Koroyd® provides superior impact absorption, design flexibility, and ventilation when compared to materials traditionally used in helmet construction. By utilizing crumple-zone cylinders that crush uniformly on impact, Koroyd® manages energy more eﬀiciently with less volume than any other protection material on the market. Unlike traditional protection materials, Koroyd® cylinders absorb and convert more kinetic energy, while increasing air flow and reducing overall weight. Not all helmets are created equal.

Developed as an energy absorber in the aerospace industry, cylindrical structures were found to be one of nature’s strongest forms; a form that could offer the greatest impact absorption for a given length. Koroyd® utilizes cylinders to create a structure that behaves differently than traditional protection materials. Traditional materials act like a spring which stores energy and then releases it, Koroyd® is a true energy absorber which converts the kinetic energy by crumpling. This translates into better absorption of impact energy.

ENGINEERED ABSORPTION The combination of Koroyd’s® precise and unique thermal welding process leads to a structure with both extremely e�icient and consistent energy absorption properties. Upon impact, the cores crush in a completely controlled manner, decelerating the energy from the impact and reducing the �inal trauma levels.

AERODYNAMIC WIND TUNNEL DATA

No one questions wind tunnel data and we are not about to start. However, the science does require expertise. Through a partnership with the University of Washington wind tunnel and world-renowned aerodynamicist Len Brownlie, we tested the Ignite and Trace helmets against the current best-in-class helmets using the Wind Averaged Drag (WAD) methodology. This methodology was developed for the automobile industry decades ago but at Brownlie’s direction, has been modified for cycling-specific tests. To make it as simple as possible for athletes and consumers to understand, the WAD method aggregates the drag measurements from several discrete yaw angles into a single “wind averaged” measure of drag. This provides final estimated time savings for 40k and 180k time trials.

RESULTS

Whether you’re talented enough to hold a pro tour speed of 32 mph for 40K, or if 25mph for 40K is more in reach, you’ll appreciate the best in class aerodynamics of the Ignite and Trace. Regardless of pace, all riders will benefit from the progressive protection of Koroyd® and the secure eyewear integration.

Wind averaged bike axis drag calculated using average of multiple runs and wind speed velocity sweep through four yaw angles. At 25mph and 0 yaw, 95% confidence interval is +/- 5.5g. All data collected at University of Washington Kirsten Wind Tunnel over the course of a single day under similar environmental conditions. Helmets were installed on the headform using consistent brow position, strap, and fit system adjustment. Rider head angle was also maintained. Time savings calculated for a 160lb (72.5kg) rider, including all clothing, and a 17lb (7.7kg) bike at sea level with 0 grade and no wind.
