LETTER FROM THE COMMITTEE CHAIR Dear TranSPORT Attendee, It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 SVG TranSPORT conference. MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY CENTER, NYC • OCTOBER 17, 2017
ADVISORY COMMITTEE Committee Chair: KEITH GOLDBERG Fox Networks Group, VP, Global Operations and Transmission Services Committee Members: DAVID CHILSON CBS, Associate Director of Broadcast Distribution Services
CHRIS CONNOLLY NBC Sports Group, Senior Director, Transmission Engineering and Operations PHILIP GOSWITZ AT&T Entertainment Group, SVP Video, Space and Communications
Your participation today to discuss the many emerging areas of our business is testament to the relevance and power of our collective efforts. With the breakneck speed at which our entire ecosystem is evolving — how we acquire and produce content, how we distribute it and to whom — events like TranSPORT are more important than ever, bringing industry expertise and experience together in a collaboration that shapes the future of the business. At the end of the day, our individual goals are all the same: we strive to find operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and leverage innovation and technology while maintaining the highest levels of quality. Recent advances have been numerous. IP increasingly plays a role in productions, not just for OTT delivery but for linear as well. Cloud playout, UHD, HEVC, 4K, and the opportunities these developments offer also introduce increased complexity, perhaps even some confusion and uncertainty when it comes to maintaining the highest standards and bullet-proof delivery. As an industry, we must continue to leverage and share our knowledge base with each other — even though most of us are learning as we go.
PAUL SPINELLI Sinclair Broadcasting Group, Director of Engineering
There are also many new partners in our expanding network, especially around OTT-platform support, with varying degrees of knowledge and skill sets. At times, we find ourselves playing the role of teacher, trying to educate the industry’s next generation to ensure that we maintain the QOS and operating efficiencies so critical in supporting live broadcast.
EMORY STRILKAUSKAS ESPN, Principal Engineer, Transport Technologies and Special Projects
It can feel at times like the Wild West. So, as we talk through the promise of the technology and opportunities, let’s ensure that we collaborate and drive consistency in support of this new landscape. It’s a challenging but an exciting time for us, and I’m very proud to chair the TranSPORT committee. Frankly, I’m humbled by the amazing turnout and wide industry cross-section represented today. I look forward to the engaging dialog across the many timely panels on our agenda. We have a lot to talk about! Sincerely, Keith Goldberg Committee Chair SVG TranSPORT
Get closer. Be remote. High-quality local content holds the key to a loyal local audience. But you can’t be everywhere. At-home production means you don’t need to. Send your cameras and microphones where the action is, and feed where your production is.
1:45 – 2:00 p.m Speaker: Larissa Goerner, Net Insight TV 2 Denmark Case Study: Increasing Live-Sports-Production Efficiency Through At-Home Production
Join us for an inspiring 15 minutes where we will share with you how TV 2 Denmark broadcasts more for less. We will guide you through the process of delivering live handball matches five days a week, thanks to at-home production. www.netinsight.net

1:00 – 1:45 p.m. SPONSORED BY HOW IS AT-HOME PRODUCTION IMPACTING THE TRANSMISSION SECTOR? In recent years, the at-home model has transformed the way lower-tier sports events are produced and backhauled and also provided top-tier events with access to content and tools at the broadcast center — all while reducing costly onsite resources. However, standards and best practices for the model have yet to be agreed on. Experts discuss the latest advances in this Wild West sector. MODERATOR: Chris Connolly, NBC Sports Group, Senior Director, Transmission Engineering and Operations PANELISTS: Scott Beers, The Switch, CEO Lionel Bentolila, Aldea Solutions, CEO Kevin Callahan, Fox Sports, VP, Field Operations and Engineering Wes Goldstein, Big Ten Network/Fox Sports, Director, Engineering Michael Harabin, Pac-12 Networks, VP, Production Operations and Technology
1:45 – 2:00 p.m. SPONSORED BY CASE STUDY: How TV 2 Denmark Increased Live–Sports-Production Efficiency Through At-Home Production At-home production enables TV 2 Denmark to use fewer resources to broadcast more live sports programs, including handball matches five days a week. This presentation will explore what it has accomplished and how. PRESENTER: Larissa Görner, Net Insight, Strategic Product Manager
2:00 – 2:45 p.m. SPONSORED BY THE EXPLOSION OF IP CONTRIBUTION: Is It Ready for Primetime? Thanks to IP delivery, sports-content providers are finding efficient and

However, it’s important that vendors help broadcasters bridge the gap from old to new when transitioning facilities and workflows to IP. How will IP transmission evolve in the coming years? What challenges lie ahead?
