Dispatch Magazine have been responsible for producing the ‘Official’ Town Guide in Wymondham since 2004, working closely with the Town Council. However, this year we are working independently, so we are able to produce the new guide without the constraints which are placed upon us when working with local authorities. The new Guide for Wymondham will have a new fresh design, and will follow a similar theme to that of Dispatch Magazine, which we are prised for month on month. The new Guide for Wymondham will bring information on all the various Clubs, Organisations, Charities and Businesses in and around the town, ensuring all the vital information for residents is available in one handy size booklet. We will of course publish the guide online too, as we are very aware that we are now living in the digital age. We invite all Clubs, Organisations, Charities and Businesses to send in their most up to date information to ensure it is included in the new guide, remember to also include your Facebook
and Twitter details as well as your traditional contact information. There will be editorial space to promote your club, a directory of organisations and of course advertising for businesses who want to promote their products and services to the residents of Wymondham. Please do not hesitate to contact us on 01953 456789 to discuss any aspect of the new Guide for Wymondham, or submit your information via email to: editorial@DispatchMagazine.co.uk

Father’s Remembered This month, while many celebrate Father’s day, there will be a group of people spending this special day without their father and we have commissioned a special book of memories from which people may draw comfort by expressing how they feel or sharing prayers, poems, thoughts and inspirational sayings. Anyone who has been bereaved of their father can contribute to the book, and children and young people are also encouraged. The pages will be kept for many years and will be a testament to the understanding and acceptance that comes with the passing of seasons. You do not have to be profound! You may wish to include your thoughts and feelings about your father’s death as well as any special memories you have of his life. Share how he made you feel and the special things he did for you. Just to say you are remembering someone special is enough. There will be a Father’s day book of memories in Rosedale Funeral Home at 16 Middleton Street, Wymondham. We have also purchased a limited number of beautiful “peace” rose bushes from Peter Beales Roses for families to take away and plant in memory of their father. If you would
like to receive a rose, please contact us on 01953 601103. The roses and the book of memories will be available in the week prior to Father’s day and we will also be open on the Sunday morning between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon for those wishing to contribute on the day. And in the days surrounding father’s day, remember it’s OK to grieve for your father in your own way. Many people grieve outwardly, through tears and expressed emotions, while others grieve inwardly and keep the hurt they feel to themselves. If talking or writing about the situation makes you feel better, then you should express yourself but remember that in the early days of a loss, you aren’t obligated to anyone to tell them how you feel. There is no right way to grieve.

Things Are Looking Good! Priory Insurance Brokers Ltd We have just had some lovely sunny warm weather and May was nice to us with not one but TWO bank holidays. We love bank holidays here at KBA because it gives us time to have a sneaky day off, recharge our batteries and be ready to work extra hard come Tuesday (well that’s the theory!). Also we have GROWN! I hope you noticed that our advert is bigger and we have more space thanks to those lovely people at Dispatch. Sunny weather makes us all feel a lot better about most things and keeping on top of all those day to day chores is so much easier in the summer when we can bribe ourselves with a drink in the sun either in the pub, cafe or even in the garden at home. Why not sort out your book keeping and tax affairs while you are outside too. Or even better than that, why not bring all your book work into us here at KBA. We can make you a FREE initial consultation where we can discuss what you need, take some details from you and you can sit back, enjoy the sunshine and leave us to do the rest. That has got to be better than stressing over your tax return when you could be relaxing in your deck chair.
We deal with all kinds of accounts here at KBA, from self employed, through limited company accounts to capital gains computations, VAT returns and Payroll to name just a few. If you are having problems getting to grips with Real Time submissions for your payroll, why not give us a call or email. We have payroll software that will deal with all aspects of your payroll at a very reasonable price. Or maybe if you receive tax credits, you might like us to complete your self employed accounts to confirm your taxable profit so that you don’t need to estimate your profit and risk having to pay back your tax credits award this year. We understand that all aspects of accounting can be stressful and we want to help you reduce the stress involved in your life. Come and have a chat with us (did I mention it’s free?) and we can take care of your accountancy needs while you sit back and relax. Perhaps you could order us a nice cool drink for when we have finished?
Can We Really Afford Not To Take Out Travel Insurance? Despite the downturn in the economy, with the recent poor weather and constant rain and snow in February and March, we have seen more and more people looking for breaks in sunnier climates, but can we really afford to cut corners and not take out Travel Insurance?
start from as little as £57.35 per couple for Annual European cover. Please feel free to call in to our Wymondham Office for quotations or advice and speak with Lucy or Mike who will be pleased to assist.

