Masonry In Wymondham Masons are a World wide operation. The first Grand Lodge was the united Grand Lodge of England founded in 1717. Freemasonry quickly spread from Britain to Europe and America mainly through military lodges. Today it is a World wide organisation and many members enjoy the opportunity to make new friends, many of them for life! In Wymondham masonry dates back to October 1867 when Doric Lodge held its first meeting at the now demolished Kings Head Hotel. The Lodge has moved to a number of locations since then including church school rooms, Kings Head Hotel (second stay), White Heart Hotel and since September 1935 it has remained at its own premises - the Masonic Hall in
Damgate Street (entrance via Chandlers Hill). All lodges seek to uphold the Masonic principles of character development, good moral conduct and fairness in all things. These principles have stood the test of time. Current Masonic thinking and activity having a far greater openness than previous with the core beliefs of masonry being actively promoted in the wider society. Since its early days Freemasonry has been involved with charitable causes. Masons give their time freely to help many local, national and World-wide charities. As with many other societies, part of the annual income is spent on providing for members’ need, such as medical treatment and care of the elderly. By far the greater proportion though is given to non-Masonic groups. Doric Lodge holds monthly meetings on the third Wednesday of each month (with a recess for the summer months). These meetings give the opportunity to socialise and is usually followed by a meal and further developing the social side of the Lodge meetings. Masonry is totally non-denominational and welcomes different faiths giving a unique and
understanding way to share a rewarding fellowship with one another. As of 2016, every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal - the new compulsory legislation comes under plans intended to reduce the number of strays in the UK. The microchip will be coded with owners’ details, enabling vets to locate the owners if a dog is found, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500. An incredibly amount of taxpayers’ money - £57million per year - is spent on caring for and rehoming stray dogs. The new ruling will hopefully cut this figure dramatically and save over 100,000 dogs from being abandoned and left homeless. Microchipping is a simple and inexpensive solution that gives pet owners peace of mind - It allows vets to locate the owners of s stray dog if one is brought into the practice.
It’s also much easier to trace and find a stolen dog. The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group are now running a special offer whereby you can microchip your dog for the special price of £9.99 including VAT. To ensure your other pets don’t miss out, the offer applies to cats and rabbits as well. The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group are due to attend the Wayland Show on Sunday 4th August and will be microchipping dogs there for the same price, so please come and visit our stand. Alternatively, for further information or to make an appointment call The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group on (Watton) 01953 881415, (Attleborough) 01953 451100, (Thetford) 01842764244 or (Brandon) 01842 814043.

Local Funeral Director Rosedale Funeral Home Is Named One Of The Best. South Norfolk funeral director Rosedale Funeral Home has been named one of the UK’s best funeral directors following an assessment visit by the Good Funeral Guide, an independent funeral consumer advocacy organisation. In its review of Rosedale the Good Funeral Guide says: “Outstandingly well run, highly professional but, top of the list, you’ll find here an exceptional focus on people. Quiet, kind, capable and utterly sincere. Good value for money, too.” The Good Funeral Guide assesses select funeral homes according to strict criteria which focus on the quality of the experience they offer to bereaved people. Rosedale Funeral Home has been inspected to ensure that clients are treated with courtesy, listened to with empathy, offered a full range of choice, charged fairly and empowered to play
whatever part they want in creating a send-off for the person they have lost which accords with their values and wishes. The accreditation process also involved spending time behind the scenes in order to ascertain that those who have died are cared for with the utmost tenderness and respect.
And this week, the team at Rosedale were also delighted to learn that they have won a Customer Care Award from Funeral Planning Services, recognising the commitment and determination that staff at Rosedale have shown to offer its customers the best possible service, including the peace of
mind that comes with paying for and arranging a funeral in advance. Graham Williams, director of Funeral Planning Services says, “The hard work and dedication it takes to consistently provide such high-quality customer service deserves to be recognised.”
Charles Cowling, author of the Good Funeral Guide says: “Choosing a funeral director can be very difficult because they all look much the same. But they’re not. Some, a precious few, are truly outstanding, and Rosedale is one of only two in Norfolk to reach this standard. The team at Rosedale are unsung heroes doing a magnificent job, and the people of Wymondham deserve to know this. Bereaved people need to do their very best for their loved one. They deserve the very best funeral director.”

