Lodge 186, Caldwell Member Celebrates 100th Birthday

Tracy Chaloupka Wine of SPJST Lodge 186, Caldwell celebrated her 100th birthday on October 17, 1915. She is the daughter of Joe and Matilda (Trcalek) Chaloupka. Sister Wine was raised in the Cooks Point community with her b r o t h e r s Wilton, Engbert, and Edward and sister Annie Lee. She attended Liberty School and graduated in 1935 from Caldwell High School. She was baptized and confirmed in New Tabor Brethren Church. In 1938, she married Robert Wine. She has lived in Burleson County all her life doing hard farm work which she contributes to her long life. Husband Robert passed away in 2004. Tracy lives in Caldwell and still attends Cooks Point Brethren Church. The City of Caldwell declared Oc-

tober 17, 2015, as “Wine Day” in honor of Sister Wine’s 100th birthday. Loved ones joined her in celebrating her big day with cupcakes at Cooks Point Community Center. They also created a memory wall of pictures showing her time in Burleson County through the years. Sister Wine credits her longevity to life as a farm girl. She says she is thankful for all those who love her. “It was a beautiful day,” she says. “So many friends came out like my nieces and nephews who planned this party for me. I was so happy.” The Caldwell mayor also presented the centenarian with a proclamation declaring October 17 as Tracy Wine Day. Congratulations to Sister Wine on her special achievement! —SPJST—

A

woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to drop. She was engrossed in her book but happened to see, that the man sitting beside her, as bold as could be . . . grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene. So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.” With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half. He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought . . . oooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude! She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called. She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate. She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her

bag of cookies, in front of her eyes. If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others were his, and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief. —By Valerie Cox in “A Matter of Perspective” Happy Administrative Professionals Day! I would like to thank Delisle Doherty for responding in the way he did to my comment for delegates to call the candidates for Vice President and ask for information about their candidacy, qualifications, and plans for the SPJST if they are elected to the position. His response is more effective because it reaches all of our members who receive the Vestnik. This is the way it should be because of the magnitude of the decision we are about to make. Just reaching only a handful of delegates does not allow for proper knowledge of all candidates by our members and delegates. I know most of those involved in making the decision will not call and seek out this information. By writing a letter addressing the three areas I mentioned in my letter will give all of us something to go by to make an informed decision which is in the best interest of SPJST. Therefore, I encourage and challenge the remaining candidates to do the same so all can see where you are coming from in your quest for this very important position. I look forward to reading your bio and seeing your plans for the future of SPJST. Fraternally, Donnie Victorick District One Director Supreme Lodge Chairman —SPJST—

I, too, have stories of wearing feed sack dresses. In 1947, when I was pregnant, I had a couple of dresses made out of feed sacks. Now I have a pair of pillow cases that I embroidered in 1936 on feed sacks, and they are still usable on our antique bed. I also have some kitchen towels of feed sacks. Our cows were real valuable not only for milk and butter, but also the feed sacks were put to good use. Fraternally yours, Dorothy Ann Rothermel Lodge 169, Brenham —SPJST—

We have visitors from every state and every country as we celebrate our ancestors of Czech and Slovak immigrants who came and stayed and made a difference as did all immigrants in building our State of Texas in every field. At no time have we ever had any confusion about Czech or Czechoslovakia, and indeed what we do every day is to stand for Czech person’s identity and homeland, not Czechia but Czechoslovakia. There appears some-

thing wrong about changing the name of the founders of the Czech nation, Tomas Masaryk, the Czech Moravian founder in 1918. If one has read world history you readily know this even from many editions from National Geographic. You surely have read about our great American General George Patton, who liberated Czechoslovakia as far as the City of Pilsen. Here again history says Czechoslovakia not “Czechia” that sounds rather eastern Europe like another country whereas the nation of Czechoslovakia is the “heart” of central Europe. Read earlier history, the early chronicles of Saint Wenceslaus, patron of the Czech lands from whom they derived their pride of country, of people, patriotism and moral values. Think of the history of the first Czech, Grandfather Czech, who emigrated from the steppes to Rip Hill in Prague where the first seat of government was established. Addi-

tionally, would anyone even think of changing his name, Vaclav Havel, I don’t believe so! Historians the world over know him. In Texas, there are estimated a million persons of Czech heritage, and they are proud of it and they certainly know where it is and know who they are as “Czech.” We speak to that identify that nation not by any other name. And what could be wrong with “Czechland” as it serves so many others well, i.e. Poland, Scotland, Switzerland, Holland, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, and Ireland. It would certainly cement clarity and avoid considerable cost in name changing. I have a thought: “Rebranding” is a current fad and a marketing trend, and a bad choice at this time. Perhaps the hype just may be to continue promoting this lovely land with bright people who after many years have a chance at happiness and return of their identity.

From the By-Law Committee By-Law Recommendation

Dear Mr. Rieger, At Lodge 24, Cyclone’s monthly meeting, we passed a change to the bylaws as follows:

Terms of the board members be limited to 10 years with a net worth of $150,000. Should the first part of the corporate agenda pass, this would complete the change. Fraternally, Robert W. Hoelscher, Jr. Lodge 24, Cyclone Chair of the Board —SPJST—

By-Law Recommendations

To: Mildred Holeman and the other members of the By-Laws Committee, The following are my recommendations for the Special Structure Committee’s Proposed Recommendations for By-Laws of SPJST:

Article VII Section 19 to read: Election of Supreme Lodge President, Editor/Director of Communication, and Seven District Directors.

The By-Law Committee will serve as a screening committee for the purpose of establishing a screening process for the purpose of reviewing all qualifications of submitted candidates for Supreme Lodge President, Editor/Director of Communication, and Seven District Directors. The committee has the right to gather additional background information, submit the slate of qualified candidates to the delegates 90 days prior to Convention, and shall have the discretion to consult with personnel with legal and human resource expertise to assure compliance with current labor laws. Anyone seeking the positions of Supreme Lodge President, Editor/Director of Communication, or a District Director must announce candidacy at least 120 days prior to Convention.

