TCGS introduces 2015 legend and symbol ornaments
ISSN —07458800
By Nancy Machu • Lodge 29, Taylor
Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS), with its Czech Veterans Military Museum and Texas Czech Pioneer Room located downstairs at the SPJST Home Office in Temple, is again offering a line of unique Christmas ornaments which are associated with traditions, symbols, and/or legends, many of which are associated with the birth of Christ, His crucifixion, or some other spiritual meaning. We invite you to consider adding one or more of these most interesting ornaments to your tree this year, offering you the opportunity to explain the legend or story to your family. The ornaments also make meaningful gifts for family and friends. Here are the first three ornaments. Look for additional ornaments in the next seven issues of the Vestnik, just in time for Christmas shopping.
The Legend of the Drummer Boy Ornament The legend of the Drummer Boy began after the song, “The Little Drummer Boy,” became popular. Originally titled “Carol of the Drum,” Katherine Kennicott Davis first published the song in 1941. It was based upon a traditional Czech carol. Davis’ interest was in producing material for an amateur girls’ choir. She searched far
and wide for suitable material, but the original Czech composition has never been identified, although the style is comparable with the Czech song, “Rocking Carol,” a lullaby written in the early 20th century by Miss Jacubickova as “Hajej, nynjej” and given English words by Percy Dearmer for the Oxford Book of Carols in 1928. “Carol of the Drum” appealed to the Austrian Trapp Family Singers, who first brought the song to wider prominence when they recorded it for Decca Records in 1955, shortly before they retired. (www.wikipedia.org) “Come,” they told him “to see the newborn King.” But the little drummer boy had no gift to bring so he played his drum – rum pum pum pum - for the Holy Child. The Child smiled at the simple gift, serving to remind us that the best gift of all comes from the heart. This exquisite Little Drummer Boy resin ornament is available in the TCGS Gift Shop for only $20, while supply lasts.
The Symbol of the Star of Bethlehem Ornament When one is in the country, away from the bright lights of the city, or on a lake, fishing during the night, the twinkle of the stars above you brings a sparkle to your inner most parts as nothing else can. Because of its prominence in the Nativity story, the Star of Bethlehem is one of the most powerful symbols of Christianity. On Christmas Eve, the

hanks to our members who submitted designs for the Design-anSPJST Float contest recently. We are reviewing the drawings and plan to redesign the two floats in 2016. We are proud and honored to participate in the Victoria Veterans Day Parade next Wednesday, November 11 at 10 a.m. The float will be hosted by Lodge 97, Placedo. We are also preparing for the Christmas parades coming up later in November and December. We received several requests to “bring the Frozen float” or “bring the Minions float.” So we decided to continue with those two themes for the remainder of the year. We are changing the floats up a bit and adding thousands of sparkly, shiny Christmas lights. The floats will participate in these Christmas parades:

If your lodge or youth club would like to host one of the SPJST Floats in your city’s or community’s parade, please give me a call 254-534-0807 or email melaniez@vvm.com. A driver from the Home Office brings the float to the parade, sets it up, drives it through the parade, disassembles the float, and returns it to the Home Office. The lodge’s/youth club’s responsibility is to ensure that members are riding on the float. This is a great advertisement/promotion for your lodge and its sales agents. Many lodges attach banners to the entry as it cruises down the parade route. The banner can promote the lodge or an activity or fundraiser. (Give me a call for specifics as some larger parades do not allow promotional banners.) And, some lodges tie in a social or meeting with the parade as they eat/meet before or after the parade. It’s a lot of fun . . . a great way to promote SPJST . . . and a fantastic time with your SPJST friends and family. Give me a call to book the float today! Congratulations, Clifton and Maggy! It’s a boy! Congratulations to Supreme Lodge Vice President Clifton Coufal and wife Maggy on the birth of new son Clive Samuel. Clive was born October 26, and Clifton reports that both Mom and Baby are doing well. Thanks to Clifton for sharing photos of this sweet bundle of joy on page 11! —SPJST—

