When complete I am sure the Haling Path will be enjoyed by Thetford residents for generations to come.”
Norfolk County Council will adopt the footway and piled wall and will therefore maintain it, in the future ensuring the finished cycleway footpath and wall should not fall into disrepair in the future. Stacey & Partners Make sure you use the allowances the government gives you. Act now before 5th April to save tax! Have you used all of your reliefs? While we often reflect on our plans for a new year each December, taxpayers are losing out on tax benefits by not planning ahead, so says Mark Wallace of regional accountancy firm Stacey & Partners.
the savings are able to grow free of income tax and capital gains tax.
There are a number of things that individuals can do to save tax by planning ahead. Some of these are as follows:-
Pensions The amount that can be paid into a pension scheme is reduced substantially with effect from 5th April 2011. Have you paid as much as you can and need to into your pension, making full use of the reliefs?
ISA Allowance Each individual is able to save £10,200 per tax year in an ISA account, where
Personal Allowance & Basic Rate Band Have you used yours? The basic

allowance is £6,475 for the 2010/11 tax year, below which no tax is payable. By planning ahead, individuals where, say one person is working and paying tax, and another with no income, may be able to split savings and property income to use up their entire allowances. Savings can also be made where one individual is a higher rate tax payer and the other is a basic rate tax payer. If you are a business, has your spouse used their allowance? If it can be justified, how about considering a salary to your spouse. Capital Gains Tax allowance Have you used yours? Each individual has a capital gains tax allowance of £10,100. If you are planning a sale it may be necessary to look at its timing so that it occurs in the tax year which maximises your allowances. If you have assets that are standing at a capital gains loss, it may be useful to consider the sale of loss making assets to shelter gains.
Inheritance Tax Are you planning gifts? There is an Annual exemption of £3,000 that can be carried forward for one year if unused. So did you use last years? Also don’t forget small gifts allowances, gifts for marriage and gifts of normal expenditure out of income. Businesses Businesses – if you are looking to invest in equipment and have a 5th April year end make sure your Annual Investment Allowance is used. This year it stands at £100,000 but it goes down to £25,000 as from 1st April 2011. If you wish to discuss any of the above measures, Mark Wallace can be contacted at Stacey & Partners, Thetford, on 01842 826100 or by email at mwallace@staceys.co.uk The information in this article is based upon legislation currently in force. No action on the information should be taken without considering your own circumstances.

Please note that our outside Car Boot Sale will run from 3rd April right through to October, on the first Sunday of each month.

Thetford Grammar School The day had finally arrived! Junior School Council had prepared for the birdwatch by ensuring that the bird table was well stocked for the week before the event, so that the birds would get used to its new position. After the last of the Seniors had disappeared after their House meetings, the children watching at the windows could see a flutter here, a flash there until gradually more and more birds became brave enough to swoop down to the bird table to eat. Year 6 were very busy as when they were not counting at the windows, they were given the challenge to build a bird nest out of twigs, make bird fat balls which they then took out to hang in the playground (after the watch was over though!) as well as finding out bird facts about the birds. The children found making the nests very difficult, but these were able to hold a large amount of eggs! Great designing Year 6.
Dispatch March 2011
The Abbey Neighbourhood Centre EVERY Wednesday between 10.30am to 2pm.
Meanwhile, Goldcrest were concealing themselves in the ‘hide’ so that they would not scare the birds whilst they were watching them. When not taking turns at the peepholes, the children were also partaking of a morning munch alongside the birds. They had brought in lots of different types of seeds - pumpkin, sunflower, linseed, sesame and poppy - as well as various kinds of fruit - grapes, raspberries, dried apricots and raisins. The children also got to make their own strawberry smoothie. This involved pouring, measuring, peeling, cutting and then watching the blender whizz everything around. Everyone got to try new things and discover that they liked some of them!

Thetford Cyclists Are More Security Minded
Fun2play Celebrates Its 8th Anniversary!
Police and partners have joined forces to increase cyclist’s security and safety awareness as part of a neighbourhood priority.
Fun2play Ltd, in Thetford, celebrated its 8th Anniversary on Tuesday 15th February.
Officers have educated bike riders about crime prevention and keeping safe on the roads. Between Saturday 1st January and Thursday 10th February there were no reported cycle thefts in the neighbourhood. Thetford Sgt Steve Burke said: “We are encouraging bike owners to not be complacent about cycle security. My advice to all cyclists would be to always lock and secure your cycle, even when leaving it unattended for a short-while.” Officers have been asked by residents to carry on with the good work to reduce cycle thefts and offences, especially as spring approaches. Police have also stepped up patrols in Castle Street at key times. As a result of the high visibility policing presence in the neighbourhood, reported incidents of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour have reduced. This area was a priority for the last three months.

Health, beauty & wellbeing Eat Your Way To Healthier Hair We are what we eat and that applies to our hair, too. Hair products help, of course, but nutritionists and beauty experts tell us that healthy hair begins from the inside out. Building blocks for great tresses include protein, Omega-3 fats, iron, biotin and foods that contain Vitamins A and C that help our bodies produce sebum, our natural hair conditioner. Exercising is also key. Jazzercise reminds us that consistent physical movement promotes better circulation and increased blood flow which aids hair growth. Here are some things you can eat for healthier hair: Swimmin’ Salmon – Salmon provides us with Omega-3 fats that help our scalps contain enough moisture to provide us with lustrous hair. A three-ounce serving of salmon also gives us one-third of our daily protein requirement. Not a fish lover? Take one tablespoon daily of ground flaxseed.
10 Dispatch March 2011
Eat Your Vegetables – The darker and leafier the better to get Vitamins A and C that help our hair follicles produce sebum, a natural substance that keeps our scalp and hair from drying out. Also, iron has been shown to help hair grow so gravitate toward veggies with high iron content including spinach, broccoli, kale and chard. Lean Beans – Beans of all types are lean sources of protein, one of the most essential building blocks for healthy hair. You can also find protein in beef, chicken, fish and pork. Get Nuts - Nuts contain elements that are good for your hair as well as your scalp. Almonds, cashews and pecans contain biotin that has been associated with aiding hair growth. Nuts also pack a healthy protein punch to help keep our locks luscious.
Diet Naturally - While watching your weight, be sure to eat as many calories from natural foods as possible to assure that you are taking in enough nutrients for healthy hair – and a healthy body. Avoid heavily processed or fast foods as they provide little nutritional support. Sparkling Attitude – OK, so it’s not a food but our attitude has a tremendous affect on our bodies, including our hair. Manage your mind by counterbalancing stressful times with a walk in a park, meditation, and quality time with family and friends. Have a few moments of time to yourself? Treat yourself to a scalp massage. You’ll awaken your hair follicles and relax your mind. Jazzercise is a worldwide dance exercise
phenomenon, the Jazzercise dance fitness program was founded in 1969.and now has a network of 7,800 instructors teaching more than 32,000 classes weekly in 32 countries. The workout program, which offers a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, cardio box and Latin style movements, has positively affected millions of people worldwide. Benefits include increased cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility, as well as an overall “feel good” factor. Additional Jazzercise programs include Junior Jazzercise, Jazzercise Lite and Personal Touch.
