We are most patriotic!

The red, white, and blue colors

were everywhere on July 4! Float 1 headed to Arlington for the big parade there. The float was hosted by Lodge 183, Arlington. Thanks to float drivers John and Lisa Hoelscher for delivering, setting up, and returning the float. SPJST was also represented in a big way in the Belton parade. The crowd was estimated at 30,000 people plus a live television audience of thousands more. It was a great day! But, it was also bittersweet as State King Jerry, Queen Emily, Duke Michael, and Duchess Kyleigh participated in their last official public appearance. I will certainly miss them and their kind attitudes. District Two Queen Julia and Runner-up King Collin rode the float along with several members. The parade committee encouraged all entries to strive for greater displays of patriotism. So we asked for volunteers, and, thankfully, several amazing people showed up to carry a giant 12-foot by 18-foot United States flag. What a display of patriotism! Special thanks to Joan and Sam Vanicek of Lodge 24, Cyclone; Hunter Bartek, Donica Zabcik, and Becky Zavodny, all of Lodge 47, Seaton; Don and Sheri Strickland of Lodge 169, Brenham; David Nauert of Lodge 200, Bruceville-Eddy; and Brandt and Trish Konkler of Lodge 246, Morgan’s Point for braving the Texas heat and walking the two-plus mile parade route with the flag. Our entries were a hit as so many people cheered, waved, hollered, stood, and saluted as we passed by. We were also honored with the “Most Patriotic Entry” award.

The Triple-Filter Test In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, “Do you know what I just heard about your friend?” “Hold on a minute,” Socrates replied. “Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be good idea to take a moment and filter what you’re going to say. That’s why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?” “Well, no,” the man said, “actually I just heard about it and . . . ” “All right,” said Socrates. “So you don’t really know if it’s true or not. Now, let’s try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?” “Umm, no, on the contrary . . . ” “So,” Socrates continued, “you want to tell me something bad about my friend, but you’re not certain it’s true. You may still pass the test though, because there’s one filter left—the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?” “No, not really.” “Well,” concluded Socrates, “if what you want to tell me is neither true, nor good, nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?” —Author Unknown Best Wishes, Janice We send best wishes to Janice Victorick, wife of District One Director/Supreme Lodge Chairman Donnie Victorick who underwent knee surgery in June. Janice is doing great, and we wish her the best in her recovery. —SPJST—

Lodge 40, El CampoHillje member shares cemetery history

Dear Věstník, This is a letter I wrote to the Moulton Eagle in Moulton, Texas, hoping someone in Moulton may know about the SPJST Cemetery, south of Moulton. Also, I got this reply back and hope everyone will read this important letter:

Letter to the Editor Many years ago when we were children, we lived near Moulton, at the corner of the highway going to Gonzales. No one here in SPJST seems to know what happened to this cemetery. It had high headstones and a building in the middle. Now, it’s all pasture and no sign that a cemetery was ever there. Maybe someone in Moulton may know what happened to this SPJST Cemetery. If no one knows, we will let it rest in peace. Sincerely Mrs. Alice Laitkep 533 Co Rd 408 El Campo Texas 77473 Letter to the Editor This is in response to a letter to Moulton Eagle’s editor recently about the SPJST building and cemetery located just off FM 532, south of Moulton toward Gonzales. This is what I know and what I best remember. My grandfather August Ellinghausen donated one acre of land to the lodge in the early 1900s with the understanding that if the lodge is ever dissolved, the land would go back to the original owner or current owner of the adjacent land as is the case today. I recall at least 15 gravesites and headstones on the west side of the

building through the 1950s. Most of the dates on the headstones showed deceased in the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. These included small children and an infant. Members would meet on a Sunday afternoon, never a large gathering, usually 10 or 12 vehicles parked on the east side of the building which had no utilities servicing it. In 1961, Hurricane Carla severely damaged the building beyond use, and it was removed from the site. Eventually, most of the graves were relocated with the exception of two or three. No descendants could be located for the remaining graves so they stayed in place. You can still see the headstones from FM 532 if you know where to look. I do not know if the organization was dissolved after that or if they relocated to another site. Someone is still maintaining a small grassy area around these headstones I suppose to prevent damage from tractors and mowers when the surrounding area is mowed. I hope this information serves to fill your curiosity and yes, let those who remain there “rest in peace.” Sincerely, Dennis Ellinghausen 306 Longhorn Drive PO Box 112 Moulton, Texas 77975 Editor’s Note: If anyone has additional information for Mrs. Laitkep, please write to her in El Campo. —SPJST—

I plan on using the money to pay for my college courses, books, and tuition. With our economy in such a struggle, I thank you for helping students like me achieve a higher education without the great amount of financial burden. Thank you, Conner Vecera —SPJST—

Calling All Golfers!