Time for concerts, picnics in the park and the Attleborough Carnival but ....... the not so good news is that these things all cost money. Depressing or what? Is it time that you sorted out your finances? Have you received your tax credits annual summary? Did you know that if we here at KBA can call tax credits for you (easy authorisation required) and we can deal with your award for the coming year. Surely that has got to be good, no more hanging around in an interminable queue listening to an irritating message saying that you could be doing this on line or you could call back another time!!! Just hand it all over to us and we will sort it for you. Of course if you are self employed you might like us to estimate your earnings for you by the 31 July 2013 deadline and we can then call back at a later date and confirm your actual earnings once we have completed your accounts for you. Why not get organised and make an
appointment to see us today and we can get this underway – no more worrying just hand it all over. How are you finding the Real Time Information for PAYE? Is this working out ok for you or could you do with a hand? Here at KBA we have helped a number of employers with their payroll since the new legislation came in and we get the feeling that they can’t quite believe how easy and relatively cheap it is to let someone else do the work and take the strain. Why not give us a call 01953 457173 to find out how much it would cost to do your payroll - bet it is a lot less than you think. So instead of spending your summer worrying about your finances and how much there is to do, why not make one phone call to us - come in for an initial FREE consultation and we can do the rest for you. Then sit back enjoy the summer - there are far nicer things to do than sit and complete your tax return when you could be outside enjoying the sun.

Attleborough Funeral Director Realises His Ambition Andy and his wife Vicky and their two children, Lewis and Jade, moved to Attleborough in 1998. Lewis was 3 and Jade was a year old. they fell in love with the town after several visits to family here from their home in Chelmsford, Essex. They loved the friendliness of the residents and shop keepers of the Town and realized they would love to relocate here. For more than a decade Andy has been employed in the funeral industry. He has been a Funeral Director, the longest serving in recent years to both live and work in the town. He had worked for other local funeral companies, some big national concerns and a larger independent company. He is fully qualified as a Funeral Director within the National Association of Funeral Directors. It has always been Andy’s ambition to run his own small family run funeral home, He and Vicky decided that 2013 was the right time to go ahead. Officially opening on the 15th April this year was quite a challenge. Vicky and Andy, with the help of Alan and Penny, Vicky’s parents, and Rita and Ken, Andy’s parents, transformed Fairfields, High Street, Attleborough into a warm, welcoming and comfortable environment, with a relaxing lounge where families can come to make arrangements for their loved ones funeral. Vicky, works in the business part-time taking care of the administration while working part-time as a dental nurse in Diss. Alan is head bearer and hearse driver, he keeps the vehicles maintained to a very high standard. Penny helps with the bookkeeping, and Rita and Ken, who run
their own outside catering business, will take care of catering for families if they wish. Lewis and Jade, now 18 and 16 would like to be involved in the business too. Andy can often be seen tinkering, as his wife Vicky puts it, with the hanging baskets or cleaning the front of the building in the mornings. He is very proud of his premises. As a family run business Andy and his family believe in looking after everyone’s loved one as if they are one of their own, providing the very best of care and focusing on the needs of the family at all times. He is very much a traditionalist when it comes to the funeral itself, wearing a Victorian style frock coat, a top hat and carrying a silver topped cane and black leather gloves. However, if a family requests that he and the bearers wear a coloured necktie to personalise a funeral he is more than willing to do so. He believes in showing respect at all time. Andy prides himself on providing a very personal service, looking after families personally from the onset of losing a loved one through to the day of the funeral and beyond himself. He believes that continuity of care is of the utmost importance to the families he is privileged to help and gets satisfaction from helping them to arrange a funeral which is fitting to the life that has been led. You can contact Andy at Fairfields, High Street, Attleborough, (01953) 452455, he is available 24 hours.

