Hemos realizado una búsqueda de algunos de los fabricantes de splitboards de todo el mundo y hemos topado con más de 20 marcas especializadas. No ha sido fácil elegir las más representativas y hacer una selección de los modelos más acordes con nuestro criterio. Esperamos que toda esta información os ayude a la hora de escoger el material que más se adapte a vuestras necesidades.
We have researched the splitboard scene around the world, and we have found more than 20 specialized brands. It was not easy to choose the most representative models and make a selection according to our criteria. We hope that this information helps you to choose the equipment that will best suit your needs.
También nos hemos puesto en contacto con riders de diferentes partes del mundo porqué queríamos saber cómo viven el splitboard y cómo lo disfrutan en Japón, USA, Noruega, Austria o Francia, entre otros lugares. El mundo está cambiando, el snowboard de montaña se reinventa y el splitboard irrumpe en la escena del snowboard para quedarse bien asentado. Consecuentemente, ahora sí que lo podemos afirmar: esto no es una moda pasajera de cuatro riders un poco locos; esto es un deporte fascinante que nos acerca a la esencia de la montaña y nos gusta. ¡Esperamos que disfrutéis del catálogo! In addition, we have contacted riders from different parts of the world in order to know how they live splitboarding and how they enjoy it in Japan, USA, Norway, Austria or France, among other places. The world is changing, backcountry snowboarding is being reinvented, splitboarding is bursting into the snowboarding scene and it is here to stay. As a result, we can finally say it: this is not a temporary trend only followed by some crazy riders; this is a fascinating sport that brings us closer to the essence of the mountain, and we like it. NOVEDADES EN KARAKORAM, SPARK, JONES... Karakoram está orgullosa de anunciar la colaboración con Jeremy Jones, reconocido snowboarder de big mountain y propietario de Jones Snowboards. La colaboración combinará la legendaria experiencia en en el backcountry de Jeremy con las capacidades de diseño innovador de Karakoram, con el objetivo de ofrecer productos que cambien las sensaciones en el backcountry para splitboarders de todo el mundo. “Creamos Karakoram para crear material para deportes de nieve en el backcountry que retara a las normas y proveyera un rendimiento más allá de las expectativas. La oportunidad de trabajar con Jeremy en esta experiencia nos dará una perspectiva enfocada a ayudar a llevar a nuestros diseños y nuestros productos a otro nivel. Jeremy es un rider que nos inspira de verdad, y estamos más que ilusionados de trabajar con él como parte de Karakoram”, dicen Bryce y Tyler Kloster, copropietarios de Karakoram. The partnership will combine Jeremy’s legendary backcountry freeriding experience and Karakoram’s innovative design capabilities with the goal of delivering products that redefine the backcountry experience for snowboarders around the world. “We started Karakoram to create backcountry snowsports equipment that challenged the norms and provided performance beyond expectations. The opportunity to work with Jeremy on this journey will bring a perspective destined to help take our designs and products to the next level. Jeremy is truly an inspirational rider and we are beyond excited to be working with him as part of Karakoram,” says Bryce and Tyler Kloster, coowners of Karakoram. Jones had this to say about the newly formed partnership, “Over the last year and a half I have tested the Karakoram splitboard system extensively in some of the most challenging terrain in the world. Spark R&D is proud to announce the newest addition to the family: the BURNER splitboard binding was designed for the rider who wants to point it. Increased support both torsionally and laterally creates a stiffer ride in all snow conditions and will allow the largest of riders to edge with confidence. “It’s the big brother to the Blaze,” says Will. “The difference is in the ankle strap and highback. We stiffened them up for those riders wanting extra support on the descent. If you want to ride through tight trees and ride with a bit more freestyle influence, you’ll probably prefer the Blaze”.

NUEVO FILM: “HIKE 3” SPLITBOARD EN ESTADO PURO.
