Johnnie I. Krajca lived, loved polka SPJST Lodge 25, Ennis icon was one-in-a-million
The Ennis News • July 19, 2017 Used with permission from The Ennis News. By Mark Warde
Johnnie I. Krajca, the personality and voice of Ennis for nearly a half century, passed away at his farm on Saturday, July 15. Known throughout the area and as far as KBEC 1390 AM airwaves would carry, he was an icon for polka music, Czech culture, and the Ennis community for decades. Calling him a true legend in North Texas in the polka industry, Danny Zapletal says he hosted a radio show every Sunday for 48.5 years. A mainstay from 9 to 11 a.m., he spent the majority of those years at KBEC in downtown Waxahachie and a couple of seasons on the air for KAND 1340AM out of Corsicana. “As a person, he was always positive and was loved by everyone,” added Zapletal. “Johnnie was excited about polka music. In fact, it could be pouring down rain outside, but he would make a point to tell listeners, “It’s a beautiful day when you’re playing polka.” “He loved playing polka, and he loved being on the air,” stated Zapletal, who succeeded him on KBEC’s Polka Party. “I got to be the lucky one who followed him.” Visitation was from 6 to 9 p.m. on
Thursday, July 20 in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel, with rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was at10 a.m. on Friday, July 21 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. He went by his middle initial as his radio name since there was someone else in the area with the same first and last name. “I have been shocked by the outpouring of responses from people on the radio,” said Zapletal. “There were so many people who lived to listen to his polka show. He had a huge following. Johnnie will definitely be missed.” Krajca (CRY-cha) played a myriad of musicians, bands, and orchestras. He promoted polka, waltzes, Czech shows in the area, and ethnic music, says Jimmy Zabojnik. “I got to work with him on the air, doing whatever needed to be done in the station,” he said. “I’d say his show reached a peak about eight years ago. He had a big audience. It was kind of like going to church, it was every Sunday. We listened to the show after church.” Zabojnik appreciated how Johnnie I supported all of the local bands, including the lodges and organizations. “It seemed like he was everywhere, always there, always positive. I grew up listening to him,” he continued. “He

My name is Jonathan Dylan Hester, and I was a recipient of the 2017 SPJST General Undergraduate Scholarship. I would like to start this letter by saying thank you for the scholarship. This scholarship will be used to help pay for books and tuition. Without this scholarship, it would be difficult to pursue a degree in agricultural business, while attempting to get my education certifications. The past two semesters, I have been recognized for being on the dean’s list at Texas Tech University. Scholarships are a huge advantage for first generation college students like myself, since I was unsure of how expensive college truly is. Organizations like SPJST help make college students’ dreams come true, and on behalf of all scholarship recipients, I would like to say thank you! Sincerely, Jonathan Dylan Hester Lodge 230, Midland —SPJST—

probably touched every band in the area. I’ll never forget what he did for the community.” Jared Prachyl, 29, has been a member of the Ennis Czech Boys for a dozen years. His sentiment represents a younger generation. “Johnnie would do anything for you and for Czech music,” he said. “He was outstanding in his support for bands and the culture, and he did it until he couldn’t do it anymore. He was a man of impact.” Prachyl recalled when his young band produced their first live recording, and then presented it to Johnny I.

Talent competition begins at approximately 11:45 a.m. Young people who have completed kindergarten to high school senior will compete in dance, vocal, instrumentals, and dramatics. The Ceska Beseda dance exhibition will be performed prior to the beginning of the talent competition. Scholarships totaling $11,500 will be presented to SPJST youth members during the day. This year’s food category is pies. Following judging, pies will be sold in a silent auction to the highest bidders. All proceeds will go to the SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC) at Cooper Farm and the SPJST Scholarship Fund. A kolache and punch reception honoring the youth will be held prior to the State Royalty competition. 2016-2017 State King Colby See and State Duke J. Beaux Hruska, both of Lodge 9, Snook, State Queen Amanda Hoggard of Lodge 202, Jourdanton, and State Duchess Rileigh Kitchen of Lodge 185, New Braunfels will then preside over the 2017 SPJST State Royalty Competition which begins at approximately 2:30 p.m. The king and queen are selected on the basis of a prepared three-minute speech during which they are scored on content, delivery, and overall poise. They are also scored on onstage interview questions. King and queen candidates are high school-aged SPJST youth club members. The 2017-2018 State King and Queen will represent SPJST at events across Texas. They will also each receive $1,500 scholarships. For more information about the SPJST Youth Program or State Youth Achievement Day, call 254-773-1575. —SPJST—
“We asked him if he would play it,” Prachyl said. “He did, though he wasn’t all that impressed. He had a neat way of letting you know, too. He was up front and he’d say, “You boys can do better, I just know it. So keep going at it.”” He said their next recording was improved and that Johnny I said, “That’s much better. You see, hard work and determination pays off.” “He was great to us,” Prachyl said. “We still owe a lot to him. He’s one in a million. He broke the mold.” Johnnie I’s legend lives on through polka, the Ennis Polka Festival, the lively lodges, and the weekly broadcasts. He was larger than life to many, and, as Zapletal says, “he was always putting happiness in other people’s lives.” —SPJST—

