Summer Camp Fun David and I had the best time at Camp Kubena with Leaders-in-Training (LITs), teens, DYCs, ADYCs, and chaperones on Monday and Tuesday evenings, June 17 and 18. On Monday evening, the LITs and teens participated in a color chaos activity complete with a glow-in-the-dark game of sand volleyball. So incredibly fun! Tuesday evening was a Hawaiian luau which included a Hawaiian dinner. We very much enjoyed our time at camp. A big shout-out to Executive Director Rob, Programs Manager Paige, and all of the camp staff for their hospitality. And, a very big thanks to our adult leaders for their time and dedication to our youth and the camping program.

case, the term “perfect storm” refers to a usual combination of events that combine to produce an unusually powerful result. In The Next Perfect Storm, Bet-David explains how conditions have combined in recent years to create the next “perfect storm” in the life insurance industry – or to put it in Bet-David’s words, “an industry that’s been ignored for almost four decades.” In the span of 106 pages, BetDavid provides an overview and explanation of how the life insurance industry is a ripe opportunity for young men and women seeking to build a meaningful – and profitable – career. I’ll buy that! I did some checking and ran across a 2015 article in the Insurance Journal stating that “the average age of a U.S. insurance agent today is 59 years old, according to some estimates.” The article went on to state that “as more than a quarter of the entire insurance industry gets ready to sail into retirement in the next three years, the next generation of agency talent – young agents and agency owners in particular – better get ready to step up.” While I don’t know the average age of
our SPJST sales agents, I do know that we do appreciate their efforts and that the Insurance Department is always ready to onboard high-energy individuals with an entrepreneurial spirit. “Fraternalism has survived because it is good and it deserves to live,” say the authors of The Fraternal Sales Training Program. “Its leaders had a keen realization of the world’s need for fraternalism and the power to see into the future . . . A glorious future looms ahead for the fraternal system with even greater opportunities for serving people, if we accept the challenge and live up to our opportunities.” Regardless of one’s age, there are several factors to look for when deciding to get involved as an SPJST sales agent. The key, according to Bet-David, is to know your choices and what you’re looking to do personally. “At some point, we all realize that deep down inside we want to be counted on,” says Bet-David. “I’m a firm believer in the fact that we were created to serve and be depended on. We do better when we’re put in situations that require us to
Are You Ready to Accept the Challenge? The top presenter – and organizer – of the annual Vault Conference is Patrick Bet-David. I heard so many good things about Bet-David from Bradley that I had to learn more! We start questioning our own worth. “The insurance industry reaffirms your personal value and gives you a sense of pride in what you do because without your professional involvement, a family you helped could’ve been left behind not knowing how money works. Hiya! I hope all is staying cool. Our June gathering was a great success. Deborah Rohlack read the thank you letter from the Refuge. We are so grateful that we can help. Thank you, Rubie Volek, for the door prizes. We had a discussion over the financial expenses report for May, and all the items that were completed and the few items that still need to be done. We also talked about celebrating Flag Day and Father’s Day and the summer getaway in August. If you are going to make hotel reservations for the getaway, be sure to do so. Thanks bunches to Carla Krenek for the entertainment. The girls loved the coloring. It was a great idea! Carla dressed up like a bee and discussed the importance of pollination. We need bees
for crops, fruits, flowers, and that yummy honey! Carla also recommended that we all bring a plant so we can do a plant swap. I personally loved this idea. It was lots of fun, and the boys even liked it, too. June birthday celebrants were Jennifer McCarthy, Deborah Rohlack, Alexis Meyer, Troy Oman, Thomas Shawn Oman, Luke Fuchs, Nancy Vayo, Genelle Beck, Danny Canty, Kay Beck Henderson, Paul Gainer, James Henderson, Jana Lynn Pachicano, and Codi Barron. Next Gathering—July 14 The next gathering will be Sunday, July 14. We will be having a planned potluck, and we have a list. Please contact Deborah Rohlack for more information . . . plus, she will be emailing all as a reminder when the date gets closer. We will also be having a themed gathering in July. Please wear red, white, and blue and or anything that is
Ennis Sewing Circle Ennis Sewing Circle met on Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Sokol club room. Several of us arrived at 8 a.m. and stretched Nina Walker’s pretty black and white quilt top. Before you knew it, we had quilters all around. Thank you all for coming early to quilt.
We had 22 members and one guest Kennadee Anderson - Dee’s granddaughter. We are happy to have you; hope you enjoyed us all. We quilted till lunch time. President Irene led us in grace, and we all enjoyed a delicious lunch. After lunch, it was back to quilting, and President Irene called the meeting to order. We all recited the “Our Father” for our sick members, and we recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Dee read the minutes of our last meeting, and Treasurer Dolores gave her report. Both were approved as a read. Ginny read several funny stories that we all enjoyed. President Irene had a moment of silence for Julius Podhrasky - husband of Circle member Bertha. “Happy Birthday” was sung to Anita and Philisee Downing. We wish them both a very happy day. Pat announced that we will not quilt on July 11. We will have a white ele-