Article VII Section 28. Delegate Selection Procedure I would like it to state when the delegates should receive the forms they are to bring with them to the Convention. Seems reasonable for them to receive it at the annual meeting after the President and Secretary sign them. Our lodge treasurer, who should not have them in the first place, said she will give them out at the May lodge meeting. Article X Section 33. Regular Meetings Last sentence seems to repeat the one before it.

VĚSTNÍK

Article XII Section 62. By-Law Committee (8) Add that a copy of the By-Laws be sent to all delegates and members of committees from that convention. Article XIV Local Lodges Section 73. Mergers Should the last sentence be if a majority? Fraternally, Catherine Manchack Lodge 142, Houston —SPJST—

By-Law Recommendations

Dear Members of the By-Law Committee, I would like for the members of the By-Law Committee to consider this change. I would first like to say that I agree with the recommendation to hire for the positions of Vice President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Financial Treasurer and elect the President and Vestnik Editor/Director of Communication. However, I also think that in the event that the majority of delegates do not agree with this ideology then it would be in the best interest of the members of this committee to consider putting more qualifications on officer positions. I personally feel that by requiring all candidates that run for election be a member of SPJST for five years is seriously limiting the pool of qualified candidates. With that being said, I also think that the only office that should require a candidate to be a member for any length of time is the President. I propose four years instead of five. Please see my suggested changes to existing Article 26 on page 23 of the bylaws approved at the 31st Convention printed below. Thank you for your consideration.

Article 26 (1) Have knowledge of both the Czech and English languages. (2) Is a citizen of the United States of America at the time of election. (3) Must be a member or willing to become a member with at least $50,000 of insurance or if uninsurable at the standard rate, then an annuity in at least the amount of $20,000. Such insurance or annuity to be with SPJST. (4) Strong skills in writing routine reports and correspondence. (5) Prior supervisory experience required.

(6) Excellent planning, organizational, and leadership skills. (7) Be willing to travel, work evenings, and weekends. (8) Have experience working for a nonprofit organization.

By-Law Recommendations

Dear SPJST By-Law Committee, We support electing the Věstník Editor/Director of Communication and the Supreme Lodge President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer. Democracy is an important part of SPJST on all levels - local lodge, district, and state. Our members are most important, and it is their voices that have guided our Society for 119 years. As a fraternal organization, we are very unique - and our members have continuously been involved in the aspects of SPJST - especially as it relates to the Věstník. Continuing to elect these positions is very important in order for our membership to preserve its voice in SPJST. We ask you to consider the following changes to the Special Structure Committee’s proposed recommendations that were presented in the September 9, 2015, Věstník:

SPJST BY-LAWS ARTICLE VIII SUPREME LODGE Section 41. Vacancy. In the event of a vacancy by the President, Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer), Director of Accounting/Information Technology Services (Financial Secretary), or Editor/Director of Communication (after consultation with the Publication Committee), such vacancy will be filled by appointment by the Supreme Lodge.

Reason—The Publication Committee works very closely with the Editor/Director of Communication, and we believe the Committee should be consulted with on the very important task of filling a vacancy in the position. This also coincides with Article XII – Supreme Lodge – Section 31(n) that reads “Investigate all irregularities, disorders, and incompetence in office of any Supreme Lodge member and Editor/Director of Communication (after consultation with the Publication Committee). Following a thorough investigation, including a hearing of such charges and 20 days advance notice to the accused, the Supreme Lodge may discharge the accused from his/her office by a two-thirds vote.”

ARTICLE XI EDITOR/DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATION AND VESTNIK – OFFICIAL PUBLICATION Section 54. Qualifications. (b) Terms. The Editor/Director of Communication’s position will be elected by the delegates at the Convention. The term of office is from July 1 of the Convention year to June 30, following the Convention. The Editor/Director of Communication may not hold any position in the district or local lodge or serve as an agent for any other life insurance company or any similar fraternal order. Reason—Local lodge service is important and should be encouraged.

SPJST OPERATIONS MANUAL CHAPTER 4 VESTNIK/COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT Section 10. SPJST’s Official Publication — Věstník. (b) Věstník Content. The Věstník shall contain material grouped in sections, including original editorial articles, various reports, a youth section,

and a Czech heritage/cultural section. A portion of the printed material shall may be in the English Czech language. In the event it becomes necessary, a larger portion thereof may be in the English or Czech language. Reason—Updated information.

(c) Objectionable Material. The Publication Committee will make decisions concerning objectionable contributions in the following manner:

(1) If the Editor/Director of Communication considers any matter questionable or harmful to SPJST, he/she shall mail a copy of the material in question to each member of the Publication Committee, who shall respond by return mail. The committee may consult with legal counsel. Reason—If needed, the Publication Committee should be allowed to seek legal counsel on questionable material submitted to the Vestnik.

(2) If the material is considered acceptable by four members of the committee, the Editor/Director of Communication will present the article to the Supreme Lodge officers for final approval before publishing the article in its entirety, without comment or remarks.

Reason—We believe the members’ voice must be preserved in SPJST. Publication Committee members represent seven geographic regions of the state and each have his/her own opinion. We believe that changing this will help preserve the members’ voice in SPJST. Fraternally, SPJST Publication Committee Jarolyn Popp, Chairman District Seven Floyd Kostelka, Vice Chair District One Helen Kelner, Secretary District Six Tammy Cannon District Two Lynda Novak District Three Sharon Hohmann District Four Lorenda Baldwin District Five —SPJST—

By-Law By-Law Amendment Recommendations Recommendation Mildred, According to the Preamble, under the heading of Membership, “All persons can become members if they are insurable, are within the specified age limits, and live a decent and respectable life. All members must be citizens or legal residents of the United States.” Recommendation is to add or with ITIN number. Other companies write life insurance on people with an ITIN number, but we cannot because those with an ITIN number may be paying taxes but may not be a legal resident. Since our life insurance is a membership and they have to be a resident, it stops us from putting new members into the lodges that are already doing business with our competitors. Delisle L. Doherty Lodge 196, Houston-West

Editor’s Note: According to the IRS, an ITIN is a nine-digit number issued by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to individuals who are required for U.S. tax purposes to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have and are not eligible to get a social security number (SSN). —SPJST—

By-Law Recommendation

Dear Committee Members, I’d like the following by-law recommendation to be discussed:

DYC (District Youth Counselor) needs to have at least one year of experience as a lodge youth leader or assistant youth leader to be eligible to run for DYC. The State Youth Director needs to be consulted if the conditions aren’t met. Sincerely, Lynette Kitchen Lodge 185, New Braunfels —SPJST—

I’m respectfully submitting that the following changes be made to the proposed 2016 by-laws.

