The Source Photographic Archives library was established in the early 1970s to collect and exhibit the work of work of creative and documentary photographers.

The collection is being continually updated and expanded. The images shown here are a selection from a much larger collection that includes work from a number of photographers. All of these images are available to publishers, authors and picture researchers.

About us

The picture collection was established following the opening of the Source Gallery in Henrietta Street during the Dublin Arts Festival in1972. Although the original gallery no longer exists, the library collection continues to provide an expanding platform for creative, press and documentary photographers. Inclusion of images has always been based on exceptional creative qualities and lasting value. Photograph from the collection have been exhibited widely in galleries around the world or have featured in numerous books and magazines.

Apart from collecting and preserving the work of distinguished photographers, the aim of the library is to provide publishers, editors,and picture researchers with access to the collection. It is also possible to order fine archival exhibition quality prints from the collection.

From the series highlighting everyday life in Northern Ireland by Robert Ashby. Robert is a master of the straight, unadorned documentary style.

Some of the press coverage from 1974 reporting on how a number of freelance photographers became involved in establishing the Source Photographic Archives library.

One of Rod Tuach’s photographs from a fair in County Kerry. Rod, one of the founding contributors to the Source Archives collection was made a member of Aosdána by the Irish Arts Council in recognition for his work in photography.

From 2001 to 2004 another exhibition space for photographic prints was opened at the Foxford Woollen Mills in County Mayo. A number of exhibitions were held at the Source Foxford Gallery including a group show by young Russian photographers, press work by John Kelly, prints from the Wynne collection, and Connemara landscapes by Fergus Bourke.
