The Swope Park Rangers played to a 00 draw with Arizona United SC in the club's second game at the Desert Diamond Cup preseason tournament at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. AZU almost went ahead in the opening moments when James Nortey's effort hit the bar, before SPR responded with chances of their own from Christian Duke and Tyler Pasher. Jon Kempin was called into action to make a stunning save from a corner before Dane Kelly fired over when well placed. In the second half, Jose Cuevas curled a free kick against the post while SPR's Ryan James saw the final chance of the game go begging.

After starting the season 101 on the road, SPR has gone 151 in their last seven away games for a combined record of 252 claiming eight of the club's 20 points away from home.

Didic received the honor for Week 14 and Week 15, becoing just the seventh player to earn the recognition in backto back weeks this season. The 21yearold is the youngest player to have performed that feat, while he is the second rookie to do so after STL's Vince Cicciarelli in Weeks 2 and 3.

The roster includes five teenagers in Jaylin Lindsey (16), Ezra Armstrong (17), Will Little (18), Steven Tekesky (18) and Nansel Selbol (19), while the oldest players on the squad are Zac Lubin and Tommy Meyer, both 26. The leaguewide average age is 24.2, with FC Montreal boasting the youngest team with a mean of 21.5 while Saturday's opponents Arizona United SC are the oldest with an average age of 27.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR There are nine members of the Swope Park Rangers that were born outside of the U.S. and Canada. Ayrton (Brazil), Oumar Ballo (Mali), Amadou Dia (France), Amer Didic (Bosnia & Herzegovina), Tomas Granitto (El Salvador), Dane Kelly (Jamaica), Kevin Oliveira (Cape Verde), Nansel Selbol (Nigeria) and Ualefi (Brazil) were all born outside of North America. Each USL team is permitted seven Foreign Players on their roster, and the Rangers occupy five with Ballo, Dia, Didic and Granitto qualifying as domestic players.

USL EXPANSION SEASON The 2016 campaign is the Swope Park Rangers' USL expansion season. For the eight MLSowned USL teams that entered the league prior to the Rangers, only three qualified for the postseason in their initial campaign. LA Galaxy II made it to the semifinals in 2014 while New York Red Bulls II advanced to the Eastern Conference Semifinals and Seattle Sounders FC 2 were eliminated in the Western Conference First Round in 2015. FC Montreal, Portland Timbers 2, Real Monarchs, Toronto FC II and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 did not qualify for the USL Playoffs in their inaugural season in 2015.

POTENT STRIKEFORCE On Dec. 16, 2015 the Swope Park Rangers announced the signings of Dane Kelly and Kris Tyrpak, who combined for 20 goals in the USL regular season in 2015. Kelly is the USL's alltime leading scorer with 43 goals, 42 with the Charelston Battery, while Kris Tyrpak has scored goals in MLS, NASL, USL and USL PDL. In all competitions last season, Kelly (12) and Tyrpak (11) had 23 goals between them, while Kelly has one and Tyrpak has three so far in 2016. Arizona United SC are led by Tyler Blackwood and Long Tan, who have four goals each.

USL EXPERIENCE Of the 24 players on the Swope Park Rangers' current roster, eight have previously played in the USL. Most notably, Dane Kelly is the USL's all time leading scorer with 43 goals since joining the league in 2011. Christian Duke spent the last two seasons with OKC Energy FC, helping the side to a playoff berth in 2015. Tommy Meyer was minutes from claiming the 2015 USL Championship as his LA Galaxy II side fell to the Rochester Rhinos in extra time. Kris Tyrpak spent the 2015 season with the Austin Aztex, scoring nine goals for his hometown club. Jon Kempin (Orlando City SC, OKC Energy FC) spent time on loan at Sporting KC's former affiliates. Johnny Grant (FC Montreal), Zac Lubin (Tulsa Roughnecks FC) and Tyler Pasher (Pittsburgh Riverhounds) also have USL experience. STRAIGHT OUTTA MLS While there is a significant amount of USL knowhow in the squad, two players also boast MLS experience Tommy Meyer and Kris Tyrpak. Meyer was drafted in the first round of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy and went on to make 57 appearances in all competitions for the club, winning MLS Cup in 2012 and 2014. Tyrpak was drafted by Chivas USA in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, tallying one goal against the Colorado Rapids and one assist against FC Dallas before the club folded at the end of that season. Two further players were also signed by MLS teams but did not make an appearance: Oumar Ballo was drafted by the Houston Dynamo in 2015 and Christian Duke spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons with Sporting KC.

