SportAccord Convention has now entered its second decade as the premier sports gathering involving all of the International Sports Federation rights holders. Our mission is to nurture and develop the cooperative spirit of the diverse international sporting community, and to make SportAccord Convention synonymous with connecting people from around the globe and throughout the entire spectrum of sport. We take pride in listening, and aim to be a catalyst for cooperation, communication and collaboration between people, business, sporting bodies and governments. Owned by SportAccord, ASOIF and AIOWF, the 6-day event comprises the annual meetings of 107 International Olympic and nonOlympic Sports Federations and Organisations, two and a half days of diverse conference sessions, an extensive industry exhibition, and a wide variety of scheduled networking opportunities throughout the week. To date, the International Olympic Committee have also held their spring Executive Board meeting at the Convention. Since 2003, when the event first took place in Madrid, the Convention has been held in Lausanne, Berlin, Seoul, Beijing, Athens, Denver, Dubai, London, Québec City and this year, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The 2014 event will take place in Belek/Antalya, Turkey, with several other cities currently bidding to host SportAccord Convention in the coming years. With up to 1700-2000 delegates from all over the world, SportAccord Convention is the key industry event for members of the international sporting community wanting to liaise with colleagues, exchange ideas and knowledge, and meet potential new partners from all areas of the sports world.

Other facets of the SportAccord Convention portfolio include: yyThe popular SportAccord Convention After Hours Bar, one of the week’s key networking sites. This will be located at the Sokos Hotel Palace Bridge, and will be open Tuesday May 28 to Thursday May 30. yyThe Sports Demo Zone, which returns to the Exhibition Hall again this year, allowing various sports to showcase their disciplines live throughout the week. yyThe First Comers Breakfast, taking place on the morning of Tuesday May 28, designed to give first-time attendees to SportAccord Convention a brief guide to making the most of their week with us. yyOur SportAccord Convention event publication, The Daily, which is distributed free of charge every morning at the breakfast restaurant of each hotel, and will update you on all of the latest Convention news.

These provide a useful guide for matching up potential host cities with future international sporting events. yyThe annual IF Forum, which we organise each November in Lausanne. This event is comprised of a series of private workshops and conference sessions designed by the International Federations themselves, exclusively for their members.

SportAccord is the umbrella organisation for 107 international sports federations and organisations. Its mission is to unite and support the common interests of the sports movement. Activities include the organisation of the Multi-Sports Games (SportAccord World Combat Games, SportAccord World Mind Games, SportAccord World Beach Games, SportAccord World Artistic Games, SportAccord World Urban Games); doping-free sport; social/environmental responsibility and integrity; the International Federations recognition process; the Online Community platform, the World Sports Index, The Sports Hub as well as several other strategic initiatives, all developed and implemented on behalf, and to the benefit, of SportAccord’s members. This year’s SportAccord International Convention takes place in Saint Petersburg, Russia. This beautiful and culturally rich city will also be the host of the second edition of SportAccord World Combat Games (18-26 October 2013) which promote values of self-control, determination and technical mastery. The event programme features Martial Arts and Combat Sports; Aikido, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Kendo, Kickboxing, Muaythai, Sambo, Savate, Sumo, Taekwondo, Wrestling, Wushu. The sports combine unique elements of culture, wisdom, and friendship to create an elite sports competition, called “the Art of Combat”. This year will also feature the third edition of SportAccord World Mind Games (to take place in Beijing, China) - an event that promotes strategy, intelligence and mental stamina. There are five participating mind sports; Bridge, Chess, Draughts, Go and Xiangqi (Chinese Chess). The above-mentioned events are just two in the portfolio of Multi-Sports Games developed by SportAccord. The Multi-Sports Games, which group Olympic and non-Olympic sports with common backgrounds, focus on: 1) promoting excellence and diversity in sport 2) encouraging cross-sports exchanges and creating a unique atmosphere for athletes and fans; and 3) raising awareness about social and sustainability issues. Other events in development include the World Beach Games, the World Artistic Games and the World Urban Games. SportAccord’s Integrity Unit takes a leading role in the provision of generic tools and services for its members to assist them in combating the scourge of match-fixing in sport. An Integrity Package launched in 2013 includes a Code of Conduct, Model Rules, Guide to Integrity in Sport, Integrity Database and the revamped E-Learning ‘RealPlayer’ Programme. The Unit has been actively collaborating with international partners such as the EU, Council of Europe, Interpol, the United Nations, and the World and European Lotteries Associations to address the integrity of sport including defining a framework for better governance within sports organisations. The Social Responsibility Unit has been instrumental in forging the global efforts to increase the positive social, environmental and economic impacts of sports events through a Sustainability Event Management strategy launched during the IF Forum 2012. SportAccord supports its members in 5 areas in their sustainability journey: 1. Training and Education, 2. Implementation, 3. Reporting, 4. Certification and 5. Communication.

