SPORTING KANSAS CITY vs HOUSTON DYNAMO SPORTING PARK, Kansas City, Kan. May 26, 2013 (WEEK 13, MLS Game #119)

2:30 p.m. CT (NBC SN)

Just two weeks after ending the Houston Dynamo’s long home undefeated run, Sporting Kansas City now play host when the Eastern Conference clubs face off Sunday afternoon at Sporting Park before an NBC Sports Network audience. Sporting return home off a two-game road trip that ended with a 1-1 draw at D.C. United last weekend. The Dynamo are coming off a second consecutive home loss, this time a 2-0 reverse by the New England Revolution. REFEREE: Drew Fischer. Aurélien Collin’s header in the 73rd minute was the only goal of the game as Sporting put an end to the Dynamo’s 30-game league home undefeated streak on May 12 at BBVA Compass Stadium.  It was the first victory for the road team in the series since 2009, and Sporting’s second win ever in Houston. A year ago, both league meetings at Sporting Park ended in draws.  The teams met in the MLS Cup Playoffs for a second consecutive season last year, the Dynamo winning their semifinal series 2-1 on aggregate. In 2011, the Dynamo won 2-0 in the Eastern Conference Championship at Sporting Park.  Coaches record: Peter Vermes vs. HOU: P9 W3 L2 D4 … Dominic Kinnear vs. KC: P22 W8 L6 D8 LAST MEETING (MLS) 5/12: HOU 0, KC 1 (Collin 73)  The game's lone goal came after 73 minutes. SKC fullback Seth Sinovic found Aurelien Collin on a long throwin into the penalty area and he flicked the ball past Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall, despite the best efforts of Corey Ashe to clear the shot off the line.  KC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen made three saves for seventh shutout of the season. Sporting became the first visiting team to win at BBVA Compass Stadium, and the first to win in Houston since June 18, 2011.  HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-1-4-1): Tally Hall - Kofi Sarkodie (Brian Ching 77), Jermaine Taylor (Eric Brunner 46), Bobby Boswell, Corey Ashe - Adam Moffat (Jason Johnson 77) - Boniek Garcia, Brad Davis, Ricardo Clark, Andrew Driver - Will Bruin.  SPORTING KANSAS CITY (4-1-2-3): Jimmy Nielsen - Mechack Jerome, Ike Opara, Aurelien Collin, Seth Sinovic - Oriol Rosell (Lawrence Olum 61) - Paulo Nagamura, Peterson Joseph - Jacob Peterson (Kei Kamara 55), Claudio Bieler (C.J. Sapong 87), Graham Zusi. SPORTING KANSAS CITY Sporting Kansas City concluded their two-game road trip with a second result, gaining a 1-1 draw with D.C. United on Sunday afternoon at RFK Stadium. Sporting are in second place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points from 13 matches. LAST MATCH  Kansas City took the lead at the hour mark. Via a corner kick by Graham Zusi, defender Ike Opara jumped to head the ball and the ball sailed past, deflecting off the head of United defender Ethan White and into the net.  But the home side were even five minutes later. Chris Pontius delivered a beautiful ball from the left flank to Kyle Porter, and he slipped a picture-perfect finish inside the back post from inside the goal area.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

