From the late 70s to early 90s, Raichle Boots were everywhere. Bill Johnson and others exploded onto the race scene in the 3-Piece Boot; Nelson Carmichael pushed the limits of freestyle skiing; and top pros were quickly redefining the realm of freeskiing. The common thread? They all had the infamous 3-Piece Raichle Flexon boots on their feet.
“We took this old mold, tested every feature, kept what worked and scrapped what didn’t...” And then, the boots disappeared. The company went out of business, and the legions of dedicated followers were left in the wind, searching used gear shops and ebay for the parts they needed to keep their stock replenished – and their feet happy. Because in essence, even more than thirty years after its inception, the 3-Piece Shell Design represents the pinnacle of ski boot design.

Utilizing a floating ribbed tongue – instead of the purveying overlap design – the 3-Piece Shell offered consistent, smooth power transmission and distortion free articulation. Yet despite the glaring ergonomic and technological advantage, the 3-Piece Shell faded from the lexicon of modern skiing – save the few dedicated holdouts. By 2006, we saw the mounting demand a better, more fluid ski boot. So we purchased the molds of the longsince defunct Raichle Flexon. We took this old mold, tested every feature, kept what worked and scrapped what didn’t. And just like that, Full Tilt was born. Now, over a decade since it’s reemergence, Full Tilt Boots has grown to include three unique shell families, updated designs, and partnerships with the best skiers in the world. We’re skiers. We’re bootfitters, tinkerers, and forward-thinkers. We’ve embarked on this path – diverging from the norm in the never-ending pursuit of innovation – to create a better skiing experience, and we cannot wait to see what the future has in store. Development done right_ Tested, validated, and improved upon – We took our time creating this masterpiece, 3 years to be exact from first concepts. About 18 months ago, after all the science and studying, a large group of testers comprised of athletes, retailers and everyday skiers were given masked prototypes to do a long term fatigue and use test. What happens when you flex in ordinary boots? Boots with overlap closures bend, bulge, and distort at the instep when flexed. As you flex further into the boot, the more loss of fit and lateral stiffness you experience. And without that lateral stiffness, the skier looses edge control. Amazingly, some boots loose as much as half of their lateral stiffness and foot control when flexed forward – the time it’s needed most.