Reader encourages proper parliamentary procedure
To Melanie Zavodny, FIC Over the years, I have attended numerous meetings and have found that in addition to fear of public speaking most people know next to nothing of parliamentary procedure, terminology, and function, thereof. They don’t know laying a motion on the table from a rolling pin; asking to have the floor from mopping the floor; reading of the minutes from reading a clock for the time of day, and making a motion from waving their hands in the air. I, therefore, suggest that you write a booklet that explains and describes parliamentary procedures as used in meetings for all those people who attend meetings. Make it available for sale through the Věstník by mail order, and let’s see how this flies. Sincerely, Frank L. Chovanec Lodge 29, Taylor
Editor’s Note: Thanks to Brother Chovanec for this letter. Parliamentary procedure guides are available to lodge officers and members by contacting the Fraternal Department at the Home Office. —SPJST—

From the President’s Department State FAC Shares November Fraternal Updates
Fraternalist of the Year Program Seeks to Recognize Devotion and Service Through the Fraternalist of the Year Program, SPJST lodges honor lodge members who through example and accomplishment have provided outstanding fraternal service to their lodge, society and community during the past year. Please complete the SPJST 2015 Fraternalist of the Year program nominating form. One was provided to FACs in my October Fraternal Activities Coordinator’s packet, and you will also find the form in this month’s packet. If you need another form, you may go online to spjst.org and download the form or contact Fraternal Services Specialist Tammy Martinez at the Home Office. I hope that every active lodge considers designating a Fraternalist of the Year in 2015 — someone who has shown a strong commitment to SPJST while making a tireless effort to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Your local lodge Fraternalist of the Year may be chosen in a variety of ways. The lodge decides upon the method that works best for you. The main emphasis should be on making sure that all adult members 16 or older be considered without bias and that the member’s effort was in some way exceptional or outstanding. SPJST Fraternalist of the Year forms will be reviewed by an outside fraternal organization to select the SPJST Fraternalist of the Year and honorable mention candidates. For that reason, we ask that your nomination form for the Fraternalist of the Year be returned to the office of the State Fraternal Activities Coordinator by December 11. Late submissions will be accepted; however, because of the time element involved, they may not be considered for SPJST Fraternalist of the Year honors. All lodge honorees will be recognized at the annual Lodge Recognition and Incentive Banquet to be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center in Temple. Important Paperwork Please know that the forms listed below are very important in receiving your enhanced premium refund and other incentives. Please return these forms even if there are no changes from the previous year. All other dead-
line dates remain the same. They are:
January 2, 2016—New Officers address, phone listing and email
January 9, 2016—Year-End Fraternal Incentive Reporting Hours
February 12, 2016—Outgoing Officer Awards May 15, 2016—990 and 990-T to IRS and copy to Home Office
Officer Elections The end of another year is rapidly approaching. Many lodges have had a very productive and successful year. This is the time of year when lodges across the state will be electing the leaders for the coming year. Has your lodge moved forward? Has your lodge met all of its goals? Has your lodge completed all of their projects planned for the year in your community? Has your lodge set goals for 2015? Keeping these questions in mind, they may help you make choices on who you will elect to keep your lodge moving forward in the coming year. It is the duty of all members to provide the leaders of their lodge with suggestions, ideas, and assistance. When asked to assist with activities throughout the year, please help your lodge officers. Fraternalism works best when every member is involved in the process. While lodges are electing new officers, this would also be an excellent time to update your meeting time and date under SPJST Fraternal Activities and Entertainment in the last two pages of the Vestnik. If any of this information has changed, please contact Vestnik Editor/Director of Communication Melanie Zavodny at 800-727-7578 and have her update your lodge information.
Outgoing Officers With the election of new officers, do not forget to honor your officers who have given their time and dedication to your lodge. Honor your outgoing leaders by giving them an outgoing officer plaque. Any officer who is not elected to serve in 2016 and does not seek reelection in future years is eligible. The recipient must be a current SPJST member and must be active at the time of selection. The plaques should be
awarded at your local lodge meetings.
100 Pennies Scholarship Drive The 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive will continue through March 2016. All members are encouraged to give their support as you have in the past. Through your generous donations, SPJST has been able to continue to provide scholarships to members who wish to further their education. Donations of any amount will be accepted and added to the general scholarship fund that is maintained by the Home Office. No amount is too small or too large.
Veterans Day On November 11, please remember to honor our veterans who have bravely answered the call to defend our right of freedom, aided and comforted our friends and allies, and have turned away countless aggressors. We, as a nation, can never repay our debt of gratitude to the many men and women who died in the line of battle or were wounded to protect the right of our freedom. Please pause on this day and at your local lodge meeting (even if it is after November 11) to recognize and thank the veterans and the many military men and women who have fought in the past and are still fighting today to protect our freedom.
Christmas Open House Please make plans to be in Temple on Monday, December 7. This is the date of the City of Temple’s annual Christmas parade and tree lighting. Again, this year, SPJST will participate in the parade so come out to see the SPJST Floats and State Royalty. Following the parade, SPJST will host the annual Christmas Open House at the Home Office, located at 520 North Main Street in Temple. What a great time to visit the Home Office and socialize with fellow SPJST members. Refreshments will be served and again there is a rumor that Santa and Mrs. Claus will stop by for a visit at the Home Office. Spread the word about this fun event. Watch the Vestnik for additional details as they become available.
Fraternal Alliance of Texas Scholarship Winners Congratulations to Grace Alston of Lodge 25, Ennis in District Three and Macey Randig of Lodge 48, Beyersville in District Two as 2015 SPJST winners in the Fraternal Alliance of Texas scholarships. Each year, students representing 11 active fraternal benefit societies in the state of Texas are
5
named recipients of the scholarship at the conclusion of the Fraternal Alliance of Texas. This year, the 115th Fraternal Alliance of Texas Convention was held at Catholic Life Home Office in San Antonio, Texas, on October 16, 2015.
Progressive 42 Domino Tournament The first SPJST state tournament of 2016 will take place on January 9. This will be the Progressive 42 Domino Tournament to be held at the SPJST Home Office in Temple. Please include in your New Year’s resolution to become actively involved in all state and local lodge activities in 2016. For additional details about the tournament, watch the Vestnik. Happy Thanksgiving From the Fraternal Department, at this time of Thanksgiving celebration, our thoughts turn gratefully to you our members with warm appreciation. We are all very thankful to be part of the wonderful SPJST statewide family that does so much for each other and our communities. As we celebrate the holiday, let us give thanks to our Creator and His Son and reflect on what is important, our family and friends. Cherish the time you have with each other and always let them know how much they mean to you.

