Pole Vault

Welcome by Jessica Swannack Pole vaulting has become a very important part of my life over the last 3 years, and I feel I have come a long way in such a short space of time. Before I took up pole vaulting I was originally a gymnast for 6 years, training 6 days a week (24 hours in total), which enabled me to build up my core strength. I made the switch over to athletics in 2013 when I initially trained for sprinting & heptathlon, whilst being introduced to pole vaulting for the first time. This year my focus has been pole vault, however, I still compete for my club in other events when asked, mainly 100m, 110m hurdles and long jump. I always want to improve and be the best that I can be. In my opinion, the US has the best University set up to combine sports at the highest level, along with a good education. To reach my objectives and improve my performances, I'm looking to train with a great coach where facilities are excellent and I also get the chance to compete against high quality athletes. The idea of being part of the US set-up really excites me. I aim to be achieving over 4 metres this summer (on 13’ 7 pole), I'm confident that as my techniques is perfected, so will my PB’s. I have been selected to take part in the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme, which is aimed at developing potential elite athletes whilst also gaining an extra qualification. Workshops which are held at weekends cover topics such as, nutrition linked to performance, sports psychology, lifestyle, 100% me (drugs awareness in sports), social media and career planning. I'm highly motivated an enthusiastic about my sport as I enjoy what I do. I believe I work well under pressure and I thrive off adrenaline, which allows me to perform at big competitions.