Sporting manager Peter Vermes made two changes to the team that took a 1-0 victory against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium. Matt Besler and Benny Feilhaber came back into the team in place of the suspended Aurelien Collin and Oriol Rosell.  SPORTING KANSAS CITY (4-2-1-3): Jimmy Nielsen - Mechack Jerome, Ike Opara, Matt Besler, Seth Sinovic Paulo Nagamura, Benny Feilhaber (Kei Kamara 64) - Peterson Joseph (Lawrence Olum 46) - Graham Zusi, Claudio Bieler, Jacob Peterson (Josh Gardner 76). LAST MATCH  Sporting return home for consecutive games after taking four points from their two-game road trip. They have three wins on the road this season, tied for in MLS, along with four other clubs. They have not won back-toback games since winning three in a row March 30-April 17.  “Our consistency is really now starting to come and that's a great quality to have within your team. And I feel good about that aspect,” said SKC manager Peter Vermes.  A real talking point after the match was an apparent goal by Ike Opara in the 30th minute, which was ruled out for offside. Both the assistant referee and the Professional Referees Organization said the call was in error, and the goal should have stood.  “Whether [the assistant referee] lost concentration, whether he just doesn't know the rules, there were just a lot of different things where the guy made a big mistake,” Vermes said. “It's unfortunate, because it's two points over the course of the season.” Said Graham Zusi: “Can they give us the two points? No. I'd like to see it be called correctly the first time.”  While Matt Besler was able to return to the lineup after missing three matches with a knee sprain, Ike Opara started a fourth consecutive game in central defense with Aurelien Collin serving a one-match ban for caution accumulation.  “I think he's been a good addition to our team, for a number of reasons. But more importantly, he's adapted quickly and has given us a look that we need, especially with the three competitions we're playing this year,” said Vermes. “ … It's not even experience – he has qualities that, his recovery speed to get back and cover a guy, his aerial presence is absolutely incredible. It's dominant. So, [he's] a great addition to our team.”  Said Opara: “He's defender of the year. I mean, he's a guy that, you know, for me, when I play in place of him or Collin or whatever, I know that team is most likely going to think of me as a weak link. Or maybe because I'm not so much proven [as] these guys. But for me it's a challenge to raise my level to their level and be just as good as them on the day. That's what I take pride in.”  Mechack Jerome started his second consecutive match, and third in the last four matches, at right back.  “He's defended very well from that position,” Vermes said. “There's no doubt in my mind that he could maybe be at times a little better going forward, but that comes with a little time with our team – understanding who goes when and your anticipation of the situation, but he has adapted and adjusted well to our team at this moment, and I'm happy with his performance thus far.”  Chance Myers, who has missed three of the last four games with Jerome starting in his absence, could be available this weekend.  “He'll be good to go,” said Vermes. “I think he's good to go right now, to be sure.” Said Myers: “I'm close. We're just playing it by ear now, and I'll be back out there soon.”  Said Zusi: "That's one thing that this year's team has, I think more than we ever have, is that depth. Not just at that center back position, really at a lot of positions. So, I think with our scheduling this year, with the amount of games we'll be playing, you'll be seeing a lot of impact from, probably, every single man on this roster." HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo lost for the second time in as many matches at home, dropping a 2-0 decision to the New England Revolution on Saturday evening at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo are in a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points from 12 matches. LAST MATCH  Both teams were a man down before the first half was over. On a Revolution free kick, Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell and Revolution forward Dimitry Imbongo tangled, and referee Edvin Jurisevic reached for the red card and sent off both players.  The Revs took the lead six minutes into the second half. Diego Fagundez played a nifty give-and-go with Clyde Simms before making a weaving run into the penalty area and tucking his ensuing shot inside the near post for the opener.  New England hit for a second six minutes from the field. With the Dynamo caught with numbers forward trying to find the equalizer, Chris Tierney found Juan Agudelo on the left side of the area. He tried to corral a deflected pass, deflecting it off the Dynamo's Ricardo Clark and over the goal line before it could be cleared.  Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made one change to the team that lost 1-0 to Sporting Kansas City at BBVA Compass Stadium. Giles Barnes came back into the side in place of Adam Moffat.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-1-3-2): Tally Hall - Kofi Sarkodie, Jermaine Taylor (Eric Brunner 10), Bobby Boswell (sent off 40), Corey Ashe - Ricardo Clark, Boniek Garcia, Andrew Driver, Brad Davis (Brian Ching 75) - Giles Barnes (Adam Moffat 43), Will Bruin. TEAM NEWS  After losing at home for the first time in two years, the Dynamo have now lost back-to-back home games for the first time since Sept. 5-Oct. 10, 2010, when they lost three in a row to San Jose, Toronto and New England.  “When you lose two games at home, these are bad things, but we still are a very good team,” said goalkeeper Tally Hall. “We still have some of the best talent in the league and as a team, when we play well together we are the best team in the league.”  The Dynamo have also been shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since last July 3-7, when they were in consecutive scoreless draws with Chicago and Sporting KC.  “I’m very disappointed with the way we played tonight. It was 1-0 and I thought we had created a lot of chances, but we just could not put the ball in the back of the net,” said Kinnear. “We had to risk going forward and they scored a goal. Other than that, I’m just disappointed.”  The Dynamo will meet SKC for a second time in three weeks with a rebuilt back four. Jermaine Taylor was forced off after just 10 minutes vs. New England with a shoulder injury.  In addition, Bobby Boswell was sent off before the first half was over and will also be serving a ban that was extended to two matches following a decision by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.  “We don’t know yet,” Kinnear said about the center back position. “We do have an idea but it’s only Tuesday and the game’s Sunday. Eric [Brunner] is a center back so he can play in there and the other guy we’ll see. It could be Jermaine or it could be someone else.”  Giles Barnes returned to the lineup after missing the SKC match with an injury, but he was sacrificed in favor of midfielder Adam Moffat following the sending off of Boswell.  “Just a disjointed effort,” Hall said. “I think we were giving everything we had but we weren’t working smart. You’re not going to win a lot of games if you’re not working smart. It feels terrible right now. I don’t often remember feeling this bad after a game.”