President Bridget Bohac called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance and the “Lord’s Prayer” for Hollie Rollie, VJ Hadja, Hortense Svehlak (all who recently passed away), Norma Cavanaugh, Tracie Ging, and Rita Marburger’s grandson Brayden (all who are experiencing health problems). Secretary Jvonne Elwood called roll; Youth Leader Emilie Tischler was absent. Jvonne then read the minutes from the June meeting. Brenna Bohac motioned to accept the minutes, and Ed Stoll seconded. All were in favor to accept minutes. Correspondence received was a letter from the City of Granger with information on back flow prevention. Brenna gave the financial report: $805.35 in expenses; $550 in rentals; and $7,969.60 is the balance. Brenna reported that July is showing to be a slow month for rentals, as was June. Upon researching last July’s rentals, Brenna found that the majority were non-reoccurring events like baby and bridal showers instead of annual reunions. Bridget’s FAC news consisted of the membership drive, the Corpus Christi Getaway, the adult camp retreat, and State Youth Achievement Day. For old business, David Kerlin informed us that he installed two new windows and only has one more to go. He also suggested leaving one window as an actual working window to promote airflow. Speaking of airflow, David shared with us that while attending a function at the hall, the new air conditioning units made a considerable difference in battling the heat! Yay! Last month, a discussion ensued on whether to or not to let the senior citizens use the hall for their weekly gatherings. Clarification was given on the status of the current gathering location. Chris Warren, who provides said location, informed us that there was never any intention to close the meeting place and are still more than welcome. Continuing with old business, the issue of installing a baby changing station was discussed. Upon taking measurements, it was found that there is no suitable place for installation of a wall mounted unit. It was decided to give the matter further consideration as to type of changing table as well as possible alternative locations. Moving on to new business, mem-
bers discussed turning a portion of the upstairs into an office. Currently, files and important documents are being stored in numerous locations. Bridget suggested converting a section of the upstairs to house these items. Members thought this was a good idea, but it was not officially voted upon. Doris Bell made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Jvonne seconded, and all were in favor. Fraternally, Jvonne Lalla, Secretary

Lodge 84, Dallas members enjoy lakeside picnic
Dear Readers, Lodge 84, Dallas held its July meeting at the lakeside property of President Justine Yeager on Sunday, July 16, 2017. It was an informal meeting, and most items were postponed until the next meeting which will be held on Sunday, August 20 at the lodge hall at 2 p.m. A big thank you to the Andreason brothers for their cooking talents; the brisket, klobase, and beans were delicious. The sides and desserts brought by all those in attendance added a tasty variety to the menu! It was a nice, lazy day to just sit back and relax and enjoy the company. Even the brief rain shower did not dampen the day although I think it had something to do with the fish not biting. Attempts by several who tossed their lines into the lake did not land the “big one” although a baby catfish did manage to get the bait off two lines. Of course, he was released back to grow bigger for the next time we come to the lake! Thank you to President Justine Yeager for generously allowing us to come and enjoy your lake property for the day. It is always nice to get out of the city and enjoy the country life. A reminder to everyone that our next meeting will be Sunday, August 20 at the lodge beginning at 2 p.m. Please make plans to attend.