NEW FILM: “HIKE 3” SPLITBOARDING AT ITS PUREST. Llevábamos dos años trabajando con nuestro proyecto HIKE en los Alpes austriacos, pero después de una mala temporada, la búsqueda de buena nieve nos llevó hasta el norte de Noruega. Bib Pekarek y yo llenamos la autocaravana de mi padre con todo lo necesario para caminar, raidear, surfear y acampar en la nieve, y nos lanzamos a la carretera. Allí completamos el equipo con nuestros amigos esquiadores Stefan Häusl y Björn Heregger y un par de cámaras. Las montañas son increíbles; algunas se elevan directamente desde el mar hasta los 2.000m. Llegar hasta las líneas deseadas puede ser una misión difícil, por lo que hay que estar bien equipado de material, incluidas cuerdas para un posible rappel. Aquí tan al norte, los días se van haciendo cada vez más largos y en una ocasión, nos hicimos la última bajada a las 10pm, antes de levantarnos al amanecer, a las 3am, para nuestra siguiente misión. El tiempo fue nuestro mayor reto, porque cambiaba constantemente y era difícil planificar con antelación. Fue una experiencia increíble, con frustración por el mal tiempo, bajadas de polvo en el bosque y momentos mágicos en un entorno maravilloso... After the last two years of realizing our hike project in the Austrian alps and at the end of a really bad season here in our austrian home mountains our search for snow brought us up to the northern part of Norway. Bib Pekarek and myself were driving up my dads campervan filled up with everything we would need for hiking, riding, surfing and camping out in the snow. Up there we met our skiing friends Stefan Häusl and Björn Heregger to complete our crew of riders plus our camera team of two. The mountains up there are insane, some of them stick right out of the ocean and are about 2000m high. It can be quiet a mission to reach the lines you want to ride so beside some experience and knowledge it is good to bring everything you need for exploring like a rope to rappel into some couloir for example. As days get longer and longer so far north until it doesn’t get dark at all anymore we once had our last run at 10pm before getting up at sunrise at 3am again to hike up for our next mission. The most difficult challenge for us was the weather which was always changing and made it impossible to plan stuff ahead. Lo cierto es que llevamos un año preparando la publicación de nuestro, “Splitboarding Journal” gratuito en papel. Pensábamos que nuestra revista llegaría sólo hasta unas cuantas personas, como si se tratara del diario de una sociedad secreta. Pero la cosa va mucho más rápido de lo esperado. Ahora, de vez en cuando los medios generales nos piden artículos sobre el splitboard. ¡Increíble! Hace un año decíamos “Estaría muy buen si algún día pudiéramos escribir artículos sobre splitboard para revistas de esquí o de snowboard.” ¡Sólo hace un año de esto! “FALL LINE” , la revista de Backcountry más conocida en Japón, dedicó 6 páginas al splitboard, y muchas páginas más al reportaje del viaje de Jeremy Jones a Japón. La revista de backcountry de esquí “Last Frontier” , también se fija en el splitboard porque resulta fácil para subir y es divertido bajar. Es como una avalancha; hay mucha gente muy interesada en el splitboard: prensa escrita, en la web, blogs, Twitter, tiendas reales y virtuales...todos quieren saber más de splitboard. Es como si alguien hubiera hecho explotar el boom del Splitboard
Actually, we have been preparing to publish a free-paper “Splitboarding Journal” for a year. We thought our magazine would be known among a handful people, like a secret society newspaper. But the things goes faster than we imagined. Now we are asked couple times for articles about splitboard by the major medias. It’s amazing! A year ago, we talked like “ It’s very nice if we can write some article for ski or snowboarding magazine about splitboarding someday, isn’t it?”. That was just last year! “FALL LINE” the most known Japanese Backcountry magazine, spend 6 pages about splitboarding. And much more pages for Jeremy Jones Japan Trip Story. “Last Frontier” Ski backcountry magazine are focusing on Splitboard, Because it’s very easy to hike an fun to shred. Now It’s like a avalanche. ATOMIC POACHER FIJACIONES BINDINGS Esta fijación es la guinda del sistema de la Poacher. Una base de aluminio con una pieza de plástico giratorio que nos permite -con la ayuda del crampón- colocar la fijación en el splitboard en modo descenso. El tacto en la tabla es lo mas parecido a un snowboard con la fijación completamente plana. El highback alto y sólido junto a la comodidad de la cinchas completan una fijación imponente y con un atractivo acabado. This binding is the finishing touch of the Poacher’s system. Aluminium base with a plastic revolving piece that allows us, using the crampon, to place the binding on the spliboard in riding mode. The feel on the board is very similar to an actual snowboard with the binding completely flat on it. The higher and solid highback with comfortable straps complete a terrific binding with an attractive finish.
