Priority Life Plan Available Be Among the First We learned just this past week that SPJST's first Priority Life Plan life insurance certificate was issued. In fact, Lodge 29, Taylor Sales Representative Albin Machu had the distinction of delivering the first Priority Life Plan sold. What is the Priority Life Plan? It's a new plan aimed specifically at those who need just a little more life insurance. The plan offers coverage in amounts ranging from $2,000 to $15,000. The plan has been fashioned for easy sale and no medical exam or blood test is required. Issue ages are 16 to 85. While no medical examination is required, the application includes a few general health questions. A facsimile of the actual application appears on the back page. The Priority Life Plan is an ideal supplementary life insurance plan for those members who only have a small certificate in force. Because it's a whole life certificate, it's also a good idea for those members who only have term life insurance. Live long enough and the term life insurance is gone. The Priority Life Plan will help to ensure that when you die, your loved ones will be protected by providing for final expenses. And because it is a whole life certificate, the Priority Life Plan builds cash value that is available for you to use for whatever you like -no questions asked. Most applicants are expected to qualify for the plan. The SPJST Priority Life Plan is a graded plan only if you have certain pre-existing health impairments. In the event that you are graded, your death benefit during the first three years, would be the return of premiums paid plus 20 percent. If death occurs accidentally during the first three years the death benefit would be the face amount of your cer-
tificate. For death from any cause after the first three years, the death benefit will be the ultimate face amount. So what does it cost? Premiums will vary, according to your age and sex. For example, the monthly premium for a $10,000 certificate for a 25year old male is $14.30. The same amount of coverage for 50-year old female would be $25.80 month ly. For more information, including premium rates and anticipated cash values, please contact your local lodge sales repre sentative. YOU may also call the SPJST Insurance Department at 800.727 7578 or 254 773.1575 and they can put you in touch with a sales representative in your area. V V `V SPJST Anniversary Cookbook Please note that the SPJST Home Office has received what may very well be its last order of the SPJST 100th Anniversary Cookbook. The book, which premiered during the Society's centennial year in 1997 includes 1,100 recipes and has been a popular item, with more than 17,000 copies having been sold. The books are $11. This price includes postage. Send your orders to: SPJST Home Office Attention: Cookbooks P.O. Box 100 Temple, Texas 76503

Lodge 15, Buckholts members display strong work ethic, fraternal commitment The June meeting was most productive thanks to our President Douglas Williams, and that, for once, all officers were present. The first subject on the agenda was the need to replace rotten boards on the back wall of the hall to which purpose, Joe Zajicek pledged $100. When it was called to his attention, he made a new pledge increasing it to $200.
In the Spirit of Brotherhood Our lodge is so blessed with members who are so generous not just Joe, but his wife, Lillie, who always brings food to every meeting. Then there is Virginia Williams who cooks and always brings a pot full of food while Doug donates his monthly salary of $5 as a door prize. Then there is Dorothy and Frank Tomascik who bring several sacks of their homegrown produce for door prizes. Lest we forget, there is Derrick Ruzicka who is generous with his time doing small repairs especially in emergencies. there is also the instance where Mary Frances Chudej sold the lodge an air conditioning unit of one season's use for a fraction of its original value. It replaced a croaker, a malfunctioning unit that long needed to go, but the lodge couldn't bear the expense. You see, the spirit of brotherhood at Lodge 15 is alive and well.
A Tribute to Johnnie Balusek Unbeknownst to us all, not just lodge members, but this area as well is the fact that we have midst a real live hero, Johnnie Balusek, of World War II vintage. Once we became aware that Johnnie was holding his light under a bushel, our President Doug Williams set the wheels in motion 'to honor Johnnie in the parade at this year's Cotton Fest. Johnnie and his wife, Clara, rode in style in a brand new Cadillac provided by Garlyn Shelton of Temple and chauffeured by their employee, Melissa Fritz. When the procession was stopped, the local banker, Richard Crowe, read a summary of Johnnie's various engagements during World War II. On behalf of us all, he expressed profound gratitude for Johnnie's services. If nothing else, it served to remind us how much we owe men like him who lived in constant peril while we were then and now enjoying the comfort of home and our way of life. Yet, Johnnie did it all with a humble heart and shrugs it all off that he was just doing his duty. Happily Everafter The month of June is known for its brides is ending, and it was my privilege to be a guest at a wedding where the radiant bride and the beaming groom sailed down the aisle to live happily ever after. Much as I hate to rain on another parade, I thought of what Sir Frances Bacon said: "Wives are young mens' mistresses, companions in middle age and old mens'

