WYMONDHAM Kerry Butcher Accountancy Services There is lots going on in the world of tax and finance at the moment Norfolk has been a great place to be over the last few weeks with the excitement of the Tour of Britain coming through many of the towns and villages at the beginning of September. The build up was great with lots of businesses taking part and decorating bikes in Attleborough – it seems quite sad to think that these are now gone and Attleborough doesn’t look quite as pretty – a big thank you to all those who organised and joined in – here at KBA we were really happy to join in the fun and we hope that you saw our bike (even though someone pinched our windmills!). We can’t quite believe that we have arrived at October, the year is in its final months and before we know it everyone will be mentioning the C word. Of course one of the main changes in the financial world for October is the increase in the minimum wage effective from 1 October 2015. This year the rates will be as follows: £6.70 per hour for 21 and over £5.30 per hour for age 18-20 £3.87 per hour for under 18 £3.30 per hour for apprentices. Make sure that you don’t get caught out and pay your staff the correct amounts with effect from 1 October 2015. Of course we will be making sure that we advise all of our payroll clients of the changing rates so that they don’t get caught out. If you currently prepare your own payroll but find that this change is the final straw or that the task is becoming more onerous with all of the changes, then why not come and talk to us here at KBA, we offer a payroll service that we adapt to your needs. Costs are very reasonable and charged on a quarterly basis. www.DispatchMagazine.co.uk
No more worrying about filing those real time summaries and working out the PAYE to be paid, or fines for missing deadlines you didn’t know existed – all of this can be taken care of by us and it will probably costs a lot less than you think. Why not come and talk to us about how we can help you? Of course October is also the deadline if you file your tax return in paper format. HMRC insist on all paper returns being filed by 31 October each year. It seems that each tax year, HMRC try to persuade more tax payers to file online – they really don’t like the paper versions. Here at KBA we complete all tax returns using the online filing facility – it really is very easy for us to obtain authority on your behalf, we use our own log ins but always send out the finished return for your approval prior to submission.
returns and will always check turnover each year to ensure that the VAT threshold is not looming, we can advise on payroll, we can help with tax codes both for the tax payer or their employees, and we help with rentals, making sure that all allowable costs are included. Of course the changes in finance costs that will be allowable for tax have been publicised already but no final rulings have been provided. There is great discussion at present about how this is going to affect property owners – we at KBA pride ourselves on keeping up to date with all current legislation so you can be sure that when any decisions are made, we will pass these decisions straight on to you as our clients. Other popular services that we offer are CIS returns and submissions plus lots of limited company services including preparation of limited company
accounts, annual returns, hosting registered offices, right down to incorporating companies and adding directors and shareholders. Life is never dull at KBA and we hope that if you have any queries or think that we could help you that you will give us a call, an email or pop in and arrange a free consultation – that way you can make informed decisions and hopefully we can save you some money at the same time. We love the work that we do here at KBA and we hope that it shows with the work that we produce and the service that our clients receive. We hope that reading this will spur you on to making some important decisions about the future and that we can be part of them.
We also send an explanatory calculation with the return to confirm any amounts that must be paid and the dates this is due. We also can help with any queries you have and we can call the tax office on your behalf and discuss any queries. This has to be good news since we know that many of our clients have tried on numerous occasions to call HMRC in the past, holding for hours at a time, only to be cut off. As agents, we at KBA have a priority number that we can call to speak to advisors about your affairs and put things straight once and for all. All in all we really hope that we can make life so much easier and you will wonder what you ever did without us! Of course we are not just about self assessment; we have many other services that we offer to our clients. We can assist with VAT 2015 October | 05