PIELES & CUCHILLAS SKINS & CRAMPONS Atomic incorpora su propio sistema de pieles y cuchillas, pensadas para realizar los cambios de snowboard a splitboard. Las pieles incluyen clip delantero y trasero, para una mejor sujeción adaptándose a unos pequeños encajes del patín. Las cuchillas son pequeñas y ligeras, tienen doble función, por un lado se utilizan para el anclaje de la fijación a la tabla, por otro se encajan en la base de la fijación para ser usadas como cuchilla en caso de hielo o fuerte pendiente. Su capacidad de penetración no es muy elevada y su colocación en caso de emergencia es muy lenta.
Atomic has its own system of skins and crampons, thought to help switching from snowboard to splitboard. The skins have front and back clip for a better fastening fitting to two little marks on the ski. The crampons are light and small, and they have double function. On one hand, they are used to fix the binding to the board, and on the other hand, they have the actual use as a crampon fixed to the board when it gets icy or steep. Their bite capacity it is not really great and their placement in an emergency case is a bit slow.

Cuando te preguntan: - But really, can you hike and ride the Pyrenees? - Sure! Pyrenees is f***ing amazing! Por supuesto! Siempre les alumbras con fotos en la Canal del Cristall, cogiendo nieve polvo en cara norte, propia de Los Alpes. O les pasas el vídeo de la competición del Indomit del pasado año para que alucinen con la calidad de las montañas del Pallars y con el nivel del freeride nacional, que sube a un ritmo de vértigo. Podemos disfrutar de los Pirineos y no solo por su buen clima sino porque también tenemos un sistema montañoso de unos 400x150 Km. que va desde la costa mediterránea hasta el Mar Cantábrico, con cimas de hasta 3.404 m., recorriendo 3 países distintos. Además, la ubicación es privilegiada: recibimos nevadas de múltiples direcciones y debemos adecuar nuestro itinerario con antelación dependiendo de donde vengan. Durante la noche previa, miramos al cielo e intentamos predecir si mañana tendremos suerte para salir o tendremos que abortar el plan. Y todo mientras contemplamos nuestras maravillosas vistas: Collserola y Montserrat, el Pedraforca, la Pica d’Estats o el Aneto… Para terminar, sólo me queda invitaros a que visitéis los Pirineos y que probéis el splitboard. ¡Os sorprenderéis! When you’re asked: - But can you really hike and ride the Pyrenees? - Of course! The Pyrenees are f***ing amazing! Of course! You throw a light by showing them some shots of the Cristal shoot, scoring on the north face powder that could well be in the Alps. Or you show them last year’s Indomit contest video, and blow their minds with the quality of the mountains at Pallars, as well as with the national freeriding level, which is raising at a very fast pace. We can enjoy the Pyrenees and not only because of their mild climate, but also because the mountain range is extended around 400x150 km. From the Mediterranean Sea all the way to the Gulf of Biscay, with peaks as high 3.404 m., through 3 different countries. Moreover, the location is privileged: snowfalls arrive form several directions, and we have to adapt our route in advance, according to the origin of the snow. The previous night, you look at the sky and try to predict if the next morning you’ll have the chance to get out there, or you’ll have to call it off. Our mountains are not at all easy, due to the changing weather conditions which force you to have some meteorology knowledge. We all dream with Alaska or the Mont-Blanc, but we also have precious powder days around here. Splitboarding is awesome. It’s not just about gliding your board with your feet instead of carrying it on your back; but also about enjoying freedom, by yourself or with friends, with sunny weather or a storm, in the middle of Nature, sweating it out. It’s also about eating a sandwich on top of a mountain, having a sip from your flask to warm you up, while enjoying beautiful landscapes: Collserola and Montserrat, the French and the Vic plateau, Pedraforca, Pica d’Estats or Aneto… I’ll wrap this up inviting you all to visit the Pyrenees and to give splitboarding a try. You’ll be surprised! And if the weather is not at its best, no worries: go out and have a drink after dark, and enjoy the fun nightlife around here…great après-ski for sure!
