Camp Catron Fall Fest

Grades K-12, Families Sunday, October 16, 2022 DBJCSAF Leaves are falling and autumn is calling! Join us at Fall Fest to discover the natural wonders of autumn. Learn about the history of scarecrows and make a mini scarecrow of your own, plant a fall flower garden using upcycled materials, and find creative ways to decorate a pumpkin. Take a fall hike to collect materials for a nature craft and then warm up around the fire with homemade spiced cider and s’mores. Adults must register with girls, using the required volunteer-to-girl ratios. Saturday, December 3, 2022 Join us at Camp Catron for a celebration of all things winter. We'll take a winter hike and enjoy the fresh winter air, then grab our fuzzy socks for a fireside hot cocoa bar. Once we're warmed up, we'll create winter bird feeders and a snowflake made from natural materials as we learn about the science behind snowflakes and winter bird watch together. Bring a sack lunch. Grades K-12, Families Saturday, January 21, 2023 DBJCSAF Spend a brisk afternoon at Camp Catron and learn all about birds! Start out with a birding lesson then grab your binoculars for a bird watching hike. After the hike we'll warm up inside and make a winter bird feeder and learn how to use technology to continue your bird watching at home and help scientists track bird migrations and populations. Adults must register with girls, using the required volunteer-to-girl ratios. Saturday, April 22, 2023 Did you know that bees are responsible for one out of three bites of food you enjoy? Or that butterflies are an important part of the food chain? Join us to learn all about the beautiful and the buzzy. You'll discover plant and bee-based products that benefit us, see how bees and butterflies help agriculture, and hear how flowers can increase creativity. Round out the day by creating a real flower and butterfly themed nature craft while you hear how you can aid in pollinator conservation. Bring a sack lunch. Hilltop House | Lincoln

Hilltop House is a delightful outdoor education facility where you will frequently spot deer, foxes, turkey, and other wildlife on the trails! Hilltop House also offers a warming kitchen, modern restrooms, covered patio, outdoor fire ring, butterfly garden, and arboretum. There is no charge for Girl Scout troops/volunteers to use Hilltop House for meetings or Girl Scouting activities, but overnight stays are not permitted.

Camp Gourmet: Dutch Oven Cooking

Saturday, November 5, 2022 Dutch oven cooking is a staple of Girl Scout camp. Create a delicious threecourse meal and discover your inner gourmet! Work in groups to prepare a soup, main dish, and dessert and then make your own box oven to take home while you wait for your meal. You'll also learn how to use technology to aid you in your Dutch Oven cooking and start a cookbook of your favorite recipes.