We had ladies registering the bidders, men recording the bids, and ladies who checked the bidders out at the end of the day. The youth club ran the food and drink booth. Denisse reported that their club raised almost $400 from the booth. We had several businesses that donated items as well. Denisse reported the coming activities of the youth club. We want to remind our members and friends that Bonnie Wolf is now organizing and accepting the bookings. If you want to rent the hall, you will need to contact her. She is in the phone book. District Three Youth Counselor readies campers and chaperones Dear District Three Campers and Chaperones, Final preparations of Camp Val Verde 2003 will be a smashing hit of the 50s! Birthday party events are well under way for the camp theme of this year's camp It is the 50th anniversary of the youth clubs, and we have been planning all kinds of things to do at camp. District Three Camp at Val Verde will be held Friday, July 18 through Monday July 21. Registration on Friday the 18th, will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by your first scheduled activity at 1:30 p.m. The next two days will be honoring the anniversary of the youth club with various games and activities. On Monday, we will conclude our celebration after lunch to give you enough time to pack your stuff and clean your cabins. This is one big party you don't want to miss! So start packing your 50's costumes and your clever skit ideas along with: • One white tee-shirt for the 50th birthday party to be used during craft time. • Sheets/pillow/light blanket or sleeping bag. • Clothes for four days (shorts/teeshirts/jeans). Note: little ones, it might be best to make sure your names are in them. • Tennis shoes or non-open-toe shoes. • Jeans or long pants for horseback riding. No shorts. • Two sets of swim suits—one for swimming pool and one for canoeing . . . maybe! • Beach towel for swimming, canoeing, and showering. • Sunscreen. • Aloe vera lotion. • Cap/hat. • Flashlight. • Personal items. • Toothbrush, paste, soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc. • Towels/wash cloths. • Skit ideas (for the 50's). • Lots of fun. • The desire to make new friends. • Lots of enthusiasm. Optional Items to Bring: • Camera—nothing expensive; something like those disposables • Bug spray, but no insecticide for the cabin • Fans—may need extension cords • Tapes/cds LITs, don't forget costumes or supplies for the hayride. Remember things can get picked up by a buddy on an accident. So please don't bring anything expensive like jewelry, cologne, expensive types of shoes or clothing, or any personal items that cost a lot to be replaced by your parents. The district is not responsible for any lost or damaged articles. So please do not bring any of these items. Your parents work too hard to purchase you another one.
12/VESTNIK—Wednesday, July 9, 2003
Things Not to Bring: • No alcohol. • No tobacco products. • No fireworks. • No shaving cream. • No insecticide for the cabin. • No sandals. • No foods/drinks/candy—these cause ants and other rodents in your cabin. Besides, the district will have plenty of sodas, candy, chips, and snacks, etc. Directions to Camp Val Verde The best way to get to Val Verde is IH 35 south to Highway 84 in Waco headed towards McGregor. You go about five miles to Val Verde Road. There will be a green sign on the highway. Follow the paved road. The signs will lead you into the campgrounds. We will have many late night activities planned to make you want your parents to come pick you up on Monday, July 21, 2003—of course, after you clean up your cabin and eat lunch at noon. So parents don't be late! I'm sure the kids will talk to you all the way home about camp being the best camp ever and all the activities they did for the birthday party. If you need me for any reason before camp, please call me at any time and leave a message (214) 826-3557. Fraternally yours, Bessie Petr District Three Youth Counselor —SPJST-
25, Ennis Youth Club membe enjoys first YAD Lodge
Dear Readers, This was my first year to be in Youth Achievement Day (YAD). I had a lot of fun, and I made a lot of friends from other halls. I entered a lot of stuff. I made a turtle out of plant pots; drew a picture of a race car; made a race car out of wood; and made a model of the planets and got second place. I made some cookies that beat my sisters with third place. I had a lot of fun and hope to see all my new friends at State YAD. Fraternally, Dustin Motley, 6 7/9/03 —SPJST-

Dear Readers, This year at Youth Achievement Day (YAD) was a lot of fun. I got a lot of money. I won on points and I made a girl out of clay pots and got first place. Now I get to go to State YAD for the first time ever. I also made some cookies, a clay Texas and I drew a picture of a princess. I didn't get to sing my song this year but that's okay because I can just do it next year. I hope to see everybody at State YAD. Fraternally, Tori Motley, 7 1/2 7/9/03 —SPJST-
48, Beyersville Youth Club planning trip to Schlitterbahn Lodge
Dear Youth, I would like to remind you of some activities that we have pending. Youth Achievement Day is rapidly approaching. Good luck to all of those who participate. By the time this is in the Vestnik, you will have experienced your first trip to camp. I hope that you had fun and made some new friends. During our June meeting we decided to have the treasury help pay for the tickets into Schlitterbahn. We will discuss this trip at the July meeting. We had a very successful fund raiser in May. We ended up with almost $400 from our efforts. We also had two very generous donations from Bobby and Ruth Wuensche and from Mrs. Stolle. We also received start up money from the Supreme Lodge. We would like to thank all of these people for supporting us. Be sure and keep an eye out in the Vestnik for letters from other members, from the District Two Youth Counselor and the State Youth Director on all activities. We will see you at the next meeting. Fraternally, Miss Denisse, Youth Leader —SPJST-

I am so excited, we will also be dancing the beseda. We are also planning a trip to Hurricane Harbor and our July monthly meeting, all to be announced later. I am having a busy summer because we are also going to Camp Val Verde July 18 through 21. The next thing you know, school will be starting. Well until then, I am packing a lot into the rest of my summer vacation. Fraternally, Elisabeth Cowan, 7 7/9/03 —SPJST-