Window Geeks “Replacing your steamed-up windows doesn’t mean you have to replace the whole window…Save thousands by changing only the glass”… It can be stressful when things break or go wrong, especially when it seems the only solution comes at great expense. Unexpected bills can hit households very hard at a time when every penny counts and it means that thousands of homeowners put off fixing their windows or doors for fear of the high costs usually associated with these types of products... Well now you can relax…because WindowGeeks, a national window, door and conservatory repair specialist, has expanded into Norwich and will service the whole of the Norfolk region, giving local home owners access to real money-saving options; one that can reduce what could be an alarming bill in the thousands to a far more acceptable one in the low hundreds - and in most cases even lower than that. The fact is that the average single repair or replacement undertaken by WindowGeeks, which includes locks, handles and hinges, as well as the usual replacement of steamed-up double glazed units is less
than £60...not surprising really when you consider that the replacement of a single steamed-up double glazed window starts from as low as £30 including VAT and fitting…which is why, at this point, many people take the opportunity to upgrade to energy efficient double glazed units. Our new local and experienced team, headed up by Steve Olley, join all of our other skilled craftsmen and women throughout the UK, each providing a professional and cost effective service to 1,000s of customers from Plymouth in the Southwest, through Norwich in the East, up to Preston in the North and all points in-between… “Lots of people have problems with their windows,” says Steve, “They get steamed-up and won’t clear, or the locks stick or the handles get loose…and it becomes even more of a problem at this time of year when cold draughts get through...but what’s really surprising is that most people don’t realise that all of these problems can be fixed quickly and without spending a fortune or having to
sell one or more of their children, unless they want to of course”… WindowGeeks has over 38 years’ experience in the glazing industry and it’s sad to think that there are still quite a few traditional window companies that either refuse or just don’t want to carryout repairs…now were not saying that all double glazing companies don’t carry out repairs, many do, and do a great job, but Steve adds, “In most cases they’re not really interested in the smaller jobs and that’s what’s so great about WindowGeeks, we offer a real cost-effective solution, which makes it a very easy decision for our customers to choose us...there’s no pressure sales from us because there’s no viable alternative, unless, that is, you want to spend 10, 20 or even 100 times more on replacing all your double glazing!” While the cost savings might be the biggest draw, there’s another reason customers should choose WindowGeeks and one that has inevitably convinced many customers throughout the UK to use us;
“It’s all about honesty and trust,” says Steve. “There’s integrity in what WindowGeeks do and that’s very important to me, we tell the truth, only charge for what needs doing and we always honour our promises…We run a very successful and ethical business based on good old fashioned customer service backed up with top quality products and support from our head office.” WindowGeeks provides free quotations with; • No call out charges • No credit card charges • No deposits • No minimum order values, • No high pressure sales men or women • No hidden extras • 10 year guarantee on all glazed products All our quotes include VAT and Fitting Call now for a FREE QUOTE on 0800 61 22 943 or visit us at www.windowgeeks.co.uk

East Anglia Air Ambulance Enter The Dragon Mystical creatures will be coming to Norwich this summer to impart their supernatural powers on sea lovers and land dwellers alike in a bid to raise money for a local charity. Dragon boats will be docking at Whitlingham Outdoor Education Centre at Whitlingham County Park for the first East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) Dragon Boat Race. One that the charity hopes will become an annual event. Jess Down, EAAA Fundraising Manager
said: “As a charity which relies on community fundraising we’re often asked which events people can attend in order to support our life saving work. Until now, we’ve only really had a fun run which people can come along to in the area which isn’t always great for those who don’t enjoy running. We’ve therefore organised our first ever dragon boat race as it will be great fun for both those taking part and spectators.” Taking place on Sunday 21 July, in Trowse near Norwich, the event is being organised by the charity to raise vital funds to help the air ambulance enhance its hours
of service and enable them to cover incidents which occur after dark. Those looking for a different type of challenge are invited to sign up and take part as the charity is now looking for teams of 15 to fill the boats, and there’ll be a prize for the best dressed participants. Jess continued: “It’s only through these sorts of events that we can continue to operate and send our crews to patients who really need their expert help.” Teams are made up of ten paddlers and one drummer although teams can consist of up to 15 people to allow for substitutions. Each team member is asked to pay a registration fee of £38 (based on a full team of 15) and the charity asks that the team raise a further £500 between them. For further details, or to book your place, contact Jess Down on 01603 489406 or email: jess.down@eaaa.org.uk Follow us on Twitter at @EastAngliAirAmb or ‘like’ our Facebook page – East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity.