Founded in 1983 by the 21 International Federations governing the sports included in the Programme of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games, ASOIF was created to form a unifying and cohesive link between the summer Olympic IFs, the IOC and the organisers of the Olympic Games and now has 28 members. ASOIF’s role is to serve and represent the Summer Olympic International Federations in the most competent and professional manner on all issues of common and global interest. This includes the Summer Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, all affairs within the Olympic Movement including those related to the World AntiDoping Agency and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, issues such as the fight against illegal betting and corruption in sport and all other matters that affect its member Federations. This year, ASOIF celebrates its thirtieth anniversary by welcoming its third President, Francesco Ricci Bitti. Under the previous twelve year presidency of Denis Oswald ASOIF took great strides towards binding the Summer Olympic sports together in a manner that promoted and celebrated their unity for the collective enhancement of the sports and the Olympic Movement in general. This spirit will be consolidated under President Ricci Bitti, and the new presidency will also see a marked increase not only in ASOIF’s daily operations, but also in the scope of its representation and projects for the benefit of its members. ASOIF is administered by an executive body, the Council, which consists of its President and six additional individual members from different IFs. The ASOIF office is located in the House of Sport in Lausanne and is led by the Executive Director, Andrew Ryan. The Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations was founded in 1976 during the Games in Innsbruck by the six International Federations on the Programme of the Olympic Winter Games at that time. The World Curling Federation was affiliated when it was included in the Programme of the Games in 1992. In principle the main purpose of AIOWF is to represent matters of common interest to the International Winter Sports Federations in its dealings with the International Olympic Committee, SportAccord and Organizing Committees of the Olympic Winter Games, respecting the autonomy of each of the members. The AIOWF Council is composed of seven members, representing each of the Member Federations. The secretariat is presently the General Secretary of the International lce Hockey Federation, Horst Lichtner.

saint petersburg In just 300 years Saint Petersburg has had many faces. Peter the Great’s folly, built on May 16, 1703 on a swamp and intended to turn Russia’s face towards the West, soon became a magnificent city reflecting the majesty of the Russian Empire. Then it was the “cradle of the Revolution”, where Lenin came to power. During the Second World War it became a symbol of a national pride. Today it is Russia’s cultural capital, with a wonderfully preserved heritage and an international arts programme. Taken together, these four itineraries encompass the city’s sight-seeing highlights. Individually, they show the influences that shaped the city: imperial, Russian and Soviet. Standing at the intersection of various sea, river, and land routes, Saint Petersburg became Russia’s gateway to Europe and the country’s strategic center, the point closest to the countries of the European Union. Saint Petersburg counts about 5 million of inhabitants. It is the largest city in Europe that is not a capital and the world’s largest, most northern city: the 60th parallel, on which the city lies, passes through Greenland, Anchorage, Alaska and Oslo, the capital of Norway. Saint Petersburg is famed for its white nights, a major tourist attraction. For more than 200 years, Saint Petersburg was the resplendent capital of the great Russian Empire, and remains the country’s cultural and spiritual center to this day. A great part of buildings in the City as well as the beautiful Palaces of the outskirts are included into UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Saint Petersburg is one of the sport centers of Russia. Annually the City hosts international sport events. The most important international events of the nearest future are the world The World Combat Games 2013, Ice Hockey World Championship, 2016. Saint Petersburg is also well known for its sport history. Olympic motion in Russia started here and nowadays developing continuously. All in all, there were 114 Olympic champions that started their trainings in our city. Hundreds of swimming pools, ice rinks, play-fields and courts were constructed during last years and this fact shows that sport infrastructure is quickly developing.

‘What regulatory framework is needed to combat match-fixing in sport?’