Lodge 30, Taiton reports on October meeting
Dear Vestnik Readers, Lodge 30, Taiton held its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, October 11, 2015, at Taiton Community Center. President Yvonne Marcaurele called the meeting to order. Members present recited the Pledge of Allegiance led by the youth members present, and a moment of silence was observed for any sick or departed members. Secretary Wanda Dorotik called the roll of officers and members. She then read the minutes for the September meeting. Treasurer Lisa Bubela gave her report on the financial standing of our lodge. FAC Tommy Drapela reminded the members of the upcoming events around the state. He informed the members that we would need to submit our Fraternalist of the Year nomination by December 11. The table donated by Lodge 30 and made by member Ryan Drapela was very well received at the Taiton Community Center auction during its annual fall festival. Thank you, Ryan, for helping us out with our awesome prize for this event. Youth Leader Lisa Bubela reported on the comings and goings of our youth program. She also informed
members of rule changes that had been discussed at the recent District Youth Counselor meeting. Problems with camp were also addressed. District Six will be camping with District Two on the third weekend of July. Each district will now provide one nurse for camp next year. District Six Director Karen Kaspar thanked all members for hosting the district meeting. She received many compliments from other lodges on the “Get Healthy, Get Fit” program. President Marcaurele thanked the members for helping out where needed at the Taiton Community Center Fall Festival. The festival had a great turnout of support. People in attendance really enjoyed the patriotic tribute given by the youth. The youth have been asked to perform at the Czech Heritage Queen’s Contest on April 16, 2016. Wharton County Czech Heritage Society will be hosting the event in Taiton. The menu for our annual December meeting and Christmas social was then discussed. It was suggested that we prepare stew with sides of crackers, cornbread, and desserts. Lisa Bubela will put together a list of items for each family to bring. Wharton County Child Protective Services is in need of donations for the Christmas holiday season. It was decided to move our annual donation to the November meeting in order to provide a Christmas for the children in need.