We will have a regular lunch. In August, we will be serving sandwiches, salad, chips, and dip. On July 19, Ellis County Quilt Show is being held at Sokol Hall. They have asked if we could bring some of our quilts for showing and set up one at around 1 p.m. If you volunteered, please remember and come. Nina Walker was our 50-50 dollar winner; we are happy for you. Members, remember on July 11, we meet around 10 a.m. Bring your white elephant sale items, show-and-tell items, and cash. We do not quilt, just visit, buy lots of items, and have lunch and a good time. See ya! Always, Georgie Morales, Reporter —SPJST—

Ladies Circle of Lodge 92 Fort Worth This month’s meeting of the Ladies Circle of Lodge 92, Fort Worth took place on Tuesday, June 11, 2019, with 39 members and five guests attending Betty Lloyd’s daughter Cherie Price, granddaughter Chelsey Davidson, and her sons Charlie, Oliver, and baby Reid. Bessie and Garland Ellsworth brought granddaughter Cherish along with her friend Kayla Brookshire. School is out now, and it is so nice to have the young ones in attendance. Cherish is just beautiful, and I’m sure Bessie, Garland, and Aunt Lisa think so, too! President Cathy Simmank opened the meeting by leading the group in the Pledge of Allegiance after which Vice President Janet Basham read an inspirational message given to her by Lydia Alholm. It was entitled, “I Said a Prayer for You Today.” Business proceeded with reports being given, and Marlene Bass announced that she did not send out any get well or sympathy cards this past month. Yeah! Hopefully, everyone

is well and just not telling us if they have special needs. Our focus of the day was to honor our fathers. President Cathy asked if anyone wanted to share stories about their fathers. Theretta Praslicka and Teresa Clay were the only members to come forward to share lessons they learned from their dads. And, as I sit here, I’m thinking about my dad . . . how he left us at an early age and how we never got the opportunity to show how much he meant to us. He was a wonderful dad. President Cathy reminded everyone that we would hold a white elephant gift exchange in July. Each member is asked to bring a gently used item, wrapped and ready to be exchanged. Cathy always figures out an interesting way to accomplish the games we play. She is such a creative, fun person to be associated with, and we all agree that she is a great president and friend. The remainder of the meeting proceeded as hostesses Janet Pappas, Joyce Tesar, and Mary Ann Krivanek were thanked. We appreciated the lunch they set and the food that we shared. Birthdays were then celebrated. Robyn Brownlee and Lisa Ellsworth were serenaded, and Frank Tesar appeared when lunch was served. To all of our members who have June birthdays, we send our best wishes for another year, and we hope to see you soon. The board of directors for the lodge is doing an incredible job of renovating and updating the exterior and interior of the building. Jeanette Tesar announced that Texas Dance Hall Preservation Foundation is bringing bands to local dance halls in North Texas this year. If one looks in the Vestnik, there will be announcements as to dates and times they’re appearing, and charges at the door will be billed as donations to the Foundation. As a little girl, our extended family lived just southeast of Temple. Whenever we went to visit, there was a dance hall that I believe was called Star Hall. I’ve also gotten so old that some of my memories may not be accurate, but I think that was the correct name. I’m wondering if it is still there and being utilized today. Does anyone know? Last of all, five door prizes were given away, and everyone was happy with their “sussies.” Thanks always to those who remember to bring something to share. It’s always fun to see what surprises are in those gift bags.
Time permitted Janet Basham to share some funny stories with us, and she then led the blessing for lunch. The meeting ended, and lunch was served. Bingo followed, and I came home broke. Until next time . . . take care. Respectfully submitted, Joan Simek Shropshire Secretary —SPJST—

The Declaration of Independence is more than just a piece of paper. It is a symbol of our country’s independence and commitment to the idea of freedom. The signers of the Declaration of Independence wanted the citizens of the United States to have a document that spelled out what was important to our leaders and citizens. The people who signed the Declaration risked being hanged for treason by the leaders in Great Britain. Every time we look at the Declaration of Independence, we should think about all of the effort and ideas that went into the document, and about the courage it took for these people to stand up for what they knew was right -- independence!

