Sporting Kansas City signed Portuguese defender Nuno André Coelho on Jan. 26, 2016. The center back has played more than 160 matches during a 12-year career in Europe, including seven appearances in the UEFA Champions League with Portuguese clubs SC Braga and FC Porto. Coelho most recently played for Balikesirspor of the Turkish Super Lig during the 2014-15 season.

During his final campaign at FC Porto in 2009-10, Coelho helped his club win the Taça de Portugal, the country’s premier knockout competition. After moving to Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2010, he joined SC Braga in 2011 and helped the club finish third in the 2011-12 Primiera Liga. Now in his sixth MLS season, Ellis developed in the Sporting KC Academy while attending Oak Park High School before playing at Barton County Community College from 2009-10. Sporting KC signed midfielder Jordi Quintilla in August 2015. Currently the youngest Spaniard in Major League Soccer, he made nine appearances in all competitions during the final two months of the season with three starts. He led NCAA Division I as a sophomore with 0.74 assists per game (14 assists) in 2013 and earned first team All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 2013 and 2014.