Article VI Section 19 to read: Anyone seeking the position of . . . must announce their candidacy to the By-Law Committee 120 days before the convention, to be screened and vetted. The By-Law Committee will then present to the member the approved slate of candidates in the Vestnik 90 days before the convention.

Article VI Section 13 (i) District Caucuses. The purpose . . . is to elect the District Director from the approved slate of candidates, and to nominate and elect a substitute Director ... Please feel free to contact me if you would like additional explanation or clarification on these. Don Fruin Lodge 196, Houston-West 832-651-5388 —SPJST—

By-Law Recommendations To: SPJST By-Law Committee

We recommend the following changes to the Special Structure Committee’s Proposed Recommendations for By-Laws of SPJST, as published in the Vestnik dated September 9, 2015: ARTICLE V MEMBERSHIP

Section 5. Membership Classes.

(3) Further, it is determined that in the event that a third party owner surrenders the insurance or annuity, the insured who is the member shall have his/her membership privileges imparted by the surrendered insurance or annuity terminated immediately.

Reason: The phrase “terminated immediately” needs to be added to complete the sentence.

ARTICLE VI CONVENTION Section 8. Purpose.

(f) Authorize the Supreme Lodge to employ a Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer), and Director of Accounting/Information Technology Services (Financial Secretary).

(f) Decide what donations will be made to various charities and educational institutions, etc. Reason: Duplication. Employing a Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer), and Director of Accounting/Information Technology Services (Financial Secretary) is provide under Article VIII - Supreme Lodge - Section 31. (q).

their successors are seated at the following convention. duly elected and qualified. The duly elected and qualified delegates and substitutes to the most recent regular Convention shall be the delegates and substitutes to any special Convention or for any ballot in lieu of a special Convention. If a delegate is not in the Convention by the second day, he/she will not be seated unless he/she has a good excuse, such as serious illness/emergency or death in immediate family. In the event of the merger of two or more lodges following the Convention, those delegates of each lodge shall be entitled to the same number of votes they had at the preceding Convention.

Reason: Delegates should serve from convention to convention - not from the time they are elected in the annual meeting to the next delegate election. ARTICLE VIII SUPREME LODGE

Section 16. Proceedings. All proceedings in the Convention, unless such rules are not covered by the by-laws, are conducted in accordance with the current edition of “Robert’s Rules of Order.” Newly Revised.”

Section 30. Qualifications. Conflict of Interest.

Section 18. Voting. The enactment, deletion, or amendment to a by-law requires a two-thirds vote by authorized votes of delegates present. Unless otherwise required by law or the laws of SPJST, all other matters are decided by a majority of authorized votes of the delegates present. Delegates shall vote by voice, show of hands, standing, roll call, or secret ballot as designated by the Convention Chair. No delegate shall vote by proxy. All new by-laws become effective on the latter of July 1 or the date filed with Texas Department of Insurance following the Convention at which they were adopted. or approval by the Texas Department of Insurance.

Reason: This by-law is unenforceable due to the fact that districts elect their directors in separate caucuses. For example, if a member announces and is nominated and elected by the delegates in District One and his/her sibling announces and is nominated and elected by the delegates in District Seven, which sibling resigns?

Reason: The phrase “current edition” will suffice. The phrase “Newly Revised” is not needed.

Reason: Texas Department of Insurance does not send an approval letter, but we do have to file the changes before they become effective. ARTICLE VII LODGE DELEGATE ELECTIONS

Section 27. Term. Delegates and substitute delegates shall hold office until

Reason: Clarification.

(c) No person can be an employee or member of the Supreme Lodge if he/she is related to any member of the Supreme Lodge within the third degree, as construed under Section 573 of the Government Code of the Texas Revised Civil Statutes.

Section 33. Regular Meetings. The Supreme Lodge shall meet quarterly during the third week or weekend in January, April, July, and October. In case of necessity, the President has the right to change the date of the meeting. Meetings are open to SPJST members except during executive sessions concerning personnel, disciplinary matters, litigation, or threatened litigation. Supreme Lodge meetings are open to the members except during personnel disciplinary matters and executive sessions concerning litigation and threatened litigation.

Reason: This sentence is repetitive with the previous sentence. ARTICLE IX SUPREME LODGE OFFICERS

Section 43. Officer Requirements.

(c) Must have at least $50,000 of SPJST life insurance or, if not insurable at standard rates, an SPJST annuity in at least the amount of $20,000.

Reason: This places a reasonable limit on the cost of insurance for an officer. The cost of a $50,000 life policy can exceed the face amount of the policy for an older person that would be table rated. Section 44. Terms.

(b) No Supreme Lodge officer or his/her spouse can be an SPJST sales agent and receive commissions for services as a sales agent.

Reason: Clarification. Supreme Lodge officers can sell SPJST products, but they cannot receive commissions.

Section 48. Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer). In addition to the Supreme Lodge officer requirements, the Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer) must have experience in corporate management and administration/accounting and knowledge in the mortgage lending and loan origination field, investment management, and claims and annuity administration. The Chief Financial Officer (Secretary-Treasurer) is designated as corporate secretary.

Reason: A corporate secretary is recommended. For example, the annual Corporate Governance Annual Disclosure (CGAD) must be signed by the CEO or Corporate Secretary of the filing insurer. ARTICLE X SUPREME LODGE DIRECTORS

Section 51. Director Requirements.

(c) Have SPJST life insurance in force or, if not uninsurable at standard rates, have an SPJST annuity.

Reason: Same reason as Section 43 (c) above.

ARTICLE XII STANDING COMMITTEES: BY-LAW, FINANCE, INSURANCE, AND PUBLICATION

Section 56. Composition. Each standing committee shall be comprised of seven members, one elected by each district. The committee members elected at the 2016 convention will function at the 2020 Convention. through the succeeding convention.