Pirineos Euskadi A los vascos nos apasiona la montaña y los deportes que en general en ella se practican. Hace algunos inviernos, los que practicamos snowboard veíamos con cierta envidia sana como los esquiadores de travesía se adentraban en los valles, foqueando con facilidad, en busca de nuevas líneas lejos de estaciones y remontes mecánicos. Siempre soñábamos con probar esas laderas que sólo la vista podía alcanzar y desde que descubrimos la splitboard esos sueños se han ido convirtiendo poco a poco en realidad. Así pues, ya son 3 los inviernos que hace que no pisamos una estación. El split se ha convertido para nosotros en la herramienta con la que tenemos la posibilidad de explorar la montaña en invierno, donde las temporadas de ski empiezan a finales de noviembre y terminan a finales de mayo o principios de junio.

El splitboard nos ha cambiado la forma de mirar la montaña: lo que antes nos parecía lejano ahora nos parece más cerca y lo que antes parecía peligroso e inaccesible ahora lo tratamos con inteligencia y respeto. La tabla nos proporciona libertad y nos da la satisfacción de saber que ese descenso nos lo hemos currado aportándonos conocimientos en cada salida que realizamos. Podemos caer en los tópicos de siempre: libertad, naturaleza... y la verdad es que los vives, pero hay algo más… ¡Y para sentirlo hay que sudarlo! The Basques have always been very passionate about mountains and all mountain sports in general. A few winters back, the snowboarders in our group watched the touring skiers enviously as they entered deep in the valleys, skinning with ease, looking for new lines outside the radar of ski resorts and lifts. We always dreamed of taking on those slopes that we could only reach with our eyes, and from the moment we discovered splitboarding those dreams have slowly come true. Thus, it’s been 3 winters now since we last stepped on a ski resort. Splitboarding has become for us the tool, which enables us to explore the mountain during the winter time, where the season starts at the end of November and goes all the way to the end of May or beginning of June. Splitboarding has changed the way we look at the mountain: what seemed to be remote, now seems much closer, and what looked dangerous and inaccessible now we deal with it with wisdom and respect. The board provides us freedom and the satisfaction of having earned the descent we just completed, providing us experience and knowledge every time we get out there. We could easily fall into the classic clichés: freedom, Nature…and the truth is you do feel them, but there’s something more to it…and to experience it, you have to sweat it!

Andorra como país, y como territorio montañoso, nos ofrece a aquellos que buscamos un vínculo con el medio natural, un sinfín de posibilidades. A pesar de contar con el dominio esquiable servido por remontes más grande de los Pirineos, existe un creciente número de personas que buscamos más allá del confinamiento de las estaciones de esquí. Buscamos el silencio, espacios vírgenes, salvajes y extremos. El splitboarding nos ofrece todo esto en un territorio donde el acceso a grandes valles y altas montañas es rápido y cómodo. Este, es sin duda, un valor añadido en nuestro país. La facilidad de salir de casa, y en cuestión de pocos minutos, estar foqueando a pie de valle sobre nuestro splitboard. Somos gente que después de muchos años disfrutando de las estaciones de esquí, ahora nos encontramos que tanto el terreno como el entorno no satisfacen, ni cumplen, necesidades y expectativas. Es el reencuentro con uno mismo y el redescubrimiento de nuestro snowboarding de una forma más primitiva, volviendo a los inicios, lejos de colas y remontes para adentrarnos en una aventura en plena naturaleza. Sentir el deslizamiento de las pieles sobre la nieve, la respiración, el premio de un descenso sobre nieve virgen después de un largo y duro ascenso. Andorra goza de un clima muy favorable. Las entradas de norte dejan a menudo fuertes precipitaciones en los valles del Comapedrosa, Ordino, Sorteny y Pas de la Casa, mientras el levante descarga en el sur y este del país. Por otra parte el clima templado nos permite salir y disfrutar de la montaña muchos días en invierno. Sólo queda animaros desde aquí a redescubrir Andorra fuera de lo que todos conocéis.

