SELECTED WORKS | JEREMY OWEN { Design for Sport & Lifestyle }


Hello. The following is a selection of some of my graphic design for the sports & lifestyle sector. The projects feature have been chosen to demonstrate a cross-platform skillset; design for print, web and multimedia. Within each of these categories I aim to show that I am able to work across many different styles and vernaculars, capable of creating and delivering my own original concepts but also working with supplied assets to pre-determined guidelines. All the work featured has been created by me either as a solo practitioner or as creative lead for a team. Each has proven to be successful in communicating directly to it's intended audience, fulfilling the needs of the brief and providing maximum ROI but also offering originality, substance, and memorability along the way.

Involvment:

As a leading action sport and lifestyle magazine Onboard needs graphic design layout that is consistently fresh and energetic to fully reflect the excitement of the activity, lifestyle, and culture.

• Art Direction

My proposal strips the material back to basics by using a classical structure to lay out the elements with a timeless look. Offsetting that is an expressive use of type and image within the constraints of the tight grid to express an irreverant, progressive attitude that is in keeping with the editorial content.

Involvment:

Platform was an attempt to create a UK based skateboard company that eschewed the conventions of a US dominated industry by producing small runs of product that followed their own individual stories and were not the result of a formula driven business model.

• Art Direction

To support the product we built up a buzz around the name using stickers, badges and ‘skate-zone’ hazard tape which were distributed at events, shops and in the street. To promote the first product run goody bags were also made up and given to potential distributors and press. We also sponsored a number of core skate competitions. N.B. The deck appears in Made & Sold (Lawrence King Publishing) a compendium of designers side-projects. It will also is on permanent display at Portsmouth City Museum and will shortly feature in a documentary film celebrating the skateboard scene surrounding Southsea Skatepark currently in production.

Involvment:

Working on a pro-bono basis I have produced a wide range of materials to raise the profile of an internationally reknowned charity working in Afghanistan, Cambodia and South Africa.

• Art Direction

To support their activities they need a constant source of creative ideas to bring their message to life for potential donors in the West, the target audience being the skateboarding community.

• Concept

I have attempted to answer that brief through a range of deliverables that utilise their existing logo and available documentary material but with free reign as to how they are applied.