DYNAMO VISIT SPORTING KANSAS CITY FOR SECOND MEETING IN TWO WEEKS The Houston Dynamo (6‐4‐2; 20 points) visit Sporting Kansas City (6‐4‐3; 21 points) at Sporting Park on Sunday afternoon for a revival of the Eastern Conference rivalry after the clubs met on May 12 in Houston. Sporting Kansas City snapped Houston’s MLS record 36‐game home unbeaten streak with a 1‐0 win that evening. The Dynamo dropped another home game on Saturday, a 2‐0 defeat to New England, with Bobby Boswell ejected in the first half alongside Revolution forward Dimitry Imbongo. Sporting KC secured a 1‐1 road draw with D.C. United on Sunday.

HOUSTON VS. KANSAS CITY The Dynamo are 6‐4‐6 all‐time in regular season games against Sporting Kansas City, including a 1‐0 defeat on May 12. The clubs met five times last year, with three regular season games and two more in the playoffs. The Dynamo went 1‐0‐2 in the regular season meetings, securing a 2‐1 home win on July 18 while the clubs drew both encounters in Kansas, 0‐0 on July 7 and 1‐1 on September 14. Houston is 3‐2‐3 all‐time in regular season road games at Kansas City. The Dynamo defeated Sporting KC in the playoffs the last two seasons, a 2‐0 road win in the Eastern Conference final in 2011 and a 2‐1 aggregate series victory in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season.

DYNAMO NOTES Dynamo fall to New England Revolution: The New England Revolution scored two second half goals for a 2‐0 win over the Dynamo on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. Diego Fagundez delivered a 1‐0 lead for the Revs before an own goal from Dynamo defender Ricardo Clark completed the scoring for New England. The Dynamo have lost two consecutive home games for only the third time in franchise history. Houston lost two straight at home in 2007 and three consecutive home games in 2010. Both clubs were reduced to ten players in the 40th minute. During a New England corner kick, Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell and Revolution forward Dimitry Imbongo each went to the ground after violent conduct in the box. Both players were issued a red card and ejected from the game. Earlier in the half, Houston defender Jermaine Taylor left the game in the tenth minute with a left shoulder injury. The Revolution took the lead six minutes after halftime. Fagundez received the ball on the right flank and drove toward the penalty area before passing to Clyde Simms, who laid the ball back in Fagundez’ path. The 18‐year‐old took a touch into the box and found the net for his third goal of the season and a 1‐0 lead. New England doubled its lead in the 84th minute. Chris Tierney received a pass on the left side of the penalty area and forced a sliding save from Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall. The rebound bounced near New England forward Juan Agudelo and Clark, and Agudelo’s shot skipped off Clark and into the net for an own goal and 2‐0 Revolution advantage. Houston had several quality chances to score and outshot the Revolution 20‐10 on the night.

