Grigne TRAIL High Course
Ambassador Filippo Canetta
Grigna massif, rises up to 2410 m D+ in the heart of Prealpi Lombarde, it’s a place of beautiful landscape that includes vary and rugged morphology, that resemble dolomite appearances, and glimpse on Como’s Lake. Two are the principal summits: northern Grigna (2410 m D+) commonly known as Grignone, and Southern Grigna (2177 mD+) known as Grignetta. But when we talk about Grigna, especially among mountaineers, that is to say Southern Grigna, the place where Lombardo’s mountaineering was born and where the biggest names of this sport make some of their challenges: Cassin, Comici, Corti, Riva...rocks that also nowadays are a gym for the renowned Ragni di Lecco. A kind of soil that offers many possibilities also for trailers and that hosts, with a stop to Rifugio Brioschi, one of the more classic run through mountains: Scaccabarozzi Trophy. trail described by Filippo Canetta I always feel ashamed of never having run on the Grigne Group. I feel a little bit dizzy and this always stops my curiosity. That’s the reason why I
accepted with enthusiasm this invitation and I don’t regret it. The equipped stretches, if engaged with tranquillity, are not so demanding and, to be able to put the hands on such important rocks has been unique. From Pian dei Resinelli (1278 m D+) we go up to Rifugio S.e.m. Soldanella Cavalletti (1356 m D+) where the naturalistic trail starts. After a short rise, we reach Rifugio Porta (1426 m D+) where, on the left, we enter the trail n 7, known as Cresta Cermenati, that in less then two kilometres takes us on the Southern Grigna or Grignetta (elevation 2184D+). No long after the top we meet Rifugio Bruno Ferrario (elevation 2177mD+) a building shaped as a space shuttle, made in aluminium, that can hosts up to 6/8 people. Going on trail N 7 (Grigna High Course o High Crossing), at first we downhill on a equipped trail and then on a easy way up to Val di Mala and Buco di Grigna (elevation 1842 mD+). The contrast between the aridity of the top and the greenery of the valley is huge. We climb up to the Grignone’s northern
slope, and after a short trail across the top, we proceed on. Scudi’s equipped trail (2028 mD+). Overtaken the rock’s spur we proceed, always on the top, on a trail up to Rifugio Ugo Merlini (2144 mD+) from where we take trail n33 to reach the Southern Grigna top (Grignone) reaching Rifugio Brioschi (2410 m D+). Back track up Rifugio Merlini, we proceed in the valley direction, always on trail n 33, up to arrived at Pialeral, where we meet rifugio Antonietta (elevation 1428 m D+) from where, further down, with a narrow turn on the right, we take the Low Crossing. The trail crosses a fantastic beech tree forest, getting through the river Pioverna before crossing a huge gravel road. The trail becomes a white road in the last 2 kilometres up to rifugio S.e.m. Soldanella Cavalletti.
