pany in November, but in her two runs either side of that win she failed to get within seven lengths of the winner. Oochee Agent was only 3,8 lengths behind Waywest Goddess at levels in the Allan Robertson and on 5kg better terms here, she would undoubtedly have a shout if at her best. She too has proven to be a little erratic though, and she has not found the winner’s enclosure in eleven starts now.

Stratisfaction The Windrush filly Stratisfaction has shown her best form on sand over 1000m, and yet surprisingly taking that into account, she is yet to win over a trip shorter than 1400m on turf. She’s in fair form at the moment, but there are others in this event with greater scope for improvement.

Swallow Stakes over 1160m at Turffontein on Tuesday Night Heading up the five card program in midweek is the listed Swallow Stakes over 1160m at Turffontein on Tuesday night. At first glance one would expect those with the higher merit ratings to be best in at the weights here, but on closer inspection you will find that this stakes race for 3yo fillies is in fact a handicap, writes STEVE FURNISH

op weight Waywest Goddess has a merit rating some eight points higher than that of the best of her rivals here and having won the Gauteng Fillies Nursery en route to finishing a close up second in the prestigious Gr1 Allan Robertson at Scottsville, she is the class act in the field. A winner of three of her eight starts to date, the Var filly Variety has shown good improvement in her most recent outings. Her three wins have all been gained making all in lesser company over 1000m though, and having had to work hard in order to hold on narrowly in two of them, she won’t find it easy to complete the hattrick over an extra 160m in this company.
Lady Beatrix Closely matched with Variety, Lady Beatrix fully deserved her win in novice company over 1200m last time out. She was well treated at the weights in that event though and having yet to win in five starts in handicap company, she too might find it hard to get in a blow now up in class. >>cont. on page 2