Window Geeks “Replacing your steamed-up windows doesn’t mean you have to replace the whole window…Save thousands by changing only the glass”… It can be stressful when things break or go wrong, especially when it seems the only solution comes at great expense. Unexpected bills can hit households very hard at a time when every penny counts and it means that thousands of homeowners put off fixing their windows or doors for fear of the high costs usually associated with these types of products... Well now you can relax…because WindowGeeks, a national window, door and conservatory repair specialist, has expanded into Norwich and will service the whole of the Norfolk region, giving local home owners access to real money-saving options; one that can reduce what could be an alarming bill in the thousands to a far more acceptable one in the low hundreds - and in most cases even lower than that. The fact is that the average single repair or replacement undertaken by WindowGeeks, which includes locks, handles and hinges, as well as the usual replacement of steamed-up double glazed units is less
than £60...not surprising really when you consider that the replacement of a single steamed-up double glazed window starts from as low as £30 including VAT and fitting…which is why, at this point, many people take the opportunity to upgrade to energy efficient double glazed units. Our new local and experienced team, headed up by Steve Olley, join all of our other skilled craftsmen and women throughout the UK, each providing a professional and cost effective service to 1,000s of customers from Plymouth in the Southwest, through Norwich in the East, up to Preston in the North and all points in-between… “Lots of people have problems with their windows,” says Steve, “They get steamed-up and won’t clear, or the locks stick or the handles get loose…and it becomes even more of a problem at this time of year when cold draughts get through...but what’s really surprising is that most people don’t realise that all of these problems can be fixed quickly and without spending a fortune or having to
sell one or more of their children, unless they want to of course”… WindowGeeks has over 38 years’ experience in the glazing industry and it’s sad to think that there are still quite a few traditional window companies that either refuse or just don’t want to carryout repairs…now were not saying that all double glazing companies don’t carry out repairs, many do, and do a great job, but Steve adds, “In most cases they’re not really interested in the smaller jobs and that’s what’s so great about WindowGeeks, we offer a real cost-effective solution, which makes it a very easy decision for our customers to choose us...there’s no pressure sales from us because there’s no viable alternative, unless, that is, you want to spend 10, 20 or even 100 times more on replacing all your double glazing!” While the cost savings might be the biggest draw, there’s another reason customers should choose WindowGeeks and one that has inevitably convinced many customers throughout the UK to use us;
“It’s all about honesty and trust,” says Steve. “There’s integrity in what WindowGeeks do and that’s very important to me, we tell the truth, only charge for what needs doing and we always honour our promises…We run a very successful and ethical business based on good old fashioned customer service backed up with top quality products and support from our head office.” WindowGeeks provides free quotations with; • No call out charges • No credit card charges • No deposits • No minimum order values, • No high pressure sales men or women • No hidden extras • 10 year guarantee on all glazed products All our quotes include VAT and Fitting Call now for a FREE QUOTE on 0800 61 22 943 or visit us at www.windowgeeks.co.uk

Study Shows Lack Of Deaf Awareness By Karen Finch RHAD FSHAA FRSA, Managing Director and Audiologist at The Hearing Care Centre. If you have a loved one who lives in a care home, it is likely that they are missing out on one their most important senses: the ability to hear properly. According to the UK national charity Action on Hearing Loss, three out of four people living in a care home in England will have hearing loss that hasn’t been diagnosed or managed properly. That means a quarter of a million people in care homes in England may be having trouble hearing properly - a figure that is expected to rise over the years to a staggering 620,000 by 2032.
And the phrase “not able to hear properly” hides the real damage to quality of life that hearing loss can cause.
AoHL’s study showed that care workers weren’t trained in deaf awareness and had a limited understanding of hearing aids.
To find out more information visit www.hearingcarecentre.co.uk/carehomes
Struggling to hear what’s been said around them, people with hearing loss tire more easily and may begin to withdraw from everyday interaction because that is easier that having to ask everyone to repeat what they say or to misunderstanding the conversation.
So even those residents who had been prescribed hearing aids, had to suffer a range of problems, including flat batteries and whistling hearing aids because their carers didn’t know how to adjust and maintain them.
Local centres in: Attleborough, Botesdale, Dereham and Wymondham
This can lead to a resident feeling isolated and the wrong assumption being made by their care workers that they are simply confused because of their age.
One of the main AoHL recommendations was for training for care home staff so they are well-informed on how to use hearing aids, and how to adjust and maintain them.
So what’s to be done?
