wjyb Good Eats byjw Stuffed Cabbage Crown Georgia Fitzhugh Lodge 25, Ennis 1 pound ground beef 1/3 cup flour (for meat) 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 egg 1 cup milk 2 Tablespoons grated onion 1 large cabbage 2 Tablespoons margarine 2 Tablespoons flour for gravy Combine ground beef, the 1/3 cup flour, salt, pepper, and egg in a large bowl. Using an electric mixer, beat until blended then gradually beat in milk, a Tablespoon at a time until smooth and pastelike; stir in onion. Trim off outside leaves of cabbage. Cut off a slice about an inch thick from core end; set aside for next step. Cut core from cabbage with sharp knife then hollow out cabbage to make a shell about a half-inch thick. Chop cut-out pieces

coarsely and cook separately to serve along with stuffed cabbage, or save as a vegetable for another day. Spoon meat mixture into shell; fit cut slice back into place. Tie lightly with string. Place stuffed cabbage, core-end down, in a kettle; pour in boiling water to cover about 3/4 of the way; cover. Simmer 1 1/2 hours, or until cabbage is tender. Lift from water with two large spoons. Keep hot while making gravy. Pour 1 1/2 cups of the liquid into a 2cup measure; discard any remaining liquid. Heat butter or margarine just until it foams up and turns golden in a saucepan. Remove from heat; add flour gradually to make a white sauce gravy. From Mama’s collected recipes.

Lodge 20, Granger to host 4-H club camp President Bridget Bohac called the June meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The “Lord’s Prayer” was said for deceased members and for all those in need of an extra prayer or two. Secretary Jvonne Elwood called roll; all officers were present. Jvonne then read the minutes from the May meeting. Brenna Bohac made a motion to accept the minutes as read, and Doris Bell seconded. All members voted to accept the minutes. All correspondence received for the month were letters detailing the transition of First State Bank Central Texas to BanCorpSouth. Brenna gave the financial report. Old business consisted of an update on the 4-H club’s request to use the hall for its summer camp. It was decided that the club would rent the hall at a discounted rate for three days during June. The camp will be held June 19 to 21. Unfortunately, SPJST camp will be at the same time so no combined community service project with the Lodge 20 Youth Club and 4-H club will be taking place. More old business discussed was that the Lakefest Committee has requested the rental of the hall once again for 2019. All members voted in favor. Brenna made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Jvonne seconded the motion, and all members voted in favor. Jvonne Lalla, Secretary —SPJST—

Lodge 24, Cyclone reports on June meeting Lodge 24, Cyclone met on Monday, June 11, 2018, at Flag Hall amid the wheat fields that were harvested. Yields were in the 50 bushel or better at a good price of around $5 per bushel. Corn fields are suffering as the bottom leaves are drying up. Hopefully, it has been made. Lodge members made 100 blessing bags to go to Feed my Sheep. The material was purchased by the KC Council of Cyclone-Marak, Altar Society of Cyclone, Lodge 24, Cyclone Youth Club, and the lodge. The meeting was called to order at 7:15 p.m. by President Daniel Wilde. He led the Pledge of Allegiance and a silent prayer for our deceased members, our military, and fathers. Margaret had no minutes as they were about the Mother’s Day Barbecue Lunch. Linda Wilde read the treasurer’s report. There were no questions. Bar report was by Brenda Maddux. Brenda gave the fraternal report: Flag Day is June 14; Corpus Christi Getaway is August 10 to 12; member referrals; YAD is on July 14; and Father’s Day. Discussion was held about the meal for YAD. It was decided it will be spaghetti with ground meat, garlic bread, and cookies. Cost is $5. Meal will start at 11:45 a.m.

TCGS hosts national author Peter Vodenka at July 21 event in Caldwell Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) presents its “Life is a Journey, Not a Destination” speaker event on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Caldwell Civic and Visitor’s Center, 103 Texas Highway 21 W. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m. and concluding at 4 p.m. The featured speaker will be Peter Vodenka, author of Journey for Freedom. Mr. Vodenka, currently a successful construction business owner living in South Dakota, will be making his first trip to Texas to share his family’s story about escaping from Communist Czechoslovakia in search of their “American Dream.” Peter relates his coming to America with the reasons our ancestors came - for freedom and better opportunities. They spent 10 years planning their escape and, in 1983 at age 27, he took his wife and two small children on vacation to the Communist country of Yugoslavia, where they successfully escaped across the border to the Western country of Austria. After spending three months in a refugee camp applying for entry into America, they arrived in the United States with $600 in their pockets, the clothes on their backs, and no English skills. The author is also a well-known motivational speaker, strongly drawing on his life experiences living half of his life under government oppression and dictatorship, and the other half living free in the United States of America. This will be a fascinating true story to hear after our individual 4th of July Independence Day celebrations. Two other presentations are also part of the program. Clint Williams, current webmaster of the Texas Research Ramblers Genealogical Society, will discuss “Helping Others Get Restarted on Their Genealogical Journey.” A journey can be halted because of a lack of information or a lack of knowledge or tools needed to proceed on the journey. Mr. Williams will help restart your genealogical journey if you have hit a bump in the road or detour in your research. After retirement, Gladys Valchar, TCGS Secretary, began making plans to take her “bucket list” trip to the Czech Republic to visit the places in Bohemia and Moravia from which her ancestors

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 came. Through her presentation “My Moravian Odyssey,” she will share how her two-week vacation turned into one of six weeks after suffering a fall and breaking her leg and how she navigated three hospitals in Moravia before being able to fly home with a rescue nurse. A silent auction will be held, and TCGS members are reminded to bring items for the silent auction table. A sales table, featuring TCGS publications and Czech gift items, will also be available. Registration fees paid on/before July 12, are $40 for TCGS members/$45 for non-members. Fees paid after July 12, are $45 for TCGS members/$50 for non-members. Registration at the door is $55 for both members and non-members. The registration fee includes a catered lunch. Registration forms are available on the TCGS website (http://txczgs.org). To register by credit card, go to https://squareup.com/store/TXCZGS/it em/registration. You may also send a check payable to TCGS and mail it with your registration form to Carolyn Holub, 2741 Falcon Way, Midlothian,

Texas 76065. For more information, contact Carolyn at 214-577-0029 or cholub1088@gmail.com The next TCGS speaker event will
