Production and distribution of immersive audio has become the norm for global events as it is increasingly for major global sports leagues. We’ll survey the World Cup rights holders distributing in Dolby Atmos and Vison and talk about recent moves by entities like Bundesliga and their rights holder to transition to HDR video and immersive audio.

We will have an update from Comcast’s Mark Francisco on ongoing efforts to advance inclusivity forward with Comcast products and services, including audio initiatives for enhanced accessibility. Cohen serves as the vice president of remote technical operations for CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network. Cohen departed HBO Sports where he served for more than 15 years to work intimately on the remote broadcasts for all of the CBS major sporting platforms such as: the NFL, college football, college basketball, and golf. Cohen’s primary day-to-day focus is on overseeing the remote technical equipment and facilities used for both broadcast and cable linear telecasts.

Connelly is responsible for the day-to-day production of Bally Sports’ 22 regional sports networks. He oversaw the launch of the new network on March 31, 2021. Connelly also manages partnerships with the NHL, NBA, and MLB with more than 7,800 productions that include 12 NHL teams, 17 NBA teams, and 16 MLB teams. Connelly previously oversaw production for Fox Sports Networks and led the transition of the regional networks to the Fox Sports brand and FS1, overhauling studios, staging, and sets in more than 54 arenas and studios across the country.

Davies manages all day-to-day aspects of live broadcast operations and over sees the integration of new and emerging technologies for Fox Sports and Fox Sports 1. With over two decades of experience in sports television, Davies spe cializes in technical production and innovation for large sporting events. As the head of field and technical operations, he manages a highly talented team of individuals responsible for the thousands of live sports broadcasts yearly at Fox, including the technical execution of Super Bowls XLII, XLV, XLVIII, LI, and LIV.

PATTI FALLICK, USTA, Managing Director, Broadcast

Fallick joined the USTA team in August 2016 and is currently the managing director for broadcast. Fallick is responsible for managing the USTA and US Open Broadcast partnerships including working closely with ESPN on the do mestic and host broadcasts, global broadcast partners, and the US Open World Feed. Prior to joining the USTA, Fallick was senior director of broadcast operations, and a member of the original team that launched MLB Network on January 1, 2009.

MIKE FRANCIS, CBS Sports, VP, Engineering and Technology

Francis joined CBS Sports in July of 2016 to oversee remote engineering. He leads all technical planning for the marquee events on CBS including Super Bowls, the Masters, the PGA Championship, the Final Four, and the SEC Cham pionship. In addition to his engineering responsibilities, Francis also helps find and implement new technologies to all of CBS Sports’ properties.

SARA GAIERO, ESPN, Coordinating Producer

Gaiero is the coordinating producer for the WNBA and NBA in ESPN’s Event Production division. MARK GRANT, CBS Sports, TV Director

Grant joined CBS Sports in 1998 and serves as a director for CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network. He covers college basketball, including the NCAA Divi sion I Men’s Basketball Championship, the NFL, college football, and golf. A 42-year veteran, Grant has been a trailblazer in the industry, becoming the first African-American director at both CBS and ESPN.

Jefferson oversees signal acquisition, commercial release, and oversight of the Operations Center in Stamford, CT. KEVIN LOPES, ESPN, VP, Sports Business Development & Innovation

Lopes leads the ESPN Edge Innovation Center, and identifies and evaluates potential third-party opportunities in advanced technology initiatives like NFT’s and digital immersive development. Lopes has been with ESPN for 14 years, spending his first 10 years on the programming team where he had been responsible for scheduling and operational oversight of WatchESPN & ESPN3, including 15k+ live digital events, digital collegiate acquisitions, and esports programming acquisitions and strategy.

DAVID MAZZA, NBC Sports and Olympics, SVP and CTO

Mazza manages all engineering and technical elements for NBC Sports Group, and oversees the engineering group, which is charged with designing, building, and operating a re-useable multi-games infrastructure for NBC’s coverage of consecutive Olympic Games. Mazza and his team were instrumental in the building of NBC Sports Group’s state-of-the-art production facility in Stamford, CT, which opened in 2013.

CHERYLENE MCKINNEY, Dolby Laboratories, Director, Commercial Partnerships

McKinney is responsible for the company’s engagements with key broadcast and streaming providers within the U.S. With over 20 years of experience in media and technology, she has worked in audio and video for VOD, AVOD, and live events with sports leagues, broadcasters, and streaming providers. Prior to joining Dolby, McKinney spent 19 years at Microsoft working across multiple divisions including Windows Media and Xbox.