DYNAMO IN HISTORIC HOME TERRITORY 

Dynamo snap MLS record home unbeaten streak: The 1‐0 loss to Sporting Kansas City on May 12 ended the Dynamo’s league record home unbeaten streak at 36 games in all competitions (includes regular season, playoffs and CONCACAF Champions League). The streak included: 30 regular season games, a 2011 playoff win over Philadelphia (31 overall), two Champions League games in 2012 (33), playoff victories over Sporting KC and D.C. United in 2012 (35) and a Champions League win over Santos Laguna on March 5 (36). Houston broke Real Salt Lake’s 34‐game record with a 2‐1 win over the Chicago Fire on April 14 and set the current mark at 36 games with a 1‐1 draw against Colorado on April 28.

The Dynamo also set new MLS regular season home unbeaten streak record: The loss to Sporting KC also snapped Houston’s league record regular season home unbeaten streak at 30 games, which was set with a 1‐1 draw vs. Colorado on April 28. The streak eclipsed Real Salt Lake’s previous regular season record of 29 games. The Dynamo had not lost a home game in over 22 months, with their previous home defeat on June 18, 2011, a 2‐0 loss to Columbus. COMPARING THE STREAKS: HOUSTON DYNAMO VS. REAL SALT LAKE Just over two years ago (April 27, 2011), Real Salt Lake’s historic 34‐game home unbeaten streak (in all competitions) came to an end with a 1‐0 home loss to C.F. Monterrey in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final. The run at home set a benchmark for home dominance that seemed untouchable to many. After all, only three teams in MLS history had regular season home unbeaten streaks of 18 games or more: Columbus Crew (22 games, 2008‐09); LA Galaxy (18 games, 2010‐ 11) and the San Jose Earthquakes (18 games, 2004‐05). When comparing the Real Salt Lake’s streak from 2009‐11 to the Dynamo’s home streak from 2011‐13 that ended with a 1‐0 loss to Sporting Kansas City on May 12, they are amazingly similar in results and share several related themes. First, both clubs boasted fantastic defensive records at home, with Real Salt Lake conceding only 18 goals during their 34‐game home streak and the Dynamo allowing just 25 goals during their 36‐game home run. Here is a look at home the home unbeaten streaks compare, beginning with the respective streaks in all competitions (includes regular season, playoffs and CONCACAF Champions League): Houston Dynamo (2011‐2013) – 36 games ‐ 26 wins‐0 losses‐10 draws – 70 Goals For, 25 Goals Against Real Salt Lake (2009‐11) – 34 games – 25 wins‐0 losses‐9 draws – 73 Goals For, 18 Goals Against How the streak was built: Houston Dynamo ‐ 36 games: 30 regular season, 3 playoffs, 3 Champions League Real Salt Lake – 34 games: 27 regular season, 2 playoffs, 5 Champions League Opponents faced during streak: Houston Dynamo – 20 clubs – 17 MLS opponents* and three more in the Champions League: C.D. FAS (El Salvador), C.D. Olimpia (Honduras), and Club Santos Laguna (Mexico) Real Salt Lake – 18 clubs – 15 MLS opponents** and three more in the Champions League: Arabe Unido (Panama), Cruz Azul (Mexico) and Deportivo Saprissa (Costa Rica) *The Dynamo played every team in MLS during the streak except Chivas USA. ** Real Salt Lake defeated every other MLS team during its streak, except Portland, Vancouver and Montreal. Portland and Vancouver entered MLS in 2011 and didn’t play at Salt Lake before the streak ended. Montreal joined MLS in 2012. Most common victim: Houston Dynamo: D.C. United – The Dynamo hosted D.C. United four times during the streak (three times in regular season and once in the playoffs) and won all four games. Real Salt Lake: Colorado Rapids – Real Salt Lake faced its Rocky Mountain rivals four times at home during its streak and avoided a defeat to its rivals with a 2‐0‐2 mark. Now, a look at the regular season streak for each club: Houston Dynamo – 30 games: 21 wins‐0 losses‐9 draws – 57 Goals For, 23 Goals Against Real Salt Lake – 29 games: 20 wins‐0 losses‐9 draws – 57 Goals For, 13 Goals Against

