Adorning Lodge 15, Buckholts

District Two Director Jesse Pospisil recognizes artists who painted decorative Czech flowers around the entrance to Lodge 15, Buckholts. The ladies are Carla Mitchell, Lamerle Zajicek, Alvielene Hartleb, and Regina Peevey. They were presented Every Day Hero pins at the lodge’s meeting on November 11.

Day of Service at SPJST ENC

SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC) at Cooper Farm expresses its thanks to Harvest Bible Church of Cypress Texas. A group of volunteers organized two service projects at Cooper Farm on Saturday, November 23, 2013, to help beautify the facility. Harvest Bible Church is one of the groups that visits Cooper Farm during the summer. “The group wanted to do something to help us out,” Education and Nature Center Executive Director John Hoelscher said. “They brought right at 101 people to help with two projects we had.” One of the projects was resealing all of the picnic tables and benches, and the other project was helping clear out dead trees along the edge of the ropes course in order to

create better tent camping sites for future use by groups. The rainy day’s temperature did not get over 42 degrees, but that did not seem to deter the group at all. “They actually seemed to like working in the cold and wet weather!” Executive Director Hoelscher added. “This group is definitely a great example of the working relationships that SPJST Education and Nature Center is building,” Hoelscher explained. “This day of service was not something that SPJST ENC had asked for, but instead something that Harvest Bible Church wanted to do to help out and make a positive difference. We thank them so much for it.” —SPJST—

A colorful strip of decorative Czech flowers based on an image found in the Věstník was suggested by Regina Peevey when Lamerle Zajicek was looking for the right flowers to paint around the front doors of SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts Hall. Mrs. Zajicek made patterns of different sizes for the three areas: over the doors, on each side, and between the front doors. Carla Mitchell, Regina Peevey, Alvielene Hartleb, and Lamerle Zajicek put the pattern on the wood then Carla and Lamerle painted beside the doors. Later, Alvielene and Carla painted the area over the doors. Louis Mitchell of Rogers cut the middle star with his laser cutter, and he donated it to replace the old wooden star over the entrance. The outside of this historical Lodge 15 Hall is being repainted as repairs and other areas are restored. —Lamerle Zajicek —SPJST—

High school football games are one of my favorite activities—espe-

cially when the Rogers Eagles (my alma mater) are playing. It was a special evening when Rogers played the Tidehaven Tigers on Friday, November 15 in Seguin for the first round playoff game. Not only was I able to cheer for the Eagles, but I was also cheering for a wonderful Tiger Cheerleader and current reigning District Six Queen—Sarah Siptak who was recently honored with the title of Tidehaven High School Homecoming Queen! David and I very much enjoyed visiting with Sarah and her family. Congratulations to Sarah, and best wishes in her senior year. And, congratulations to the Rogers Eagles for their victory.

2014 SPJST Calendars By now, most members should have received their 2014 SPJST Calendar in the mail. Calendars were mailed to all households with a current, correct address on file at the Home Office. If you or a member

you know did not receive their 2014 calendar, please call the Financial Secretary’s Department (800) 7277578 at the Home Office or send an email to info@spjst.org.

Archiving Your Scrapbooks Thanks to John Engelke of Lodge 66, Waco and Karen Kaspar of Lodge 30, Taiton who have delivered many of their lodge’s/youth club’s scrapbooks to the Home Office recently. These will be permanently archived and available for online viewing access soon. If your lodge or youth club would like its scrapbooks scanned and archived, please call or email me. We can work out details on getting the scrapbooks to the Home Office and returning them to you. This is part of a permanent, historical, online archive program that the Vestnik/Communication Department is working on to preserve SPJST’s proud past for current and future generations. —SPJST—

Friday, January 10 Fraternal Incentive Report – YearEnd and Year-End Fraternal Support and Community Services Report.