Libbie Vrla will pick it up. The theme will be Hawaiian so wear your Hawaiian outfits. Entertainment will be by a group of ukulele players. This should be a fun meeting. Also, August is a designated month in which we bring non-perishable food items for St. Thomas Food Pantry. We are all saddened to learn of the death of one of our new members, Judy de Grandchamp, on July 10. The memorial service was held on July 23 at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Azle. Thanks to our telephone committee of Elizabeth Creamer, Lorraine Cross, and Helen Skrasek for notifying everyone. Heartfelt sympathy goes to Judy’s family. She will be missed by everyone at the Friendship Club. Judy was a dear friend and neighbor to Rose Ann Spann. I recently had occasion to visit with three of our homebound members. I stopped in to see Betty Landsfeld. Betty is originally from Ennis so we always have so much to talk about. She certainly enjoyed the Liska family reunion recently. Betty still lives at home, uses the walker, has home health care, and is looking good. I took her the section from the Ennis Daily News that had photos of the senior class as I did notice a couple of Liskas. I didn’t know them, but Betty said they are relatives. One day when I was in the Bryant Irvin area, I stopped in at the Sun Rise Senior Living home for a visit with Camille Bolcer. She had a stack of microwave cloth holders ready to sew. Can you imagine still sewing at age 100 1/2! She has her sewing machine and ironing board up with swivel chair in between. This is where she reads the newspaper and uses the ironing board as a cutting board and as a desk. She can also look out the window and watch the birds at the birdfeeder. In the kitchen area on a shelf, she had four large sacks of bird seeds. She makes sure the birds are well fed. Then one Sunday, I stopped in to see Frances Matthews at the Wellington Retirement home. Of course, the Ranger game was on so we didn’t do much talking. She loves reading the Star Telegram cover to cover each day, and the rest of the time, she watches sports on television. She does go downstairs to play bingo. Other than a little arthritis, Frances is looking good and feeling well. Her sister Lydia Alholm was out for the afternoon so I didn’t get to visit with her. She still makes her monthly trips to WinStar. She was a big winner on her last trip. I am glad she continues

to support our government with her taxes. I certainly did enjoy my visit with all three of these lovely ladies. Get well wishes go to Adele Strand who spent several days in the hospital, but she is home now. Guess Harold is doing all the cooking and acting as a nurse. Adele, get well soon. We hope to see you and Harold at the August meeting. Harold’s son plays in an Alpine band, and it played at SPJST Lodge 92, Fort Worth one recent Sunday. Helen said the Skrasek’s were going and invited me to go and listen to the music. Harold’s daughter brought him. Adele was not able to come so all of us had an enjoyable afternoon of visiting and listening to the music. Tracy Horn enjoyed the Luza-Matous family reunion in Bryan. She said she enjoyed visiting with all the family and was so glad that Kathy Pottkotter came. Kathy is Arnold and Helen Vrla’s daughter. The first time I met Tracy, she said we were indirectly related. Her cousin Helen Vrla, Jr. is married to my cousin Arnold Vrla. (Yes, Vrla married a Vrla - no relations.) Tracy said that she has not seen Kathy since she was a small child. Kathy’s brother Danny was not in attendance as he was in Ireland playing golf. Update on “Wip” on the Appalachian Trail My nephew Travis is over half way on the Appalachian Trail. He observed the thru-hiker tradition of eating a half
gallon of ice cream. All thru-hikers do this after achieving the halfway point. Last account, he is 1,294 miles in with approximately 825 miles to go. I talked to him by phone the other day. He sent an email that he would be in town all day, doing laundry, mailing his bounce box forward, sleeping in a bed (four hikers always share a hotel room and pool their laundry into one load), replenish their supplies, etc. and for me to call him, which I did. He said the hike through Pennsylvania and New Jersey was slower due to sharp, pointed rocks. He also has the Garmin inReach Satellite Communicator so we are able to track him on the computer. He said water is plentiful on the trail, and he uses the Sawyer Filter to dip water out of a stream which purifies the water. If the water still looks questionable then he adds the pill and you have to wait 30 minutes before drinking. It seemed that he was always too tired to cook so he sent his stove home right from the beginning as it took too long to boil the water for any dehydrated food. He said he eats cold food, buys soft tortillas and rolls them with pepperoni, peanut butter, or tuna that you can buy in small bags, etc. He carries powdered milk to mix with water for his breakfast. He has lost weight and had to buy some smaller trousers, but they only change clothes when in town, after a shower, and not on the trail. He is now on his third pair of shoes. When his parents mail a box or new shoes to him, I always finish filling
them with food items and energy bars. See you on August 2 at the new St. Thomas Church Community Room. Remember, this time you have to bring a side dish to share, and non-perishable food items for St. Thomas Food pantry.