DYNAMO NOTES 

Ashe earns fist senior national team call‐up ahead of Belgium friendly: Dynamo defender Corey Ashe was added to the U.S. men’s national team roster for its game against Belgium on May 29 in Cleveland, Ohio. Ashe, 27, is the third Dynamo player named to the national team for upcoming games. He will join midfielder Brad Davis at the national team camp in Cleveland on May 27 following Houston’s game at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday. Following the friendly against Belgium at FirstEnergy Stadium, Ashe will return to the Dynamo ahead of their match at the Columbus Crew on June 1. Ashe will join the senior national team for the first time after gaining experience in the youth levels. The defender was part of the U‐23 national team at the Toulon Tournament in 2008 and appeared in all three games. Ashe also represented the U.S. at the FIFA U‐17 World Championships in 2003. Drafted by the Dynamo in 2007, Ashe has become a fixture at left back, starting 30 games in each of the last two seasons and all 12 games this year. The Virginia Beach, VA native is second on Houston’s all‐ time games played list in all competitions (220 games) and regular season games (172 games). Ashe was named to the MLS All‐Star team in 2011.

Brad Davis hits two major milestones: Saturday’s game vs. New England was Brad Davis’ 250th appearance for Houston in all competitions. It was also the captain’s 200th career regular season game with the Dynamo. He is the franchise leader in both categories. Davis is now just three appearances away from reaching 300 regular season games in his 12‐year MLS career (includes New York, Dallas and San Jose years). Brad Davis, Tally Hall named to U.S. men’s national team roster for June World Cup qualifiers: Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis and goalkeeper Tally Hall were named to the U.S. men’s national team roster by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Davis will join the national team camp in Cleveland on May 27 following Houston’s game at Sporting Kansas City on Sunday and be with the team for its friendly against Belgium on May 29. Davis will be available to the national team through the June 18 World Cup qualifier against Honduras. Hall will remain with the Dynamo through the June 1 match at Columbus before joining the national team in Washington D.C. before its trip to Jamaica for a World Cup qualifying match on June 7. Hall will return to the Dynamo following the match in Jamaica. Davis, 31, has earned seven caps with the U.S. men’s national team, including an appearance in a 0‐0 draw at Mexico on March 26 for his first cap in a World Cup qualifier. Hall, 28, will appear in his second career senior national team camp after making his debut in January. Boniek Garcia named to Honduras roster for June World Cup qualifiers: Dynamo midfielder Boniek Garcia was named to the roster for the Honduran national teamʹs upcoming friendlies and World Cup qualifiers. Garcia will leave the Dynamo following Sundayʹs match at Sporting KC and will return following Hondurasʹ World Cup qualifier against the United States on June 18. Garcia enters the camp with 81 career appearances for the Honduran national team. He has featured in each of Hondurasʹ three qualifiers in the Hexagonal group and assisted on the game‐winning goal in a 2‐1 win over the United States on February 6. Los Catrachos will hold their training camp in Tegucigalpa, Honduras before heading to New York for a friendly against Israel on June 2. Next up, World Cup qualifiers at Costa Rica (June 7) and against Jamaica at home (June 11). Honduras will conclude the month with a match against the United States on June 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Six of nine games on road: The Dynamo are currently in a stretch of six road games out of nine that began on April 20 in Toronto and ends on June 19 in Montreal. Houston has fared better on the road than at home, with road wins over the Galaxy and D.C. United and a draw at Toronto FC for a seven‐point return from the first three road games of the stretch. The Dynamo have gained just one point from the three home games, with a 1‐1 draw vs. Colorado on April 28 preceding home defeats to Sporting KC and New England. The Dynamo finish the road‐heavy stretch with three consecutive road games starting Sunday at Sporting Kansas City. Houston will also visit the Columbus Crew (June 1) and Montreal Impact (June 19) before returning home on June 22 to host Toronto FC. Dynamo looking to snap two‐game losing streak: The Dynamo have lost two consecutive league games for the first time since last May, when they dropped consecutive games ‐ 4/28/12 at D.C. United and 5/9/12 at New York – on the road. The Dynamo have not lost three consecutive MLS games since 2010, when the club lost four in a row from 8/28 to 9/22 (at Colorado, vs. San Jose, vs. Toronto and at Kansas City).

