Sealed with the time Course project: 'Time' Theme design Instructor: Ting Han Time: a 2012
After reviewing the usage of stamp, I found there are more place we need a stamp. Also, I was thinking that 'time' can be sensed in another way
The purpose of this ‘seal clock' is to take down the memorable moment you want, maybe in a museum, on the dairy ,in the club, maybe for adult or for kindergarten child.
The ink pad Pressing part
Holding the watch's gadget Number and hands parts
1. The first model I made is for the prototype I made .
During the prototyping, I found one question about realizing the mechanism with a mechanical clock. The hands (hour hand and minute hand) are not in the same plane (because they are driven by different gear.
The solutions are 1. Like the illustration, make a little bulge at each hand, and . Then it can stamp two dots on the paper, even when two hands meet, it won't cause any problem for stamping. With the help of number stamped as well, user can recognize the time. 2. Change the mechanism, use
The second solution is to adapt the mechanism of a digital clock. And the model also got inspired by an ancient Chinese invention---Ceramic movable type (1040 A.D)
The illustration: during working, the movable part will become convex respectively, then the character demanding printed will appear.
After mock-up and modeling, I reconsidered the situations people will use it with more details. Additional, I rebuilt the model in a better outlook.
I wanted it to be used with few fingers, and can be attached with the key, due to time is a piece of information that one needs to get in just a glimpse anywhere, anytime. Here is the more ideal one, in my mind. 1. At normal mode, the 'Time Stamp' will display the time in digital number, with lights
2. Press the red button, then the 'Time Stamper' will change to stamp mode, display
3. The ink is stored inside, then one can easily stamp the time on a paper.

compared to the former design, this one has pros&cons in; and here is an illustration showing the aspect I considered during material selection
Pros: ■It can be made as a Universal Design (the bulges can be sensed by the blind) ■ The time can be easily read, no matter it is in 'normal' or 'stamp' model. ■The hole can facilitate taking it everywhere Cons; ■High standard for technologies (The material, the mechanic, the electricity....)
Make a CD House Course Project Instructor: Prof. Ting Han Time:Nov-Dec. 2012 I saw my family make the CDs piled-up to lift up the PC for better heat transformation. Then I thought how about a CD box can be more useful.
I started to draw about the problems one may meet among there music collections. a. For music lover, too many discs may take much space. The cds need piled-up b. Therefore, they may have less possible to pick up one by cover. c. To others, there may not be a proper place to place the disc
The idea of my solution came up with my favorite juggle toys--LEGO. I use them to built up something, and I always , not intentionally, put something on the juggles, and it was stable
The first question I have for this idea is 'what kind of material' can meet the requirements with abrasion/creep resistance, relatively high fatigue strength, transparency, etc. Also, a primary consideration about manufacturing is also generated.

Based on my study, I chose thermoplastic material , for easier and various manufacturing processes and most importantly, easier recycling. And after browsing relative information ('HANDBOOK OF MATERIALS FOR PRODUCT DESIGN' third edition.), I chose POM, PMMA, ABS, PE, PAL. And with the process, Injection Mouldling and Transfer Mouldling

Toothbrush plus Independent Project Aug.2013 This is a question raised by daily experience: Before the tour I am always in rush to buy the toothpaste that meet the requirement. Another thing about the toothbrush is that I always do not have a frequent changing period.
Through observation, I obtain the information of the postures, and the process people purchasing and using the toothbrush. (and also toothpaste). My ideas firstly aimed to ensure people have a regular period of changing toothbrush by limited toothbrush gel
The first idea kind like to add the toothpaste into a injector, by pressing, the toothpaste gel inside the brush can come out. Similarly, I made other additions.
This model also allow the user use limited volume of gel each time, which is also recommended by some dentists

