MATCH PREVIEW Two clubs bookending the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings will lock horns Saturday as the Swope Park Rangers (3-13-6, 15 points) host first-place New York Red Bulls II (15-5-5, 50 points) at Children’s Mercy Park. The visitors are vying for the top spot in the East as the playoff picture begins to take shape, while SPR will embrace the role of spoiler and aim to deliver a solid performance on home turf. Led by second-year head coach Paulo Nagamura, the Rangers took a 2-1 road loss at Atlanta United 2 last Friday, Aug. 16. Jackson Conway and a Jake Davis own goal put Atlanta ahead 2-0, but Davis responded to provide an excellent assist for Wilson Harris as a late SPR fightback fell just short.

Under the guidance of fifth-year head coach John Wolyniec, Red Bulls II earned an impressive 2-1 road win over Nashville SC on Wednesday before a crowd of over 7,000 at First Tennessee Park. Nashville took a 10th-minute lead through Ken Tribbett, but New York equalized just before halftime on a Jared Stroud goal and grabbed a game-winner on 71 minutes when Kyle Duncan found the back of the net. Red Bulls II won the first meeting between the clubs this season, taking a 3-1 opening-day victory on March 9 in Montclair, New Jersey.
