Knowledgeable and active sales representatives are essential players in the SPJST's quest to grow and prosper. In order to comply with various state guidelines regulating the sale of life insurance, licensed SPJST sales representatives are required to achieve 30 hours of continuing education credits per year. To address this requirement, the SPJST Insurance Department offers an extensive and ongoing series of continuing education courses held at various locations throughout the state. In the coming weeks, SPJST's licensed sales representatives will be attending Life Insurance Suitability classes and Ethics and Needs Selling classes. Hats off to our volunteer sales representatives who have enrolled in these classes and their initiative to do what it takes to promote the growth and development of our local lodges.

In addition to having a qualified insurance sales force, achieving sustainable growth in a lodge requires vision and determination. A lodge can only be as strong as the ideas, and ideals that it aspires to achieve. That's the "value-added" difference a good fraternal program can deliver. The fraternal component e enhances membership by emphasizing the social and civic responsibilities that members share with each other and the communities in which they live. There are few limiting factors placed on local lodges and how they choose to meet their fraternal obligations. Really, what it comes down to is imagination and initiative. Thanks to the many fraternalists, statewide, who are working to bring new life and vitality to their local lodges and the SPJST. Working together, we are making a positive difference!

Other items were also given. A very interesting program was given by Mr. Bill Livingston, Chief of Police of the Weimar Police Department, on drugs and alcohol with our youth. Chief Livingston showed a video which was prepared by the Weimar Police Department on how to detect children or minors on drugs and alcohol. Chief Livingston explained and gave examples of the warning signs and of the various kinds of drugs which are available. He did state alcohol appears to be the main problem with school age children. The video dealt with the four steps: learn, look, lead and love. Those in attendance asked questions and the presentation was certainly an eye-opener. After the meeting refreshments were served. For the next monthly meeting, which will be held on Monday, April 23 at the same location, Veterans Memorial Hall, a program on the SPJST Library, Archives and Museum will be presented by Mr. Glenn Kaminsky, Chairman. Anyone interested is invited to this meeting or to any and all other meetings. Fraternally, Leo Jares —SPJST-

88, Houston reports on lodge, member activities Lodge
In writing . about Queen Natalie Zalesky, two sentences were left out: "Her grandparents in Indiana, Vaughn and Collette Matthews are also members. How is that for a 100 percent SPJST family!" I make carbon copies of all my letters. Naomi Spencer, who has been involved in Lodge 88 most of her life, had a most delightful time with her sister, Ruth Kurz of El Paso and her son in-law, Tom Moore and wife, "Toots" and brother, Timothy Kostom. This included a birthday celebration for about six grandchildren at Tom Moore's daughter, Holly and John Matthew. One of the grandchildren inherited the talent from Tom Moore who is the cartoonist of Archie Comic Publication. Though she was only 10 years old, all enjoyed her drawings. Mamie and Ed Lorenz celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. They were surprised by the Captain of the ship renewing their wedding vows and including a wedding cake, champagne and the trimmings. Helen Hegwood, our hard working president, has always the meetings well planned. She and King have been active for years in many things. What I like about King, if you are carrying a plate (most likely too much), King is right there to help a real "Samaritan," I'd say! They add much to our lodge! I was so sorry to hear about Evelyn Mikeska, hard working president of Lodge 196, having a terrible fall and
landing in the hospital. We all hope you have a speedy recovery. I was glad to hear that Calvin Orsak is home from the hospital. "Get well" greetings go to Ann Urbansovsky and Adella Kite. Rosie and Sidon Tumis came by to see me. I had not seen them for so long, I surely enjoyed their visit. They have always been enthusiastic SPJST members! President Helen Hegwood told me about the very nice Easter party. There was good attendance and the children dyed the eggs the day before. They had much fun looking for the eggs, and the Easter bunny kept everyone happy! His funeral held in Grand Prairie was attended by many people including church members, lodge members, friends and family. Awards Banquet Update I enjoyed seeing everyone at the Incentive Awards Banquet in Cyclone. The speaker was hilarious and the food was tasty. I look forward to that event every year. Congratulations to all lodges and sales people who received awards. We received the Gold Award this year — a stunning achievement for us. Congratulations to Tom Taylor, who took home numerous awards for insurance sales. Thank you to the nice folks in Cyclone who hosted the event. Fish Fry We had a fish fry on March 23, 2001. I could not attend due to work conflicts, but I heard it was fun and that the food was delicious. Actually, I had a plate reserved for me and it was very good indeed. It was one of our most attended family nights. I am so glad that we have a night that everyone can get together, share a meal and socialize. It's been going on for a long time. Let's keep it going. Melodion Band Returns Good news! We will be having another dance by the Melodion Band on October 27, 2001. This was decided at our March meeting which was held on March 12, 2001. We have also voted to redo the bathrooms at the odge. We will install metal partitions for the stalls, paint, put in tile floors and some other changes. We gave some money to charity, I should report—to the Richardson YMCA, $200 and to Arlington charities $600. That is all I have to report. We will have our April meeting on the 9th at 7 p.m. I will also report more on the upcoming dance. Have a wonderful Easter Sunday. Shelby K. Sill —SPJST-

Youth Letters Section District Five Youth Counselor gives high marks to Justin Miller Dear Members, Today, as I am writing this, it is the first day of spring. Bet this brings back a lot of memories! The joys and sorrows we all have gone through. I want to share another joy in my life—being able to be part of this young man's life as his District Five Youth `Counselor. His name is Justin Miller. I watched him grow up into the fine young man he has become since his days in middle school, high school and, most recently, his college days. He was outstanding as a youth club officer in every position he undertook. He went on to represent his district as king though he did not become state king. He was first runner up. He was disappointed somewhat, but then he thought it over and said that he would just have to work harder to achieve his goals. Justin Miller has done this. He has worked hard in FFA and has won many awards—so many I won't list them all. He recently won the FFA American Degree. This is the highest honor the FFA can bestow on a member. Justin has always expressed a desire to have and maintain his own ranch someday. This young man will accomplish this some day. His parents are very proud of him and his brother, Michael and sister, Tamara, as well. It has been a privilege for me to know him and maybe as DYC, I helped in

He always performed doing his very best at all times. For all you future FFA members — regardless of gender — go for it! Just like Justin Miller who shot for the stars. He grabbed one of the brightest. Let us all continue to encourage our young people in their endeavors and let them always know we and SPJST are 100 percent behind them. Lone Pay Life:
It Isn't Just for Children.
—SPJST-
For years, it has been a favorite plan for parents and grandparents seeking to enroll their children and grandchildren in the SPJST. However, did you know that a Lone Pay Life certificate can be issued to individuals up to age 80?
177, Academy Youth Club reports on April meeting
As you would expect, at the older issue ages, it can be expensive; however, it could be just the thing for older members who want to buy additional permanent insurance. For example, a female at age 70 can purchase additional paid-up insurance at the rate of $570 per $1,000 of coverage with a minimum purchase of $5,000 coverage.
Vice President Kristen Bartek called the April meeting of Lodge 177 Academy to order at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, 2001. Jessica Rodriguez led the Pledge of Allegiance. We had nine members and two adults present.
The Lone Pay Life certificate may also be of interest to anyone wishing to make a gift of life insurance to a college, church, charitable organization or individual. For more information on the SPJST Lone Pay Life certificate or other financial products, please contact your local lodge sales representative.