Who: International Sports Federation legal counsel/integrity officers, sports lawyers, legislators and policy makers specialised in sports fraud. To help combat the scourge of match-fixing that is infiltrating sport around the world, a strong regulatory framework adopted by sports organizations and legislative authorities is crucial. There is general consensus that the adoption of strict regulations as well as adequate prevention and disciplinary procedures by sports organizations must be supported, in parallel, by a clear legislative framework. Fighting criminals involved in match-fixing through recourse to criminal legislation that enables investigatory powers and sanctions to guarantee both efficiency and protection of individual rights cannot be achieved without national and international legal frameworks. Furthermore, the betting laws in various jurisdictions around the world must be taken into account as gambling has significantly developed and changed in nature in the last decade substantially contributing to contemporary match-fixing characteristics. LawAccord 2013 participants will be invited to discuss national and international regulatory frameworks addressing match-fixing in order to provide participants with a clear insight on the status quo and where further regulation is required.

Since 2009, Jean Todt has been the President of the FIA, the world regulator of motor sport. His long experience and his exceptional record of achievements, acquired as a rally codriver in the World Championship and then as manager of Peugeot Sport and Ferrari, give him a unique global vision of this sport, which is facing multiple challenges.

SUPER HUMAN – Sport, and the Athletes of the Future History was made at the London 2012 Olympic Games when Oscar Pistorious became the first athlete with prosthetic limbs to compete alongside able-bodied athletes, transforming the world’s understanding of what it is to be elite, excellent, and able.

The globalisation of sport, environmental objectives, economic constraints, social responsibility with regard to road safety -- the FIA, under the presidency of Jean Todt, has placed itself directly in the front line with these issues. He will answer David Eades’ questions on these present and future challenges.

When he failed to win during the Paralympic Games, controversy ensued over whether the acceptable parameters of the human form were being stretched, as his claim was that his rival had legs that were too long. These two trajectories reveal how the world of sport is likely to change in the future, as technology allows athletes to transcend biological norms in ways that do not invoke the kinds of anxieties associated with controversial methods of doping.

How will science, and the demand for entertainment, change the boundaries for sport two decades from now? What will be in and what will be out? How far will advances in technology and biology re-shape our attitude to sport, the rules of the games we play, and a level playing field on which to play?

Ingrid Beutler is an international lawyer and Director of the Social Responsibility and Integrity Units of SportAccord, the umbrella organisation for all international sports federations and organisations. From 2006-2010, Ingrid was with the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace where she spearheaded the integration of the Sport for Development and Peace International Working Group into the UN system and was editor of the United Nations Report on the International Year of Sport and Physical Education 2005. Prior to this, Ingrid was a researcher at the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces. She competed as a professional cyclist in Europe before undertaking a Masters in International Law (LL.M) with the Graduate Institute of International Studies, Geneva, Switzerland. She also has a law degree (LL.B) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A) with a double major in geography and political science from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and is an Associate of the Trinity College of London (ATCL in piano).

Born in Vorarlberg in Western Austria, Peter Bayer holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Innsbruck University. He has gained substantial experience as marketing and event director of large-scale events around the globe for over 15 years and has held various top management positions in different organizing committees. Peter is an expert in sports consulting with a focus on youth-oriented strategies. In September 2009, he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Innsbruck 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, which IOC President Jacques Rogge summarized as being ten glorious days. Since January 2012 Peter has been the Managing Director of OSM – Opensportsmanagement. OSM, a new organisation set up by Sir Keith Mills, former Deputy Chairman of the London 2012 Olympic Games and long-time supporter of IMOCA and America’s Cup sailing, has been created to specifically promote ocean racing with the IMOCA class and to manage their commercial interests.

Jim Bell, who served as the executive producer of the 2012 London Olympics, the most-watched event in U.S. television history, was named the full-time Executive Producer of NBCUniversal’s coverage of the Olympic Games on November 13, 2012. Bell will report to NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus and will have editorial and creative control over NBC’s Olympic Unit, led by Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics.

Mihir Bose is an award winning journalist and author. He writes a weekly “Big Sports Interview” for the London Evening Standard, and also writes and broadcasts on social and historical issues as well as sport for a range of outlets including the BBC, the Financial Times and the Independent. He has just published two books: Game Changer: How the English Premier League came to dominate the world and The Spirit of the Game: How sport made the modern world.

Bell rejoins NBC Sports Group full time following seven years leading “Today,” the iconic news program that dominated the morning ratings race for 16 years. He served as both executive producer of “Today” and the London Olympics earlier this year.

He was the BBC’s first Sports Editor where he investigated and analysed sports stories. Before joining the BBC, he was the chief sports news correspondent for the Daily Telegraph for 12 years where he created an innovative weekly column, Inside Sport. He also wrote on the editorial pages on such subjects as race, immigration, and other social and cultural issues.