If you know of a Suffolk residential or nursing home that could benefit from such training, get in touch with me at karenfinch@ hearingcarecentre.co.uk. We need to help educate these employees, so that they can offer the very best care to our loved ones.

old buckenham airshow 15
Old Buckenham Airshow - 22nd & 23rd June Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd of June 2013. Full Lineup For The Biggest Airshow Yet Revealed: Wildcat Aerobatics - It’ll come as no surprise that our first booking was Old Buckenhams resident Aerobatic Display Team. What will surprise everyone is the incredible display they’re working on just for us. Mystery Ship - Old Buckenham Airshow is delighted to confirm that it has just become the first airshow to book the extraordinary Travel Air Type R Mystery Ship. The Mystery Ship entered the 1929 Cleveland Air Race and, without warning, won the race against a field of military entrants who had previously dominated the event. It has taken over four years of painstaking work to re-create this legend using the original plans. The result promises to be one of the most significant additions to the display flying circuit in years. RV8tors - Flying their remarkably fast, fully aerobatic aircraft with powerful smoke systems, the RV8tors perform a thrilling and unforgettable display. Lauren Richardson - Lauren is a 25 year old Pitts Special expert and Britain’s top female aerobatic pilot. Stylish, action packed lines contrast against fast and graceful sweeping figures as Lauren shows off this beautiful red and white biplane in all its modern barnstorming and extreme aerobatic glory. Old Flying Machine Company The Old Flying Machine Company is arguably the best warbird display company in the UK and it’s Spitfire and Mustang Duo of MH434 and Ferocious Frankie must surely be the most famous single aircraft on earth. The stars of countless movies and TV programmes, these two legends are of major historical significance, yet they will be taken to their limits in a thrilling display, accompanied by the soundtrack of their mighty engines.
Brendan O’Brien - Brendan will be familiar from his TV series and numerous appearances as one of aviation’s leading exponents. Renowned as one of the most talented pilots every to display, Brendan will combine his extraordinary Flying Circus with an attempt at the shortest ever truck top landing. If successful we will be applying for this record to be recognized by the Guinness Book of Records, adding to over 200 FAI World Records Brendan already holds. Hangar 11: Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk In the hands of Pete Teichmann, air display legend, this film star saw active service in WWII, and today provides a stunning display which puts many modern aerobatic machines to shame. The noise is also a wonderful feature of this important piece of military history. Matt Summers: Matt’s airshow debut was at Old Buckenham 2012 in his Vans RV7. His flawless display was the talk of the aviation community immediately afterward, none of whom could believe that a “rookie” could wow the crowds as seasoned pros can. Matt’s back for more, so make sure you see this inevitable air display legend at the beginning of his career. John Sully - John Sully’s Taylor Titch is a Formula One Racer, designed in 1964 to an RAeC competition specification using the Continental C 90 aero engine. The display consists of fast fly-pasts, zoom climbs, wing overs, Cuban eights and rolling manoeuvres. Owing to the small size of the aircraft the speed appears much higher than expected and gives a sparkling performance. Adrian Willis - Adrian Willis is a highly experienced aerobatic pilot and is one of the UK’s leading aerobatic instructors, teaching the next generation of aviators their trade. Not only is Adrian displaying at the show, but you can also book a trial lesson with him over the airshow weekend to experience the thrills of aerobatic flying first hand with a master of the art.
The Scene Of Two World Record Attempts. Old Buckenham Airfield is delighted to announce that aviation legend and TV presenter Brendan O’Brien will attempt two World Records on the 23rd June 2013. The highlight of the airshow will see Brendan attempt the shortest runway length truck top touch and go as well as the same feat with a full landing. Applications have been made to the Guinness Book of World Records so that the records can be formally recognized. These exceptionally difficult records will add to over 200 aviation world records held by Brendan which are ratified by the FAI in Paris. The attempts will be a
part of O’Briens Flying Circus, a world famous display of aerial theatre which includes crazy flying and breathtaking pyrotechnics. Matt Wilkins, Old Buckenham’s Airfield Manager said “We’re truly staggered and delighted to welcome Brendan to Old Buck in June. A familiar face from his work on Discovery Wings, Brendan is known to millions as the face of aviation, a position achieved by being one of the most respected and talented pilots currently flying. His display will be completely unforgettable and the possibility of two world records being set in a day is the stuff of dreams. We can’t wait for June.”