SPJST, RVOS and Slovaceks hosting West Gala this Saturday, July 20 On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, a massive fertilizer explosion rocked the Central Texas city of West. Seven weeks have passed and the media fanfare has subsided. Even so, dozens of homes near the plant remain vacant or have boarded-up windows as families work to repair the damage caused by the explosion that sprayed debris as far as two-and-a-half miles away from the plant. The blast destroyed 150 homes and buildings, injured 200 people and killed 15, including 12 first responders who were working to put out the fire. The West Benevolence Fund was established by SPJST on the day after the explosion to address the short and long-term needs that were certain to emerge. “Initial response — primarily, from SPJST members and lodges — has been gratifying,” says SPJST President Brian Vanicek of Temple. “To date, more than $42,000 has been received.” A committee consisting of the presidents of four West-area SPJST lodges has been working to identify projects needing attention and submitting requests to the SPJST Home Office for the disbursement of funds contributed to the West Benevolence Fund. The first check issued was in the amount of $3,937 and was presented to West Sokol to enable the gymnastics club to purchase needed equipment that was lost when their building was destroyed.

West Gala Saturday, July 20 SPJST is partnering with RVOS Insurance and Slovacek’s Sausage to host the West Gala on Saturday, July 20 at Seaton Star Hall, courtesy of SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton. Proceeds will benefit West Benevolence Fund. Tickets for the event are $50 per person and will cover an enjoyable evening of dining and entertainment. Your $50 ticket also entitles to you to one chance in the drawing. Grand prize will be a trip for two — transportation and lodging —

to the Czech Republic furnished by V2 Incentives. Other prizes include five $250 Visa gift cards courtesy of RVOS Insurance (2), Gulf Coast Claims Service (2) and Purifoy and Company Insurance (1). Slovacek’s Sausage will provide a delicious barbecue dinner for attendees. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Ennis Polka Boys and Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six. Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be Alfred Vrazel, host of the longrunning Vrazels’ Polka Show.

Underwriting Support Invited “This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to has been wanting to help get involved,” says Vanicek. Business support —in the amount of $250 or more — will designate businesses as an event underwriter in the printed program as well as provide the business with promotional consideration leading up to the event. All prior donors will also be listed in the gala program. “Most importantly, your generous support will help to ensure that the West Benevolence Fund makes a significant impact for the residents and community of West,” says Vanicek

Auction and Prizes The SPJST Home Office in Temple is also collecting merchandise for the live auction, silent auction and bucket drawings that will be held on the night of the West Gala. Prize donors will be listed on the event program and the merchandise you give will be on display through the event. Gift baskets are invited; however, any suitable gift item or service will be greatly appreciated. Gift baskets and other items are being collected at the SPJST Home Office at 520 North Main Street in Temple. Upon notification, SPJST make arrangements for pick up. Lodge 15 Buckholts reports on June meeting

The lodge meeting was called to order at 5 p.m. by President Doug Williams. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by one of our guests Ruth Ann Wuensche, followed by a moment of silence in memory of our departed members and remembering our nation in the celebration of the Fourth of July. How thankful we are to reside in this

nation. President Doug Williams greeted everyone and thanked all for coming. All officers were present. The minutes and treasurer’s report were approved as read. It was so nice to have Honorary District Two Director Bobby Wuensche and his wife Ruth Ann for the meeting. We just enjoyed having them so much. Bobby brought us a nice wall clock which we really needed. He said he had it on hand for quite some time, but hadn’t gotten it to us. He and Ruth Ann brought us a box of nice fresh garden vegetables they had grown which we all appreciated so much. President Willimas asked Bobby to bring us up-to-date on what the latest is with him. He said he had purchased some land near Gause which has really kept him busy making improvements, building tanks, barns, fences, etc. He said everything went well except his watermelon crop. They usually grow real well in the sandy soil, but he did something wrong - either planted them too late or damage from the weather. He doesn’t know what happened. He said the barbecue barn that is being built at his home Lodge