One day I had lunch with some old friends. Jim, a short, balding golfer type, about 85-years old, came along with them; all in all, it was a pleasant bunch. When the menus were presented, my friends and I ordered salads, sandwiches, and soups, except for Jim who said, “A large piece of homemade apple pie, heated please.” I wasn’t sure my ears heard him right, and the others were aghast when Jim continued, completely unabashed . . . “along with two large scoops of vanilla ice cream.” We tried to act quite nonchalant, as if people did this all the time, but when our orders were brought out, I didn’t enjoy eating mine - I couldn’t take my eyes off of Jim as I watched him savoring each bite of his pie a-la-mode. The other guys just grinned in disbelief as they silently ate their lunches. The next time I went out to eat, I called Jim and invited him to join me. I lunched on a white meat tuna sandwich, while he ordered a chocolate parfait. Since I was chuckling, he wanted to know if he amused me. I answered, “Yes, you certainly do, but you also confuse me. How come you always order such rich desserts, while I feel like I must be sensible in my food choices?” He laughed and said, “I’m tasting all that is possible for me to taste. I try to eat the food I need and do the things I should in order to stay healthy, but life’s too short, my friend. I hate missing out on something good. This year I realized how old I was. (He grinned.) I’ve never been this old before, so, while I’m still here, I’ve decided it’s time to try all those things that, for years, I’ve been ignoring.” He continued, “I haven’t smelled all the flowers yet. There are too many trout streams I haven’t fished. There’s more fudge sundaes to wolf down and kites to be flown overhead. “There are too many golf courses I haven’t played. I’ve not laughed at all the jokes. I’ve missed a lot of sporting events and potato chips and cokes. “I want to wade again in water and feel ocean spray on my face. I want to sit in a country church once more and thank God for His grace. I want peanut butter every day spread on my morning toast. I want untimed, long dis-

tance calls to the one I love the most. “So, if I choose to have dessert, instead of having dinner, then should I die before night fall, I’d say I died a winner, because I missed out on nothing. I filled my heart’s desire. I had that final piece of pie before my life expired.” With that, I called the waitress over . . . I’ve changed my mind,” I said. “I want what he’s having, only add some more whipped cream!” —SPJST—

