ALLOWANCE PLATE at Turffontein on Tuesday
S
There can’t be too many lightly raced non stakes winning four-time winners around who have grossed close on R1,4 million in earnings. The Wilgerbosdrift bred Trophy Wife fits the bill and heads a powerful Sean Tarry quartet in the Bipot opener at Turffontein on Tuesday. outh African champion trainer Sean Tarry has a powerful string at his disposal and it was no surprise to see him edge ahead of the rampant Justin Snaith on Gauteng Guineas day at the end of February. That happened with Tarry
celebrating ‘only’ three winners – a tally he could well have doubled, had things gone his way.

with four of them lining up in the R110 000 Allowance Plate – a fillies and mares 1800m contest. With half of the field under Tarry’s command, the pace required for the top-class Trophy Wife to deliver a match-winning performance, should not be an issue. Although a few punters may still be smirking after Guineas day, where Tarry pacesetter Stoenhenge failed to come up to tactical scratch for the disappointing French Navy. But that’s history. Big Heart
The ill-fated Tiger Ridge’s consistent daughter Trophy Wife is not a big filly, but she has oodles of ability and boasts the heart of a lion. The six seconds – including a Gr1 and Gr2 – to her credit from 20 outings attest very much more to her fighting spirit than a lack thereof and bumping the likes of Majmu and her own stablemate Siren’s Call was really just bad timing for Trophy Wife. Greyville 26th February This meeting was abandoned after race 2 because of ongoing torrential rain. With Anton Marcus jumping aboard, and sporting blinkers for the first time, the form horse REACTIVE was sent off deep in the red to win the opening maiden plate over 1200m. He got away well when the gates opened and looked to have done everything right at the top of the straight. Showing considerable improvement on his debut performance when beaten 7 lengths by Reactive though, SHOGUN, running on best of all, in turn struck the front 250m out, and went on to score comfortably by a length and three quarters from the perennial maiden DESTINED FOR DAWN. Run in a faster time was the girls’ division of the maiden 1200m won by the favourite HOSANNA. Allowed to ease out to 11/10 from 17/20 at the track, Weiho Marwing’s charge led throughout. She was always in command and won without any anxious moments by two.

Marginally the faster of the two maiden juvenile ABASHIRI. Backed throughout the afternoon into 2/1 favourite from 4’s, Michael Azzie’s charge plates was the girls’ affair won by ARISSA. Soon raced sixth for most of the journey. He quickened at the head of affairs, the 28/10 favourite raced a nicely in the long home straight and comfortably length and a half clear. There was a bit of an upset in the Gr2 Fillies TITBITS Guineas when the even money favourite Backed into favouritism WITCHCRAFT (9/2 into NEGROAMARA got rolled. Always close to the 5/1) won the MR74 Handicap by two and a half speed, Negroamara moved up to challenge the with a ton in hand.
Two By Two Durbanville 27th February The faster of the two 1000m races at the country course on Saturday was the MR78 Handicap won by OVAR. Always top of the boards, Andre Nel’s charge raced fourth during the early part of the race. He was ridden to lead as they approached the 100m marker and comfortably accounted for the running on NORTHER CORNER (came from the rear and didn’t find the clearest of passages) by three quarters. Quickest home in the two 1300m events was CHASING DREAMS in the not so lucky last, a MR66 Handicap. Easy to back at 8/1 on the off, the Rebel King mare sat in midfield early on. She ran on well in the straight and won comfortably from the running
on FAIRY MAKER by a length. In a time some 4,78 seconds faster than that of the bill topping MR90 Handicap, the MR72 Handicap over 2000m was won by ROMAN DISCENT. On leaving the stalls it was the rank outsider of the party LAVITA NOIR (125/1) who elected to make the running whilst Greg Ennion’s charge raced close up in second. He assumed command going through the 300m and went on to win with authority by three.

Married For Life ALLOWANCE PLATE at Turffontein on Tuesday
Her five-time winning stablemate Run For Revelry looks to have a mountain to climb at the weights. She received 4,5 kgs from Trophy Wife when beaten 8 lengths last time and now has to concede a kilo. We’d suggest Karl Zechner is going to receive instructions, which includes, ‘make the pace an honest one!’
Instant Success
Third of the Tarry four is recent runaway maiden winner Inaninstant, a beautifully bred daughter of Silvano who won readily at her third start. It is difficult to guage just how good she is, but she probably lacks for experience against her older stablemates and could likely run into the backend of quartets. Bottomweight Intergalactic
has only won once so far, but her form is not that bad to suggest she is a no-hoper. She chased Gauteng Fillies Guineas eyecatching third placer Frosty Friday home a few runs back and may be more effective over the 1800m, which she tries for the first time. Paul Petertrained London also tries the trip for the first time but has not quite lived up to her Gr2 Ipi Tombe Challenge third

place when only 2,15 lengths back to Met winner, Smart Call. She looks well held by Trophy Wife.
Seniors
The Dynasty mare Krystle Carrington is, alongside Coby, the old lady of the party. She is drawn against the paint but on a line through Trophy Wife’s stablemate Run For Revelry, as one example, looks held
by our first selection and will probably be relegated to place money again. Andrew Fortune jumps aboard Coby, who returns after a 25 week break, following some tough mixed company contests. A genuine staying sort, she could improve running fresh – but will battle to peg back Trophy Wife. St John Gray’s talented Angelic Appeal is a lightly raced 3yo who should
struggle on current form against the more seasoned talent.
Strong Hand
Sean Tarry undoubtedly holds all the aces here and it is difficult looking past Trophy Wife dominating the race. Her stablemate Inaninstant is still an unknown quantity, while London and Krystle Carrington look best of the rest.
