A Special Kinship I have to give my dad a lot of credit.- Through his actions and through his words, he taught my brothers and me the importance of helping each other in time of need. Too, I remember him saying that's one thing you didn't keep track of in a family how often you help one another. That in a family, it's all for one and one for all. As members of the SPJST, we too share a common bond - a kinship borne and nurtured over generations: A commitment to help each other in time of need and an invitation to share in the good times with our fraternal brothers and sisters. Membership in the SPJST begins with the purchase of an insurance certificate. It matures with active participation in the local lodge. In that regard, the lodge can be likened to an extended family. That's the ideal and it's what our devoted adult lodge leaders and youth club leaders strive to achieve. Just as the attitudes and behaviors taught at home by parents become those things passed to their children, so it goes in the lodge. The lodge . tends to reflect the personality of its leaders. Even in hours of discouragement, good leaders can pick up the pieces, regroup the members and move forward with confidence and resolve. And, in times of triumph, they give credit where credit is due;

moreover, they rejoice in celebrating the good fortune of their fellow members. Fraternalism is about treating each other with dignity, respect and fairness. When we do that, our opportunities for both personal and organizational growth expand greatly. All that sounds so serious, doesn't it? Well, it is. But you know what? Fraternalism -

likefamyhas a fun side, too! Take a look at any typical issue of the Vestnik and you can see that. Better yet, get involved in your local lodge and experience it for yourself! In the event it's not what you expected, guess what? You're a member! You can make things better!

"As members of the SPJST, we share a common bond a kinship borne and nurtured over generations."

Thanks to You, It's Working! The SPJST is an organization that is known as much for life insurance and home loans as it is for summer camps and Saturday night dances. That's no small accomplishment! We've withstood the test of time because the SPJST and fraternalism were right for the times. It still is today. As a fraternal benefit society, one of the SPJST's greatest strengths is its capacity to bring families and friends together. In essence, it is our service to each other and to our communities that validates the Society's existence as a fraternal benefit society. -SPJST-

Lodge 204, Stephenville meets July 20 Just a few words to let the members of Lodge 204, Stephenville know that the regular meeting of the members will be the third Sunday of July—July 20—at 3 p.m. at the Koffee Kup Restaurant. Would like to see a lot of members there to map out the future of the lodge, socialize and have a good time. Something on a different note: I have just been notified that Mars is

having a dust storm. All of you who like to watch the stars need to get out about 2 a.m. or after and see this before August or it may be too late to see the surface markings clearly. A teacher asked a student what is the zodiac? The student's answer: It's the zoo in the sky where lions, goats, and other animals go when they are dead. Keep Smiling! He is Out There A little boy was afraid of the dark. One night his mother told him to go out to the back porch and bring her the broom. The little boy turned to his mother and said, "Mama, I don't want to go out there. It's dark." The mother smiled reassuringly at her son. "You don't have to be afraid of the dark," she explained. "Jesus is out there. He'll look after you and protect you." The little boy looked at his mother real hard and asked, "Are you sure he's out there?" "Yes, I'm sure. He is everywhere, and he is always ready to help you when you need him," she said. The little boy thought about that for a minute and then went to the back door and cracked it a little. Peering out into the darkness, he called, "Jesus, If you're out there, would you please hand me the broom?" — Author Unknown Fraternally, Kimberly Gaas 7/16/03