Well, everyone, that’s a wrap! I had my last public appearance at the Belton Fourth of July Parade. It was a lot of fun and, gee, was I glad it wasn’t hot! I would like to thank everyone who has made my appearances memories that will last forever. “Can’t Stop This Feel-
ing” by Justin Timberlake will be stuck in my head forever! If I weren’t State King, I wouldn’t have been able to experience all of these parades and bonded with everyone in our little group. Colby See —SPJST—

Under new business, Youth Leader Lynda wished good luck to all youth going to District Three Camp, and she encouraged them to have a fun time. She reminded everyone about the lake-
side picnic that was to be held on Sunday, July 16 at President Yeager’s. She also reminded everyone about the upcoming Corpus Christi Getaway event. We also completed our Vestnik projects and cookie decorating project while we waited for Mr. Richard Sanchez, our guest speaker, who did a presentation on the American flag and its relationship to Memorial Day. Mr. Sanchez demonstrated the proper way to fold the flag and the purpose for the folds and points. It was very informative and enjoyed by all.
Next Meeting—August 16 The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 16 at Hurricane Harbor. This is a district outing so look for information in the Vestnik or on the District Three Facebook page. Fraternally, Kendall Tucker —SPJST—

Dear Vestnik Readers, I had a great time at Sea World San Antonio this summer. Not only did I get to ride the newest roller coaster called the Wave Breaker, I also got to see the newest baby Orca (killer whale) that was born at Sea World this past April. It sure was one big baby! Sincerely, Megan Ohnheiser —SPJST—

