Our doctors are given as much time as they need to be doctors. We specialize in all eyewear, from mainstream to unique, and our attention to detail is second to none. We also accept other doctors’ prescriptions.”

“We are a family business and as a family business we try harder. We got away from the controlling franchisor. We want to cater to the needs of families.”

DELMAR — “Building an oral health home for families where comprehensive, top-of-the-line dental services were easily accessible was my goal,” said Dr. Thomas Abele, who, since 1969, has been a pioneer and leader in the dental sciences in the Capital District. “With the support of a talented and dedicated staff, I hope I have achieved that.” By offering a total spectrum of care for all ages, Abele eliminates the need for patients to move from doctor to doctor to achieve optimal oral health, comfort and beauty. Early on, he spent the additional hours of training to become qualified in dental implant technology and root canal therapy. His consistent reinvestment in his practice ensures that patients are offered the latest in minimally invasive approaches, digital imaging, laser power and sedation dentistry. “Dental medicine, most pointedly when encompassing cosmetic dentistry, is definitely an art,” said Abele. “Every aesthetic aspect of a patient’s face must be taken into consideration when addressing reconstructive procedures, whether in the application of veneers and crowns or

restorations with implants.” Because Abele works closely with the technicians of his on-site dental lab, issues such as tooth color and shape are seamlessly addressed. His deep experience in placing dental implants, including the latest in genetically coated bone grafting, when required, and beautifully designed tooth restorations is renowned. Citing the importance of patient education, Abele said, “Although I personally feel responsible for my patients’ oral health, they have to ‘buy in.’ That requires helping them understand why compliance with good oral health habits, including attention to their gums, can make them healthier and happier. I enjoy taking the time needed to answer questions and provide ongoing support. “As much as I have always enjoyed the research and ongoing education that dental medicine requires in order to stay at the top of the game,” said Abele, “I most enjoy the results I see in my much valued patients. They are the ones who make me look good.” — Dr. Thomas Abele

COLONIE — Seems like everyone has a side gig these days, and for MaryJo Aidala, she envisioned hairdressing to be that kind of job. It’s a career path she was familiar with; after all, her mother was a hairdresser. So, Aidala got her hands into it and obtained her license right out of high school. The interaction with customers kept her standing over her chair. Aidala said she never would have imagined this being her day job. “I thought I’d be doing it on the side, kind of thing,” Aidala said about her 30-year hairdressing career. “I wound up loving it so much.” She does have a side gig, though. And, she likes talking about that, too. “I had clients asking me about where they could find wigs,” said Aidala. “These are my clients. I should find out about the wig business and try to help them as best I can.” Aidala is an authorized retailer for Envy Wigs and Hair Add-Ons, the Indianapolis fashion house focused exclusively on providing you a new head

of hair. Designed by Alan Eaton, Envy Wigs offers affordable options, from pixies and bobs to long and glamorous styles. Today’s synthetic wigs are lightweight and designed with a lace-front that provides a natural looking hairline. Envy Wigs also carries a human hair line of wigs which provides versatility. The human hair allows for owners to use a curling iron for styling options. Aidala does not carry fashion colors. The wigs are for more practical use. Her private consultations involve going over the benefits and drawbacks for each style of wig. Aidala job as a wig retailer is a role that helps her community. The needs of her clients cover a wide range of needs, from those looking for a change to others looking to detract from the unwanted change that comes from illness. In her five years in this role, she has seen her community expand. “People come from Pittsfield, Syracuse,” she said. “Just from good reviews online.” It all begins with a private consultation with Aidala at her office location at Genesis Hair Studio in Colonie. Furthermore, homeowners are increasingly interested in enhancing these spaces to make them more usable and comfortable. While the creation of outdoor living spaces can cost thousands of dollars depending on the renovation, homeowners have more budget-friendly options at their disposal as well. ocally owned and operated Quality PM Inc. is celebrating 15 years in business, growing from handling small home repairs, lawn maintenance and snow removal to offer large-scale remodeling as well as residential and commercial construction. The company owns and maintains several properties within the Town of Bethlehem. “Quality PM has grown substantially since we started in 2003,” said Gregg Biche, founder and president. “We started with small repairs and have expanded into large additions, kitchens and bathrooms. We have built single families homes and have turned aging buildings and abandoned lots into commercial retail and office space.” To set itself apart from competition, the company focuses on constantly changing remodeling and construction trends by attending annual trade and training events around the country. While Quality PM signs can be found at many properties around town, they are also a familiar sight at community events and improvement projects. The company recently completed the installation of a 100foot zip line at Bethlehem’s Eagle Elementary School, in addition to a spider climber that they added to the playground last year. The company promotes local events such as the annual Turkey Trot to benefit the Bethlehem Food Pantry and First Night Bethlehem. They donate to local charities including the Bethlehem Community Fund, To! Life, Bethlehem Opportunities Unlimited, Best Buddies and Ring of Hope. They support youth sports including Tri-Village Little League, Bethlehem Tomboys, Bethlehem Youth Hockey, and Bethlehem Lacrosse Club.