Andorra, as a country and as a mountain area, offers a wide range of possibilities for those of us who search a link with Nature. Despite including the largest lift accessed ski resort in the Pyrenees, there is an increasing number of people searching beyond the boundaries of ski areas. We seek silence, and pristine wild extreme terrain. Splitboarding provides all this on a terrain where access to wide valleys and high peaks is fast and comfortable. This is certainly an added value in our country: the ease of getting out of the house and in a matter of minutes, finding yourself skinning up on your splitboard. After plenty of years enjoying ski resorts, we now realize that neither the terrain nor the environment fulfill our needs or expectations. It’s all about finding yourself again, and redescovering snowboarding in a more primitive way; going back to the roots, away of lift lines, sinking into an adventure in Nature at its purest. To feel the skins sliding on the snow, your own breath, and the prize of a run on fresh powder after a long and hard ascent. Andorra has a very pleasant climate; the north oriented valleys often give way to heavy snowfall on the Comapedrosa, Ordino, Sorteny and Pas de la Casa valleys, whereas the easterly wind, dumps on the south of the country. On the other hand, the mild climate allows us to get out and enjoy the mountain most of the Winter. I’d like to finish by inviting you all to discover that side of Andorra unknown to most.

Hace ya diez años usé por primera vez un splitboard, un Duotone que venía en un pack completo. Yo entonces trabajaba para la empresa que distribuía la marca. Fue algo mágico, descubrir nuevos terrenos con la tabla...alejados de las estaciones. Lo cierto es que las primeras pruebas no fueron muy convincentes: la tabla era demasiado blanda y el sistema muy frágil; así que volví a las aproximaciones con raquetas o pateando. Sin embargo, desde entonces no he dejado de pensar en este sistema, y hace 5 años, por casualidad, me encontré una Burton serie S en una tienda, y hablando con el jefe, me contó que el sistema había evolucionado. Directamente, me compré la tabla para probarla...no sé si fue porque las condiciones eran perfectas ese día, pero finalmente el splitboard me había convencido y cada noche soñaba con lugares de libertad... Entonces empecé con www.splitboard.fr porque me costaba mucho encontrar información. Me decidí a crear esta página y lo hice en un día. Quería compartir esta pasión y hacer que todo el mundo pudiera experimentar esta tremenda modalidad de snowboard de travesía. Desde hace 2 ó 3 años se habla cada vez más del splitboard, y con la llegada de la película Deeper con Jeremy Jones y Xavier de la Rue, sin duda se ha consolidado. Todavía hay ocasiones en las que me sigo encontrando con riders con raquetas, pero con la llegada de las grandes marcas, como K2, VOLKL, LIB-TECH, JONES,... va a ser cada vez más fácil encontrar material a precios razonables. Lo que sí está claro es que el split permitirá a muchos snowboarders de los Alpes y los Pirineos descubrir la verdadera montaña, la que te proporciona mucha felicidad, pero sin olvidar que hay que respetar su belleza y su riesgo. Por supuesto siempre hay que estar alerta y no salir de casa nunca sin el equipo básico (pala, sonda, arva....mochila ABS) y ser amable con la gente que te encuentras a tu paso. ¡¡¡Disfrutad del Splitboard!!!