Boswell suspended additional game for violent conduct: The MLS Disciplinary Committee suspended Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell one additional game for violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent, Revolution forward Dimitry Imbongo in the 39th minute of their game on Saturday. Boswell was issued a red card for the offense, and the Committee unanimously determined that Boswell’s head butt was an egregious act that required further sanction. Boswell will serve a total suspension of two games – this Sunday at Sporting Kansas City and June 1 at the Columbus Crew. Red card rarity: Bobby Boswell was issued a red card on Saturday against New England for only his third red card in 257 career MLS games (playoffs included). He is the third Dynamo player this season to receive a red card with a resume that is light on ejections. Brad Davis received a red card in second half stoppage time against Colorado on April 28. It was Davis’ first red card since 2009 and just the fourth of his career (319 career MLS games, including playoffs). Jermaine Taylor saw red in the 62nd minute at Toronto on April 20 for a challenge on Robert Earnshaw. It was the first red card Taylor has received in three seasons (56 career MLS games, including playoffs) with Houston. Cold Blooded: The Dynamo lost to the New England Revolution on Saturday under rare circumstances‐ the game time temperature was 82 degrees. It was just the third Houston defeat since 2011 with the game time temperature at 80 degrees or more. The Dynamo went 12‐1‐4 in 2012 when the temperature was 80 degrees or above, with 14 of the 17 games at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston was 9‐1‐6 in temperatures of 80+ in 2011, so the club is now 22‐3‐10 since 2011 when the temperature is 80 degrees or more. Will Bruin named MLS Player of the Week: Dynamo forward Will Bruin was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 11 (ending May 12) of the 2013 season. Bruin pulled off a spectacular feat in Houston’s 4‐0 win over D.C. United on May 8 as he was involved in all four goals. Bruin scored twice and had two assists to give the Dynamo their sixth win of the season. It was his third career multi‐goal game against D.C. United and his first two‐assist game of his career. The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. Dynamo record two road wins in four days for first time in team history: The Dynamo won two road games in a four‐day span for the first time in club history, with a 1‐0 win at the Galaxy on May 5 followed by a 4‐0 triumph at D.C. United on May 8. Playing two consecutive road games in four days is rare in club history, with the most recent occurrence in 2010, when the Dynamo lost both games in visits to New York (2‐1 loss) on June 2 and the LA Galaxy (4‐1 loss) on June 5. Dynamo match largest road win in franchise history: The 4‐0 win at D.C. United on May 8 matched the largest road win in club history, Houston’s 4‐0 road triumph at Chicago on July 12, 2007.