The second model may be cheaper to produce, and The material will be saved. However, whether this mechanism will work needs further trial
By these ideas, the user may also reduce the procedures.
Chairs in the economic class Independent Project Jul. 2013
Based on my own experience and feedback from friends and family members, 3 major problem stands out: a.The uncomfortable experience due to the rigid chair b. The problem due to the space share with the passenger in front of you c.the inconvenience when trying to get out to the aisle
My solution was inspired by the U- shape pillow, which is familiar with travelers. Changing the pillow on the chair in that way, it could be more easier for rest, and also, fit the natural spine bend considering the ergonomic-the dorsiflexed
Cushion feelings Additionally, I tried to choose some material for each part, considering Abrasion resist & strength, relatively considerate price, popularity, tensile strength and specific weight slot: POM tablet: PC
brace: steel or PA
Make the pillow of the chair a U-shape and make it adjustable with angle and height. Therefore the pressure on the neck will be released, which may comfort the user.
When it comes to the table, the table is attached to the arm, but not the back of the front chair. Moving along the slot on the arm, it may be easier to create more space, and provide more convenience with passengers who wants to go out.
Above are mature designs solving the problem of separately. Mine design still have long way to go... Pros of mine: The stability of this structure; the difficulties in manufacturing the more complex chair and the add of the cost; at last, the inconvenience may still exist when the passenger inside trying to get out with the outside chair leaning.
A sneaker won’t get wet Class Project May. 2013
Hearing lots of my friends complain about water coming into their sneakers at rainy day, I began to realize the necessity of having a pair of sneakers with better waterproof quality.
Within 25 people who did the survey on-line Most of them (45.8%) choose to wear sneakers
Within 25 people who did the survey on-line, given the choices of different unexpected and uncomfortable situations to wear sneakers, 80% chose the option 'wearing a wet sneakers', which is higher than other options
Within these sneakers regular wearers, 46.15% people have a bad wearing experience in rainy day
Not only drew the sketch of my ideas, I also considered the position in which people will use these conceptual products.
Man made spider fibre, is a material that has the potency to absorb water and block it from going inside, and also let through the air flow when it is dry. Limited with the situation, I could not test the usability of this conceptual ideas.
I used paper, glue, TPU cloth and a disposed Nike shoes to make my model Find help from the tailors, I finally realize the model with the 'zipper' idea.
Therefore, the holes are blocked, and keep off the water
Without the zippier pulled up, the sneakers remain ventilated
There will be a small displacement for the upper layer of the mesh, and the holes in it will be moved away from the holes in the bottom layer
The upper layer of the TPU mesh is at the same position of the one at the bottom
When apply the zipper,
My finding of the schoolbag Class assignment, instructor: Zhanxun Dong Dec.2012
It is easy for the schoolbag to slipe down.(include me) .As shoulders of many people have a lighy slope, I decided to find whether it is the reason to blame for.
Does your bag frequently drop down from your shoulders?

What else kind of bag do they wear? (Also, showed in the additional questions in the survey, girls have less chances to use a schoolbag instead of a handbags, that explained the reason why there was a great difference in replies from different genders)
65 Average age 20-22
participants
Research indicated a prevalent phenomenon of a 'slippery school bag' .Boys and girls have the same chance to meet this phenomenon
angle α a(mm)
By recording the data above, it turned out that the physical difference might not be the reason for slipping. Alternatives reason could be the weak friction reaction between the cloth and the bag straps. angl α =18.5°
a(cm)=3.85
a(cm)=5.125
*the actual value of angle had been dubled to illustrate the data
Who's bag is slipping
Who's bag is stable
angle α = 16.2°
Applied another tensile force[with a bandage], the bag's performance is quite better than before, and it can also help to disperse the stress to the isthmus.
Then, I think, with more cloth added to the bag, is there any more function we can also add to the bag? The first thing is to prevent pilferage.
An extra bar of cloth for extra tension.
An extra pocket for stuffs like phone or ipod.
The zipper is embbed along this curve.

Conceptual Idea #2
a device, which can be attached on a watch, and can contribute to life searching during the earthquake
Present life searching may largely depend on the infrared ray or acoustic frequency . If the device can use a frequency that related to the natural frequency of concrete wall, or amplify the signal, the work efficiency may be improved. Also, attached to the watch make it possible to be with people all the time
Conceptual Idea #3 This one is a device that implants the function of face time, for the elderly. Being with my grandparents for most of the time, I knew clearly how much they missing their children and grandchildren. If there is a device, once connected to the internet, can simply dial the number and see the image of the children or friends through a small projector, they would alleviate their sorrow.