Slovacek’s Funds SPJST Scholarship

Slovacek’s Controller Laura Doskocil presents a $1,000 check benefitting the SPJST Scholarship Program to Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek. “This marks the second consecutive year that Slovacek’s has funded an SPJST Sponsorship Scholarship,” President Vanicek says, adding, “Sponsorship Scholarships represent a great funding opportunity for the SPJST Schoarship Program.” Sponsorship scholarships differ from SPJST endowed scholarships in that donors may offer scholarships in the name of a business or as a tribute to a family or friend on a one-time basis for $1,000. The Slovacek’s Sausage Scholarship was presented to Megan Ann Mitchon of Lodge 67, Schulenburg during a presentation by Lodge 67 President Ernest Kutac at Moulton High School on May 24. SPJST expresses its thanks to Slovacek’s Sausage for its kind and generous support. In addition to supporting the SPJST Scholarship Fund, Slovacek’s contributes to events related to Snook ISD as well as many non-profit organizations throughout Burleson and Brazos counties. In addition, Slovacek’s is the official sausage of Texas A&M Athletics. Slovacek’s is also one of the sponsors of the West Gala this Saturday, July 20 at Seaton Star Hall.

48, Beyersville is going along fine. In old business, we still haven’t located antique doors for the front entrance to the hall. We are still trying to figure out what to do about the roof. Any route we go is very expensive. On the Restoration Project, we haven’t given up, but there are so many fundraisers going on right now, and with the economy not too good, we are putting it on hold for the time being. We have not gotten anyone lined up to do the plumbing for the refrigerators yet. This extremely hot weather has about got everything on hold. In new business, President Williams thanked Lamerle Zajicek and Regina Peevey for the beautiful decorative paintings they are doing around the entrance of the lodge building. We want to thank Bobby and Ruth Ann Wuensche for the $100 donation to the lodge in memory of Charlsie Svetlik. One of our members, Frank Tomascik, celebrated his 92nd birthday this week. We sang “Happy Birthday” to him. We have two members in their 90s who attend the meeting regularly—Frank Tomascik and Hilda Burtis who is 97. President Williams asked Sandie Fischer to report on her recent cruise and her vacation at Port O’Connor. She enjoyed it all except it made her depressed to see the poor living conditions on her tour in Jamaica. Vice President A.W. Zajicek brought us up-to-date on current SPJST happenings: the West fundraiser on July 19 and 20 also the getaway in Corpus Christi on August 9 to 11. The meeting was adjourned. A delicious meal was served with our usual enjoyable visiting. Next Meeting—August 12 The next meeting will be on August 12 at 5 p.m. I hope you can be there. Lodge 15 Buckholts member shares memories

I fell behind so I have a lot of catching up to do. Now, everywhere I go, I see “No Smoking” signs. People should appreciate them for they are lifesavers. They always remind me that had my late husband not been a cigarette smoker, he would not have died 30 years ago on December 8, last, at age 78. He also was the only one of eight grown siblings that smoked, and the only one of them who didn’t live into the 90s. When I was young, it was considered immoral for women to smoke. That was not why I didn’t smoke - not because I didn’t believe it was anymore immoral for women to smoke than it was for men. I already knew it was bad for one’s health to smoke, and I already had other bad health habits so why cultivate more? My husband, the cigarette smoker, died at 78 while I, the non-smoker, am alive at 97. That’s a miracle because I am also diabetic. In our last Lodge 15 meeting, Frank Tomascik announced that by our July meeting, he would be 92 years old. Two years ago, he celebrated his 90th birthday with a dinner and dance party on July 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. in our lodge hall. Now, I have in my lifetime attended a lot of parties, but this is the only one that was perfect. I got there at 3:15 p.m., and the hall was already full. That kind of affair takes time and money. This was a whole family venture, and they started working on it six months beforehand. I mean, they didn’t miss a trick—even remembered to have someone escort me in the food line, making me feel so special. Just to remember all the relatives that came from Corpus Christi, Galveston, Houston, and even from Oklahoma was miracle. What I thought was so remarkable was that everybody was so dressed up. In today’s world, you seldom see dressed up people. It was a complement to the whole affair that no one came like they were going to the cow pen. Chalk it up to good luck that we weren’t caught up in some kind of fad. Like it was not that long ago that it was considered sooo sexy for women to wear see-through blouses. Now, for the life of me, I can’t see what’s so sexy about something that looks like two fried eggs. Others must’ve agreed with me for the fad didn’t last. Belatedly, I congratulate Frank on

