Changes to roles at Leicester Rugby Union Leicestershire Rugby Union have appointed Barbara Crellin as President for the 2019/20 season. Barbara has already spent a year as President Elect and now takes over the reigns from outgoing President Steve Rice. Barbara joins them from Oakham RFC and is looking forward to a full year of appointments with a keen interest in Age Grade Rugby where, like many of us, became involved with Rugby Union when her son started to play. With Barbara’s appointment, they turn to thank a number of LRU volunteers who have decided to step down from their roles within the union. Firstly, they say thank you to Steve Rice. Steve has been an active member of the LRU for some time now with position of both Chairman and President under his belt. Steve has also championed the Leadership Academy within Leicestershire and will continue with his involvement from the sidelines to encourage promising leaders from clubs. Also, stepping aside is Dean Toon. Dean has been the Age Grade Rugby Chair for 5 years and done a fantastic job under some challenging times with changes in rules to the youth game. Dean has also sat on the Executive Committee for that time and the PFR committee. Further still, Dean instigated and managed the creation of a new website which was a lengthy and time consuming process, but definitely worthy of the investment. Dean’s successor is Liz Causon from Hinckley RFC. From the county representative team, they also say thank you to Simon Chaperon. Simon has had a number of roles within the
Leicestershire. Senior men’s and U20s Manager, procurement manager and county cup liaison officer. Over a the past 10 years Simon has had to work very hard to make sure that all players, managers and supporters of all these events have the best experience possible. In addition, Stuart Davies has been working as the Leicestershire U16s Boys Manager for the last three years. It is with great sadness to lose Stuart as he has done a fantastic job in building the relationship between Leicester Tigers young Academy and Leicestershire. Stuart feels it’s time for some else to continue to move this forward. Brian Hesford, Discipline Secretary has been looking to step down for some time, but wouldn’t do so until a replacement was found. Brian is a county stalwart and has held a variety of roles with the game including LRU President in 2016/17. Mark Powell has stepped down from his position on the executive committee Mark was the Director of Rugby for 3 years and saw both the men and ladies win their county championship finals in 2017 under his reign. Mark has been involved with selection processes for talented players to play for regional teams and has also done a lot of work with the Leicester Tigers Academy to bring through young players into the professional game. LRU also thank Yvonne Copson who has been secretary for the women and girls forum, but has decided to call time and we say welcome to Eleanor Wilkinson who has already taken up the position. Finally, they thank Kim Swift who has been LRU treasurer.

James Haskell joins Kings Cross Steelers at London Pride March
Former England rugby star James Haskell joined the Kings Cross Steelers, the world's first gay and inclusive rugby club, as they took part in the Pride in London march. It was the first time the RFU has joined in the London Pride celebrations. Other England rugby players, including women's player Sue Day, and Steelers players walked through the streets of London to show their support to the community. Matt Webb, chairman of Kings Cross Steelers RFC, said: "This year marked 50 years of the Stonewall riots which was a pivotal moment in LGBT+ history. As the first ever gay and inclusive rugby club, established over 20 years ago, we've seen vast improvements in the reception we get from other teams. However our players still face homophobic behaviour and language both on and off the pitch which is a stark reminder why clubs like ours still exist. We are overjoyed with the presence of role models and allies such as Sue Day and James Haskell joining us on the march."

launched by CEO Mark Covington with the support of Chairman Simon Pennock. Inspiration and motivation for the business was discovered whilst working on the funding and development of a new clubhouse at Mark’s local rugby club, Guildford RFC. Having worked in a range of industries, spanning voluntary and major bluechip firms, Mark identified a methodology to enable rugby clubs to grow through sponsorship. Initially working with local businesses in a range of different fields, with the aim of identifying and nurturing long-term partnerships based upon mutual benefits. The demand for SNAP’s services quickly outgrew the manpower resources SNAP had at its disposal and in 2014 the decision was taken to automate the methodology, to enable all clubs, from any sport, at any level, to benefit from the approach to sponsorship which had been refined in the consultancy business. Development of the platform has resulted a fully integrated, one of a kind, sponsorship portal. Having launched the online portal in July 2016, the aim is to help all those who have the ambition and desire
to take themselves or their organisation forward through sponsorship. www.snapsponsorship.com