With more than 20 years of experience producing some of the highest profile news and sports programming on television, Bell has created, managed and overseen original television content of every type and is a leader within NBC’s senior production ranks. In addition to guiding the “Today” show through some of its most challenging transitions and ambitious initiatives, he has been a critical part of NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games. Bell spent 16 years with NBC Sports & Olympics. He has worked on every Olympic Games NBC has broadcast since 1992 in either sports (1992, 1996, 2000, 2002 and 2004) or news (2006, 2008 and 2010). Bell, 44, joined “Today” in 2005 with responsibility for all aspects of the program. During his tenure, it extended its dominance in the morning ratings race to 16 years, earned five Emmys, seven Edward R. Murrow Awards and nine Headliner Awards. He specialises in the field of sporting integrity, particularly match-fixing and sports betting regulation. He presents and lectures, publishes articles and advises a variety of clients regularly and extensively on these two topics. André Noël Chaker is a lawyer and business executive with over 20 years of experience in international sport law and business. He holds law degrees from McGill University in Canada (BCL, LLB) and an MBA from Aalto University in Finland. He is a member of the New York Bar and of the Finnish Lawyers Association. He is the former Secretary General of the International Council of Sports Science (ICSSPE) and has published two books on international sports law and governance for the Council of Europe. He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland and a member of both the IAAF and the FISU Juridical Commissions. Dmitry Chernyshenko, a native of Sochi, is one of the leading Russian professionals in sport marketing and event organizing. Graduate of the Moscow State Technological University, Mr. Chernyshenko began his career in advertising in 1989, establishing the agency that later developed into Media Arts Group - one of the leaders of the Russian media market. He is also a founder of the first Russian sports marketing agency ‘Sportima’. Dmitry led a successful Sochi 2014 bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2014 and after the victory he was awarded the Order of Honor. Pierre Cornu graduated in law from the University of Neuchâtel / Switzerland. After a time of practice in a law office, he passed the bar exam and then worked as an attorney for some years before becoming investigating judge in 1987. Ten years later, he was elected general prosecutor of Neuchatel, Switzerland, a position which he held until 2011. He then joined UEFA, in Nyon, as Chief Counsel, Integrity and Regulatory Affairs. Since August 2012, he is Senior Legal Counsel at the CIES.

During his years in the judiciary, Pierre Cornu has also worked for an investigation committee of the Swiss parliament about specific issues regarding the Ministry of Defense and established a report about the relations between the Swiss secret organisation P-26 and foreign organisations. For the Swiss Confederation and the Council of Europe, he has been active in various cooperation projects with Central and Eastern European countries, in particular in the field of judges’ and prosecutors’ ethics and deontology. In sports, Pierre Cornu has presided during many years over the Swiss Football Association’s Control and Disciplinary Committee and later the Appeals Body of the Swiss FA. Inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame (2003) and the University of Texas at El Paso Sports Hall of Fame (2006) as the first female inductee. In 2009, she was recognized with the Jack Diamond Award as BC’s Sports Personality of the Year and has been named one of the “Top 50 Women of Power” in Canada.

Previously, Don spent 33 years with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), the last 26 of which as its Executive Director. Prior to joining the MLBPA, Don worked as outside counsel on the landmark Messersmith-McNally free agency case for the union. Under Don’s leadership, the MLB players successfully maintained unity through one lockout and two strikes; litigated the collusion cases of the 1980s which led to the owners paying $280 million in damages to the players; and won the bad-faith bargaining case that ended the 1994-95 strike and eventually led to a new collective bargaining agreement that established labor peace in baseball, which it has enjoyed since, in contrast to the other US professional team sports. He played an important role in growing the sport of baseball beyond North America, including helping in the creation and development of the World Baseball Classic In June 2009, Don announced his retirement as MLBPA Executive Director. Don also served for seven years as a Public Sector member of the Board of Directors of the United States National Olympic Committee for seven years. Don serves as the NHL players’ chief negotiator in collective bargaining with NHL owners. He always developed and maintained a strong consensus throughout the entire MLBPA membership on all important issues while keeping the players united and informed, and has sought to do the same with the NHLPA membership.

Appointed by the IOC Executive Board as Secretary of the IOC Ethics Commission in 2002, Ms. Zappelli is responsible for supporting the Ethics Commission for cases in relation to breaches of the IOC Code of Ethics. She provides advice and support for the Olympic Movement with regards to the respect of ethical principles and strategically leads the efforts of the IOC to safeguard sports’ integrity. Her judicial career spans two decades during which time she was Judge at the Tribunal de grande instance (first instance court) of Privas (France), a Judge delegated to the Ministry of Justice – Direction of the Civil Affairs – Deputy-Direction of the international law and Judge at the Cour de Cassation (Supreme Court) 1992-2002.