WYMONDHAM Sound Sleep Beds Does Your Bed Go Bump in the Night? For most of us a third of our life is spent asleep, meaning the wear on our mattress over time is considerable, yet a staggering 25% of people wouldn’t consider changing their mattress – even after more than 10 years. It is hardly surprising then that 58% of the population complain of waking feeling stiff and achy. Take our Bed MOT (Mattress Obsolescence Test) to find out if you need a new bed. Answer yes or no to the following questions. • Is your bed seven years old or more? • Would it be embarrassing if the neighbours saw it without the covers? • Does it make suspicious noises in the night? • Did you have your best recent nights sleep in a bed other than yours? • Are your waking up more frequently un-refreshed and aching? • Do you and your partner roll towards each other unintentionally? • Are you too close to your partner to sleep comfortably?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then it your bed has FAILED its MOT and a trip to Sound Sleep for some new bed or mattress advice is essential. The key with mattress buying is to try out as wide a variety of options as possible to find the most suitable mattress for you (and your partner). Given the amount of time you spend in bed, it is important to spend a reasonable amount of time in store trying out new ones, especially if you have been experiencing pains that could come from your existing mattress. It this instance, it may be worth having a chat with your chiropractor for some advice on what they advise is suitable for your back. At Sound Sleep, we stock a variety of brands and different types of mattresses, for example pocket sprung, memory foam, latex and so on. Each manufacturer has different mattresses that offer different levels of support and comfort. When mattress shopping, it is essential to ask for help. We are highly trained mattress specialists and are on hand to advise you, not to high pressure you in to buying something that may not be suitable.
• Is it sagging? • Does it feel lumpy in the night?
08 | October 2015
Following are just a few quick tips to consider when bed shopping.
How do I know which one is right for me? A mattress that is supportive and comfortable is important, but remember, your requirement for support will differ depending on your weight and build. The best bed for your back is not always a firm one. You need a bed that will provide the right support and comfort for you. When laying on your side, ideally your spine should be parallel to the mattress and your spine should not sag down or bow up. Also remember as we age, our support requirements change. A very firm mattress when you were 35 may not be so suitable when you’re 45, comfort is important too! Trying them out Give your self plenty of time and wear loose clothing, this helps you turn and get in and out of beds in store. Our Mattress Specialists will point you in the right direction. Try the advised mattresses for as long as possible to get a good ‘feel’ for them. If you sleep together, shop together Always shop with your partner, the bed must be suitable for both of you. As it is inevitable one of you may have to compromise! Size matters It is scientifically proven that couples sleep better in a bigger bed. The more space you have the freer you can move without
disturbing your partner. This is also a good idea if one or both of you get hot in bed. If you are thinking about just a new mattress, before coming to visit us in store, check what kind of base you have and it’s condition, as some bases may be unsuitable for a new mattress. We will of course be on hand to give you the correct advice and information. All of our divans and mattresses are sourced from National Bed Federation members, so what you are buying is exactly what it says it is, it’s made from new and clean materials and it meets the strict British Standard fire regulations. More information can be found at www.bedfed. org.uk Now that you have chosen a new bed and mattress, don’t forget that pillows are very important too. A cheap, unsupportive pillow can cause neck and back problems. These are just as important as your new mattress. For more help and advice, visit our in store Mattress Specialists who can talk you through all the pros and cons of various mattresses. We also pride ourselves on having the most up to date mattress technology (as well as the old fashioned technology too!). Sleep has never felt so good!

BUSINESS PARK The Rookery Business Park Welcome to the first Rookery Business Park feature! Take time to read through the expansive services and products the businesses on the park can offer you; you may be surprised what we do! We are situated along Silver Street in the picturesque setting of Besthorpe between both Wymondham and Attleborough. The business park is situated within minutes from the A11 south and north bound which makes it easy to access from any direction. History Initially, Rookery farm was purchased by the late Mr Jack
Frost in 1983 to expand the size of the arable farm. The images on pages 30 & 31 show how far we have come in just over 32 years. The only building which have lasted relatively unchanged is the Farm house.
of the former Turkey sheds into industrial units was completed in 2006.
Ever since then we have been expanding our services, initially into rearing and processing Turkeys and then onto the largest project we have ever encountered: the transformation into Rookery Business Park.
Since then, Wolf Brewery has moved to other premises and in its place a plethora of businesses have joined us. Some of the marvellous transformations can be shown by the conversion of the straw barn at the rear of the site into what is now the Norfolk Academy of Gymnasts, opened by medal-winning Olympian Beth Tweddle in 2008.
From the arrival of Wolf Brewery, Rookery Farm took the form of a business park. The conversion

We started as a family-run business and, even with the expansion of Rookery Farm, we have kept that family ethos going.
Off the back of the “solar success” we are about to embark on a further 5 megawatt solar park (with the company Solar Centry) constructed on our land, covering approximately 25 acres, away from the sight of residents and tenants.
What started off as an arable farm has been thrown into the 21st century, into the industrial and information age. Our aim is to continue welcoming change and innovation and making sure that we give the surrounding towns a fine resource.