District Two youth enjoys Express baseball game Vestnik Readers, Sixty-five youth members, friends, and parents enjoyed the Round Rock Express versus Nashville Sounds baseball game on Friday, May 18, 2019. Thank you to youth dad Douglas Galler for making arrangements for getting the good seats for us! A good crowd from Lodge 47, Seaton Lodge 48, Beyersville Youth Clubs were represented. Glad you all braved the showers before the game! It ended up being great weather after all. Many stayed afterwards to enjoy a concert featuring Bob Schneider. The only downside of the night—no foul balls picked up by anyone from SPJST and the score was Sounds 6 and Express 3. It was a great night enjoyed by all! I hope to schedule another game at a time that everyone can attend. Thanks to all who made the night so enjoyable! Patsy Koslovsky District Two Youth Counselor Amber Bartek Assistant DYC —SPJST—
Dear Vestnik Readers, District Two youth, friends, and families had a fantastic summer swim party which was held on Sunday afternoon, June 23, 2019, at Summer Fun Water Park in Belton. Once we arrived, we ran the showers and the misty rain away and headed to the pools, lazy river, slides, and so much more that Summer Fun provides. Many, - of course, no youth - sat under the shaded pavilion to watch those floating by, while others enjoyed the great snacks and drinks brought by the district and those who attended. Thank you to everyone who furnished more than enough food. It was great to see so many joining in on the fun. Members from Lodges 20, Granger; 24, Cyclone; 47, Seaton; 48, Beyersville; 80, Holland; and our dear District Two Director Jesse Pospisil and sweet wife Linda representing Lodge 29, Taylor. Thank you for joining us and for the donation you made toward the party. I left the party with much more than
when I arrived with: a box full of YAD cards! Yeah! Awesome for them to all be turned in on time. Thank you, youth and parents, for being so prompt and making the deadline. I’m so excited to get started organizing and preparing for a great Youth Achievement Day (YAD) on Saturday, July 13 at Lodge 80, Holland! I am loving the summer fun and spending it with our great youth members. Leaders-in-Training (LITs), teens, District Youth Counselors (DYCs), and chaperones from all over the state just shared a wonderful and fun five days at Camp Kubena. I am so proud of District Two’s LITs and teens. I am looking forward to junior camp which begins the Wednesday after YAD on July 17. Take care, and thank you for being a member of our great society - SPJST! Hugs, Patsy Koslovsky District Two Youth Counselor —SPJST—

Our July 20, 2019, TCGS seminar, “Missing: Our Elusive Family MembersMIA’s, Orphans, and Adoptions,” will focus on finding ancestors who are often difficult to find. Program sessions will include “Grandmother’s Trip on the Orphan Train” by Jenna Hayes McEachearn; “America’s 20th Century Wars and the Search for the Missing” by Kenneth Breaux; and “Meeting Birth Family and Discovering Czech Heritage at Age 91” by Linda Fogg. A special presentation will be “Making Traditional Czech Strudel” by Sarah Vitek, who will both demonstrate making strudel and provide it as dessert for the catered noon meal. In addition to these sessions, there will be a sales table offering authentic Czech items, a silent auction, and accordion music provided by Henry Holub.
Also available for the first time will be the new 222-page, hard-back TCGS publication, Památník Čechoslováků. Translated into English from the original Czech version by Martin Pytr and Carolyn Loykasek Holub, this book is a memorial to the Czechs of Texas for the work they carried out in the years 1914 to 1920 to benefit the liberation of their homeland. Included are numerous pictures, an index of Czech National Association branches, and an index of surnames of members, making this not only a beautiful table book, but an excellent resource on Czech history in Texas. You may purchase the $48 book at the event and save the additional $10 shipping/handling fee. Our website, www.txczgs.org, includes a complete list of TCGS-published books under “Store.” Join us on Saturday, July 20 at Caldwell Civic Center, 103 Highway 21 West in Caldwell, Texas 77836.