Dr Beatriz Garcia is Head of Research at the Institute of Cultural Capital and Senior Research Fellow in Sociology at the University of Liverpool. She has been at the forefront of debates about culture-led urban regeneration for fifteen years. Her pioneering work on the cultural impact and legacy of mega-events has informed city strategists around the world, from Sydney to London. Dr Garcia has led and delivered some of the most high profile projects in cultureled regeneration, first working on the Sydney 2000 Olympic cultural programme, then on the legacy of the Glasgow 1990 European City of Culture and most recently directing the pioneering Impacts 08 research framework on the multiple impacts of Liverpool 2008 as European Capital of Culture. David Hill joined FOX Sports in December 1993 when News Corp wrested the rights to the National Football League from CBS and he was charged with building a network quality sports division, literally from the ground up. He returned to FOX after relinquishing his DIRECTV role, assuming the position of Chairman and CEO of the FOX Sports Media Group, which is News Corp’s U.S. based sports group which includes FOX Sports, FOX Sports Networks, SPEED, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Deportes, the Big Ten Network and the hugely popular FOXSports.com, which in August 2012 set a record for monthly traffic totaling 46 million unique users. In 2004 Nils Hoch was appointed Head of Exhibitions and Events at Halle Münsterland where he also managed the trainees. In 2009 Nils Hoch joined Olympiapark München GmbH, he is member of the executive board and responsible for the Event and the Sales Department. Main events for example are X-Games, Fis-Ski-Weltcup, Special Olympics and UEFA Champions-League Festival. Concerts and shows, fairs and corporate functions also take place in Olympiapark.

In May 2001, Mr Kiknadze was appointed Deputy General Director and Director for Sports of Channel Rossia, and in May 2003, he was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the Channel Sport. Haroon is a well-known South African who served with distinction as the Chief Executive of the International Cricket Council between 2008 and 2012. He is credited with having delivered the most successful Cricket World Cup to date and, under his leadership, cricket has enjoyed a notable period of growth and improved reputation. During his tenure he has had to deal with many significant issues such as match-fixing and he is widely recognized as having successfully dealt with these challenges alongside the advancement of three different international forms of the game. During his playing days he was a gifted all-rounder but could not compete at international level due to the apartheid policies at the time in South Africa. David is a single below know amputee and former Paralympic Athlete, representing Great Britain in the sports of Standing Volleyball (all Games) and Track & Field Athletics (1980 Games) from 1980 in Arnhem Holland, to 1996 in Atlanta, USA. Widely regarded as one of the world’s best ever Paralympic Standing Volleyball players while the sport was part of the Paralympic program, David received MVP/Best Setter Awards at Paralympic, World or European Championships on some 5 occasions. David also represented Scotland mainstream/able-bodied teams at junior level and played for Kilmarnock Volleyball Club in Scotland for 20 years, dominating the domestic national league and cup competitions in the 80’s, 90’s, and 2000’s. When David was becoming a World Class Athlete as a teenager in the late 70’s/early 80’s, Prosthetic technology was verging on “dynasauric!” and didn’t receive his first Flexfoot leg till the age of 27. Today he wears a “state-of-the-art” Ossur running Blade.

Throughout the 90’s David was also one of the leading forces in Paralympic Athlete advocacy, being elected a member of the inaugural IPC Athletes Commission in 1992 at the Barcelona Games, and chairing the group from 1998 – 2000. He also chaired the British Paralympic Athletes Committee in the 90’s. Professor Miah’s research discusses the intersections of art, ethics, technology and culture and he has published broadly in areas of emerging technologies, particularly related to human enhancement. Professor Miah has published over 100 academic articles in refereed journals, books, magazines, and national media press on the subjects of cyberculture, medicine, technology, and sport. He has also given over 100 major conference presentations and he is often invited to speak about philosophical and ethical issues concerning technology in society. Professor Miah regularly interviews for a range of major media companies, which have included BBC’s Newsnight and Start the Week with Andrew Marr, ABC’s’ The 7:30 Review and CBC’s The Hour. Mike then moved into international sports management first as the International Rugby Board’s CEO/Secretary General and Managing Director of Rugby World Cup Limited for ten years and recently he was appointed the World Olympians Association’s first ever CEO. The WOA is the organisation that unites the 100,000 living Olympians around the world, represents their interests and encourages their involvement in public service. Mike’s experience outside sport includes three years as Channel 4 UK’s Commissioning Editor for the Big Breakfast (their former morning general entertainment and news programme) during which time he oversaw a revitalisation of the programme and an increase in ratings. He was also Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor for the Internet setting up their inaugural online service.