The First To Confirm The Unique Travel Air Mystery Ship Old Buckenham Airshow is delighted to confirm that it has just become the first airshow to book the extraordinary Travel Air Type R Mystery Ship for a display as part of the airshow on the 22nd and 23rd June. The Mystery Ship entered the 1929 Cleveland Air Race and, without warning, won the race against a field of military entrants who had previously dominated the event. In doing so the aircraft entered aviation legend and forced the US military to completely change their strategy towards favouring single wing aircraft, rather than the two winged biplanes that were perceived as being superior. It has taken over four years of painstaking work to re-create this legend using the original plans. The result promises to be
one of the most significant additions to the display flying circuit in years. Matt Wilkins, Airfield Manager and Airshow Organiser – “Old Buckenham always likes to play host to extraordinary acts at the airshow. It’s therefore fitting that we’re the first airfield to confirm this extraordinary feat of aviation at the show. The Mystery Ship promises to be as loud as it is stunning to see and we’re grateful to Richard Seeley and Jeremy Cooke for the opportunity to offer our spectators something truly unique and unforgettable” The airshow will also feature the world famous Spitfire and Mustang Duo of the Old Flying Machine Company along with two record attempts by aviation hero Brendan O’Brien. Microchip Law
Mini Monkey Gym
Are You a Responsible Pet Owner?
Would you like a new and exciting career that fits around your family life?
As of 2016, every dog owner in England will have to microchip their animal - the new compulsory legislation comes under plans intended to reduce the number of strays in the UK. The microchip will be coded with owners’ details, enabling vets to locate the owners if a dog is found, and owners who do not comply could face fines of up to £500. An incredibly amount of taxpayers’ money - £57million per year - is spent on caring for and rehoming stray dogs. The new ruling will hopefully cut this figure dramatically and save over 100,000 dogs from being abandoned and left homeless. Microchipping is a simple and inexpensive solution that gives pet owners peace of mind - It allows vets to locate the owners of s stray dog if one is brought into the practice.
It’s also much easier to trace and find a stolen dog.
Would you like to earn a full time salary working part time around your children?
The Old Golfhouse Veterinary Group are now running a special offer whereby you can microchip your dog for the special price of £9.99 including VAT.
Own your own Mini Monkey Gym business and you can achieve all this! Established 2009 in Norwich, Mini Monkey Gym, are giving enthusiastic, ambitious individuals the opportunity to develop their own business as Mini Monkey Gym expands into a franchise network across Norfolk and the rest of the UK.

Thetford Grammar School ...is a friendly and family based community, a high achieving co-educational day school in East Anglia, running through from pupils aged 3½ in the Junior School to the Sixth Form. We are a school of just over 300 in number, where the individual is central to our purpose. The strength of this “all through” school is that it enables us to place great emphasis on a supportive environment, one in which pupils take responsibility for themselves and for each other, as reflected in the caring way seniors work with juniors. The recent Inspection report commented that our pupils “develop into caring and responsible young people with a very positive attitude to learning, working well individually and with one another.” The Junior department is a particular strength of Thetford Grammar School where pupil progress was described as excellent in EYFS and very good in Years 1 - 6, following our most
recent inspection. Small class sizes enable our dedicated staff to tailor learning to individual needs and a broad curriculum incorporates a range of learning opportunities both inside the classroom and outdoors. In the supportive, productive and rewarding educational environment of our Junior School, exciting and challenging learning experiences are provided for all pupils in our care. High expectations are set and pupils “approach learning with abundant enthusiasm,” resulting in a productive and successful learning environment for our youngest pupils. Academic success is at the heart of our activities. Over a five-year average, 72% of grades achieved at A level are A* to B with 100% A* to E. At GCSE, 54% of grades achieved are A* or A with 100% A* - C.
The report spoke of “articulate and confident pupils who develop their creativity and work independently, thinking logically and analytically”. The development of the whole person is also of great significance for us. Creativity is an important quality which we strive to encourage whether it be through Art, Music, Drama, Sport or indeed in any classroom. There is a full programme of extracurricular activity and we seek to blend in the traditions of hard work and extra-curricular activity with an awareness of the need to produce rounded individuals, sensitive to others and fully equipped to meet the challenges of a modern technological society. Our Sixth Form Centre combines medieval walls with modern glass and steel, the very best of both worlds and that is exactly how we see ourselves.
Each year we welcome students from other schools into our Sixth Form where we are able to provide excellent teaching and close individual support, thus enabling students to achieve their full potential. Our sixth-formers “show excellent levels of leadership and maturity” and are prepared carefully for the next stage of their lives. Our pupils come from all round the region, Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire - a testament to our popularity. But come and see for yourselves. Bring your children for a ‘taster’ day with us, as a starting point. Let them be the best judge of whether TGS is the right environment for them. We are confident they will say yes!