In Memory of Betty Jean (Orsak) Hubenak
Mass of Christian burial was held for Betty Jean (Orsak) Hubenak at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Monsignor John Malinowski officiating at the service. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 4 with a rosary at 7 p.m. all at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas. Betty Jean Betty J. Hubenak (Orsak) Hubenak, age 82, born on October 21, 1934, was welcomed into our Lord’s heavenly home on Sunday, July 2, 2017. Betty lived in Caldwell until her marriage to Elton Hubenak in 1952 and became a lifelong resident of Snook in Burleson County. Betty was born to Charlie Orsak and Girlean Theuber Orsak Hales in the San Antonio Prairie Community. She had one brother, Larry Simon Orsak, who is deceased. Betty, known to generations of school children as “Mrs. Santa Claus,” had given freely of her time to the pleasure of many so that everyone could enjoy the holiday season of Christmas. She missed only one Christmas holiday due to a heart attack in 1991. She said she has been blessed to have been able to see the expressions on all her grandchildren’s faces as well as hundreds of others when she arrived with Santa Claus at their classroom doors. While raising three daughters, Betty decided to expand her education and acquired a cosmetology license which enabled her to open and run a beauty shop at her home for more than 25 years. Along with being a young business woman, Betty was active in various clubs and served on committees and held office such as PTA secretary and president; Snook Young Homemakers Club president; chairperson of the Burleson County Cancer Society of Snook and surrounding areas for more than 10 years; and mistress of ceremonies for the little miss contest and cochair of the queen’s contest of the Burleson County Fair for a number of years. Betty also worked with the pres-
entation of the Snook Womanless Wedding (of which Elton, her husband, was a maid of honor), PTA variety shows, designed and helped construct PTA, FFA, and Snook Lions Club floats which were entered in the Burleson County Fair Parade, Bryan Christmas parade, Giddings parade, SnookFest parade, and others for more than 30 years. Betty also served as a room mother throughout all three daughters’ elementary years, and chaperoned many school trips, homemaking activities, girls basketball and cheerleading outings. She also chaperoned many SPJST youth club activities such as youth camp and traveling with the beseda dancers’ group that her daughters were members of. Betty was also an original member of the Burleson County ladies softball team, hanging up her glove in 1987, when her last granddaughter was born. She also served as a chairperson of the Texas 1986 Sesquicentennial Celebration and Snook Festival and Parade. The Snook committee raised monies to furnish the dining room at the Kraitcher Room in Caldwell with historical furniture. This dining room was then named “The Snook Room.” In 1972, Betty received the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from the Snook FFA Chapter. In 1974, she was named Homemaker of the Year by the Burleson-Lee County Soil Conservation District. Betty worked out of her home in a part-time capacity and later became a full-time employee for the City of Snook. During this time, Betty received her certificate from the Texas Municipal Clerks Certification Program as city secretary for the City of Snook for 27 years. She was selected Burleson County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 2006, Snook EEA Club Member of the Year in 2005 and 2006, and served as council member of the Burleson County Extension Educational Association Council. Betty was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society and St. Mary’s Women’s Club. She was active at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Caldwell, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She helped organize and oversee the gift shop at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In 2007, the National Fraternal Congress of America recognized Betty as a Fraternal MVP. She served as treasurer of the Catholic Family Fraternal of Texas (KJZT), Our Ladies of Lourdes, Society No. 27 of Caldwell. Betty was a member of SPJST Lodge
9, Snook. She was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club (FCE) of Burleson County and the Burleson County Historical Society having served as secretary and enjoyed working with First Friday luncheons. Her hobbies included working with flowers, cooking, dancing, sewing, her felines, and traveling with Snook EEA Club, where she organized chartered motor coach trips for many years with buses full of travelling companions. She was an active member of Snook EEA Club receiving a certificate for 35 years of service in 2017. Betty was a kind and generous woman. Family was the most important aspect of her life. She loved deeply and completely. She was preceded in death by husband Elton of 63 years; parents Charlie Orsak and Girlean Theuber Orsak Hales; brother Larry Simon Orsak; and in-laws Willie and Olga Hubenak. Betty is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Dianne and Frankie Jaster, Sharon and Charles Wood, and Cynthia and Wayne Nedbalek; grandchildren Cyndi Wood-Zwernemann, Brandon Jaster and wife Deana, Amber JasterSee and husband Travis, Creighton Jaster and wife Christie, Travis Wood and wife Morgan, Brent Nedbalek and wife Amanda Marie, and Amanda Jo Nedbalek; great-grandchildren Preston Zwernemann, Wyatt See, Trey Cline, Zoe Zwernemann, Michaela Jaster, Elizabeth See, Abby Cline, Lucas Jaster, Ryan See, Samuel Jaster, Anna Cate Jaster, Greyson Nedbalek, Lawson Nedbalek, and Jacob Wood; as well as nephew, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and special friends. In Memory of Vaclav J. Hajda
Vaclav John (V.J.) Hajda, 94, of Taylor and formerly of Granger, passed on to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. A Celebration of Life Mass was held on Friday, June 23 at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger with the Reverend Isidore Vaclav J. Hajda Ndagizimana and Reverend Hilario Guajardo officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery. V.J. was born on April 22, 1923, and was one of six children born to Louis and Rosie (Nemec) Hajda. V.J. grew up on a farm west of Granger where his parents instilled a deep faith in God and love of farming. When asked why he chose to be a farmer, V.J. said he loved working the land and watching plants grow from the time the seeds sprouted until their maturity. He and wife Margie worked hard side by side to keep the land they farmed free of weeds in order to ensure that with God’s help the crops would be bountiful enough to support their family. V.J. proudly served his country as an infantry marksman in World War II under General George Patton. During his service from August 26, 1943, until January 10, 1946, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Two Bronze Campaign Stars, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Combat Infantryman
Badge, Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Ribbon, and Good Conduct Ribbon. During his active military service he was given the nickname “Tex.” He said when it was time for mail calls, it was common knowledge that “Tex” would have several letters from home because his sweetheart, Margie Kurtin, wrote him a letter every day while he was gone. After his honorable discharge, V.J. returned to Granger and married Margie on February 26, 1946. V.J. and Margie shared 65 precious years on their farm raising their four children. The arrival of grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought them so much joy. Each grandchild and great-grandchild was cherished by Margie and V.J. in a special way that created an eternal bond of love with them. He was a member of SPJST Lodge 20, Granger. He was a lifetime member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He was also a member of Granger Knights of Columbus, serving as treasurer and as a trustee, KJT, SSCM Czech Choir in the early 1960s and 1970s, and the SSCM Senior Choir. He also served as a director of the Granger Blackland Coop Gin. After the death of his wife Margie, he joined his sister Marie Repa and cousin Albert Hajda at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living facility in Taylor. There, he embraced the next phase of his life, made new friends, enjoyed riding his scooter, gardening, listening to Czech music, playing dominoes, bean bag baseball, bingo, and taroks, caring for his flowers, and spending afternoons with fellow domino players at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living. In recent weeks, he learned to play Crazy 8s and enjoyed teaching this game to his family and friends. When he wasn’t tinkering with his radio, television, and DVD player to ensure he got the best reception possible, he kept busy with his hands finding innovative ways to make his apartment comfortable and convenient for his needs. If he had been born 50 years later than he was, we feel he would have been an engineer with many patents to his name. V.J. was preceded in death by his wife Margie (Kurtin) Hajda; parents Louis and Rosie (Nemec) Hajda; sisters Angeline Repa, Marie Repa, and Agnes Bohac; and granddaughter Deborah Rose Hajda. He is survived by children Wesley Hajda, Jr. and wife Henrietta, Theresa Hajda and Jerry David, Michael Hajda and wife Sally Hajda, and Anne Shirocky and husband Alan; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren David and Deborah Hajda and children Colby, Callen, Caige, Cash, and Colt,