Friday, February 14 Outgoing Officer Awards—Please note the Outgoing Officer Award is meant for a seasoned fraternalist who is likely to be concluding his or her service as a lodge officer and not likely to hold another lodge officer position.

Thursday, May 15 990 and 990-T to IRS and copy to Home Office.

Clarification: SPJST Lifetime Achiever Awards and Outgoing Officer Plaques The SPJST Lifetime Achiever Award is meant to recognize those individuals within the lodge who have devoted a lifetime of service to their lodge or Society. Generally stated, that reflects an individual in his or her golden years who has contributed a minimum of 10 active years of devoted service. In recent years, some very youthful individuals have been designated by their lodges to receive the honor. Even

as SPJST greatly appreciates the time and energy of its young members, please keep in mind, the Lifetime Achiever Award is meant to celebrate the contributions of your lodge’s longtime and seasoned fraternalists. With regards to SPJST Outgoing Officer plaques, the idea—once again—is to honor lodge officials who may be near or at the end of their service tenure to the lodge. Generally stated, eligibility is based on being an outgoing lodge officer or trustee who has not been re-elected for the upcoming years and does not plan to seek reelection. If you have any specific questions related to the Lifetime Achiever Awards or Outgoing Officer plaques, please give me a call.

100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive The 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive continues through March 31, 2014. All members are encouraged to give their support. Through your generous donations, SPJST has been able to continue to provide scholarships to members who wish to further their education. Donations of any amount will be accepted and added to the general scholarship fund that is maintained by the Home Office. No amount is too small or too large.

SPJST Scholarship Program The deadline for submitting applications for the SPJST Scholarship is postmarked no later than Saturday, February 1, 2014. Any student (high school seniors and college undergraduates) who have not previously received a scholarship are eligible to apply. For an SPJST General Scholarship or Leadership Grant Application and complete guidelines, please call Executive Assistant to the President Sandra Dubcak at the SPJST Home Office (800) 727-7578 or (254) 7731575 or visit www.spjst.org.

Bowling Tournament to raise funds for scholarships. All lodges and/or members are encouraged to bring an item for the silent auction which will be held in conjunction with the bowling tournament to raise additional funds. Teams again this year will consist of five members—any combination of men and women. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with bowling starting at 12 noon. A handicap of 80 percent of 200 per game will be added to the total score following the completion of the third game. All teams are encouraged to pre-register by Saturday, February 1. Congratulations to Elizabeth Ann Hoelscher of Lodge 47, Seaton in District Two and Julie Reagan Langer of Lodge 25, Ennis in District Three as 2013 SPJST winners of Fraternal Alliance Of Texas scholarships. Fourteen students representing seven active fraternal benefit societies in the state of Texas were named recipients of scholarships at the conclusion of the 113th FAOT Convention held at the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange, Texas, on October 25. With your continued support, next year, we aim to present more and possibly bigger scholarships.

That’s right – our annual Christmas social is Thursday, December 12, 2013. Arrive at 6 p.m. for social time. The meal will be served promptly at 6:30 p.m. The lodge will provide ham, coffee, and tea. social. The lodge will provide them with a ham. Whatever you bring will be put to good use for their Christmas meal and possibly several meals. This is the season to give – and it is truly more blessed to give than receive – especially when we share our blessings with those in need. If anyone has any questions about the family, please contact Linda Mozisek (361) 676-7561. She can answer questions as she and Otto will be delivering the basket. Another thing new this year is to have a cookie exchange. Evelyn Horelka suggested this. It really is fun. I have participated in the exchange and love to take home cookies others have brought! If you want to participate, please bring three dozen cookies (all the same) and bring your

recipe so others can copy it if they want. Each person participating will get some of the other cookies to take home – the number of cookies you take home will depend on how many people are in on this – but everyone is to bring three dozen – and you will go home with three dozen. Fun to sample other cookies without making the entire recipe – if you like what you taste then you can make the recipe yourself! Yum-yum! Fraternally, Kathy Ahlstrom FAC/Reporter —SPJST—

Dallas Circle of Czech Women— Krouzek Českých Zen

President Deanna Houpy called the meeting to order. Deanna welcomed 15 members. It was good to see Kathy Nemec. Estelle Smith led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, and we remained standing for a moment of silence. Please remember Jeraldine Becan’s husband John in your prayers and thank a Veteran for his/hers service in our country’s military forces.