ShowTime! Wayland Agricultural Show will celebrate its 140th year. The Wayland Agricultural Show, one of the longest running traditional agricultural shows in the UK, celebrates its 140th year when it returns on Sunday 4th August 2013. After an enormous amount of support from the local community, the show is returning this year to Watton with a jam-packed lineup of entertainment for all the family, and to raise funds for local charities and community projects. Graham Shingfield, chairman of the Wayland Agricultural Show says: “We are relieved that the Wayland Agricultural Show is able to take place, and have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from our sponsors, members, traders and exhibitors. Redwings Horse Sanctuary Join the staff and horses at Redwings Horse Sanctuary for a fantastic weekend at the charity’s headquarters in Hapton, South of Norwich. This beautiful site in the heart of the Norfolk countryside is not normally open to the public, but will be ‘flinging wide its gates’ on the weekend of the 13th and 14th July from 10am to 4pm so visitors can see behind the scenes at Redwings. Best of all, entry is free of charge. This is a great chance to ‘rub noses’ with over 300 of the Sanctuary’s special rescued horses and ponies, and you can also visit the on-site horse hospital, take tours around the 350 acre site and watch displays from the handling and rehoming teams too. If it all gets a bit too exciting there will be a café and gift shop on site where you can grab a slice of cake and a rest but don’t linger too long or you may miss gorgeous orphaned foal Stephen having his dinner! There will be free children’s activities as well as a fantastic prize draw and donated tack sale, so there really is something for everyone! Dogs on leads are welcome too. Redwings is the largest horse sanctuary in the UK, currently caring for over 1300 rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and
mules at nine sites across England. The charity has four visitor centres that are open on a more regular basis, including two in Norfolk. The first is at Caldecott Hall near Great Yarmouth, which is open daily during the Summer and is home to more than 100 of Redwings rescued horses, ponies, donkeys and mules such as handsome heavy horse Prince and cheeky donkey Denise!

UK BULLION DIRECT 17
Norwich Businessman Launches A Sparkling Solution To Poor Uk Pension Performance… A local businessman, Siam Kidd (Director of ukBullionDirect.com), has responded to the Daily Telegraph announcement that “UK Pension performance is among the worst in the developed world”, with a pioneering new solution using a simple monthly savings plan for buying pure investment grade Silver bullion coins. Nothing electronic would work without Silver and as a result, it’s the 2nd most used commodity in the world. It turns out that there are no substitutes and planet will be totally exhausted of economically mineable Silver in 7 years. No wonder Banks, Billionaires and Countries are racing to buy this hot commodity. Until recently, you needed to buy it in large amounts and so this has not been an option for the man in the street until now. But thanks to Siam, it is now possible for anyone to buy Silver as an investment and as a DIY Pension Plan, from as little as £40 a month. Siam says “We created this with the average person in mind and mapped out what would be better than the standard ISA or pension. So now anyone can have
a DIY pension that has outpaced inflation over the last 40 years and unaffected by Interest rates or Government Policy. Also the type of Silver we use doesn’t incur any Capital Gains Tax. In fact the worse the world economy gets, the better Silver does. People remain in full control of their Silver and can cash in as much as they
wish whenever they wish. No more waiting until retirement age.”
account, which would now be worth £12,000 - less Tax.
Surely there must be a risk involved, as this all sounds too easy? Well it seems that the only risk is where to store it and how much the silver price will go up by, as ten years ago it was at £3 an ounce, and is now selling at £28 an ounce, so £100 a month ten years ago would now give you a whopping £70,000, compared with the same amount in a savings
Let Siam Answer Your Questions: An ex RAF Pilot/Officer turned full time private trader and investor who is now determined to help businesses and residents to not just survive the current recession, but to successfully navigate it to a happy and comfortable retirement. Siam is currently on a UK tour of seminars as a Gold & Silver Investing Specialist Key Note Speaker as the Director of ukBullionDirect.com. So that’s great news for Norfolk residents and business owners, and remember… You heard it here first!

How Often Should You Replace Acrylic Nails? Have you ever wondered how long you should wear acrylic nails before getting a new set?
to the acetone polish remover. Soak for ten minutes at a time. The acrylic will begin to turn into a gel.
Most people with acrylic nails visit the salon every couple of weeks for a fill-in, where your nail technician will apply acrylic to the new growth on the nail bed.
Remove as much as you can with a nail file. Repeat this process until all the acrylic has been removed.
But how often in between regular maintenance should artificial nails be replaced? You should wait no longer than six to eight weeks to have your artificial nails replaced. To remove your artificial nails you can soak them off at home before your appointment at the nail salon. To soak your nails off, use nail polish remover that contains acetone. If you have sensitive skin you can try a test spot to see how your skin reacts
July 2013
You can also opt for the salon to remove your nails. Most salons use cuticle trimmers to remove the artificial nail; because the acrylic is torn off the nail bed, layers of your natural nail may be removed. So it is best to soak the acrylic off your nails. Remember to always visit a professionally licensed salon that follows the proper sanitary guidelines. For more details or advice on which nail treatment will work best for you please contact Paige on 01953 881496.

