throughout summer 2013. Further details of the 2013 dates will be added to www.thetfordplayers.co.uk/

Attleborough Heritage Group Attleborough Heritage Group, together with Hamilton Acorn Ltd, recently presented an illustrated talk on brush manufacture. Since Mrs Cave Woman first tidied away the debris in her cave using a handful of twigs, up to the painters and decorators of the 21st century employing the latest technological advances in the tools of their trade, mankind has had a deep and meaningful relationship with brushes.

amused to see themselves in some of the more recent photographs of the workforce. Through various mergers and acquisitions the company has undergone a metamorphosis and is now called Hamilton Acorn.

This two-part event consisted of an initial lecture exploring the history of brush making here in Norfolk, with the establishment in the 18th century of S D Page & Sons in Norwich.

Perhaps mention should also be made of the fine piece of taxidermy known as Horace the Wild Boar and the thousands of bristles used over the centuries donated by his fellow creatures, and in more recent times imported mainly from China.

The company later relocated to Wymondham in order to overcome workforce difficulties. In the early 1950s, when by now the company was known as the Briton Brush Company, a factory was opened in Attleborough and, as such, became a major employer in the Town. The talk was presented by Cliff Amos, the Heritage Group chairman, and illustrated by images from the Heritage Group archive. Many members in the audience had been employed by the Company and were

In the second part of the presentation, given by Mark Davies, Technical Director for Hamilton Acorn, the audience was brought up to date using promotional videos relating to the company in Attleborough today. Brush manufacture no longer takes place in the Town; this is now carried out in Sweden and, of course, centres on the manufacture of paintbrushes and rollers rather than those used for sweeping and cleaning. What remains of the firm in Attleborough will relocate in the

near future, it is hoped locally, and it is intended that the current factory site will be sold for housing use. In a further step in the firm’s history from the New Year it will become known as Hamilton. from the Heritage Group archive. The Group is also indebted to the President of the Wymondham Heritage Society who brought along some samples of domestic brush making components from the exhibition in Wymondham Bridewell Museum. ‘preserving yesterday’s and today’s memories for tomorrow’.

National Cat Pain Awareness Month At The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group Cat Pain - Spotting the signs… According to Veterinary experts, there are many domesticated cats currently suffering with ailments such as arthritis and due to cats’ independent nature and athleticism owners are not aware that their cat may be in pain.

• Reduced Activity - your cat may slow down, walk slightly stiffly or sleep a lot more

and therefore put him/her on the best possible treatment for his/her grade of arthritis.

• Changes in grooming habits - Has your cats coat deteriorated - started to become matted or scruffy?

Evolution has programmed cats not to show any signs of pain in order to protect themselves from predators.

• Changes in temperament - Has your cat’s attitude changed? Has he/she become less tolerant of people or more withdrawn?

At The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group we now provide Acupuncture treatment in both dogs and cats. Acupuncture has proved extremely beneficial in animals and the results that we have seen have

Cats are agile creatures and can therefore hide mobility difficulties caused by arthritis, for instance, unlike dogs, cats with arthritis don’t limp, the warning signs that cats are in pain are very subtle. These signs can include; • Reduced mobility - your cat may become hesitant to jump onto your lap/furniture/through a cat-flap.

been incredibly positive, especially in arthritic cases. Acupuncture releases endorphins which relieve pain. It can also stimulate the bodies own healing and defence mechanisms. Patient’s mobility has improved and acupuncture is well tolerated, most patients even seem to enjoy it and become very relaxed.

Veterinary technology is becoming increasingly advanced every day, which means that there are more treatment options out there for our beloved pets. There are several treatments available for long-term use in cats with arthritis and if you are at all concerned that your cat is suffering from any of the above symptoms please contact your vet immediately who can assess the level of pain/arthritis your cat may have

Keep The Winter Chill From Making Your Hands Dull And Dry When winter sets in, your hands begin to show neglect and ageing sooner than most parts of the body. The skin on the back of the hands is thin and has few oil glands. The hands also come in contact with soaps and detergents daily, when we perform our washing chores. These play havoc on the skin, making it rough and dry. This is more so in winter, when the skin loses moisture to the atmosphere. Protect your hands by wearing rubber gloves for your washing chores.Surgical gloves are easily available at a chemist store. Apply a cream after your washing tasks, working it into the skin. This takes only a few minutes of your time. You should also massage cream on the nails and the skin around the nails too. Massage the