Jeraldine Becan thanked everyone who sent sympathy cards, called on the telephone, and attended John’s funeral. Recording Secretary Carole Faraizl read the minutes from the September meeting, and they were approved as read. Treasurer Deanna Houpy gave the treasury reports for September and October, and they were approved as read. Deanna said the check to the VA Hospital gift shop in memory of Mary Toberny as stated in the by-laws has not been cashed. Deanna asked what we should do about this. Joyce Ehrenberger suggested we could amend the by-law to state that we give a donation in memory of Mary Toberny to the VA Hospital gift shop. This was tabled until next year. A motion was made and carried that we eliminate the gift to the VA Hospital gift shop in memory of Mary Toberny this year. Parliamentarian Estelle Smith said we need to follow up on the change of the by-laws. Membership Chairman reported we have 66 members. She will have an update of the roster. Sunshine Committee Joyce Moore sent sympathy cards to Jeraldine Becan and Jerry and Deanna Houpy and get well cards to Martha Frnka and Albina Vrla. We signed thinking of you cards for Evelyn Trojacek who had surgery and Gilbert Kalich who fell and is in rehab now. Bessie Tydlaska read birthdays for October, November, and December, and “Happy Birthday” was sung to the celebrants. Under old business, a decision was

made on what to do with a check from Kathy Smalky who paid for dues for 10 years. We voted to return the check. The Christmas party was discussed. Bessie Petr will cater the luncheon on Friday, December 6. The price is $12.50 per person. The menu will be stuffed chicken breast with dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, roll, various kinds of desserts, and tea. President Deanna Houpy said of the 64 notices that we may disband, only 32 replied. Some wanted to try and have a meeting every two months. A discussion followed on maybe having the meeting over the weekend or changing the day of the week. This was tabled until next year. Deanna said she would like to continue until June with our last outing being to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange, Texas. We would rent a bus to go. More discussion will be later. Under new business, we discussed what to charge for bingo cards to be used for the Christmas party. We voted to charge $2 each. The Christmas party helpers’ list was handed out. A motion was made that we adjourn, and we adjourned with our quotation: “Mejte se vzdycky radi.”—Always Love one another. We held drawings for a 50/50 pot, “What is it,” and do vyhry. The blessing before the meal was recited. A luncheon of lasagna and garlic bread was furnished by the Circle and fruit, garden salads, and desserts were brought by the members.

tact telephone numbers for the new guideline and address book. Christmas shut-in members’ gift sacks were discussed. We have 12 shut-in members. Dorothy Kudrna and Ginny Svehlak volunteered to purchase the gift sack items. Thank you, both, for doing that. We started selling chances on the Christmas quilt and other items donated by Henrietta Milan. Thank you, Henrietta. Dorothy Prachyl, Pat Fowler, and I were appointed to the 2014 officers’ nominating committee. Officers will be voted on and installed at the December meeting and will take over January, 2014. We will also be collecting dues for 2014 in December. Please try and take care of this at the next meeting. President Irene had on display a really pretty tee-shirt quilt that she has already made and one that she is working on. She showed how you do it from start to finish. It really is a lot of work, for me it would be too much. Irene said she has already made 10 tee-shirt quilts for all her grandchildren. Dorothy Prachyl had for show and tell a hot or cold pad. She made it, and it has dried corn in it. You can heat it in the microwave or put it in the freezer to make it cold. It will really feel good. Lil Kosarek talked a little about her and Libbie’s trip to Israel and Jordan.