Reason: Eliminating the precise year and substituting the phrase “through the succeeding convention” eliminates the need to codify this section after each convention.

Section 58. Eligibility. Supreme Lodge members, their spouses, or and SPJST Home Office employees are not eligible for membership on any standing committee, but they are free to attend the committee meetings, make suggestions and recommendations, and assist the committees in every way possible. The committee has the right to deliberate and hold executive sessions during which the persons mentioned in this section will not be present. Reason: Clarification.

ARTICLE XIV LOCAL LODGES

Section 69. Charter. Lodges and youth clubs are subordinate bodies under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Lodge. Individual local lodges must receive their charters from the Supreme Lodge. Lodges are largely self-governing organizations but shall comply with these by-laws, the current edition of “Robert’s Rules of Order,” Newly Revised,” Local Lodge Officers’ Handbook, and all other requirements adopted by the Supreme Lodge. Local lodges may, upon adoption of a proper resolution by its membership, incorporate for fraternal, benevolent and charitable purposes and make contracts, purchases, mortgages, lease and hold real and personal property necessary to carry out its purposes under the Nonprofit Corporation Act of the State of Texas. Reason: The phrase “current edition” will suffice. The phrase “Newly Revised” is not needed. Section 77. Suspension of Member-

ship. Members may be suspended from local lodge membership for good cause but will not lose their insurance benefit except for nonpayment of premiums. (See Article XIX – Resolution of Disputes) According to Texas Insurance Code section 885.312, members whose membership is suspended can only lose their insurance benefits for non-payment of premiums or if it occurs within the contestable period of the benefit contract and is for material misrepresentation in the application for membership or insurance. Reason: The phrase “for good cause” can be eliminated because the reasons for suspension of membership are stated in the Resolution of Disputes below.

Other lined out information is not needed and was a note in the working document. ARTICLE XV BENEFIT CERTIFICATES

Section 83. Contract. The certificate of membership and insurance or annuity, together with any riders or endorsements attached to it, the application, the declaration of insurability (if any) signed by the applicant, the Charter of Incorporation, and bylaws, and operations manual of SPJST and all amendments to them, constitute the entire contract when it is issued. Any subsequent changes, additions or amendments to the Charter of Incorporation, or by-laws, or operations manual shall be binding upon the applicant member, certificate owner, beneficiaries and other persons affected, and shall govern and control in all respects, except that no changes shall destroy or diminish benefits promised in the certificate when it was issued. Reason: Adding “operations manual” into this Article makes it a part of the member’s benefit certificate. ARTICLE XIX CHAPTER 13 (SPJST Operations Manual) RESOLUTION OF DISPUTES

Reason: The Resolution of Disputes is a procedure, and procedural matters are more appropriately addressed in the operations manual. Therefore, the Resolution of Disputes should be removed from the By-Laws and added to the Operations Manual.

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

7

The purpose of this Article Chapter is to provide a method for fair resolution of disputes consistent with the fraternal nature of SPJST without the delay and expense of formal legal proceedings. Should a formal complaint be brought against any member(s), committee member(s), or officer(s), provisions contained in the current edition of “Robert’s Rules of Order” Newly Revised” concerning formal procedures for fair disciplinary process will be followed except where otherwise provided by these by-laws. Reason: The phrase “current edition” will suffice. The phrase “Newly Revised” is not needed.

(a) On the district level, the district grievance committee will hear all of the evidence, at which time a decision will be rendered by the grievance committee. All grievance proceedings shall be private and the name of the member under review shall not be disclosed in any communication or to any person other than persons whose testimony is necessary in connection with the proceeding and to members of the district grievance committee. (b) The aggrieved member, if not satisfied with the district grievance committee’s findings, may appeal to the district for a hearing before the district membership. Such an appeal must be filed within 15 days after receipt of the notice of action of the grievance committee.

(c) On the local lodge level, the local lodge grievance committee will hear all of the evidence, at which time a decision will be rendered by the local lodge grievance committee. All grievance proceedings shall be private and the name of the member under review shall not be disclosed in any communication or to any person other than persons whose testimony is necessary in connection with the proceeding and to members of the local lodge grievance committee. (d) The aggrieved member, if not satisfied with the local lodge grievance committee’s findings, may appeal to the local lodge for a hearing before the local lodge membership. Such an appeal must be filed within 15 days after receipt of the notice of action of the grievance committee.

Wednesday, April 27, 2016

(e) If this still does not result in a mutually satisfactory resolution, either party has the right to appeal the dispute to the SPJST Supreme Lodge. The Supreme Lodge will follow the current edition of “Robert’s Rules of Order Newly Revised” concerning formal procedures for fair disciplinary process.

It is recognized that differences and misunderstandings sometimes arise. Successful resolution of differences depends on the willingness of the principal parties involved to communicate with each other in order to achieve a constructive resolution. Every effort should be made to resolve lodge and district disputes in an informal manner within the local lodge or district. In the event that a grievance cannot be resolved informally, the SPJST provides an orderly and confidential procedure to deal promptly and fairly with any serious differences of opinion which cause a member to believe that they have been dealt with unjustly.

(a) Local lodges of the SPJST and their officers and members, as well as members of the Supreme Lodge, shall guide themselves according to the charter, constitution, and by-laws of the Society; otherwise, they are subject to penalty for violation and non-observance of them. Members may be suspended from membership for the following reasons, but will not lose their insurance benefit except for nonpayment of premiums and dues:

1. Members who know of the questionable character or bad reputation of the applicant recommended for membership in their Society. 2. Members who are found to be guilty of immoral acts. 3. Members who are convicted of criminal acts. 4. Members who have developed a substance abuse problem and have not sought professional assistance. 5. Officers who are proved to be derelict in their duties may be removed from office, provided complaints are made by members of the local lodge. 6. Members who are guilty of improper conduct and will not adhere to the by-laws, rules and regulations in the meeting.

(b) A grievance shall be a charge by a member that he/she has been adversely affected by a misapplication, misinterpretation, or non-enforcement of an SPJST policy or By-law by a fellow member or group of members.