Home Start Support and friendship for families What is Home-Start? Home-Start is a national charity with schemes in hundreds of local communities. We recruit and train volunteers to help families with young children. Our volunteers, who know about being a parent, support other parents by visiting them in their own homes for a couple of hours each week. We also run special family groups and hold social events for families.
As a volunteer what would I actually do? Usually you visit a family in their own home once a week for a couple of hours. How you help is really down to the family itself. Some might need someone to talk to... others may need more practical support with meal planning and cooking, reading to the children, going to the local park, or finding out about local services.
What kind of families would I be helping? All kinds of families can find it hard to cope for all sorts of reasons, maybe because of the illness or disability of a child or because of post-natal illness, bereavement or loneliness. At Home-Start we support any parent with at least one child under five who asks for our help. Our supported families, like our volunteers, come from all walks of life.
What would I get out of volunteering for Home-Start? Knowing you have helped; a boost to your self-esteem and confidence; even a foot on the ladder towards a job. How can I find out more about becoming a Home-Start volunteer? Contact your local Home-Start for an informal chat www.homestartbsn.co.uk T: 01953 459892

GENERAL Ringtons Serving up a cup of Ringtons While many still remember ‘the pop man’, butcher and milkman making regular deliveries to homes across the country, it seems today such traditional doorstep deliveries are a rare sight. However, tea and coffee expert Ringtons is bucking this trend and its traditional doorstep selling methods are just as popular today as they were in 1907 when the company first began. From its base in Diss, Ringtons’ friendly team keep traditional delivery methods in demand by offering a unique and personal service to each and every customer. Ringtons customers enjoy home deliveries of quality tea, coffee, biscuits and gifts on a fortnightly or monthly basis.
Although Ringtons has swapped its original horse and carts for vans, it remains just as committed to great service and the best quality products as it always has. The service is designed around its customers, delivery is free, there’s no subscription fee and there is no obligation to buy – it’s simply an easy way to enjoy great quality products which are delivered straight to your door by someone from your local office To find out more about Ringtons traditional doorstep experience or to sign up for a first no obligation delivery go to www.ringtons. co.uk or call Freephone 0800 052 2440.

ELDERLY The Hearing Care Centre When was the last time you had a hearing test? Can you remember when you last had your hearing tested? If you can’t remember or have never had one, you certainly are not alone. A recent study* highlighted that in the United Kingdom over half the population (53%) have never had a hearing test carried out. If you asked yourself when was your last dental check-up or visit to the opticians, you would probably say in the last 2 years. So why do we not take the same care with our hearing? There are currently 10 million people in the UK who are hard of hearing and our lifestyle means that the condition is becoming increasingly prevalent. Once an issue associated with old age, now anyone can find

their hearing isn’t what it used to be. Thankfully, with the use of accurate diagnostics and fantastic hearing assistive technology - it’s often an easily solved problem. A large part of the problem is that many of us presume, wrongly, that it isn’t something that could affect us. In fact, it’s thought that 18,000 of us are experiencing noiseinduced hearing loss caused by or exacerbated by our workplace environment or hobbies. If you suspect you or a friend is experiencing difficulties with their hearing consider the list below: • Do you ask others to repeat themselves?
• Do friends complain that the TV is too loud?
becomes easier and less stressful and they begin to enjoy life again.
• Does it become difficult to follow a conversation in background noise?
Our hearing allows us to connect with our surroundings and communicate with our loved ones. The ability to hear properly can go along way in helping to stay active. Correct communication with family and friends can mean the difference between a fun and enjoyable day out or a confusing and frustrating day.
• Does it seem to you as if people are mumbling? If you answered YES to any of these questions, you may have a hearing loss. If you have yet to have a hearing assessment, do not suffer in silence with an issue that can be readily addressed with hearing aids. If you are feeling hesitant about taking the next step remember that you are not alone. Consider the improvements in quality of life experienced by individuals who take action and address their hearing loss. The experience can be life changing - hearing aid users say they grow in confidence, communicating in groups

Able Community Care The Alternative to Moving into a Care Home Getting older sometimes means that a person needs to be cared for twenty four hours a day. Such care can be provided in a care home or in a person’s own home. Given the choice, many people would prefer to stay in their own home and Able Community Care has enabled thousands of people to exercise this choice. Our experience has shown that having a regular rota of experienced carers in your own home is often a much happier alternative than moving into a care home. Able Community Care has been providing an alternative choice to moving into a care home since 1980 by providing Live-in Carer Schemes throughout the UK. Our live-in care staff have enabled thousands of disabled and older people to remain happily within their own home. The role of our live-in carers is to provide domestic, personal and social