ACADEMY TIES On March 10, the Swope Park Rangers announced the signings of Ezra Armstrong, Will Little and Steven Tekesky to Academy contracts ahead of the 2016 USL season. All three players joined the Rangers directly from the Sporting KC Academy after spending a large portion of preseason with the team. Armstrong and Little both relocated to Kansas City within the last few years from Tennessee to join the Sporting KC Academy, while Tekesky is from Raymore, Mo. Armstrong comes from a family with pedigree, with his father, Desmond Armstrong, a National Hall of Famer. Most recently, Jaylin Lindsey was signed to an academy contract on May 6, making his debut the following day against Saint Louis FC, becoming the first American born in the 2000s to make his professional debut. FIRST TEAM HELP In late March, the Swope Park Rangers announced that the club had added Sporting Kansas City's Jon Kempin, Jimmy Medranda and Daniel Salloi on loan. All three players contributed immediately in the season opener against Timbers 2, with Kempin and Medranda starting, while Salloi appeared off the bench to notch the gamewinning goal late in the contest. Medranda was recalled to Sporting KC on March 31 and remains with the team, while Jordi Quintilla was loaned to the Rangers ahead of their game against Whitecaps FC 2 on April 27, playing 89 minutes in that matchup before being recalled by Sporting KC a month later. Goalkeeper Alec Kann joined the Rangers on loan from Sporting KC last week and earned the club's first shutout against RGV on June 8 before being recalled to Sporting KC a week later. Last month, Salloi was loaned to Vasas SC in Hungary for the remainder of 2016, while Amadou Dia joined on loan on June 25.

GAME NOTES CONT. CAPTAIN DUKE On Wednesday, March 23, the Swope Park Rangers' firstever signing Christian Duke was named captain of the club ahead of the season opener. Duke is an Overland Park, Kan. native that came through Sporting KC's Academy before enjoying a fouryear college career at the University of San Diego. He was selected by Sporting KC in the 2013 Supplemental Draft but did not make an appearance, instead spending time on loan at OKC Energy FC before joining the club permanently in 2015. So far this season, Duke has started all 15 games for SPR. LOCAL PRESENCE IN THE SQUAD While there are three players on the Swope Park Rangers roster who are directly from the Kansas City area, four more have connections to the city. Christian Duke (Overland Park, Kan.), Jon Kempin (Leawood, Kan.) and Steven Tekesky (Raymore, Mo.) were all raised in the

region, while Ezra Armstrong, Jaylin Lindsey, Will Little and Nansel Selbol all entered the club through the Sporting KC Academy, despite not being natives of the area. In addition, center back Tommy Meyer is from St. Louis, Mo. and returns to his home state after spending eight years away. CONNECTED TO SWOPE PARK The team name, "Swope Park Rangers", is a moniker that stems from the days of the old MLS Reserve League. Sporting Kansas City's reserve side would play games at Swope Soccer Village at Swope Park and fans who followed the side coined the name Swope Park Rangers in reference to the team. He also coached in Bulgaria with FC Vihren Sandanski (2007) and Chernomorets Burgas (201011). Popovic made further stops with the Cape Verde National Team (2010), Spanish side AD Ceuta (2010) and Qatari sides Al Dahfra (201112) and Aspire Academy (2014). Popovic holds a UEFA Pro coaching license the highest UEFA license available and also spent time studying at Inter Milan, Portugal Under21s and Serbia & Montenegro Under21s.

ALEC DUFTY Goalkeeper Coach Alec Dufty spent the 2015 season in the USL with Toronto FC II. While with the club, the TFC II goalkeeping corps finished third in the USL with 125 saves and starting goalkeeper Quillan Roberts placed second in the league in save percentage (.766) and third in saves per game (4.80). Dufty had previously coached collegiately at Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Illinois at Chicago. A former MLS player, Dufty began his career with the New York Red Bulls in 2009 before joining the MLS reserve goalkeeper pool. In 2010, Dufty joined USSF D2 Pro League side AC St. Louis, before returning to MLS with the Chicago Fire later that same year. He announced his retirement and focused on coaching at the conclusion of the 2011 season.

JOSH MCALLISTER Fitness Coach Josh McAllister joined the Sporting KC organization in early 2015 as the Academy fitness coach, and has now transitioned into a new role with the Swope Park Rangers. While with the Academy, McAllister assisted Mateus Manoel with the first team, but his primary focus was developing fitness regimens and strength programs for each Academy age group. A Marshalltown, Iowa native, McAllister graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2008 and coached with Heartland Soccer Club, West Des Moines Soccer Club and Sporting Iowa before completing a yearlong internship with MLS side the Portland Timbers in 2014. Immediately prior to joining Sporting KC, McAllister enjoyed a successful spell as an assistant coach for the Drake University Men's Soccer Team.