 

Dynamo win consecutive road games for third time in club history: The two‐win road trip from May 5‐8 was the third time in club history the Dynamo have won two consecutive home games without a home game in between the road wins. Neither occasion came within a four‐day span. Last year, Houston won its first two road games of the season – a 1‐0 win at Chivas USA on May 11 and a 1‐0 victory at San Jose on March 17. In 2007, the Dynamo won consecutive road games, a 3‐1 road win over the Galaxy on Sept. 16 and a 3‐0 road triumph at FC Dallas on Sept. 30. Better late than never: The Dynamo have scored 8 of 17 goals in the 2013 regular season after the 75th minute, the most late goals in MLS. In addition, Houston has scored 10 of 17 goals after the 60th minute, and 12 of 17 goals after halftime. The late goals continue a trend for Houston, which set a franchise record with 17 goals in the final 15 minutes of games in 2012 after scoring 14 late goals in 2011. The 17 late goals in a season were historic, with only the 2012 San Jose Earthquakes (22) and 2009 Real Salt Lake (19) scoring more goals after the 75th minute since 2006 (more details on page 8). The Dynamo also scored a late goal (Brad Davis, 89th minute) in a 1‐0 win over Santos Laguna on March 5.

Dynamo milestones and other notes from 4‐0 win over D.C. United on May 8:  Will Bruin became the first player in Dynamo history to score two goals and deliver two assists in a single game.  According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Bruin was the first MLS player to record a two‐goal, two‐assist game since MLS all‐time scoring leader Jeff Cunningham pulled it off in 1999.  It was also Bruin’s first two‐assist game in his three‐year career. Bruin now has 25 career goals in all competitions.  Brian Ching assisted on Bruin’s second goal on May 8 for his 30th career assist with the Dynamo in all competitions. Ching passed Brian Mullan for second on the franchise list. Brad Davis is the franchise leader with 91 assists.  May 8 was Corey Ashe’s 150th start with the Dynamo in all competitions. He is the seventh Dynamo player in club history to make 150 starts, joining Davis, Bobby Boswell, Pat Onstad, Mullan, Ching, and Ricardo Clark.

Dynamo gain first road win against Galaxy since 2007: Houston’s 1‐0 win on May 5 was its first road win against the Galaxy since Sept. 16, 2007, a 3‐1 win at the Home Depot Center. Houston was winless in seven straight games on the road at LA, with an 0‐6‐1 record, including three playoff defeats, before the May 5 win.

Dynamo become third team in U.S. pro sports history to play 20 games in new stadium without defeat: With a 2‐0 win over San Jose on March 30, the Dynamo became one of only three teams in the history of the major North American professional sports leagues to go undefeated in their first 20 regular season games at a home venue. The Dynamo were undefeated in 22 regular season games at BBVA Compass Stadium before the 1‐0 loss to Sporting KC on May 12. The first team to reach 20 home games in a new home without defeat was the Washington Capitols of the Basketball Association of America (predecessor of todayʹs NBA), who won their first 27 games at Uline Arena in 1946‐1947. The team was coached by Red Auerbach (his first season in the league). The second team to go undefeated in their first 20 regular season games at a home venue was the Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA, who won their first 22 games at Staples Center (2001‐2002). *Note courtesy of the Elias Sports Bureau, Official Statistician of Major League Soccer.

Hall breaks former mentor Pat Onstad’s shutout record: Goalkeeper Tally Hall recorded 12 shutouts in the 2012 regular season, eclipsing former teammate Pat Onstad, who set an individual franchise record with 11 shutouts in 2007, when the club had a total of 13 clean sheets in 30 regular season games. Hall finished tied for second in the league in shutouts, trailing Jimmy Nielsen of Sporting Kansas City (15).

Davis reaches 20 for second straight season: Brad Davis has reached a combined 20 goals and assists each of the last two years, with 8 goals (a career‐high) and 12 assists in 2012, after the midfielder reached 20 with 4 goals and 16 assists (another career‐high) in 2011.