In the year 1882, they moved to Burleson County, and lived about seven miles from Caldwell. Anna moved to Alief in 1924, growing up on a cotton farm that became Andrua Airport and is now Royal Oaks Country Club. At age 17, she married James Mayes (J.M.) Baker, Jr. They lived for a brief period in the 1930s in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they built houses, and her husband worked on the railroad. Texas called them back home in 1941. In 1949, they settled in Barker where she lived most of the rest of her life. Anna became the first woman school bus driver for Katy ISD in 1955. In 1959, Anna drove a school bus with the local fans to see the Katy Tigers win their first State Championship. She also worked in the Addicks Elementary School cafeteria, and later became the manager. After 18 years of managing the cafeteria and 22 years as a bus driver, she became head custodian at Katy High School, a responsibility she performed very efficiently for eight years. Anna retired from Katy ISD in August 1985, after 30 years of dedicated service to the school district. Anna painted for the school district during the summers, and had hung wallpaper and sheetrock. During her tenure, she was available for most extracurricular activities. Anna enjoyed working the banquets and especially football games. Anna was a member of SPJST Lodge 999, Home Office. State Youth Director shares November updates
Dear Youth Leaders, November is here! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family! To those of you who will be traveling during Thanksgiving, may your journeys be joyous and safe. I hope everyone had an opportunity in October to participate in Make a Difference Day. I will be anxiously awaiting photographs and letters about all the good works done by our youth members and their families. The year is really zooming by so please be sure to take some time out at your next youth meeting to discuss having a membership drive. Membership drives can help create a momentum of growth in your group, but don’t just stop there. Continue to host fun events for youth to enjoy throughout the year. Remember, each youth club receives one free maillot every year! Vestnik Editor Melanie Zavodny can make some really great event flyers and mail them out - all you have to do is plan the event. Check out www.thesource4ym.com for some really great youth event ideas! With November here and December right around the corner, it is the time for families to come together and be thankful for what is important — good health, relationships, and life’s simple blessings. This is also the time of the year our youth can make a big difference in someone else’s life. There are many families having a hard time making ends meet. Youth Leaders, consider challenging your youth to help out a family in need in the local
community, helping stock your local food pantry, helping an elderly neighbor, or assisting your local Salvation Army with its Red Kettle Christmas Drive. Also, lodge Christmas parties will be starting and members love a well-planned Christmas play. Start planning today and don’t forget to take plenty of pictures and share your Christmas joy with SPJST members across the state.
“Let The Good Times Roll” Membership Drive Even if your youth club has not yet achieved its “Let The Good Times Roll” goal, there’s still time! Encourage your youth club members to turn in those referral cards! All referral cards received during a given month go into a drawing for three $25 gift cards. All referral cards received during the year will go into a drawing for five $100 gift cards to be awarded at the 2016 SPJST Awards Banquet in January.
Youth Leader Incentive I have been very impressed with several youth clubs across the state who have increased their membership and are in the running for the $100 youth leader incentive. Just in case it has slipped your mind - If your youth club active membership increases by five new members, the youth leader will receive $100. If your youth club active membership increases by 10 or more, the youth leader will receive $200. There is still plenty of time to build up your youth club and win some extra spending money!
SPJST Scholarships and Leadership Grants All members who are high school
seniors are encouraged to apply for the SPJST General Scholarship and Leadership Grant. Undergraduates are encouraged to apply for the General Scholarship. Please remember that you need to be an active youth club member to apply for the Leadership Grant. For more information or for applications, please call Sandra Dusack in the Fraternal Department. Completed scholarship applications and related application materials must be postmarked on or before February 1, 2016.
Vestnik Project Due Dates Keep those Vestnik Projects coming in on time. This is a simple way to make sure each youth club member receives the points that they deserve. I would like to commend the vast majority of you for getting the Vestnik Projects in on time. Keep up the good work! October Vestnik Projects are due on November 15. November Vestnik Projects are due on December 15. December Vestnik Projects are due on January 15.
Quarterly and Merit Reports Due December 15 Please make every effort to submit your quarterly and merit reports before December 15. This is the second quarterly report for September, October, and November. Those of you that email the electronic quarterly report into the youth office need to submit the sign-in sheet with the electronic file. This took the place of the youth having to initial the paper quarterly report. You can send the sign-in sheet by scanning the page, mailing or faking to my office. The fax number for the Fraternal Department is 254-7747447. These reports help to determine the funding your youth club will receive at the spring meeting and how much money your district receives for its youth activities. Youth clubs that do not submit their quarterly and merit reports on time will lose out on their incentives. This can mean losing hundreds of dollars for your youth club.
100 Pennies Scholarship Drive This year’s goal is to raise $20,000. This is in addition to the allocation which the Supreme Lodge has made. Through your generous donations, SPJST has been able to continue to provide scholarships to members who wish to further their education. Thanks to all of the young people and youth clubs who contribute to this
VĚSTNÍK
wonderful program. If you have not contributed in the past, please consider doing so this year. Remember that no contribution is too big or small. All young people who donate at least $2 will receive two merit points. All young people who donate at least $5 will also receive a certificate. Veterans Day Please take time and remember our Veterans at your next youth club meeting in November. Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11.
Christmas Open House December 7 All members are cordially invited to attend the Temple Christmas parade on Monday, December 7 in downtown Temple at 6:30 p.m. SPJST will have several entries in the parade including the fourth statewide appearance of our 2015-2016 SPJST State Royalty Court. Following the parade, everyone is invited to the SPJST Christmas Open House at the SPJST Home Office, located at 520 North Main Street. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Come by and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and enjoy the SPJST as it comes alive with a traditional Czech family home with Czech Christmas customs. The Czech Christmas tree will be on display with traditional Czech ornaments. The youth will enjoy balloon twisting and face painting. The open house will feature music, refreshments, and lots of fun. Throughout the Christmas season, the Home Office will feature the Youth Christmas Tree featuring the statewide winning youth ornaments. Spread the word about this fun event. Great Things Are Possible When You Let Your Creativity Flow
Boys and girls the world over love to draw, paint and create. Through their artwork, they develop their skills as well as their imagination. What’s more, it’s been proven that early exposure to visual art, music and drama helps children to understnad other subjects much more clearly - from math and science to langueage arts and geography. One of the best things about drawing , painting and crating is that it doesn’t have to stop when you get older. For many, art becomes a life-long form of self-expression that sometimes turnes into an enjoyable career.
This Little Mole Knows How to Get Things Done
Krtek does not live in Texas. He is originally Czech, and like many Czechs, he likes to travel, but he’s not very wellknown here in America. Over the past 50 years, generations of Czechs and European children have grown up with Krtek, the red-nosed, wide eyed mole who was created in 1957 by Czech illustrator and cartoonist Zdenek Miler. Many of the Krtek cartoons are now available for viewing on youtube.com.
It was like that with great Czech cartoonist Zdenek Miler. Born in 1921, near Prague in what was then Czechoslovakia. Miler enjoyed painting as a child. He took his hobby to a new level when he joined the national graphic school in Prague in 1936. He later studied at the College of Arts and Crafts.
Over the past 50 years, generations of Czechs and children all over Europe have grown up with Krtek, the red-nosed, wide-eyed little mole. In this first cartoon, Krtek makes a pair of linen overalls, with help from a frog who soaks the flax, spiders who spin the yarn, ants who weave the cloth and a crawfish who cuts the fabric. This cartoon was the only one in which Krtek actually spoke. Mr. Miler wanted his mole to be understood everywhere in the world so he decided to use his daughters as voice actors, reducing Krtek’s speech to short exclamations that would express his thoughts and feelings.
Between 1957 and 2002, Krtek starred in 52 cartoons. Krtek changed slightly over time, but the basics were always ther: the forest, other animals, and a problem that Krtek always manged to solve. Krtek is a kind soul, good to his friends, and environmentalist and an excellent gardener. His curiosity and willingness to try give him great charm. Krtek is so famous and beloved in Europe, that he was the first Czech character to appear on DVD. In 2011 Krtek joined astronaut Andrew Feustel on the Space Shuttle Endeavour which helped inspire students to excel in the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Many of the Krtek cartoons are now avialable for viewing on youtube.com.
Now, it’s your turn to get creative!