Already ten years ago, I used a splitboard for the first time, a Duotone which was a complete package; I worked the company that imported the brand. It was magic to discover new playgrounds with our snowboard... away from ski resorts. Admittedly, the first tests were not really conclusive, the board was too soft, the system very fragile. So back to snowshoes or walking approach. But since, I never stopped thinking about this system. By chance, 5 years ago, I came across a Burton S series in a shop, and while talking to the boss, he told me that the system had evolved. I bought the board directly to try it.... I do not know if that day the condicions were perfect...but I was finally caught in splitboarding, I dreamed every night with free spaces... Since, I created www.splitboard.fr, because I had a lot of trouble finding information, it was just available about the mountains and I decided to create this site and I made it in one day. I wanted to share this passion and to allow everyone to experience this incredible snowboard touring. We’ve heard more and more about Splitboarding over the past 2 or 3 years, and the release of the movie Deeper, whith Jeremy Jones and Xavier de la Rue has definitely validated the concept. There are still some times when I cross surfers with snowshoes, but with the arrival of mass brands such as K2, VOLKL, LIB-TECH, JONES,...it will be easier to find equipment at reasonable prices. One thing is for sure, splitboarding will allow many snowboarder of the Alps and the Pirinees to discover the true mountain, the one that gives you so much happiness, but we must also respect it for its beauty and its dangers; Of course we must always remain aware and never go out without the trilogy (shovel, probe, avalanche transceiver....ABS BAG) and always treat all the people we meet out there with courtesy .. Volví a meterme en el splitboard unos años atrás cuando después de unas temporadas de heli-snowboard en Alaska, el deseo de salir a la montaña más en profundidad en mi casa, el backcountry asutríaco, en busca de buen freeriding fué finalmente suficientemente fuerte para juntar las piezas del puzzle. Una razón para escoger el splitboard en aquél momento fué que ni helicópteros ni motos de nieve están permitidos en Austria. Con nuestro proyecto de grabación HIKE (descarga gratis en http://vimeo.com/ channels/hike), el splitboard empezó a convertirse en la principal herramienta para acceder a todos los buenos descensos, pero con el paso del tiempo he aprendido también a apreciar el foquear con mi splitboard más y más y incluso he empezado a preferir subir una montaña que un rápido ascenso en helicóptero! Por supuesto que no puedes descender tantas líneas por día pero al mismo tiempo, me gusta mucho la lenta aproximación a la línea escogida para descenderla. No te escupen en la cima después de tres minutos en un helicóptero y ni siquiera sabes dónde estás o cómo has llegado hasta allí! Para mí es más como que me estoy preparando para mi descenso durante la subida después de observar diferentes ángulos, sentir el manto nival...
I got back into Splitboarding a few years ago, when after a few seasons of riding with helicopter support in Alaska, the wish to get out deeper into my home -Austrian- backcounty in search for good freeriding was finally strong enough to get it all together. A reason for choosing the splitboard at that time was for sure that neither heliing nor snowmobiling are allowed in Austria. With our HIKE filmproject (free download: http://vimeo.com/channels/hike) splitboarding started to become for us the main access to riding all the good stuff, but over time I also learned to appreciate the hiking with my splitboard more and more, and even started to prefer hiking up a mountain to get a quick heli drop! For sure you don’t get to ride as many lines per day, but at the same time, I really like this slower approach to the line I want to ride on a mountain. You don’t get spit out at the top after 3 minuntes in the heli, without even knowing where you are and how you got there! For me it feels more like getting ready for my run on the way up, after getting different angles, feeling the snowpack….