Libbie didn’t make the meeting, but she wrote about the trip in the October 30 Věstník. It sounded like they had a wonderful trip. Dolores and husband Joe also went on a trip to Israel. She also talked a little about it and enjoyed it. President Irene will have a short workshop in January 2014, showing how to cut, piece, and sew together a quilt top. She is really good at that, and it will be very interesting. The 50-50 dollar game was won by Victoria Vlk. President Irene announced that the Christmas will be December 12. We will meet around 10 a.m. unless you want to come earlier and help decorate. Bring a Christmas gift for at least $10, and please put your name on the gift. We will play 50-50 dollar game, pay dues, buy chances on the quilt and other items, and most of all, eat a delicious lunch. Irene thanked all for coming, the set up, clean up and for quilting. I almost forgot to mention we were so glad to meet Dorothy Prachyl’s daughter-in-law Cheryl Prachyl. She came and joined us for a while; she even quilted. We hope she comes again. Other News Dorothy and Wesley Prachyl and their family attended the wedding of their great-nephew Justin Vavra and

The newlyweds sealed their promises to each other in a special wooden box made by Justin’s late grandfather Bill Vavra. The sealed box is to be opened on the fifth anniversary. Eleanora Pelzel is back at Ennis Care Center in Ennis. I visited with her. She looked great and is doing fine. Hopefully, she can make the Christmas party. I feel like I have jumped from one thing to another, and nothing is in order. Please, forgive me. Happy Thanksgiving to all my readers. Stay well and happy. Georgie Morales, Reporter —SPJST—

Ladies Circle of Lodge 92 Fort Worth

Blessings just flowed and flowed with lots of gifts, love, and laughter as the Ladies’ Circle of Lodge 92, Fort Worth met on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. There were 44 members, four guests, and four men attending. President Marlene Bass led the group in the

Pledge of Allegiance and welcomed everyone to the meeting. Magdalena Kronenberger brought Christine Apperson with her, and Janet Basham brought her husband Curtis. Pauline and Don Morbitzer’s daughter Donna Thompson and son Paul Morbitzer from New Mexico joined us for lunch. Vice President Theretta Praslicka shared a lovely poem entitled, “A Thanksgiving Prayer.” The poem reminded us of our blessings and how fortunate we are. Business proceeded with the reading of the minutes and the financial report. Reports on those who were absent were given. Lucy Martinez’s husband is thought to have had a stroke; Monalee Hattendorf was in the hospital; and Sherry Watkins gave an update on her mother, Helen Kubala. Sunshine Chair Pauline will be sending Christmas cards to those who can’t come any longer, as well as those who are currently “out of pocket.” President Marlene presented information on our December 10 meeting and luncheon. We are so looking forward to the dessert—bread pudding— and the fun time we will have exchanging gifts. Should you wish to come, you do need to make a reservation. Please call me (817) 551-0965 or one of the other officers to get your name on our list. Plans for December that were voted on and discussed are: • There will only be a very short business meeting. • There will be no door prizes this time. • A $10 gift for the gift exchange is required if you want to play with us. • Donations to our targeted organizations will be accepted if they were forgotten last month.

Under business for the day, President Marlene thanked those who participated in the craft sale. There were a lot of goodies to be had. Beautiful jewelry, Christmas wreaths, handsewn items, and crocheted items. Curtis Basham brought some artwork in beautiful frames that he had made. The whole day was enjoyable, and we went back several times to make sure we had not missed anything. The election of new officers was discussed. By general consensus, the current ladies will continue with their duties except for Pauline Morbitzer. Pauline insisted that she be replaced. So-o-o, reluctantly, we will be looking for a financial guru to keep us straight. Pauline has given unselfishly for many years, and we will miss her willing spirit at the head table. Lunch was phenomenal. Oh, was it good! Our thanks to Mary Ann Krivanek, Marie Keller, Lupe Esparza, JoAnn Wilcox, Carolyn Irby, and Patti Williams for their work on the very delicious meal. Simply awesome! Ann Schneider and Marlene Bass were there to sing to and Chelsey Davidson got her birthday song via the telephone. Little Charlie was napping so they didn’t arrive until later. Happy late birthday to Jacki Phillips and Pat Cabera. Sherrie Watkins shared the upcoming schedule for the hall. For timely details on lodge activities as well as other events, please call the hall and check with Sherrie. They have quite a few events that are open to the public. Lastly, Sherrie thanked everyone for their assistance during the reception after her father’s funeral. The family was quite touched and appreciative. Prior to the door prizes being given away, several announcements were made:

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

• Wilma Perry (who volunteers at John Peter Smith Hospital) announced that the hospital is looking for people interested teaching mothers-to-be how to crochet and is looking for art supplies for the surgical waiting area and several other areas. If anyone is interested in sharing their gifts of time or supplies, please contact her.

• Ms. Gloria Farek once again had a gift for everyone. She made angels out of heavy twine. This had to be so time consuming because of their intricacy. Once again, we want to highlight her giving spirit and love for those around her.

• Sherrie Watkins is going to be a grandmother. Woohoo!

• Theretta Praslicka announced that her great-niece is involved in junior gymnastics and has been competing in states other than Texas, as well as the recent world championship in Bulgaria. She is still too young for the Olympic trials but hopes to participate when she is old enough.

And, finally, door prizes were given out. Lots of goodies were won by nine of our lucky ladies, and thanks to all who brought them. Following the door prizes and “show and tell,” Theretta told a couple of stories and the blessing for lunch was given. Bingo followed lunch, and we all enjoyed our time together. Our mantra is: “Come be with us . . . you’ll enjoy yourself.” Fraternally yours, Joan Simek Shropshire Secretary —SPJST—

State Youth Director shares December updates

I hope you and your family enjoyed Thanksgiving. Thank you, friends, for your willingness to welcome me as your State Youth Director in 2013. We stand united in our commitment to our SPJST youth through our statewide programming as well as through our many and varied local lodge youth club programs. We are blessed!

Now — or Later: A Trip to the Czech Heritage Museum! Christmas will be upon us very soon, and I am sure you will be hard at work preparing for your December meeting as well as other activities. Please consider taking a Czech heritage field trip to the museum with your youth group. During the holiday season would be great; however, the museum is open year-round, so you can come when it’s convenient for you.

The deadline for all Vestnik items is 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the publication date. Send your news and photos directly to:

And—when you decide to come—let me know so we can plan to join you on your walk back in time! I wish you and your family an amazing Christmas and thank you leaders for the gifts of time, energy, and perseverance that you devote to our young members through the SPJST Youth Program. Letters and Photos in the Vestnik I have enjoyed reading in the Vestnik about what your youth club has planned. It’s even nicer to read the follow-ups and see the event photos. Some of you do a great job of posting pictures in the Vestnik for all to see, and I applaud you on your extra efforts. We have 36 active youth clubs in the state and I would love to hear from all 36! It is so wonderful that you do things in your community and that youth leaders and parents are giving their youth experiences that build great character and that can never be taken away. It’s even nicer when you take the time to share news and photos of your great works with our SPJST family. If there is anything that I can do to help you

and your youth club, please let me know. Also, please encourage your youth club members to showcase their journalistic skills in the Vestnik. Their letters and reports—including, photographs, verses, short stories and even cartoons—are always welcome!

Youth Leaders Retreat Please mark your calenders and save the date. Youth Leaders Retreat will start on Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at the SPJST Home Office. I would really like for all youth leaders to come and stay overnight with us and head home on Sunday, March 23. All youth leaders and their assistants are encouraged to attend. A spouse or guest is welcome to accompany you. If you are planning to bring a spouse or guest, please let me know and I will work with you on making arrangements. We’re going to cover a lot of ground on Saturday’s program, but I plan on doing my best to make it as educational, informative, and fun as I possibly can. Following the daytime agenda, we will enjoy a nice meal and a funfilled evening. We have decided to change up some of the state-sponsored youth contests, and I would really like to get important feedback from all of you. We will also be addressing any questions that you may have about the youth program.

