Wally Hayward Marathon,Centurion On Worker’s Day, 1 May, close to 8000 participants ran in this fantastic road race. It’s held annually in honour of legendary road runner Wally Hayward whose 60-year athletic career lasted until he ran his last Comrades Marathon at the age of 80 in 1989. As the Wally Hayward Marathon is one of Sportsmans Warehouse’s biggest races on the calendar, we sponsored two watering points, the second one in a prime position at the finish. 45 staffers from Centurion, Zambesi, Princess Crossing, East Rand, Park Meadows and Cresta worked hard and enjoyed the day. We’re sure to continue sponsoring this wonderful event in the future.
Jackie Mekler Road Race, Thaba Tshwane On 5 May a lovely day greeted the Sportsmans Warehouse team as they set up their watering station for an event that hosts over 700 runners annually. This year the event, which consists of a 25 km and a 10 km race, celebrated the 80th year of runner Mekler who won the Comrades five times, as well as various other marathons around the world. This race was run from Thaba Tshwane (Voortrekkerhoogte) and Zambesi store took charge, supported by Atterbury and Centurion.
Randburg Harriers Kwai Challenge The event, hosted this year on 13 May by Randburg Harriers and Sportsvendo, offers a 21,1 km, a 10 km and a 5 km run starting from the Randburg Sports Complex in Gauteng. As its full name is the ‘SA Pork Kwai Challenge’ it was fittingly followed by an inter-club pork braai competition - providing easy catering for Mom on Mother’s Day. Twenty staff from Cresta, West Rand, Princess Crossing and Woodmead assisted at our popular watering point.