(c) The grievance must be submitted in writing and signed by the person or persons making the charge. The grievance should be specific and should identify a desired outcome. Anonymous or unsigned grievances will not be considered. The grievance should be addressed to the Supreme Lodge President or any other member of the Supreme Lodge.

(d) The Supreme Lodge member who receives the grievance has the duty to submit the item to the Supreme Lodge at the next scheduled meeting. The grievance will be added to the agenda under “Correspondence.” If the matter is deemed urgent, a special meeting — or teleconference — may be called to order by the President.

(e) The Supreme Lodge President shall appoint a Grievance Committee of at least three Supreme Lodge members who are not directly involved or named in the grievance. The Supreme Lodge President shall serve as a non-voting member of the Grievance Committee. Non- Supreme Lodge SPJST members may also be named to the committee if special knowledge or skills are required. In the event that the grievance involves the Office of the President, the committee shall be appointed by the Supreme Lodge Chairman or another Supreme Lodge member not cited or affected directly by the grievance. (f) The Grievance Committee will consider the grievance, gather facts and contact the complainant if necessary. (g) The Grievance Committee may conduct a private hearing on the matter at which both sides to the controversy may present their case.

(h) It shall be the duty of the Grievance Committee to resolve and/or deliver a ruling on the grievance and to report back to the Supreme Lodge at its next regularly scheduled meeting. Once again, if the matter is deemed urgent, a special meeting — or teleconference — may be called to order by the President.

(i) In the event that the Grievance Committee shall determine that any accusation is found to be unfounded or based on personal spite or malice, the member making the accusation shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Grievance Committee. If such member continues to make such disturbances, then his or her membership may be suspended. (j) If a member is suspended for any

other reason except nonpayment of premiums, dues, and assessments, or misrepresentation or fraud, at the time of admission into the Society, he may keep his insurance in force by paying his or her premiums annually in advance. (k) In the event of a finding of guilt or suspension, the cited member may appeal, in writing, to the Supreme Lodge. Such an appeal must be made within fifteen (15) days after receipt of notice of action by the Grievance Committee. By the same token, the aggrieved member, if not satisfied with the Grievance Committee’s ruling, may likewise appeal to the Supreme Lodge in the same manner as the accused member.

(l) The appeal will be added to the agenda of the next regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge.

(m) The Supreme Lodge shall investigate thoroughly all facts pertinent to the ruling of the Grievance Committee. To facilitate in this process, the Grievance Committee will furnish a transcript of all prior proceedings on the matter to the Supreme Lodge President.

(n) The Supreme Lodge shall sustain, reject and/or amend the ruling of the Grievance Committee and this decision shall stand. If the Supreme Lodge does not rule in favor of the accused, the accused may appeal to the Grievance Committee of the succeeding convention. Likewise, the aggrieved may appeal to the Grievance Committee of the succeeding convention.

(o) All proceedings under these Bylaws shall be private, and the name of the member under investigation shall not be disclosed in any communication or to any person other than to persons whose testimony is necessary in connection with the proceedings. All communications concerning disciplinary proceedings are to be marked “Confidential,”and all disciplinary files are to be maintained in strict confidence.

Reason: The preceding amends Article 67 of the 2012 By-Laws, which deals with member grievances. As rewritten, the Resolution of Disputes empowers the appointed Grievance Committee, clearly providing them with the power to act. It also provides both parties involved in the grievance with much clearer recourse than before. The text which appears in red is new text. The text which appears in black comes from the pre-existing by-law.

By-Law Recommendation

ARTICLE 37 - Vice President (C) The Supreme Lodge Vice President has the right to appoint new sales agents in areas where he feels the need arises and in the best interest of the Society. A local lodge officer must be contacted before appointing a new sales agent for any one lodge. All sales agents must be active in lodge activities, namely, attend the majority of their lodge meetings, and regularly scheduled sales agent seminars. A sales agent must also have the knowledge of what the youth program has to offer to youth, ages kindergarten to high school seniors. The agent must turn documentation in on a quarterly basis to the Supreme Lodge Vice President’s office that verifies the meetings he/she has attended. If the above requirements are not met, the Supreme Lodge Vice President will contact the sales agent in question and redefine his/her responsibilities. If the agent cannot comply with his/her obligations, such agent will not be eligible for any incentives, drawings, bonuses, etc. or special recognition on the district or state level. Reasoning: We are a fraternal organization—not a commercial life insurance company. If an agent is not familiar with or active in an SPJST lodge, he/she does not have the knowledge and first-hand information to pass on to his/her prospect about the organization and all the benefits SPJST provides. Submitted by, Patsy Koslovsky Lodge 47, Seaton —SPJST—

SPJST Membership “Discount Card”

Purpose—Growth of SPJST must be our objective if the Society is to continue to grow and prosper. Growth of Membership Growth of Insurance Growth of Fraternal Benefits Growth of the Lodge System

In order to maintain and go above what other fraternals are achieving for their members, the following proposal should be adopted and put into motion 90 days after the convention:

The Supreme Lodge will initiate a program whereby businesses around the state will be contacted and partnerships formed to promote an SPJST “Discount Card” for all its members. The Supreme Lodge would encourage sales agent to use the “Card” to increase sales and promote the “Card” as a fraternal benefit to use at businesses for a 10 percent/plus discount. District Six Spring Meeting