Lodge 24, Cyclone to host August 4 polka dance

SPJST Lodge 24, Cyclone met on Monday, July 8, 2013, at the lodge home, Flag Hall. The meeting was called to order at 7:14 p.m. by President Daniel Wilde. We stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and a silent prayer for the sick and deceased. Margaret Mikeska read the minutes of the last meeting that were approved as read. Linda Wilde gave the treasurer’s report which was accepted. Bar report was by Brenda Maddux as Mark was at home calling Europe from the stomach flu. Shirley Hoelscher gave the FAC report with the Corpus Christi trip as one of the items. The trip is August 8 and 9. The West Gala fundraiser at Seaton Star Hall is on July 20. Pre-gala is on Friday night, July 19. The lodge purchased 16 tickets, as it was thought that the tickets were $100. Everyone at the meeting got a ticket for each

couple, and four were sold to other couples. Brenda Maddux gave the hall report. They have many bookings in the near future. December is really busy. Flag Hall will not at this time have a New Year’s Eve dance. The youth report was by Brenda Maddux. They had a meeting on Wednesday, July 3 with 11 youth and seven adults in attendance. August 4 is a polka dance at Flag Hall from 2 to 6 p.m. We may need kitchen help. On the sick list is Mark Maddux. Contact has been made for inspection of our floor tiles. The hall was built in three sections, and each will have to be evaluated. This should happen this week or so. The lodge voted to donate $100 to the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive in memory of Willie Mae Vanicek. New member is Aniston Ledford, granddaughter of Danny Bruggman. Birthday for July is Barbara Macek. For the lodge, Bobby Hoelscher Reporter —SPJST—

SPJST Lodge 35 Elk held its meeting on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. President Randy Pavelka called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by members and guests. No one was on the sick list. Secretary Carla Pavelka read the minutes of the May meeting. No additions were made. Corrections were made and approved. Treasurer Barbara Pavelka read her report. She reported on our electric bill. Maybe one day soon, it will all get straightened out. Floor chairman Gene Edward Pavelka gave his report. Correspondence was read from Stefannie Denton thanking the lodge for her SPJST Scholarship. A flyer was passed around for members and guests to look at pertaining to the benefit being sponsored by SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton at Star Hall on July 20. It is the West Gala benefiting the West Benevolence Fund. If you want to go and support this cause, it would be helping a great many people. Bar chairman Randy Pavelka gave a report of a good month. We hope everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July. Those celebrating wedding anniversaries are our very active lodge members Gene and Barbara Pavelka 46 years on June 24 and also Danny and Kristi Kubitza - 15 years on June 26. We would like to wish these two couples many more wonderful years together. Having a birthday on June 19 was J.R. Vicha. Happy birthday! The meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, July 10. We hope to see some more of our members. Fraternally yours, Janie Brewer, Reporter —SPJST—

Lodge 54, West to meet August 2 at St. Joseph Hall

The meeting of SPJST Lodge 54, West was held at Sokol West Gym and called to order at 7 p.m. by President Freddie Kaluza. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mr. Kaluza followed by a moment of silence in memory of all our departed members, Marvin Cvikel, Yvonne Nors, and George Mikeska who had passed away since our last meeting. All of our officers and sales agents were present except Fraternal Activities Coordinator Jean Maler and sales agents Carol Reed and Jean Martin. We had 13 members and guests present. President Kaluza welcomed all who were in attendance for the meeting. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Janice Kaluza and were approved by all present. FAC Jean Maler was absent so no report was given. We discussed some upcoming events including Join Hands Day which would be held May 4. Janice Kaluza was going to check with Theresa Plsek to see if the KJZT youth would join with SPJST members on a community project for this year. The treasurer’s report was presented by Mary Lou Mynar. Jan Vaculik didn’t have anything to report at the meeting. In new business, we welcomed one new member to Lodge 54—Sylvia Ann Marek. Maxine Sefcik made a motion to except Sylvia as a new member, and Mary Lou Mynar seconded the motion with all members in favor of this. We discussed the use of the funds from the youth club since the group is no longer active. Lill Matus made a motion to get all of the youth together and have a final pizza party for all who were active in the group. Wilburn Willis wanted to recognize Jake Koen who donated a kidney for our member Tracy Neimeyer who had a kidney transplant recently. We discussed putting the pictures of all past presidents and award plaques back up in the hall. Mary Lou Mynar and Lill Matus volunteered to scan and frame all pictures for the hall. Freddie Kaluza talked to Laura Berger, and Sokol welcomed the pictures to be placed back into the hall for historical purposes. Janice Kaluza made a motion to donate at least $300 a year back to organizations in our community, and we discussed doing this at the end of each year. Maxine Sefcik seconded the mo-

tion with all in favor. Terry Sefcik made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Christine Bishop. Motion carried. Door prizes were given away, and all enjoyed food and fellowship. Door prize winners were Litka Vaculik and Jan Vaculik, and each won $10.