We encourage Czech or Slovak. It is important to us to keep the tradition and support Czech language. This is a unique opportunity to get our children excited and gives us a reason to try harder. Your children will thank you one day for keeping their brains bilingual. However, we have compassion for the fact that there are many third generation Czech and Slovaks whose children might find it hard to understand. In that case, you have a couple of options: If your child doesn’t understand, be prepared to translate for him/her. If you need a translator, we will do our best to help. If you would like your lit-

tle ones to have a little practice, feel free to drop in any Sunday morning for Školka class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. We will be practicing many simple Czech songs suitable for such an occasion. As a courtesy for those who don’t speak Czech at home at all, please indicate that on the form, and we will set up a group audience for English speakers only. Due to a laborious process of preparing Mikulas’ book, we will not be able accommodate any late entries. Please respect that this is a volunteer effort and do your part by sending it on time. Thank you for your understanding.
You are cordially invited to The Mikulášská Besídka! Join us please on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at 4 p.m. for great family fun at Sokol Dallas, 7448 Greenville Avenue in Dallas, Texas 75231. Live music will be performed by Dallas Czech Orchestra. Mikuláš and his helpers are definitely coming to Dallas. Come to meet them! The program will include games, dance, craft, potluck, and a gift from Mikuláš. Mikuláš will have a gift for you in an exchange for a poem, song, or a carol. The part of the magic is that Mikulas knows things about the child no one else can know. He will ask poignant questions and demand answers for lingering issues during his interview. He will also expect a token of respect. Traditionally, children

Prague, Oct 29 (ČTK) — Václav Havel Airport Prague saw its passenger numbers rise by 6.8 percent to 9.2 million in the first three-quarters of this year, spokeswoman Marika Janoušková told the Czech News Agency. The number of aircraft movements (landings and take-offs) increased by 0.2 percent to 97,500. “Based on the latest data we can expect the total passenger numbers for 2015 to approach a level of 12 million. Everything depends on the business strategy of individual carriers on and weather conditions,” Janoušková said. The biggest number of passengers arriving in and departing from the Prague airport came from Britain, Germany, Italy, Russia and France. Most passengers travelled from Charles de Gaulle Paris Airport, Frankfurt, SheremetyevoMoscowAirport, Amsterdam and London’s Heathrow. Air carriers operating at the Prague airport were dominated by Travel Service and Czech Airlines, followed by easyJet, Lufthansa and Ryanair. Last year, 11.15 million passengers were handled at the Prague airport, 1.6 percent more than in 2013. The number of “local passengers” for whom Prague was the starting or final destination posted an annual rise of 5.68 percent. In January to September 2015, the number of local passengers rose by 6.85 percent. Based on the figures released today, the Flight Traffic Management expects the number of flights across the Czech air space to reach a record level of 750,000 this year.