hands at night with a good nourishing cream. Apply the cream on the back of the hand. This is the area that is prone to early wrinkling. Work down each finger, starting from the tip. Use tiny circular movements on the joints of the fingers. Massage the back of the hand, using strokes moving from the fingers towards the wrist. Bath time is appropriate to pamper the hands and supply them with the oils and moisture they need. In fact, applying body lotions and creams soon after bathing, while the skin is still damp, helps to seal in moisture. Before your bath, apply oil on the hands and massage it into the skin. This helps to soften the skin. Sesame seed oil can be used, or you can use olive oil or pure almond oil. Warm the oil before use.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) & Aromatherapy Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is now said to affect up to 20% of the adult population, making the winter months miserable for many of those sufferers. The main symptom is depression, but other telltale signs of this condition include developing an increased appetite with strong cravings for carbohydrates and sweets, weight gain, fatigue, wanting to sleep for longer and get

up later, plus an energy slump in the afternoons. One of the most important triggers for the production of serotonin (the neurotransmitter in the body that wards off depression and controls sleep patterns and temperature) is natural daylight but, since 90% of us spend 90% of our time indoors, especially at this time of the year, a special effort to get outside will be needed to benefit from it. In aromatherapy, many essential oils often used for their antidepressant properties, such as rose, neroli, and lavender, are extracted from plants that flower most prolifically in spring and summer. For SAD sufferers, combining light therapy with a course of aromatherapy massage treatments in late summer and throughout winter can provide welcome relief from the symptoms of this disorder.

Mitsubishi L200 Trojan Double Cab By Tim Barnes-Clay, Motoring Journalist. IF YOU are a tradesman, or you simply want to get your hands on an affordable, tough as old boots, grown up version of a Tonka truck, then Mitsubishi’s L200 Trojan is for you. It’s practical, it’s comfortable and with 4x4 ability it’ll get you on and off mudridden building sites or farm fields with utter ease. Not only that, the pickup does what it says on the tin - it’ll be your best friend when it comes to picking up loads and, when the cargo area is full, it’s the perfect vehicle for lugging a laden trailer around. The L200’s looks aren’t bad either. It’s mean and handsome - in a rough sort of way. The double cab means there’s enough room for four, so when the Trojan isn’t tackling off road areas or hauling heavy-duty merchandise around, it’s a handy family motor, especially kitted out, as my demo was, with a luscious leather interior. Behind the wheel, the Mitsubishi is slightly unwieldy. It takes some getting used to - in the sense that you can’t just takes bends with one finger on the wheel - as you might lazily do with a normal family car. No, this pickup will take corners wide if you don’t discipline it. Also, be aware that the Trojan only

has five gears in normal rear wheel driving mode. Reverse is where sixth normally is - so it’s easy to go into gear-grating territory when you first drive it. Other than that, all controls are laid out in an ‘idiot’s guide’ fashion. Pace, although it’s not the first thing you think about when you buy a pickup, isn’t an issue on the L200. There’s a reason for this: the 2012/13 Trojan has had some improvements - such as 30 percent more clout, with an increase in engine power from 134 bhp to 173 bhp and 27 percent more torque. The result is that the Mitsubishi gathers pace like an angry rhino - when it does get rolling you feel it’s like an indestructible road-train. Good job, then, that the pickup has first-rate brakes to scrub off any unwanted speed. If you want individuality, forget it. The mighty Mitsubishi is available in two colours only; Aztec Red and Cosmos Black. But, seeing as the vehicle is largely aimed at supporting the UK’s recovering building, plumbing, electrician and agricultural markets, the L200 Trojan is a great option for business users who demand resilience, versatility and performance.

Advice On Buying A Vehicle The following advice can help reduce the risk of buying a stolen vehicle. Here are some tips to consider, but the final decision is your responsibility. Find out what documents, paperwork and identification marks you should look out for when you buy a used vehicle. Step 1: Before seeing the vehicle Here are some things to consider before you see the vehicle: • Ask if the seller is the registered keeper and arrange to view the vehicle at the registered keeper’s address • Ask the seller for the registration number, make and model of the vehicle • Ask the seller for the expiry date of the tax disc, and the MOT test number • check whether the vehicle has outstanding finance or has been stolen or written off Clocking Vehicles can be clocked to reduce their mileage and get a better price. • Be careful, some dishonest dealers pose as private sellers to offload unsafe and clocked cars • Consider taking a qualified vehicle examiner with you. A number of companies provide this service if you don’t know anybody with sufficient knowledge of vehicles

Step 2: Checking the vehicle’s registration certificate Thieves can alter the appearance of a stolen vehicle and it’s paperwork to make it look genuine. They can also forge documents. Hold the Registration Certificate up to the light - there should be a ‘DVL’ watermark. Remember, the Certificate is not proof of ownership. Make sure the seller has the right to sell the vehicle, and the Certificate matches the vehicle’s details and all other documentation provided. Don’t buy the vehicle if you think the serial number has been altered, or if part of the certificate is missing. Step 3: Checking the vehicle Remember Don’t buy the vehicle if the VIN has been tampered with or is missing. Before buying a vehicle, check that the VIN and engine number match those on the Registration Certificate - The VIN is recorded on a metal strip at the base of the windscreen, under the bonnet or beneath the carpet on the driver’s side.