2014 Youth Program Theme: “SPJST - Enriching Lives 2014” Our youth club theme is “SPJST Enriching Lives 2014.” This is a great theme that hopefully will give our young artists the opportunity to make some great designs for next year’s camp tee-shirt design contest.

TCGS — A Friend is a Friend, Indeed

Despite how it has looked, SPJST’s Library is not packing up and moving out! Instead - thanks to a group of very dedicated volunteers from Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) - the Library is getting some much-needed attention. In its infancy, Texas Czech Genealogical Society met on a regular basis at SPJST Home Office; a bond was formed, and its desire to assist and enhance SPJST’s Library, Archives, and Museum, as it was formerly known, located in the basement of the SPJST Home Office in Temple, Texas, became apparent. Thus began a wonderful relationship with SPJST; consequently, the Library is receiving some much-needed attention. As “Friends of SPJST Library,

Archives, and Museum,” TCGS’ devoted volunteers began the process of cataloging and inventorying the Library’s entire collection of thousands of books as well as dusting and cleaning the bookshelves. After a few twists and turns, cataloging continues today at a steady pace. TCGS will create a listing of all books available in the Library - something that does not currently exist. A very special thanks to TCGS and its devoted team of volunteers for taking on this project and working tirelessly on this project. —SPJST—

This article is one of a series of “Letters to Bibbie, ” written by Ivo Marek to his distant relative Vickie (Bibbie) Cooper of Granger, Texas. Ivo and his parents live in Choceň, Czech Republic. Ivo is an engineer by profession and an accomplished weaver and textile artist. In addition, his hobbies are gardening, cooking, and fine-tuning his English.

Dear Bibbie, I will write about Ema Destinová today. Emilie Kittlová, known under pseudonym Ema Destinnová ( Emmy Destinn, next ED, 1878-1930) was the world-known Czech opera singer of soprano and generally educated personality. She was born in Prague as a daughter of a miner undertaker and an opera singer. She was very talented: she painted, wrote, learned to play on a violin, and she studied a dramatic art. As an artistic pseudonym Ema chose second name of her singing-teacher, mistress Löwel-Destinn. ED debuted in Court Opera House in Dresden in

1897. She had a big success and was accepted to a five-year cooperation in State Opera House in Berlin. She became there a prima donna. She debuted in title role of Puccini’s Madam Butterfly in Royal Opera Covent Garden in London in 1905. She acted in London until 1914. She hosted in Vienna, London, Prague and Paris. She was invited to Metropolitan Opera House of New York in 1908. There she sang the role of Mařenka in Smetana`s opera with

The film, Božská Ema (God’s Emmy) was made about her and the book „Velké srdce Ema Destinnová“ (Big heart Emmy Destinn) was written by M. Pospíšil. The portrait of the singer is printed on the Czech 2000 crown banknote. Fraternally, Ivo —SPJST— •••••

Milá Bibbie, dnes budu psát o Emě Destinové. Emilie Kittlová, známá pod pseudonymem Ema Destinnová ( Emmy Destinn, dále ED, *1878-1930) byla světoznámá česká operní pěvkyně sopranistka a všestranně vzdělaná osobnost.

V Londýně působila do r. 1914. Hostovala ve Vídni, Londýně, Praze a Paříži. R. 1908 byla pozvána do Metropolitní opery New York.

