3.90 GPA SCORE

Playing rugby is at the heart of my life and has been since I joined my first team at the age of six. As my playing has developed, so have my ambitions to integrate it formally into a system where I can follow both my academic and sporting preferences. My careers department at school has been extremely helpful in supporting my research into the best academic and sporting pathways that I could take to help me achieve my goal. In Year 11, as I approached my GCSE’s, it became clear that the American Collegiate system offers everything that I am looking for in Higher Education, and I also established what a good match my student profile is in terms of what I can contribute. In addition to the student athlete lifestyle, the broad-based general education and strong liberal arts philosophy, is very attractive to me and provides the platform for maximum personal growth. The prospect of committing myself to only one subject for three years in a UK institution will limit my potential both inside the classroom and outside on the sports pitch. I am a passionate and dedicated sportsman, musician and artist, hence I am particularly interested in the flexible study programs that US universities have to offer. Attending The Fulbright Commission College Conference enabled me to speak to several providers and this consolidated my belief that attending university in the US is the right choice for me and that I am the right choice for them.

I am a committed, dedicated and strongly motivated team player. I have extremely high expectations of myself and of any team that I am involved with. My track record clearly demonstrates that my rugby playing ability is of the highest order. My experience of captaincy and leadership shows my natural aptitude and appetite for getting the best out of myself, and others playing alongside me. I fully understand the need to access the knowledge and skills available to me through the coaches, strength & conditioners, physios, fellow players etc. I take full ownership of my own development as an athlete on all levels and I actively pursue self-development opportunities to ensure that I am continually growing and being the best rugby player and team member that I can be. I am completely serious about my sport and I am an out and out clubman, which means I will wear my college colours with the utmost pride. I am also an openhearted, sociable, and optimistic team player who will relish the chance to contribute to a positive and achieving team dynamic.

I have a naturally high work ethic and I really enjoy balancing my rugby with my academic studies and other creative and community pursuits. I feel much more fulfilled as an individual when I am performing on a variety of levels and I have developed some practical techniques around diary management, making particular use of supporting technologies, to deliver high levels of reliability and success. Currently, I am responsible for my own training regime (including rest and recovery), study plan and regular music rehearsals and performances, whilst still helping out at home with my domestic duties and remaining committed to my local community. My ambition is to continue with this approach throughout my undergraduate studies and I firmly believe that as a college athlete in the US, I will be supported to continue to progress, perform and achieve at the highest academic and sporting standard.

I believe there will never be a better time to contribute to the development of rugby in America than now. I have benefitted hugely from the long established, high performing, development systems in the UK and I would like to use this experience, and my passion for the sport, to contribute to one of the most exciting expansions of rugby currently taking place in the US Colleges.