Sunday, April 3, 2016 • Moravia Parish Hall • Hosted by Lodge 23, Moravia

The District Six Spring Meeting was held Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Moravia Parish Hall in Moravia, Texas. Lodge 23, Moravia hosted the event with 72 members and guests present. After registration and the morning social, Supreme Lodge Vice President Clifton Coufal led the blessing. Alleys Catering from Moulton prepared a delicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Immediately following the meal, President Joe Siptak (4) asked for special reports from representatives of the Czech Heritage Museum, SPJST Education and Nature Center, SPJST Senior Living Centers, and the Cemetery Committees. Philip Vahalik (4) reported on the activities of the Czech Heritage Museum. The Museum Committee members met in January to discuss plans for the upcoming convention. He reminded everyone that the Museum is accepting donations to help with the costs of maintaining the museum. Vahalik reported plans to move the Velehrad SPJST Hall to La Grange close to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center. SPJST will have ownership and plans to make a satellite museum along with a place for lodges to have meetings. Lisa Bubela (30) reported on changes being made to SPJST Education and Nature Center. SPJST is in the process of purchasing the property of the camp in Ledbetter. Before the purchase, SPJST was leasing the camp from LCRA (Lower Colorado River Authority). The ENC committee is planning a “Spring Forward Annual Workshop Day” on Sunday, May 22 at 9 a.m. Each district will tackle one major project. District Six is collecting donations towards the purchase of 50 gallons of stain for the camp housing porches. An estimated $1,200 will be needed for supplies for the staining project. There will be a change in management at the ENC. John Hoelscher has accepted another job, and interviews for the position of camp director are in process. Bubela announced a fundraiser by the SPJST Foundation called “Clean Out Your Barn Statewide Auction.” Proceeds will benefit the Czech Heritage Museum and the Education and Nature Center. The auction will start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17. Charles Bucek (151) reported on

the SPJST Senior Living Centers. The Assisted Living Center and the Taylor and Needville homes are all operating at 95 percent-plus capacity. The grand opening of the new home is planned for July. The Senior Living Centers’ directors purchased the Hillje Catholic Nursing Home in Hillje at the beginning of the year. David Bucek (151) reported on the SPJST Cemeteries. Shiner, Velehrad, and Moravia cost more than the allocated funds to maintain and will be requesting more money from the Finance Committee. The main goal for the Shiner Cemetery is to make a new road. President Joe Siptak (4) called the meeting to order at 1:06 p.m. and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. He asked Lodge 23 President Elizabeth Holub (23) to welcome the membership. She thanked the District Six members for attending and wished them a safe trip home. Second Vice President/Fraternal Activities Coordinator (FAC) Helen Zabransky (4) thanked Lodge 23 for hosting the meeting, for their hospitality, and for the delicious meal. She introduced Supreme Lodge Vice President Clifton Coufal, District Six Director Karen Kaspar, Honorary District Director Mike Ahlstrom and his wife Kathy, State FAC Frank Horak, and District Six Queen Sky Garcia (40) and her Duchess Angelica Manzano (40). Secretary Wanda Dorotik (30) provided copies of the minutes of the 2015 spring meeting and fall family fun day for members to read and approve. Anton Kelner (28) moved to accept the minutes. Ardis Bacak (40) seconded the motion. Motion passed. Secretary Dorotik called the roll of officers, lodges, and standing committees. She reported nine lodges represented at the event: Lodges 4, Hallettsville; 8, Weimar; 23, Moravia; 28, East Bernard; 30, Taiton; 32, Victoria; 40, El Campo-Hillje; 151, Wharton; and 184, Moulton. Treasurer Marjorie Treumer (30) gave the financial report for District Six and reported a balance of $7,185.23. Ardis Bacak (40) moved to accept the report. Debbie Krpec (30) seconded the motion. Motion passed. District Youth Counselor Lisa Bubela (30) reported on district and state youth activities. The youth will have a very busy summer preparing

for Youth Achievement Day (YAD) and camp. District Six youth participated in the district greeting card contest. DYC Bubela presented awards to the youth:

Kindergarten to Age 8 1st - Bethany Baker (30) 2nd - Simone Riha (30)

The committee will be meeting on June 12 to prepare for the convention. Helen Kelner (28), District Six representative on the Publication Committee, reported the cost of the Vestnik is about 46 cents per issue. Special issues include insurance and annuity issue, awards banquet issue, and the Summer Spectacular issue. SPJST provides two beautiful floats for lodges to ride in parades. The Communication Department also allows one mailout each year per lodge and youth club. Glenn Kaminsky (28) represents District Six on the Finance Committee. He reported on requests from organizations for money to be allocated at the convention. He commended Financial Secretary Roy Vajdak for management of SPJST money. He reported SPJST is facing declining membership. Charles Bucek (151) represents District Six on the Insurance Committee. He asked the membership to review the Insurance and Annuity

special edition of the Vestnik which explains the products SPJST has to offer. Supreme Lodge Vice President Clifton Coufal addressed the membership. He reported District Six has over $117 million in certificates. He encouraged recruiting young, new members to SPJST. SPJST is focusing on the declining membership and insurance sales. Coufal recognized all the sales agents and the membership applauded them for their service to SPJST. He acknowledged their importance in carrying SPJST forward. He stated SPJST is reaching out to the membership, and all members will be receiving a birthday card from the Home Office. Coufal presented checks from the Supreme Lodge to the Youth and General Funds. He reported that all orphaned members who are not currently with a sales agent will have an agent assigned to them. Because SPJST cares about families, SPJST has implemented a newborn child benefit for all members and a new product called the newborn guaranteed issue policy. State Fraternal Activities Coordinator Frank Horak recognized all lodge FACs. He explained to the membership how important the records are for fraternals to maintain their tax exemption. Lodge FACs are responsible for recording fraternal and civic hours for the whole year. The annual Corpus Christi Getaway is coming up on August 12 to 14. There are plans for a casino night for adults and a party on the beach. District Six Director Karen Kaspar thanked everyone for attending the spring meeting and thanked Moravia for hosting. Fort Worth Friendship Club

The Friendship Club of Fort Worth met on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, in the dining room at St. Thomas Church. The meeting was called to order by President Margaret Sears, and everyone was welcomed. The theme for the day was spring, and live flower plants were on all the tables with table cloths in spring colors. Thanks, Rose Ann Spann and Lola Taylor — the decorations were lovely and enjoyed by all. Guest John Smith, of the Lake Worth Police Department was introduced as he was the guest speaker.

Lodge 177, Academy gives $1,000 to Ronald McDonald House

Lodge 177, Academy Treasurer Josie Mitchell, right, is pictured presenting a $1,000 donation to the Ronald McDonald House representative.