En Noruega hace bastante frío y hay muchas montañas. Noruega está hecha para el splitboard. No tenemos cimas de más de 4000 m. de altura como en los Alpes; nuestra montaña más alta mide aproximadamente 2400 metros. Por el efecto de la corriente del golfo, nuestro clima es más cálido que el de nuestros amigos de Alaska o de otras áreas de la misma latitud. Aún así, tenemos un gran número de montañas, especialmente si lo comparamos con nuestra escasa población; básicamente, hay montañas para todos. La temporada puede empezar como muy pronto a finales de septiembre , que es cuando ponemos rumbo a los glaciares en las cordilleras de Jotunheimen y otras áreas alpinas. A principios de noviembre, la temporada ya está a pleno rendimiento. La costa oeste, donde se encuentra parte de mi terreno favorito para el splitboarding, necesita un poco más de tiempo que la parte más fría (pero más plana) de la Noruega oriental, pero en cambio pueden recibir cantidades ingentes de nieve en cuestión de días. Aunque las cimas de las montañasen este área miden unos 1200-1400 m aproximadamente, cada uno de esos metros son buenos para el descenso. En Sogndal, por ejemplo, mis amigos descienden desde la cima hasta la orilla del Sognefjord. Hacia el norte siguiendo la costa oeste, encontramos la sierra llamada Alpes de Sunnmøre, y la zona de Romsdalen hacia el interior, dos áreas que quitan el aliento, con temperaturas estables y montones de nieve. Todavía más hacia el norte, están las islas Lofoten y los Alpes de Lyngen, y un enorme número de famosas, aunque menos conocidas, buenas áreas para el splitboard. Pero Noruega es oscura. En enero empezamos a foquear en la oscuridad, y con suerte llegamos de vuelta abajo antes del anochecer, aunque sólo pasemos cuatro horas en la montaña. El tercio norte de Noruega no ve el sol en absoluto durante todo el invierno. En la mayoría de zonas, la nieve aguanta hasta abril o incluso mayo. A principios de mayo, empezamos a dirigirnos hacia Jotunheimen, a jugar en la famosa área alpina hasta mediados de junio, o incluso julio en una buena temporada. El splitboarding está despegando en Noruega. Tres años atrás, la gente miraba mi splitboard y negaba con la cabeza. Ahora dicen “¡Acabo de pedir el mío!”. Y no me extraña, con tantas buenas montañas para surfear y tan pocos remontes en condiciones. Ven a Noruega. Norway has a lot of mountains, and Norway is pretty cold. Norway is made for splitboarding. Sure - we lack the 4000+ peaks of the European Alps. Our tallest mountain is roughly 2400 meters above sea level. And because of the gulfstream, our climate is warmer than that of our friends in Alaska and other areas along the same Longitude. Still, we have a huge number of mountains, especially compared to our relatively sparse population. There are mountains for everyone, basically. The season can start as early as late September, where we head to the glaciers in the mountain ranges of Jotunheimen and other alpine areas. By early November, the season is pretty much full on. The west coast, which has some of my favorite terrain for splitboarding, will often have to wait a bit longer than the colder (but flatter) eastern Norway but in return they can get some insane amounts of snow in just a matter of days. In Sogndal my friends are riding from peak to the shoreline of the Sognefjord. So even though the mountains top out at around 1200-1400 meters in the area, every one of those meters are good for riding. Further up north along the west coast, we have the Sunnmørsalpene mountain range, and Romsdalen further inland, both breathtaking areas with stable temperatures and lots of snow. Even further up there is Lofoten and Lyngsalpene and a massive number of less famous but equally good areas for splitboarding. Norway is dark, though. During January we basically start skinning in the darkness and hopefully reach back down before dusk - even though we only spend 4 hours on the mountain. The northern third of Norway doesn’t see the sun at all during winter. In most areas the snow holds until april or even may. In early May, we start heading back to Jotunheimen and play in the so-called high alpine until mid-June or even July on a good season. Splitboarding is taking off in Norway. 3 years ago, people would look at my splitboard and shake their heads. Now, they’re going “I’ve just ordered mine!” No wonder, with so many good rideable mountains and so few proper lifts. Come to Norway. Visit Sogndal, Voss, Sunnmøre and Åndalsnes and I promise you’ll a whole mountain all to yourself. At least for another couple of years.

Mi primer split me lo compré en el 2008; era excelente para subir pero a la hora de bajar, dejaba bastante que desear.

Sin embargo, con mi split Venture, siento que la tabla rinde bajo mis pies cuando así lo necesito en terreno complicado. No hay nada peor que estar en mitad de la montaña y sentir que tu material no está a la altura de las circunstancias.Yo pienso que lo de ganarte tus giros, en términos de emisión de CO2, estan esencial como las energías renovables. El cuerpo es un motor que puede funcionar mucho más tiempo que cualquier coche, heli o ratrack. El splitboard nos abre a todos las posibilidades de travesía. Una de las mejores sensaciones es marcar la huella de las pieles para ir ganando altura regularmente. Ascender con el ángulo perfecto, con la fatiga mínima. La pasada primavera en Valdez, Alaska, me encontré una huella perfecta en una pala de 40 grados. Tras experimentar esto, me propuse abrir huellas que otras personas aprecien, como yo hice aquel día. El reto de encontrar rutas añade un componente mental a cualquier viaje. Y por último el descenso: estar ahí en algún lugar, a kilómetros de cualquier estación o carretera, pillando lo bueno. Un terreno infinito, y sin cruzar un camino sea cual sea la dirección elegida. Existen tantas posibilidades como estrellas en el firmamento. Bajar desde un pico, un canal o una pala por la que nadie ha bajado antes; el splitboard me ha abierto una nueva progresión de aprendizaje en las montañas.

