An Invitation to Join the Foundation Legacy

Dear SPJST Fraternal Members, Please consider this to be your invitation to join the SPJST Foundation Legacy Team. The SPJST Foundation was organized and established in 2012 to operate as a tax-exempt non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The primary purpose of the SPJST Foundation is to assist projects which seek to keep alive the cherished Czech traditions, customs, heritage and language of the SPJST’s forefathers. The SPJST Foundation encourages and supports strong family values, cherished Czech traditions, pride in our community and good stewardship. The SPJST Foundation is seeking Capital Fund contributions to support worthy initiatives, like the Czech Heritage Museum in Temple and the SPJST Education and Nature Center in Fayette County. A charitable legacy gift to the SPJST Foundation will offer a meaningful way to honor your lodge,

an outstanding fraternalist, or a loved one in your life. Sponsorship levels start at $100 and can be made as cash, personal property, real estate, life insurance or as a bequest to your will or trust. A pledge card and an envelope are available for your consideration. Moving forward, the SPJST Foundation will publish SPJST Foundation donors each year in the Vestnik, and invite those individual donors and lodge representatives to the annual SPJST Foundation Donor Recognition Banquet. The first banquet is scheduled for Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the SPJST Home Office in Temple. If you have any questions, please give us a call. Fraternally, Brian Vanicek SPJST Foundation President James L. Lee, III, CPA SPJST Foundation Director of Development

T

hese words are included on hundreds of websites…from those promoting health and nutrition; to personal blogs; to religious-based organizations. But it doesn’t matter who is sharing these words, please note just how true they are. As we grow older, and hence wiser, we slowly realize that wearing a $300 or a $30 watch — they both tell the same time. Whether we carry a $300 or a $30 wallet/handbag — the amount of money inside is the same. Whether the house we live in is 300 or 3,000 square feet— loneliness is the same. Whether we watch television on a 70-inch monster screen or an iPhone, the shows are the same. It doesn’t matter if you drive a car with a sticker price in the six figures or an old, beat-up clunker that you couldn’t pay someone to steal; if you wreck it, you wreck it. You will realize, your true inner happiness does not come from the material things of this world. Therefore, you will realize, when you have mates, buddies and old friends, brothers and sisters, who you chat with, laugh with, talk with, have sing-songs with, talk about northsouth-east-west or heaven and earth — that is true happiness!

Five Undeniable Facts of Life 1. Don’t educate your children to be rich. Educate them to be happy so when they grow up, they will know the value of things - not the price. 2. Best awarded words: “Eat your food as your medicines. Otherwise, you have to eat medicines as your food.”

3. The one who loves you will never leave you because even if there are 100 reasons to give up, he or she will find one reason to hold on. 4. There is a big difference between a human being and being human. Only a few really understand it. 5. You are loved when you are born. You will be loved when you die. In between, you have to manage!

And always remember that if you want to walk fast, then walk alone; but if you want to walk far, walk together! Last, but not least, the best doctors in the world are, in order, sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self confidence, and friends. Maintain them in all stages of life and enjoy a healthy life!

Correction Last week’s Vestnik included the “Seeking the Treasures of SPJST” membership program update. The member referral incentive winners of $25 Walmart gift cards for September were listed incorrectly. They are Kyler Skrabanek of Lodge 47, Seaton; Katlyn Polasek of Lodge 202, Jourdanton; and Patsy Pineda of Lodge 186, Caldwell. We regret the error. Be sure to send your member referrals in to get into the October, November, and December drawings. Three $25 gift cards are awarded each month. Refer your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and family to be members of SPJST. —SPJST—

Member expresses Member invites all Leadership Grant thanks to Lost Czechs of Houston County Dear SPJST, Heritage Day I would like to thank you again for awarding me the SPJST Leadership Grant. This money will enable me to further my education and enhance my college learning experience. A special thank you to my local lodge youth leaders Betty and Rita for always being there to encourage me and to make my time in the youth club more enjoyable. Although I miss attending the monthly youth meetings, I have many years of wonderful memories. SPJST has taught me many valuable lessons that I will carry throughout my life. As I pursue my dreams at Abilene Christian University, I hope to be an example to the youth and continue to support the high values of the SPJST organization. Lodge 15 Buckholts sets October 29 Halloween dance

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

The meeting of SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts was called to order at 5 p.m. by President Williams. Mary Helen Rodriquez led us in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence in memory of our loved ones. All officers were present. In old business, security was reviewed on the locks on the doors making sure everyone had the right keys to the new locks. We reviewed the bookings for the month which includes the Halloween dance which we are looking forward to on Saturday, October 29 from 7 p.m. to 12 midnight at our lodge. We are looking forward to a good time. Old fashioned hamburgers and drinks will be available. We are hoping for a

7

good attendance. In new business, not too much is going on right now. The filters above the grill need cleaning, and the propane bottle needs filling. We decided it best to change the time for lodge meetings from 5 p.m. to 4 p.m. beginning in November; this is so we can meet during daylight hours. The next meeting will be time to elect officers for the coming 2017 year so plan to attend. A delicious meal was served compliments of Sandie Fischer. We appreciated it so much. Sandie Fischer made the motion that we adjourn; motion was seconded by Douglas Williams.

Next Meeting—November 14 The next meeting will be November 14 at 4 p.m. We hope you will be able to attend. Dorothy Tomascik Secretary —SPJST—

Lodge 202 Jourdanton youth shows goats

Dear Věstník, On Saturday, October 1, 2016, I had a prospect show to practice showing my goats. I took one of my two goats - Hercules - and placed seventh with him, but I still had a good time catching up with friends I haven’t seen in a while. I am excited to spend more prospect shows with them and perhaps, bring my other goat Achilles along for the ride. Kelly House —SPJST—

Množné číslo Forming plurals

The nominative plural of masculine animate nouns has, for both hard and soft stems, the ending i, which softens the hard consonants before it.

had—hadi čert—čerti pán—páni voják—vojáci Čech—Češi doktor—doktoři

* * * * *

There are two other endings for animate masculine nouns in the nom. pl. — ové — personal names, such as Václavové, which means several people with the name Václav.

Other examples: Ital - Italové Srb - Srbové (one syllable names) Polák—Poláci Maďar—Maďaři Čech—either Češi or Čechové pán—panové syn—synové člen—členové biskup—biskupové filosof—filosofové

There is much fluctuation in the usage of the plural i and ové. Perhaps one rule of thumb to follow is to use the ové form when speaking and writing formally. * * * * *

It’s a Risk You Don’t Have to Take

riving race cars for a living means going 200 miles an hour around a track with concrete walls. I know the risks, which is why I’ve had life insurance since the start of my career. But that’s not the only reason I own it.

But so many people are taking an unneccessary risk by not protecting their families with that financial safety net. It means your loved ones would suffer financially if something happened to you.

As teenagers, both my parents lost their fathers. Neither had life insurance. My mom was one of five kids, and remembers her mom having to sell off most of the family farm as a result. So my parents made sure they had coverage to take care of my sister and me in case something happened to them.

It’s time to protect your family’s financial future. Get life insurance. It’s affordable; it’s doable and it’s the right thing to do for your family. For help, go to www.lifehappens.org. Let’s get it done.
