MLS CUP PLAYOFFS: COL 2 wins, 9 GF … KC 3 wins, 9 GF … 2 ties After Sanna Nyassi and Omar Cummings had partnered in attack over LaBauex Larentowicz the final three league games of the season, Rapids coach Gary Smith 11 23 moved Nyassi back to the flank for the wild card, installing Caleb Folan Mullan Nyassi alongside Cummings. “It was a more attacking lineup than usual,” Cummings 21 14 said. “We’ve been talking about it all day, even all week. We have to do it, we have to get to the next stage, the next game. We gave it our all and we move Folan Cummings on to the next stage.” ... Cummings came through with his first playoff goal as 17 Colorado defeated Columbus 1-0 in Commerce City for a second consecutive Sapong year. Cummings had scored just four goals in all competitions coming into the 99 23 game. “That’s the season if you don’t score, so I was not trying to concentrate Bravo Kamara on it too much,” Cummings said. “It’s playoff time and time to get some playoff 8 goals.” ... Brian Mullan, one of two five-time MLS Cup winners who is making Zusi his 11th consecutive appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs, operated on the 22 15 opposite flank and started the play leading to the lone goal. “He never ceases Arnaud Espinoza to amaze, does he?” Rapids head coach Gary Smith said. “He’s like a Duracell 16 7 battery, he just keeps going. He’s got enough passion to drive himself and plen5 78 Sinovic Myers ty of others on the team. On occasions like this, when you’re in or you’re out Besler Collin and there’s no coming back from a poor result or a bad mistake, you want guys like Brian on your team.” ... The Rapids also suffered a big blow late in the 1 game when Jamie Smith was stretchered off with what was diagnosed as a Nielsen torn ACL in his right knee. Smith will be out for the remainder of the postseason. ... The Rapids were without captain Pablo Mastroeni, still suffering from a REFEREE: Baldomero Toledo. concussion. Gary Smith said Mastroeni is considered doubtful for the first leg SAR (bench): Frank Anderson; JAR (opposite): Ian Anderson; against KC. “We’re running out of bodies in there, that’s for sure,” Gary Smith 4th: Juan Guzman said. “To try and keep the team as aggressive and experienced as possible might mean popping bodies into areas that they’re not necessarily comfortable INJURY REPORT: COLORADO RAPIDS -- OUT: FW Conor Casey or happy with. The Rapids took the lead in the 13th minute as Conor Casey latched onto a poor back pass from Sporting KC defender Aurelien Collin, rounded goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen and slid the ball toward goal. Sporting defender Matt Besler nearly cleared it off the line but only drove it into the net. But Sporting found the equalizer with a quarter-hour to play. ids (most recently the 0-0 draw with Real Salt Lake on October 14), and is currently in second place for Colorado’s all-time shutouts record. He needs three more to catch the leader, Joe Cannon, who earned 25 shutouts for the Rapids from 2003 to 2006.

During the 2011 regular season, the Rapids tied 1-1 with Sporting twice, once at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park and once at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

Injury Update Pablo Mastroeni suffered concussion during the Oct. 14 home match against Real Salt Lake and is listed at questionable on the injury report.

This is the first match of a two leg series for the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The second match will be played on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. MT at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. The team with the most total goals over the two matches will advance to the Conference Final, and if score is tied after both games, the series would be decided in either overtime or penalty kicks.

Anthony Wallace has begun rehab for his right knee surgery that will cause him to miss roughly three months while recovering. Conor Casey continues to recover from his season-ending injury, a ruptured left achilles tendon, suffered on July 16 at Seattle Sounders.

2011 MLS Cup Playoffs The Colorado Rapids defeated Columbus Crew on Thursday night 1-0 with a goal from Omar Cummings, assisted by Kosuke Kimura and Brian Mullan, to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Jamie Smith Out Rapids midfielder Jamie Smith will be out for the remainder of the season after suffering a torn right ACL in the 72nd minute of the 1-0 victory on Thursday night over Columbus Crew. Smith will undergo surgery on his knee on Tuesday morning and will miss approximately six months while recovering. Regular Season Recap Colorado ended the regular season on a 2-1 victory at Vancouver Whitecaps FC, bringing their total record to 12-9-13 and a historic 49 points. Ironman Moor Defender Drew Moor set an MLS record among field players on August 27 at Chicago Fire, playing the full 90 minutes in his 69th consecutive league match. However, by picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the match, Moor received a mandatory one match suspension and had to miss the Sept. 9 game at the LA Galaxy. Moor’s streak began on August 6, 2009 and consisted of 6,210 consecutive minutes of MLS regular-season action. 300 Club On August 20, Pablo Mastroeni started his 300th career match and became only the third MLS player to do so. He already leads the league for most all-time games started by an active MLS player. Tyrone Marshall holds second place on the list followed by Brian Mullan at#3 . Mastroeni played his 300th career game and his 200th Rapids game on June 18 against LA —only seven other players have played 300 MLS matches and at least 200 with one team. On May 7, Tyrone Marshall became the 13th player in MLS to play in 300 regular season matches. Season Streaks The Rapids set a team record going unbeaten in nine games (2-0-7) from April 30 to June 11. The LA Galaxy snapped the streak on June 18 with a 3-1 victory at DSGP. Previously, the longest unbeaten streak was eight matches from April 25 to June 24, 2009. The Rapids tied six consecutive matches from May 7 to June 4— the longest streak in a single MLS season and matched the all-time MLS record (San Jose recorded six ties over the end of the 2004 season and start of 2005).

2011 Golden Boot With his goal against Vancouver in the final match of the regular season, Jeff Larentowicz earned the Rapids 2011 Golden Boot with a career high seven goals in the regular season.