SARITA MEINKING, Fox Sports, Executive Director, Field Operations

Meinking is the executive director of field operations at Fox Sports where she leads college basketball and the USFL, along with special projects. Meinking has found innovative ways to connect people via cloud workflows fostering transparency across production and operations teams. Meinking started her career with NFL Films, moving on to MLB Network and Big Ten Network before joining Fox Sports 8+ years ago.

DAVID PINKEL, EVS, SVP of Sales, North America

Pinkel has been with EVS for over a decade focusing heavily on sports, enter tainment, and corporate verticals in the media space. Pinkel is currently man aging the teams focused on their strategic accounts, key channel partners, and business development.

ED PLACEY, ESPN, VP, Production

Placey is a vice president in ESPN’s Event and Studio Production group. Among his primary responsibilities are college football’s event coverage and leading content innovation across the company’s portfolio of sports properties, as well as the development of new technology and alternative production approaches.

PATTY POWER, CBS Sports, EVP, Operations and Engineering

Power was named EVP of operations and engineering in April 2016. In her role, she is responsible for the day-to-day management of operations and engi neering including production management, technical management, network operations, commercial operations, postproduction, and media services for all CBS Sports and CBS Sports Network’s broadcast and cable properties.

ALESSANDRO REITANO, Sky Deutschland Fernsehen GmbH & Co. KG, SVP, Continental Production Operations; SVG Europe

Chairman

Reitano joined Sky Deutschland in 2008 and took overall responsibility for sports production in 2015 and continental production operations in 2021. Re itano is one of the main driving forces behind the development of new work flows and innovations in the field of sports production.

RICH RUSSO, Fox Sports, Director

Super Bowl LIV marked game director Rich Russo’s fourth Super Bowl for Fox Sports. Russo directed his first Super Bowl for Fox in February 2011 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and continued with Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 from New York/New Jersey. Now in his 26th year with Fox Sports, the celebrated director has won 12 Emmy Awards. He has directed coverage of Fox Sports’ pre mier properties, including NFL, MLB, NASCAR, college football, and basketball.

JAMES STELLPFLUG, EVS, SVP, Customer Success — The Americas

Stellpflug has three decades of industry experience in facility design, engineer ing integration, and production operations of live event TV production. He has spent time helping thousands of sports organizations around the world suc ceed in expanding their storytelling and media workflows, and current leads the business for EVS as the head of the Americas.

CAROL STIFF, Women’s Sports Network , Chair and Stiff Sports Media Consulting, President

Stiff consults with brands and companies looking to get behind women’s sports. She is a 30+ year veteran of ESPN and a Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame inductee credited with advancing the growth of women’s sports at the collegiate and professional level.

JOSH STINEHOUR, Devoncroft Partners, Principal Analyst

Stinehour is a principal analyst with Devoncroft Partners, a provider of market research and strategic consulting services to a wide range of digital media cli ents and institutional investors. He is a frequent presenter at conferences and trade shows in the media technology sector. Prior to joining Devoncroft, Stine hour was a managing director at Silverwood Partners.

SUSAN STONE, MLB Network , SVP, Operations and Engineering

Stone oversees the day-to-day management of MLB Network remote opera tions, broadcast operations, studio operations, media management, engineer ing, and IT. She also oversees the operations and engineering for the NHL Net work as part of the NHL – MLB digital media rights partnership.

STEVE STUM, NASCAR, VP Operations and Technical Production

Stum oversees the NASCAR Productions facilities and studios in Charlotte, NASCAR’s remote facilities, and manages the engineering department that supports NASCAR Plaza. Stum and his team maintain three full-service stu dios that generate live and post-production programming.

PETER WHARTON, TAG VS, Chief Strategy and Cloud Officer

Wharton’s experience includes 20 years of news and live event coverage, engi neering, and management at ABC and Fox Networks; the launch of a satellite based CDN at PanAmSat; and nearly two decades of product leadership at Mi randa (Grass Valley) and BroadStream Solutions.

DUANE YOSLOV, Diversified, SVP

Yoslov offers over three decades of broadcast engineering and technical exper tise to today’s leading organizations across the media and entertainment glob al landscape. Throughout his expansive career, he has helped deliver awardwinning projects to support major events including the 2000 Sydney Olympics, the first regularly broadcasted HD television program, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and most recently, the 2022 Qatar World Cup for Fox Sports.