Allergy-free Zone Top Tips to - making your home an allergy-free zone. The fibres in your chairs and carpets harbour thousands of hidden allergens and allergy sufferers might be surprised to know... this is a good thing!
If you use a gently slapping action while you vacuum you will loosen the dust particles, making it easier to vacuum them up.
The fibres of your carpet and upholstery act as filters, holding the spores and pollen reducing the amount in the air and thus the amount you breathe in.
Pollen in your curtains Dirt Your curtains are constantly exposed to indoor and outdoor dust and debris and, in particular, pollen.
Pollen in your sofa Pollen is in the air all around us and upholstery fabrics are fantastic at capturing and holding these minute particles meaning every time you flop into your favourite sofa or chair, millions of allergens are thrown into the air and all around you. To combat this it is recommend your upholstery should be thoroughly vacuumed to remove the allergens. Take off all cushions and use the nozzle attachment to vacuum the hard to reach areas including, arms, sides and creases of the fabric.

produced by general day-to-day living. Mould physically cannot live where there is air movement, so opening doors and windows to “air” homes, whenever possible should be done.
A simple tip is to simply vacuum the curtains while you are doing the rest of the room. Go in both directions, up and down, so you get rid of any allergens trapped in the pile of a fabric such as velvet which is commonly used to make curtains.
One of the easiest and most effective ways of preventing the build up of dirt on your floors is to invest in a good set of door mats. A harsher mat on the outside to remove any outside debris combined with a softer mat on the inside to absorb moisture will help to keep your floors cleaner. Dust
Don’t forget pelmets and pleats, great for harbouring unwanted pollen and dust!
If dust is an issue for your health, consider carpet rather than hardwood flooring.
Mould
Carpets can actually be a better option for allergy sufferers, because the fibres of the carpet act like a filter, catching pollen and spores and not letting them hover in the atmosphere of the room.
One of the greatest problems with modern, well insulated homes is the lack of airmovement needed to dispel moisture
To help maintain a clean and healthy environment, it is recommend you have your carpets professionally cleaned every six to twelve months. This will not only help to keep them dust and pollen free but will also prolong their lifespan. Pet Hair Pet hair can gradually build up in fibres and the surfaces of your soft furnishings. Try using a rubber glove to gently wipe across the surface. The hairs will ball together and can then be easily removed.

Birthday Present Ideas For Older People • Buy or fill a box with blank cards that can be used for another person’s birthday, welcome home, sympathy, new baby, etc by writing the appropriate greeting in and add a book of stamps. If they give gifts themselves, add wrapping paper and tags. • If the older person is relatively mobile and likes to shop or visit friends, buy a “taxi fare float” from a local taxi company that can be used when the person chooses. • Go online and send half a dozen, beautifully decorated cupcakes to be sent once a month. • Many large print jigsaws now follow a reminiscence theme, these will providing stimulation and a talking point for visitors. Talking books are excellent entertainment so a cd player with an audio book would make an excellent gift. After that future audio books can be borrowed free from a library.
• A Pay As You Go Mobile is a gift that can be used if a person goes out and needs to call a taxi or is out and does not feel well. Similarly, if an older person’s home phone is old, why not think about replacing it with a new one with big numbers and key in the important numbers, family, friends, doctors, hairdresser, etc. • A subscription to a magazine is a gift that lasts all year and the range now available to buy is large e.g. Best of British, This England, etc. • A beautiful blanket such as a ‘Huggerug’ makes a welcome present and they are available in a waterproof version for outdoors. • A trip out for lunch is always welcomed and looked forward to. If you book ahead always mention if you are bringing a wheelchair, your companion has mobility problems, needs to be near the rest room, etc.
Shopping Tips Making Shopping Easier for Elderly and Disabled People. Many of us have both local shops and supermarkets in the area in which we live. However, if you are an older person or you have a disability, which one is the most suitable to make your shopping more of a pleasure than a chore? If you would like to find out, contact your local shop or supermarket and ask some of the following questions. Their answers may help you decide who will benefit from your custom.
• If I arrive by taxi and I do not want to pay to keep it waiting, do you have the facility for me to order a taxi in the store when I am ready to leave? • If there is a petrol station at the supermarket and are staff available to help me fill up my car?
• If you are mobile but need to take your time are there chairs available for you to sit on for a rest?
• Is there a home delivery service if I want to phone in my order?

• Are there hearing loops at kiosk/ checkout points?
• Have you a wheelchair that I can borrow and do you have trolleys especially designed for use with a wheelchair?
• Are there low level writing shelves and disabled checkouts?
• If I go on my own, will you have a member of staff who can accompany me to help with my selection of goods?
July 2013
• Will there be a member of staff to help me pack at the checkout and then be able to take my shopping to the car?
• If there is a cafe is it disabled friendly? Articles by Angela Gifford MD of Able Community Care Ltd.