Secretary Mary Ann Krivanek read the minutes from the last meeting, and Treasurer Jo Ann Wilcox gave the financial report. Both were accepted as presented. Margaret discussed future programs. Barbara Becknell stated she has been in contact with a person that trains service dogs, and she is willing to present a program in May. Barbara stated this person will bring a dog-intraining for demonstrations. This should be very interesting; everyone, be sure to come and bring a guest. The singing of “Happy Birthday” went out to April celebrants - Lydia Alholm, Marie Keller, Paula McCabe, and Rose Ann Spann. May you all have many more. Lydia Alholm is celebrating her 96th birthday on April 30, and she is so proud that her SPJST insurance policy will mature on this day. She will be awarded a certificate by SPJST Lodge 92, Fort Worth. Congratulations, Lydia! April was a designated month in which we bring nonperishable food items for St. Thomas Food Pantry, and in addition to cash donated, there was a “pile” of food items. all that the white elephant sale was being cancelled for April. Guest speaker Officer John Smith of the Lake Worth Police Department was introduced. When he walked into the dining room, he said he felt like he was right at home as he knew so many of our members, and they certainly knew him. One member asked if he was the officer that sits in front of Walmart - and he is. Office Smith gave several instances of attacks at Walmart. He spoke on basic self-defense moves that anyone can do, and that everyone should know. He stated prevention is the best self-defense, always be aware of your surroundings, only walk and park in well-lit areas, keep your keys in hand as you approach your door or car, vary your route and times of travel, and many more such good tips. If anyone touches you, he said “get loud, shout ‘back off’, and push back.” He gave a handout showing the most effective body parts to hit which include the eyes, nose, ears, neck, groin, knee, and legs. He said being attacked is no time to be civil. To maximize damage, use your elbows, knees and head as they are your body’s built-in weapons. This was a most informative presentation. Officer Smith answered lots of questions and gave examples on how to react. We were disappointed that he could not stay for lunch, but he did take a couple pieces of chicken to eat in his car on the way back to the station as he had four text messages to take care of. Since the meeting, I have had many good compliments on the officer and his message. Sunshine Lady Marie Keller reported that she sent a get well card to Paula Arsenault who has not been feeling well. Get well, Paula, you were missed especially by your table mates. Door prizes were distributed, and the 50/50 dollar game was enjoyed. April hostesses Darlene Tompkins and Marie Keller plus all their helpers, were thanked for a super job done. May hostesses will be Debbie Skrasek, Pat McWilliams, and Libbie Vrla. The theme will be Armed Forces Day; colors will be red, white, and blue; and the speaker’s presentation Training Service Dogs. It should be a good program. Don’t forget your dish for lunch, and bring a friend. Following the meeting, grace was said, and a wonderful fried chicken lunch was enjoyed. Games were then played.

News Don’t forget—Lydia Alholm’s 96th birthday is April 30. We have been missing her. Everyone, send her a birthday card. After the meeting last month, I stopped by to visit with Anna Johnson and took her my leftover fruit fluff. Anna said she had enough for three meals, but it wasn’t that much (I believe she eats very little). Anna has not been feeling well lately. She said that it is difficult for her to write, and that she just can’t send birthday cards to everyone as she has done for so many years. She asked that I announce it at the next meeting. Anna also said that she won’t be able to send copies of my Věstník articles to those few of you so I will bring some extra copies to give you at the next meeting. Anna will be celebrating her 96th birthday on May 29. Everyone send her a card. I spoke with Camille Bolcer and apparently, she is doing much better. She said that she has even gone to her quilting meeting. Helen Skrasek is enjoying the visit from her granddaughter. I know one

day they drove to Ennis to visit the cemetery; more about Helen’s visit next month. Helen has so many friends in Ennis, and they always like to know how and what she is doing. I stopped in the other day to visit Betty Landsfeld. It was the day after my Ennis Sewing Circle meeting, and I had taken the fruit fluff. I had a little left over - so I took it to her. If I give my sweet leftovers away, I don’t have to eat it! So Until, Keep Smiling, Libbie Vrla, Reporter —SPJST—

How to make Mother’s Day more meaningful this year

(StatePoint) Gifts and flowers are a nice way to show mom you care on Mother’s Day. But this year, consider adding deeper meaning to the holiday (which falls on May 8) with these ideas:

Volunteer Together After breakfast in bed is wrapped up, spend the day working side-byside with your mom on a local volunteer project. Whether you take advantage of the spring weather and participate in a park clean-up, or you serve lunch at a local soup kitchen, you and your mom will enjoy quality time together, while also feeling good about helping the community. Gifts that Give Back You could forego a tangible gift al-

together and instead make a donation in your Mom’s name to charity. Here’s one worthy cause: There are 153 million orphans worldwide, according to UNICEF, many of whom lack basics like food, water, education and medical care. “In honor of Mother’s Day, consider paying tribute to your mother by helping provide a mom to those who don’t have one,” says Caroline Boudreaux, founder of The Miracle Foundation, a non-profit that improves the way orphanages are run, funded and managed. The international charity is currently raising funds to pay the annual salaries and room and board of housemothers working in orphanages in India. Each housemother acts as a mom to 20 orphaned children in her care, creating a nurturing environment where they can thrive. To honor your own mother or another special woman in your life, consider visiting miraclefoundation.org/mothers to learn more about the campaign and to make a tax-deductible donation.

Use Your Talent Do you sing? Are you a writer or artist? Give your mother a unique creation. From water-colored paintings to a novella starring Mom as the heroine, you can make Mother’s Day extra spe-

cial by gifting something homemade and one-of-a-kind. If your talents don’t lie in the creative realm, a note to your mom expressing love and appreciation for all that she’s done for you is a great standin for a store-bought card. Whatever you decide to do for Mom this Mother’s Day, consider celebrating a little differently. While Mom should still take center stage, you can add a lot more meaning to the holiday by thinking outside the box. —SPJST—

S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living Resident eldest living member of Taylor church

Maureen Tennill, a resident of S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living Community, is the eldest living member of First Baptist Church of Taylor. A few weeks ago, she was interviewed to share the story of the way she was so instrumental in the decision First Baptist Church made to build a new church. Her story kind of goes like this: While sitting in the midst of a church business meeting, Maureen was listening to them talk about building a new church and all that was involved. This was certainly not the first meeting she had attended, and it was definitely not the first time that she heard this subject being discussed among the members. Maureen is not only a woman of integrity and wisdom, but one who will speak up for her church family. So as the opportunity presented itself, Maureen stood up and said, “Let’s quit talking about it and do it. ” Maureen told Pastor Hudson, “It’s