Next Meeting—August 2 The next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 2 at St. Joseph Hall in West to replace the June 7 meeting that was canceled because of the West explosion. There are many changes in our community which have affected and disrupted all meetings for our organizations, and many prayers are needed to help us rebuild what our ancestors worked so hard to accomplish. It will seem strange not to have a meeting at Lone Star Hall. We are

deeply devastated for this big loss for Sokol West Gymnastics.

Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. —1 John 4:16 Fraternally, Janice Kaluza, Reporter —SPJST—

I have to thank our four sons Edward, Allen, Aaron, and Rudy, Jr. for a great Mother’s Day gift. We left Houston - Bush Airport on May 16, 2013, at 4 p.m., flew on German airline Lufthansa, and landed May 17 at 6 a.m. in Frankfurt, Germany. We were in the air for 10 hours, but it didn’t seem that long. Also, Europe is seven hours ahead of our time. Our tour guides and tour bus was waiting for us. It was raining with wind, and it was cold. We all went to Rheinstein near the Rhine River. We got on a big riverboat and went up and down the river and had dinner on the river boat. The food was good everywhere - all homemade food. We had our afternoon check-in at the hotel next to Rhine River then had supper in the hotel dining room. It was so much to see that I can’t tell about all of it. Next day, we drove all over Germany then went to Nuremberg, Germany. We spent two nights in Nuremberg. We went to a German mass about two blocks from our hotel. It’s an old beautiful church. Then, we loaded our luggage and drove through a town named Sinsheim and saw a car show. There were so many Mustangs from the world over. We ate dinner, and the next morning after breakfast, we loaded our luggage and headed for Czech Republic. We stopped at a crystal shop and saw how the crystal is made. Then, we went to our hotel in Karlovy Vary, Czech

some of the many buildings at Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.

Republic, where we stayed one night then drove all over Czech Republic to the town of Frenstat. We got to this town at 5:30 p.m. and stayed two nights in a Frenstat hotel. The next morning, we left for Poland, and it took us three hours to get to our hotel there. We spent two days in Poland and went to see the beautiful church honoring our Pope Paul II. We drove all around Poland and saw the big salt mines that are museums now. The next day, we went to see this “Hell on Earth” concentration camp in Auschwitz. It made me sick to see what those poor souls went through. I knew some people who were at Auschwitz, and they told us it was horrible. They always told us to guard our freedom as you don’t know what it means until you lose it. Next day, we went back to Czech Republic and went to a Czech mass at Hostyn, the big church on top of a mountain. After church, we went to Praha, Czech Republic, to our hotel for two days. We then took a plane from Praha back to Frankfurt for our 10-hour flight back to Houston. We landed in Houston at 2 p.m., and it was on a doubledecker Lufthansa Airline. It’s big, and it was full. I had a wonderful trip to Europe, but it sure was good to be home. Everywhere is good, but home is always best. Alice Laitkep —SPJST—

Lodge 191, Lufkin plans 30th anniversary dance

Johnny Tobias and his band did an excellent job of playing music for our June 21 dance. We had a good crowd, and with our new fan blowing on the dance floor, everyone stayed cool. We now have two big fans, plus air conditioning. If you missed this dance, you missed having a good time! Thanks again for all the food furnished by our very good cooks and Sam’s and Brookshire Brothers. Nothing wrong with Sam’s and Brookshire Brothers food; they are excellent cooks! Our 50-50 drawing was won by our very own Doyle Oliver; he turned around and donated it back to the lodge. Thanks, Doyle! We appreciate you and Sarah so very much. Thanks to Kathy Riley and Diane McDowell for the beautiful decorations. They worked long hours getting everything put together; then getting all the tables decorated. Thanks also goes out to AC and Kathy Riley and Marvin and Diane McDowell and their granddaughter Beka for hosting this dance. All the hard work they did is very much appreciated. All the decorations, hosting the dances, getting things ready beforehand, and the cleanup afterwards all requires a lot of work. You have to come early and stay late, but someone has to do it. If everyone pitched in to help, no one would have to do it more than one time a year. There is a signup board located at the sign-in booth for you to volunteer. We still need hosts for most of the rest of the year. This is an email from Dr. Bill Weber: “I want to personally thank all of the SPJST members who attended Bill Weber’s birthday party on May 2, 2013, at Banita Creek Hall. We had a great time. We gave away more than 35 cakes at the Cajun cakewalk event. The rehab students raised more that $1,389 to purchase a set of rehabilitation training program textbooks to be placed on Steen Library reserve for all to use. As you know, college tuition and textbooks have dramatically increased. As we did, many students are working a couple of jobs trying to pay for school. Thank you for your generosity. signed, Dr. Bill Weber.” Thank you, Dr. Weber, for caring enough for these students to help them raise money for this project. I am sure everyone involved is very thankful for