Mr Nuzman was part of the first Brazilian male Olympic volleyball team, which competed at the 1964 Summer Games in Tokyo, when the sport made its Olympic debut. He also participated in the World Championships in the USSR in 1962 and in Czechoslovakia in 1966. He was President of the Brazilian Volleyball Federation for more than 20 years (1975–1996). Since 1995, he has been President of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2000. In 2008, Mr Nuzman became the second Vice-President of the Pan-American Sports Organisation and in 2003 he was appointed President of the South American Sports Organisation. He was President of the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Council between 1988 and 1996, during which time he led the successful campaign for the inclusion of beach volleyball in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Mr Nuzman was awarded the Olympic Order in 1993, was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in the United States of America in 2007, received the Eagle Award from the United States Sports Academy in 2009, and in 2010, he was awarded the Gold Shield of the State of Antioquia in Colombia and the Military Sports Merit Medal in Brazil. Carlos Nuzman was the President of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games Organising Committee. Today he is the President of the Rio 2016 Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games after leading the successful Rio de Janeiro bid to bring the Games to South America for the first time.

Hayden Opie is the Director of Studies of the Melbourne Sports Law Program at The University of Melbourne in Australia. He pursues research and teaching interests in all areas of sports law and is recognised internationally for his work in the field. Sports law has been taught at Melbourne for nearly 25 years and today the program includes a masters degree and a graduate diploma specializing in sports law, as well as featuring 11 discipline-specific subjects. Hayden was the founding president of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association and has filled numerous sport-related roles for government and private organizations. He was elected to Parliament for Faversham and Mid Kent in 2001 and again in 2005 and 2010, doubling his majority on both occasions. After a year on the backbenches, he became a Whip in 2002 and then Shadow Minister for Sport and the Olympics. He was appointed Minister for Sport and The Olympics when the Coalition came to power in May 2010, and as such, was the Minister with day to day responsibility for the delivery of The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Bill has around 30 years’ experience in sport related areas of the Australian Government (including 6 years working in Ministerial offices) and has held senior positions for over 16 years. Bill has had a significant role in the development of Federal sports policy for more than a decade. Bill has headed the Office for Sport (OFS) since it was established in 2010. OFS has primary carriage of sport policy issues and works closely with sport portfolio agencies on Australian sport development through increasing participation, ensuring Australia’s continued success in international competition and protecting the integrity of Australian sport. More recently, a Major Events Taskforce has been established within the OFS to coordinate the Australian Government’s involvement in and support for major sporting events including the 2015 Asian Football Confederation Cup, the 2015 Cricket World Cup and the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The National Integrity of Sport Unit was also recently established in the OFS to provide a central point of coordination on sport integrity issues, particularly match-fixing, anti-doping and threats to the integrity of Australian sport. In addition, the OFS administers a number of programs and funding for special projects including sports facilities, Indigenous sport and recreation, anti-doping research, illicit drugs in sport, water safety and social inclusion.

Working with MLB.com and other partners, the Bloomberg Sports Professional service is now used by 25 of the 30 Major League teams, as well as teams across Japan and Latin America. Examples include the company’s Emmy-winning inventions of the 1st and Ten® yellow first down line, NASCAR “Race F/X” and the “K Zone” baseball tracking and display system. In 2001, Ernst & Young named Mr. Squadron New Year City Entrepreneur of the Year in the media category. Before founding Sportvision, Mr. Squadron was Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning, at News Corporation. During his long career as a civil servant, Harri Syväsalmi has had several director positions in the Ministry (from 1990). He has also worked as Counsellor in the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union (2006 -2010) and chaired the Cultural Affairs Committee and the Youth Working Party during the Finnish Presidency 2006. Among his several positions of trust in the sports movement are e.g. Member of Executive, Organising and Honorary Committee of IAAF World Championships in Athletics 2005 and Member of the Organising Committee of European Championships in Athletics 2012. He has also been Director of Athletes’ Village of the 1st IAAF World Championships 1983. Before his working career Mr Syväsalmi has been a member of the Board of the Finnish University Sports Federation and achieved Academic Championship in volleyball. Mr Syväsalmi has been actively involved in the international work for preserving the integrity of sport. He participated to the establishment of the World Anti-Doping Agency where he served as the first Secretary General (2000 -2001) and Director General (2002-2003). He has co-chaired the EU Council’s Expert Group of Good Governance (match-fixing) since 2011 and is currently chairing the Drafting Group of the International Convention to combat the manipulation of sports competitions as well as the subgroup with focus on sports issues. The 60-year old Syväsalmi is Associate in Laws. He has been awarded the Golden Gross of Merit of the Finnish Physical Education and Sports (2011) and the 1st class Knights cross of the Order of the White Rose of Finland (2012).