In Memory of Lillie Pall

Lillie Mae Dornak Pall, our beloved Mamaw, passed away peacefully on the morning of Saturday, April 16, 2016. Born in Wharton, Texas, on December 8, 1918, to the late Louis B. and Annie Fried Dornak, she was 97 years young. Lillie Mae and her sweetheart husband Tony lived in Winnie, Liberty, Alice, and Corpus Christi during Tony’s 42Lillie Pall year career with Texaco. After his retirement in 1980, they built a home in El Campo, her childhood hometown, and spent their remaining years enjoying being “home,” close to family and friends. Lillie Mae graduated from El Campo High School in 1934, and while working as cashier at Frels Theater, she met a young petroleum engineer who had been lured to El Campo to play softball for the Texas Company. One of his favorite stories was telling of the day it snowed in El Campo and, while engaging in a snowball fight with a teammate outside the theater, he literally ran into the prettiest girl he’d ever seen! Shortly after their marriage at St. Philip Catholic Church in El Campo, Tony, a member of the Texas A&M Corp of Cadets, was commissioned a Major in the United States Army and stationed in Carmel, California, where both of their sons were born. After the war, they came back to Texas and never left. They spent 65 years together before his death in 2006. Lillie Mae was a homemaker who

enjoyed playing bridge and dominoes, dancing, sewing, and maintaining a beautiful yard. Yard work and driving were the two hardest things for her to give up in her later years. Many in El Campo will remember her for her ceramic workshop where she produced personalized Easter eggs and baby shoes, lighted Christmas trees, and many other gift items. She was a member of SPJST Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje, Catholic Daughters of America Court 1374, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Strugglers Dance Club. Lillie Mae was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father-inlaw Mary and Steve Polanovich; dear husband Anthony Thomas Pall, Sr.; sisters and their husbands Jane and Steve Bezdek, Lorraine and Walter (June) Garrett, Jr., and Evelyn and Sigurd P. Thyssen, all of El Campo; brother-in-law Bill Polanovich and wife Trudy Polanovich Bell; and beloved son Michael Stephen Pall of Corpus Christi. She is survived by son Anthony T. Pall, Jr. of Victoria; daughter Barbara Roy of El Campo; sister-in-law Mary Lou Hollabough of Garland; brotherin-law Paul Polanovich of Bedford; grandchildren Lauran Pall, Anthony T. Pall, III, Ashley Pall, and Allyson Pall Griffin, all of Victoria, and Audrey Russell and husband James of El Campo; and great-grandchildren Mattalynne Pall, Anthony T. Pall, IV, Emmy Lou Russell, Ava Schweke, Andy Russell, and Avery Griffin. As the eldest and last living sister of the Dornak girls, Lilllie Mae is also survived by a bevy of loving nieces and nephews: Gail Autry and husband Charles, Allen Thyssen and wife Judy, Glen Thyssen and wife Lupita, Steven Bezdek and wife Onie, Ken Thyssen and wife Suzy, Gloria Marek and husband Frank, Pat Thyssen and wife

Terri, Susan Easter and husband Dan, and Ann Turo and husband Bill, as well as many great nieces and nephews. Lillie Mae will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, aunt, and cherished friend. Visitation was Tuesday, April 19 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A CDA Rosary was recited Wednesday, April 20 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church with services following at 10 a.m. Reverend Michael Rother officiated. Burial was at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo. Reception followed at Mikeska’s. Pallbearers were Trey Pall, James Russell, Dean Machart, Matt Machart, Steven Bezdek, and Allen Thyssen. Contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Philip Catholic Church. —SPJST—

Dear Věstník, I really enjoyed our youth workshop and outing we had on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at The Racquet Club of Camino Real in San Antonio. I got to

meet a new member from New Braunfels. Her name was Meagan; she fit right in with all of us. Editor/Director of Communication Melanie Zavodny did a presentation on photography which was interesting to listen to and get great ideas on how to take pictures. State Youth Director Lynette Talasek did a presentation on merit points and how much you are able to earn throughout the year. We played

games then went to the Botanical Gardens for an outing. There, we were able to take pictures with our cameras. I took a lot of pictures — even of the story book houses like the hot air balloon made of different color hula hoops with the wording “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss, and Sleeping Beauty’s house. Dear Members, On Saturday, April 16, 2016, District Seven held its Youth Development Workshop at the Racquet Club of Camino Real. After lunch, we asked Vestnik Editor/Director of Communication Melanie Zavodny to teach a small class about photography, and State Youth Director

Lynette Talasek did a small lesson on “What are merit points and how can I earn them.” We would like to extend a big thank you to Melanie Zavodny, David Nauert, and Lynette Talasek for coming from the Home Office to help out with a very successful Youth Development Workshop. After another fun game, the youth made their way to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens for an outing. The youth put the skills they learned about photog-

Information about the alternative/ short name of the Czech Republic Czechia

Most countries use either the formal name (e.g. Commonwealth of Australia) or the short name (e.g. Australia). After the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993, two independent countries were created: the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. While the latter regularly uses Slovakia as its abbreviated name, the Czech Republic has officially been using only its formal name. However, the standardization of the short name in Czech (“Česko”), including in the UN official languages, had already been completed in 1993. The Czech Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Lubomír Zaorálek is planning to put an end to distorting the country’s name in English (and some other languages, too) where many people use the incorrect names such as “Czech,” “Czecho,” “Czechland,” etc. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to submit the short name and its translation to the relevant UN databases. These databases are regularly used by nations, companies and individuals

when in doubt about the correct name of a country. The hope is that this step will overcome the problems faced with the distortion of the name and that the correct terms will dissolve into general knowledge. In short, Czechia is just an abbreviated name to be used in the less formal or marketing communication. It is to be used along with the formal name, the “Czech Republic.” Any existing titles of organizations and institutions, inc. the honorary consulates, will not be affected.