Halsbach prý létal s letadlem nad zámkem ve Stráži nad Nežárkou a paní Emě z letadla házel dolů do zámku kytice růží. Ivo —SPJST—

Abroad, he had the nickname “Czech Locomotive.” Zátopek said, “Victory is a great sake, but the friendship is better.” He finished his sport career in 1958. Nejvíce proslul během olympijských her 1952 v Helsinkách, kde získal 3 zlaté medaile: vyhrál běh na 5 km (14:06,72), 10 km (29:17,0) a dokonce i maratón (2:23:03,2), který tehdy

Expressions of Gratitude

“Homey” Environment

“Some brief reflections of our life at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living Community”

The facility has a “homey” environment, yet it is decorated with class. We like it for my mother because we are confidant she is in a secure and safe place. She gets three nourishing meals per day, gets her medication given at the right times, has her housekeeping taken care of weekly, can go to church, beauty shop, and exercise right there in the facility. There are so many activities for our mom in the facility as well as out and about taking the “SPJST Bus” for outings. Sometimes she must pick and choose because there is more to do than time allows. From the director to receptionist, volunteers, cooking staff, nurse, maintenance, and housekeepers, etc. everyone is so friendly and gets to know each resident by name. The thing we like most though is that the family is encouraged to participate in activities and enjoy meals with your family member. It is great, too, that my sister from out of town is allowed to spend the night when she comes for a visit. We especially like the common areas we can reserve when many of us visit at the same time. If you are looking for a place for a loved one where you don’t have to worry about them, the S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor is the place you are looking for. —Charlotte S. Albert of Thrall, Texas (Daughter of resident Arlene Schneider)

Friendly Neighbors and Good Friends

I can recommend S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living as a good place to live for several good reasons. You have your own apartment, furnished with your own things. There are personal assistants to assist you with what you need. The staff will assist you with medication, if needed. We have tasty and healthy full meals— three a day. We have our choice of games and crafts, also a variety of entertainment and church activities. Our neighbors are friendly, and we make good friends. —Abby Johnson, Resident

Many Advantages 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Small table dining. My two-room single person suite with bath. Furnishings and pictures from home. Plenty of plugs for sound system. The cleaning of apartments plus complimentary laundry. 6. Medicines managed. I do not have to schedule my own. 7. Meals are delicious. I have to guard against overeating.

These are just a few of the advantages . . . there are many more! —J. Noble Atkins, Resident

Beautiful Place and the Staff is Great

My name is Ruby Rakes. My husband Clarence and I have been married for 63 years. We came to S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in March 2012. We moved here from Dumas, Texas, a small town north of Amarillo in the Panhandle. Our reason for moving here is that our daughter and her husband live here in Taylor, and we needed to be near them. We also have some of our grandchildren and great-grandchildren that are in the area, too. We feel fortunate to be living in such a beautiful place. The staff is great, and they are very helpful in making everything pleasant. We find the staff and residents friendly and always willing to help. We enjoy the church services, musical entertainment, and bingo. There is always some kind of entertainment we can choose to attend. We would recommend S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living to anyone. —Clarence and Ruby Rakes, Residents

Attentive Care; Close-Knit, Family-Oriented

I can’t say enough about what a blessing it is for my father to live at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor. The staff is caring, dedicated, reliable, and professional. They take a personal interest in each of the residents and make everyone feel welcome. They offer physical fitness and social activities that are so important in maintaining the well-being of the residents. It has been my experience and observation that the staff provides the attentive care that enables my father to “feel at home.” It gives my family and I great peace of mind knowing that he is safe, happy, and well-cared for in a close-knit family-oriented community. —Theresa Hajda (Daughter of resident V.J. Hajda)

Lots of Entertainment and Fun

I moved to Taylor when my son and his wife found this place this wonderful place. Everyone here is so friendly and nice. Staff, employees, and residents are so willing and able to help in so many ways. There are so many fun things to do here. Today, we visited the Blanton Museum of Art down at the University of Texas. It was wonderful. There is always something to do, exercise everyday in the week, and very well-attended. Lots of entertainment, bus trips, and more fun! I have used the exercise since I arrived, and it has certainly helped me physically. We have games, arts and crafts, painting, and more. —Ann Geil, Resident