In Memory of Arthur Wiederhold

Art Wiederhold, 81, went home to the Lord peacefully in his sleep on March 11, 2013. He was retired after 43 years of service from Charter Oil, where he worked as supervisor in the instrument shop. Art was survived by his loving wife of 62 years Hilda; Art Wiederhold brothers Louis, Doyle (Mildred), and George (Jan); children Kenneth and spouse Dawn, Karen and spouse Steve, and David and spouse Debra; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many family and friends. He was so much loved and respected by all who knew him and truly will be missed. He loved all who knew him and always had a smile. In his early years, he loved playing golf and camping, and he still loved gardening and bowling with wife Hilda. He was active in his church and community. hhh

This is about our father Arthur Wiederhold and what he meant to us. He and our mom were longtime members of SPJST Lodge 172, Pasadena. Dad did a lot of extra work there— from working the door to scrubbing and waxing the floors. We just had Father’s Day, and we want everybody to know how important fathers are . . . especially to people who still have them. Our father was so much loved and respected. He had such strong work ethics. He worked at Charter Oil for 43 years. At 81, he still mowed his yard and had a garden. His yard, flowers, and garden were amazing this year. You should have seen the bluebonnets. He did everything with and for my mother Hilda. They not only had quantity of years together, 62, but also quality. They made friends everywhere they went. He used to golf; they used to camp; and they still bowled before he passed away. His weak but enlarged (big) heart took him away from us. He passed away in his sleep like everybody would like to go. Love, His family of three children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren —SPJST—

Dear Vestnik Readers, District Two Beseda Dancers performed at the S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor on July 2, 2013. The room was full of happy residents, waiting to see these children dance. We had one circle of dancers for this performance, and they all did an excellent job. One resident even asked if they could do it one more time! Patsy assured them we would come back and dance again! The facility is beautiful and so were the people. We thank the residents for welcom-

wishes to you all. LIT camp was held June 14 to 16 at Cooper Farm. We had several youth attend. My son went for the first time. He had a blast and learned a lot about being a leader. District Two swimming party was held June 21 at Walker Pool from 7 to 9 p.m. Youth Achievement Day entry

Hello! I am just writing because I am having a wonderful summer so far. I went to San Antonio for our JCDA Convention on June 7 to 10. We all gathered at the Hilton to do a talent, a scrapbook, and a banner. We lost the group talent and scrapbook, but we did win first place on our banner. Everyone also prayed the rosary. That’s me with my cousin Aiyana and sister Kierra in the picture. After mass on Sunday, we left to Sea World with my grandma Inez.

CHS Galveston Chapter announces July 27 event

All Texas residents of Czech descent are invited to a special event honoring three visiting deacons from the seminary in Olomouc, Czech Republic, with a special guest appearance by popular accordion entertainer Chris Rybak. This event including a covered dish luncheon will be held Saturday, July 27, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Queen of Peace Catholic Church Life Center, located at 626 Laurel Street in La Marque, Texas. For the past 15 years, Reverend Stephen Nesrsta, the former pastor of St. John’s Parish in Fayetteville, Texas, has sponsored a program to bring three future priests to Texas to encounter the church in the United States; experience life in ordinary Catholic parishes; and broaden their knowledge of English. After the deacons’ month in Texas, they will return to the Czech Republic to work in youth ministries and other church initiatives before becoming ordained priests in 2014. Milá Bibbie, dnes jsem si vybral pro vyprávění osobnost světoznámého českého hudebního skladatele Antonína Dvořáka (dále AD). Narodil se r. 1841 v Nelahozevsi u Prahy. Jeho otec byl řezník. Mi-

pozván do Londýna, aby dirigoval svou kantátu Stabat Mater. Jeanette Thurberová, zakladatelka americké národní konzervatoře v New Yorku, nabídla v r. 1892 Dvořákovi místo ředitele národní konzervatoře.

Dvořák nabídku přijal a do New Yorku do USA odjel s celou svou rodinou.