After High School, Jean Todt studied at the “Ecole Des Cadres” School of Economics and Business in Paris. In 1966, he started his career as a rally co-driver and participated to the World Championship rallies with most of the car manufacturers together with international rally drivers until 1981 when, with Guy Frequelin, they won the Constructors’ World Rally Championship with Talbot Lotus. He also represented the drivers in the FISA (Fédération Internationale du Sport Automobile) Rally Commission from 1975 to 1981. At the end of 1981 he became Peugeot Sporting Director and funded Peugeot Talbot Sport which under his management won two Constructors’ World Rally Championships, two Drivers’ World Rally Championships and obtained several wins in rally raids, including four in a row in the ParisDakar. He also represented the Constructors in the FISA Rally Commission. In 1990 Jean Todt was appointed Motorsport Director of the PSA Peugeot Citroen Group. In 1992, Peugeot won the World Sports Car Championship and obtained two consecutive victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1992 and 1993. In the middle of 1993, Jean Todt left Peugeot and became Team Principal of Ferrari Racing Division (Gestione Sportiva). Under his leadership, Scuderia Ferrari has won 14 Formula 1 World titles and 106 Grand Prix. In 2001, Jean Todt took on responsibility for all motor sport activity for the Ferrari-Maserati Group and became Member of the Board of Directors of Ferrari. In the middle of 2004 he was appointed General Manager of Ferrari and, at the end of 2006, he became Chief Executive Officer of the Company, maintaining the responsibility of the Gestione Sportiva. In March 2008, he decided to leave his positions of CEO and Director of Gestione Sportiva while maintaining that of Member of the Board, Advisor to the Chairman and also maintaining that of President of Ferrari West Europe (Paris) and Ferrari Asia Pacific (Shanghaï). In March 2009, he ceased any occupation in Ferrari. On October 23rd 2009, Jean Todt was elected President of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile). The FIA is the governing body for world motor sport and the federation of the world’s leading motoring organizations. It brings together over than 230 national motoring and sporting organisations from more than 135 countries on five continents. Jean Todt is also President of eSafety Aware and Member of the Board of Trustees of FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society.

Laurent Vidal is the Chairman of the Paris 1 Sorbonne-ICSS Research Program on Ethics and Sport Integrity at Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University. As well as being a professor at the Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne University, he is co-director of the Department of Business Public Law of the Legal Research Institute of the Sorbonne University - André Tunc (IRJS - Paris 1). He is an expert in public corporate law, specializing in contractual and regulatory activities involving French and foreign authorities and, more broadly, public projects related to the administration of private and public companies. His practice is centred on drafting and solving disputes in relation to, among other, public procurement, contract, competition and energy law. He has experience in advising and litigating on behalf of various clients, including the French State and other governments. Laurent Vidal is also associate researcher at the IRISSO-CNRS (the French National Center for Research) at University Paris Dauphine, where he is co-leading several research initiatives relating to the interaction between law and economic theory.

Natasha Vita-More, Ph.D is a theorist and designer whose research concerns human enhancement and radical life extension. Dr. Vita-More designed the pioneering “Primo Posthuman” prototype and its spin-off, “Platform Diverse Body”. She is co-editor and contributing author of The Transhumanist Reader: Classical and Contemporary Essays on the Science, Technology, and Philosophy of the Future Human. Her writings have been published in numerous books and academic journals such as Technoetic Arts, Evolution haute couture, Metaverse Creativity, New Realities: Being Syncretic, Beyond Darwin, and D’ARS. Wired called Vita-More an “early adopter of revolutionary changes” and Village Voice claimed she is “a role model for superlongevity”. Featured in LAWeekly, The New York Times, and U.S. News & World Report , Vita-More has appeared in numerous televised documentaries on the future. She received Special Recognition at Women in Video and has exhibited at the London Contemporary Art Museum, Niet Normaal, and the Moscow Film Festival. Dr. Vita-More is a university lecturer and currently adjunct professor at the University of Advancing Technology.

