What Are Non-Violence Studies? This minor focuses on the problems of violence and social injustice, and it explores solutions, particularly non-violent alternatives. It is:

INTERDISCIPLINARY

We use the methods and critical questions of fields as different as literature, economics, and biology. PROBLEM SOLVING

We are focused on real problems and their solutions. EXPERIENTIAL

Students will have opportunities in and outside the classroom to learn and apply what they are studying.

What Will I Get Out of a Minor in Non-Violent Studies? Requirement #2 NVS 461-469 -- Seminar on NonViolence (Pre-requistite: 2 courses in Non-Violence Study) Recommended NVS 381 -- Internship in NonViolence Studies (1-4 s.h.)

What will I do? You will: • Learn about the problems of violence and social injustice. • Understand the causes of violence and its effects on your and others' lives. • Become aware of different perspectives of violence and its solutions. • Practice techniques of nonviolence resistance and conflict resolution and learn their history.

Consult the college catalog [p. 220] for a list of special topics courses which are offered on an occasional basis and are also part of the minor.