Looking at the peaks behind my home mountain the opportunities go off to the horizon, except its wilderness area and offlimits to snow machines and Heli’s. Snowboard on my back walking with snowshoes and all the rest of the consequential gear. That’s the way it’d been for over ten years of my backcountry exploration. Then I heard about the splitboard. “You mean it splits into two skis so I can slide and glide my feet.” Got my first splitty in 2008, it was awesome for getting out there, but the ride down was lacking. Riding my Venture split, I feel that the board performs under my feet when I need it to in sketchy terrain. There is no worse feeling then being out in the middle of the backcountry and your ride is not getting it done. I think “ Earn your Turns” in a world of carbon power is as essential as renewable resources. The body as an engine can run far longer than any car, heli, or snow machine that I know of. The splitboard opens up touring to all of us. One of the best feelings is setting the skin track, steadily gaining vertical. Rising on that perfect angle, allowing ascencion with minimal fatigue . Last spring in Valdez, Alaska I found a perfect track up a 40 degree slope. After experiencing this I set it in my mind to set tracks that others will appreciate just as I did on that day. The challenge of route finding adds a mental element of it to any journey. And finally the ride. When you are out somewhere miles from resorts or highways, finding the Goods. Bottomless terrain not crossing a track in any direction you want to take. There are as many possibilities as stars in the night sky. Riding some peak, couloir, or a face that has never been ridden, splitboarding has allowed me another learning progression in the mountains.

Splitboard, un divertido juguete para Japón. Hay que reconocerlo: ¡qué país tan bonito es Japón! Es muy montañoso y tenemos montones de nieve seca en invierno. Puedes caminar, escalar y surfear donde sea si tienes un splitboard. Es como en la película Deeper; el backcountry no es tan amplio ni tiene tanta pendiente, pero un foqueo de 30minutos nos hace pasar un buen rato. Así que creemos que este país puede ser el mejor lugar para el splitboarding. Así como en todo el mundo, el splitboard se está haciendo popular en Japón. Tiempo atrás, teníamos que construir los splitboards nosotros mismos, pero ahora podemos encontrar splitboards de alta calidad hechos en Japón en las tiendas, además de muchas buenas marcas de todo el mundo. Aún así, el splitboard no es muy popular todavía, pero aunque es complicado encontrar splitboarders en las estaciones de esquí de Japón, se encuentran. ¡No queremos que este movimiento se consuma en poco tiempo! ¡Larga vida al splitboarding!Esperamos que nuestros amigos se lo pasen bien con este gran juguete. Y esperamos que la gente vuelva a casa sana y salva. No más accidentes en la montaña. En Japón ya hemos derramado muchas lágrimas por ello.

Splitboard, the Fun Toy for Japan We re-recognize what a nice country Japan is ! It’s very mountainous and we have a bunch of dry snow in winter. You can walk, climb and shred anywhere if you have a Splitboard. It’s not like the movie “deeper”, back-yard BC is not so big nor steep, but 30 minutes hike gives us a fun time. So we think this country might be the best place for splitboarding. As the world, Splitboard is getting popular in Japan. Back in the day, we had to build it by ourselves. But now, we can find a beautiful high quality splitboard made in Japan at the store. And we can find many cool splitboard brand from the world, too. But splitboard is not super popular now. It’s still hard to find out splitboarders at the ski resorts in Japan, but will find out the tracks easily in BC. We don’t want this movement burns out in a short time. Splitboard live longer!
