Daniel Salloi - MVP Caliber Season Daniel Salloi was the focal point in a lethal Sporting Kansas City attack in 2021. The Sporting KC Academy product led the team in goals (16), assists (eight) and total goal contributions (24) en route to becoming club MVP. His on-field performance turned heads on the national stage as well. Salloi was nominated for the 2021 Landon Donovan MLS Most Valubale Player award and the MLS Comeback Player of the Year. Salloi is one of five players in club history to be named a finalist for MLS MVP alongside Preki (1996, 1997, 2003), Tony Meola (2000), Graham Zusi (2012) and Benny Feilhaber (2015). Salloi’s 16 non-penalty goals were tied for a league lead, and the most all time by a Sporting player. It was a career season for the forward as he set career marks in goals and assists. Sporting went undefeated in matches where Salloi scored, boasting an 11-0-3 record in said matches. With Salloi’s 24 goal contributions, Sporting ranked second in the league with 58 goals scored and was one win shy of tying their club record in a 34-match regular season. Salloi’s nomination for Comeback Player of the Year is thanks to the his rebound performance from a 2020 season in which he logged just 165 minutes. Salloi was an eight-time MLS Team of the Week selection this season and took home MLS Player of the Week Honors on Sept. 30, a day after scoring twice in a 3-1 win over FC Dallas. His 2021 form earned him a spot on the MLS All-Star squad that took down the LIGA MX AllStars in a penalty shootout. Salloi converted his spot kick. The Hungarian earned his first senior national team appearance on Sept. 2, and his first start on Oct. 9 against Albania. SPORTING KANSAS CITY 2021 TEAM AWARD WINNERS

MLS CUP PLAYOFFS QUALIFICATION AND FORMAT
At the end of the 2021 MLS Regular Season, the top seven teams from both the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference (14 Clubs total) qualified for the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will again consist of single-elimination matches hosted by the higherseeded team and follow a straight bracket format through MLS Cup on Dec. 11. Qualification for the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs was determined by points earned in each respective conference (three points for a win, one point for a tie, zero points for a loss).
EXTRA TIME AND PENALTY SHOOTOUTS
If a match is tied through 90 minutes of regulation, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played in their entirety. If the score remains tied after the extra time periods, a penalty shootout will determine the winner. Five substitutions per club are permitted over the course of three opportunities excluding halftime. Similar to the MLS regular season, a maximum of two concussion substitutes will be available to both clubs. If a club does not use all five of their permitted substitutes and all three of their opportunities during regulation, they are permitted to use them during extra time. Available substitutions during extra time can be used during the period between the end of regulation and the start of the first extra time period, or after the end of the first 15-minute extra time period without using an
MLS CUP PLAYOFFS DISCIPLINARY GUIDELINES DISCIPLINARY GUIDELINES • • • • •
Yellow card accumulation thresholds for players, coaches, and team officials are reset entering the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs. A player, coach, or team official who reached an accumulation threshold in the last 2021 MLS Regular Season match (e.g. 3rd for coaches and team officials, 5th, 8th, etc. for players) is eligible for the first match of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and is eligible for the first regular season match of 2022. A player, coach, or team official who received a red card or second yellow in his last 2021 MLS Regular Season match is suspended for the next match for which that individual is eligible, including the first match of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs or the first regular season match of 2022. A player, coach, or team official sanctioned by the MLS Disciplinary Committee during the 2021 MLS Regular Season and/or Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs will have any corresponding suspension applied to the next match(es) for which that individual is eligible, including Audi MLS Cup Playoff match(es) or the next season’s regular season match(es). Cautions for players and team officials issued during the match (regulation and extra time) are not carried forward to kicks from the penalty mark.
YELLOW CARD ACCUMULATION Once the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs begin and up until MLS Cup when playoff yellow card accumulation will again reset: • A player receiving a yellow card in Round One and a yellow card in the Conference Semifinal will be suspended for the Conference Championship. For clarification, a player who earns a second cumulative yellow card in the Conference Championship is eligible to play in MLS Cup. • If a player’s club does not advance to the next round of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs after the player receives a second yellow card in consecutive matches, the suspension will not carry over into the next MLS Regular Season. • A player who is issued two yellow cards in the same match is suspended for his next match for which he eligible, including an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs round match, MLS Cup, and/or his next MLS Regular Season match. • If a coach or staff member receives a total of two yellow cards during the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, that individual will be suspended for the next match unless the next match is MLS Cup. To clarify, a team official who receives their second yellow card in the Conference Final will be available for MLS Cup. RED CARDS AND YELLOW CARD ACCUMULATION •
A player receiving a straight red card in the same match in which he previously received a second cumulative yellow card will be suspended for his next Audi MLS Cup Playoffs match. Example: A player receives a yellow card in his Round One match. He then receives a yellow card and a straight red card (not a second yellow)in the Conference Semifinal. The player will serve his red card suspension during the Conference Final. However, yellow cards reset before MLS Cup, and the player will be eligible to play in the championship match. Red Card Suspensions •
A player who receives a red card in any Audi MLS Cup Playoff match, whether it is a straight red card or two yellow cards, is suspended for his next match. Example: If the red card is issued during his club’s last postseason match, including MLS Cup, the suspension carries over to the first Regular Season match of 2022 MLS Regular Season. Example: If player receives a straight red card in the Conference Final, and his team advances, that player will serve his red card suspension in MLS Cup. Disciplinary Committee Disciplinary Committee sanctions will be applied to the next match in which a player is eligible, including any round of the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, MLS Cup, or the 2022 MLS Regular Season. If a player receives a yellow card in a game, but the Disciplinary Committee issues a one match (or more) suspension, the original yellow card will not be counted toward the player’s yellow card accumulation total. All incidents reviewed by the MLS Disciplinary Committee in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will be evaluated through the same process as the MLS Regular Season and will be consistent with parameters outlined in the 2021 MLS Competition Guidelines. 10