Wanstead RFC complete kitchen and bar refurbishment
The club would like to give a huge thanks to club members Patrick Martin and Matt Goods who helped with the flooring, under the guidance of Barrie Ward. Thanks as well to Dave Mac for sorting visuals, and thank you to all the other club members gave there time to help out. The cost of this refurbishment was circa £45,000 and would not have been possible if it wasn't for the financial help they received. Over 60 percent of the cost of the project was covered by fundraising, and the rest was covered by the Ron Thorpe legacy we received a number of years go. The club received: - £10,000 as a grant from the national lottery - £4,000 as a grant from the Essex RFU. - £500 as a grant from NatWest RugbyForce. - £12,000 Crowdfunding from their fantastic club members
The kitchen and bar refurbishments are now complete at Wanstead RFC and have exceeded all expectations. Thank you to Andy Randall who designed the new bar and kitchen, and produced all relevant drawings.
The club would give a huge thanks to all the organisations that awarded them grants and massive thanks to their club members that all donated to their crowdfunding page. Without these funds these works would not of been possible.
Connole Bros Construction lead the project and did a fantastic job. Kieran Connole delivered the job on time and on budget and has completed it to the highest standards. The club is indebted to him.

Kendal Rugby Club and Bike the UK for MS raise funds for charity
South Lakes group – in helping raise funds that impact positively MS research, treatment and help MS support groups across the UK. The focus is solely on fundraising where riders opt to stay in churches, limiting their spending, and are challenged to raise £1 per mile per rider – this group contained 12 FANTASTIC riders who not only met this target but also went further to raise, currently, an AMAZING total of £14,670!
From John O’Groats to Lands’ End, a fantastic effort from this group of international riders! On what was a rather miserable day in terms of the weather there was some light shining on Kendal Rugby Club. Along with club sponsors in NFU Mutual, they played host to a group of riders from a variety of international backgrounds, riding to raise awareness and funds for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), organised by registered charity Bike the UK for MS.
15 days of cycling and some demanding conditions – we can only admire and applaud the achievements of these riders and the outstanding amount of money they have raised for such an amazing cause! The club were honoured and happy to play their part for this group and look forward to welcoming other groups for future events!
Chesham announce new club secretary
But this wasn’t just any ride… The group were tackling the extreme route of John O’Groats to Lands’ End, riding 1020 MILES in total! Stopping of in Kendal they were just short of halfway through the challenge and were treated to a thoroughly deserved meal and no doubt, a few pints! Bike the UK for MS is a fantastic cause started in 2014, where through such bike riding events provide support to local MS societies - in this case the Westmorland &

The Club is entering a new era where we are being challenged to grow in every area. With such a challenge, change is inevitable, and we need to be smarter in everything we do. New tools, processes and methods of working will be key. The benefit of so many new faces is that we can collectively take a fresh look at where we are and build on the great work of our predecessors with some new ideas. We must grow to succeed and everything we will be doing will be with that in mind. Key areas of focus for me in the coming months are:1. Improvement our playing and training facilities, 2. Membership recruitment 3. Development of a solid and sustainable financial strategy 4. Smarter use of IT and Social tools 5. Volunteer recruitment, development and training 6. ….. Anything else needed to achieve our Goals ?”
before retiring to the side-lines to be an active supporter and match photographer.I’m no stranger to the committee and have, over the years been, 1st team Captain, Press Sec, Social Sec and Chairman before taking a break for the last few years. I am married to Emma and have lived in Chesham for more than 50 years" The club would like to wish Moray all the best in his new role.
Many of the senior players have known Moray for many years but those younger members or people new to the Club Moray said “I have been a member of Chesham since the 80’s and played in some of the first games the club had. I moved on to be a referee in Bucks society for a few years,

Northwich RUFC expands sponsors with Mosaic Digital Media
Richard has a past connection with Northwich and recalls fond memories from childhood watching Northwich. His late dad Steve (Cede) Wilding played in the 70’s and 80’s, and Richard wishes to keep the legend of his late father alive, as Richard says “by drinking there in the style he would have wanted and demonstrated so many, many times at the club in his playing days”. This is not the 1st time his business has been in the very fortunate position in being able to #payitforward Papyrus, Woolston Rovers, The Puddle Project to name but a few charities have been supported in the last 12 months.
The major change in the last decade has been the growth of social media and the Club’s energetic embrace of the clubs digital channels. This includes the website, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. They have been pretty successful using these routes in disseminating information and getting a wide range of people engaged in following Northwich RUFC. However they feel they needed a more professional media presence generally and Mosaic Digital Media have recently joined our sponsor partnership program, and have volunteered to take on some of their media relations as well as designing a new website. Richard Wilding recently commented: “Our business Mosaic Digital Media and itglu were established just over 3 years ago and now employ 12 people in our offices based in Warrington”. He continues “We have just landed my dream job of building a website and to providing assistance in promoting Northwich Rugby Union Football Club as our charitable contribution for 2019/20”.