Stephen Townley has a unique understanding of the economic and legal models that create and deliver value to sport and their protection in different jurisdictions throughout the world. He has a contemporary understanding on how the model is changing and is accustomed to presenting and dealing at board level with commercial organisations, government and sports bodies. With a strong track record of persuading, negotiating and selling, he has directly delivered very unique and ground breaking deals (often in complex and difficult circumstances). Stephen trained as a litigator and that perspective provides a further insight on the possible causes when “deals go wrong”. Stephen has therefore been called upon to act as an arbitrator (CAS and ICC) as well as a mediator in helping to resolve disputes. He is an expert in managing specialist teams in cross border litigation and dispute management and resolution. Stephen also has substantial experience on issues arising from the use of data and other content in the betting environment giving rise to integrity challenges for sports governing bodies from football to horseracing.

Alexander Zhukov is one of the key sports leaders of Russia. He is well known by the global sports community for bringing the Winter Olympics 2014 to Russia and for his active role in development of international relations in the field of sports. Mr. Zhukov is a member of IOC International Relations Commission and the IOC Working Group on the Fight against Illegal and Irregular Betting in Sport. Alexander Zhukov is very enthusiastic in supporting the international sports organization by hosting their annual sessions, forums and convention in Russia as well as other major sports events and tournaments. During Mr. Zhukov’s Presidency the Russian Olympic Committee has signed 34 Memorandums of cooperation with foreign NOCs and continental sports associations. Alexander Zhukov has great leadership experience both in state governance and in sports. He has administrative background as Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

Andrew Zimbalist is the Robert A. Woods professor of economics at Smith College in Northampton, Ma., and a member of the Five College Graduate Faculty. He received his BA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and his MA and Ph.D in economics from Harvard University. He has been a visiting professor at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, at the University of Hamburg in Germany, at the University of Chile, and at Harvard University. He serves on the editorial boards of various scholarly journals. He has consulted widely in the sports industry for players’ associations, teams, leagues, cities, commissions, foundations, film projects, and law firms, and in economic development for international institutions, is a frequent media commentator, and has published twenty-one books, including Baseball and Billions (1992), Sports, Jobs and Taxes (1997), Unpaid Professionals: Commercialism and Conflict in Big-Time College Sports (1999), May the Best Team Win (2003), National Pastime: How Americans Play Baseball and the Rest of the World Plays Soccer (2005), In the Best Interests of Baseball? The Revolutionary Reign of Bud Selig (2006, 2013), The Bottom Line: Observations and Arguments on the Sports Business (2006), Equal Play: Title IX and Social Change (2007), Circling the Bases: Essays on the Challenges and Prospects of the Sports Industry (2011), and The International Handbook on the Economics of Sport Mega-Events (2012), and over one hundred articles. He recently completed a book manuscript entitled Moneyball Revisited: Assessing the Impact of Sabermetrics on the Baseball Industry, which will be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press later in 2013. He did a regular commentary on NPR’s Marketplace during 2002-05 and contributes opeds frequently to leading newspapers and magazines. He has testified on numerous occasions before the U.S. Congress, state legislatures and city councils. He served as the Smith College faculty athletic representative to the NCAA for over ten years. The FINA World Aquatics Championships was announced on July 15, 2011 on the biennial General Congress of FINA, scheduled in Shanghai — host-city of the 2011 World Aquatics Championships. The International Federation of Muaythai Amateur, is the international federation for the sport of muaythai, recognised by SportAccord since 2006. IFMA has 128 member countries worldwide, and 5 continental federations operating under a unified regulatory body. Muaythai is a martial art originating from Thailand where fighters execute strikes using 8 points of contact: fists, shins, knees and elbows. IFMA participates in the SportAccord Combat Games, TAFISA, Arafura, SEA Games and holds many muaythai events including an annual World Championships. In April 2012, IFMA marked the official launch of the Muaythai towards IOC recognition campaign and lodged its formal application in December 2012.

FIAS is a non-governmental public non-commercial organisation uniting national SAMBO federations and the only acknowledged international organisation guiding SAMBO development worldwide. SAMBO (which is an acronym for Russian name “SAMozaschita Bez Oruzhiya”, (self-defense without weapons) is not only a type of martial art, but also a system of upbringing that encourages the development of a person’s moral qualities, patriotism and civic consciousness.