Julia and Tyler Klotz, Michael and Danielle Hajda and children Zyton, Sydney, and Nixon, Sarah and Harrison Druesedow, Matthew and Kody Hajda and children Maize and Missy, Alana and David Tomczyszyn and son Conley, and Andrea Shirocky and fiancé Mitch McDermott; sister Martha Cervenka; brother Louis Hajda, Jr. and wife Loretta; sisters-in-law Agnes Kurtin and Lydia Kurtin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Mass intentions for V.J., Honor Flight Austin, or your favorite charity. He resided at S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in Taylor from January 2012 until the day of his passing. He loved his home there and all his friends, and several relatives who resided there as well. We are very happy that he had the opportunity to spend his elderly years with such great, caring people and are thankful for the beautiful facility and the excellent care he received. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for the exceptional care, love, and support that the staff of the S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living facility provided to our father. We also extend our sincere thanks to the S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living residents who made him feel so much at home during his stay with them. We thank Reverend Jairo Sandoval for answering V.J.’s request several years ago to celebrate Mass every month at the S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living and we also thank the Eucharistic Ministers for their weekly visits. His daughters, Anne Hajda Shirocky and Theresa Hajda of Granger —SPJST—

In Memory of Frank Praslicka
Frank Roy Praslicka was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on September 9, 1935, to Frank and Ella Praslicka. Frank married his high school sweetheart Theretta Stapp on July 15, 1955. Both were graduates of Diamond Hill Jarvis in Fort Worth. Although Frank had earned a scholarship in track and field to North Texas State Uni- Frank Praslicka versity (now UNT), he was in love and chose marriage and career over college. He started his career in Fort Worth with the federal government at FAA as a draftsman, and over time became a real estate specialist with GSA. Frank had a long and very successful career with GSA, retiring in 1996 with a combined 40 years of service. Frank and Theretta started their married life in Fort Worth. They later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for a few years before moving back to Texas. Frank and Theretta along with their children Bron and Kim moved to the small country town of Keller, Texas, in 1967. Frank was quick to get involved in the community by joining the Keller Lions Club where he became a lifetime member, having his turn as president along with holding many other positions over the years. Frank was also elected to serve on the Keller ISD school board for 13 years, five of which he served as president. The family also became active members of Keller First United Methodist Church. Those who had the chance to see Frank polka or waltz would have no trouble identifying his Czech heritage. He and Theretta were proud to say they have been dancing on the floors at SPJST Lodge 92, Fort Worth - National Hall for 65 years. Frank’s parents Frank and Ella Praslicka were early members of Lodge 92. Frank often shared memories of how as a child he would run and slide across the dance floor with the other children whenever the band took a break. Frank and Theretta were proud to carry on the Czech tradition with all of their children and grandchildren being members of Lodge 92. The other thing Frank gained from his Czech heritage was his love of laughter! Family gatherings were always full of joy and love when Uncle Frankie - as he was fondly known by his nieces and
nephews - was there. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother Willie Praslicka; sisterin-law Margie Praslicka; and sister Eldora “Dodie” Teems; father and mother-in-law Tom and Leona Stapp; and brother-in-law Dr. Charles Rice. He is survived by wife Theretta; son Bron and daughter-in-law Teri Praslicka; daughter Kim and son-in-law Keith Bland; grandchildren Brianne and husband Jonathan Pond, Brice and Bryton Praslicka; Cody and wife Heather Bland, Nikki and husband Wylie Wood and Nash Bland; brother-in-law Mickey Teems and wife Shirley; sister-in-law Theressa and husband James Clark; sister-in-law Tanya Rice; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and greatnephews. —SPJST—
