Why recommend kettlebells? • Because of the relative instability of the action, more frequent adjustments of a wider range of muscles (including core muscles) is required. • A kettlebell is ideal for swinging, an action that creates momentum requiring muscular strength to stop and reverse. Swinging exercises are difficult to replicate with dumbbells and close to impossible with barbells. • The user builds muscle, improves muscular endurance and builds cardiovascular stamina.

Supporting sport is what we do YAD Golf Day
Muller Potgieter Memorial 15 km Race Pretoria
Now in its 45th year, this is one of Pretoria’s longest established races. On 30th November the varied route took the 1500 runners on a historic journey through the Jacaranda City. Over the past six years the race has achieved the distinction of being regarded as one of South Africa’s best-loved 15 km events. Thank you to Frikkie and all the staff from Atterbury, Zambesi and Centurion stores who helped set up the efficient water table en route.

outside Cape Town The YAD Golf Day, held on 31st October at the King David Golf Course, has become an annual event with Sportsmans Warehouse and remains one of the few golf days we still support. Despite wet and windy conditions, the day was a success, with 136 players taking part in the tournament. Our Somerset West store not only executed the branding perfectly, but also used the golf day as an opportunity to sign up all 136 players to our database.

AID Trail Run Gauteng
The AID Trail Run Series is a three-part programme held in the Vaal Triangle with the aim of raising R60 000 for the Jabes Foundation, the Grace Affair and Wings for Life – all of which work to improve the lives of abandoned, ill-treated and disabled children. On 23rd November a 15 km race, a 6 km race and a 1 km kiddies’ fun run were held at the Kainos Kampterrein in Vanderbijlpark with almost 700 runners taking part. Among these were three of our Vanderbijlpark store’s own employees, who were loudly cheered by their colleagues manning the watering station. The second and third parts of the programme will be on 1st March at Vaal Park and on 10th May back at the Kainos Kampterrein.
Tom Jenkins Challenge Half Marathon Pretoria
Over 4490 runners tackled this popular run on 23rd November. The route leads through Pretoria’s leafy ‘embassy suburbs’, past many grand foreign embassies. It is, however, a true challenge, as on the way back to the Union Buildings it climbs, via Tom Jenkins Drive, up the notorious Meintjieskop, an 800 km hill constructed by Italian POWs during World War II. The half marathon, 10 km and 5 km races yet again proved a great success. Thanks to Frikkie and the busy staff from Atterbury, Centurion and Zambesi stores who manned our watering point.

STAFF REACH OUT and touch the stars Assisting the Little Angels Our Canal Walk store decided to spread some much-needed Christmas cheer by donating 55 gift boxes to the Cape Town based charity, the Little Angels Place of Safety and Help Centre. Faiez and his team also visited one of the Little Angels day care centres in their spare time and saw for themselves how a little assistance can make many Christmas wishes come true.
Fiji Rugby Sevens team visit PE store While they were in Port Elizabeth for the South African leg of the IRB Sevens Rugby World Series on the 7th and 8th December, the Fijian team called on Sportsmans Warehouse. Both staff and customers were very excited to meet these young players and couldn’t resist the opportunity to pose for a memorable photograph.