hris Tobin has found inner peace and success in upstate New York. Since moving from New York City to Greenville approximately 10 years ago, Tobin said he’s enjoyed upstate life and operating his business, American Painting. “I wanted my son (Kevin) to be raised upstate, and my whole life I came upstate and spent my summers up here,” said Tobin. “I always looked forward to coming upstate to the Catskills.” Tobin was an elevator technician when he lived in New York City, but he said he always dabbled in painting houses. “When I moved upstate, I started the painting business because I was always painting. I’d been painting houses in the city since I was 16 years old,” said Tobin. “In my heart, I always wanted to start a painting business.” Starting a painting business is one thing. To make it successful, Tobin said he uses his gregarious nature to sell people on hiring him. “I’m a friendly, outgoing guy. I reach

out to people,” said Tobin. “I’m active in my church, so I get a lot of jobs through my church.” The message Tobin sends to every person he works for is they will receive a high-quality job that’s done on time. “I have a good reputation. When I say I’m going to be there, I’m going to be there,” said Tobin. Tobin said the secret to performing a high-quality painting job is preparing the work site the right way and using a particular brand of paint. “I believe it’s all in the prep work. I power wash everything I do, especially outside walls,” said Tobin. “And I believe in using Sherman Williams paint. It’s the elite paint. They last a long time, and they have a lifetime guarantee.” Tobin also said he carefully selects the crew he works with on any job. “The people who work for me have a lot of experience … and they’re trustworthy,” said Tobin. “I have two main guys and myself, but on a lot of jobs I usually have at least one more person … sometimes two.”

Others think that their only option is to liquidate and lose all of their assets when they have long term care needs.

TROY — While Judy’s Beauty Salon has been open for five decades, it never faltered with delivering reasonablypriced services to its customers. Age knows no boundaries here as it welcomes anyone, ranging from young children to seniors. Located on 2 Bloomingrove Dr in Troy, it is a half mile south of Hudson Valley Community College, so it also caters to college students, and they can get student discounts. New customers enjoy an introductory rate of $10 for cuts and $50 for perms, whereas the regular prices are $15-20 and $75 respectively. Other services and features include fashion coloring, moustache and eyebrow waxing, hair extensions, frizzy hair treatment, and doing hair highlights.

This unisex salon is open on Mondays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wood also said it maintains its loyal clientele by being supported by good word of mouth, “When someone around town sees someone else with good hair, they typically ask and the person recommends us. oga is about relaxation, even when challenged, and relaxation is about breathing. Radiance Hot Yoga wants to enhance that relaxation. “Typically people naturally take short, shallow breaths,” owner Leah Johnson said. “It’s so important to fully inhale and recycle the air in the lungs, as a lot of stale air is trapped with shallow breaths.” Radiance inserts breathing into all of its exercises, including the ones that aren’t entirely focused on yoga. One of the few hot yoga studios in the area to use a coveted mixture of heat, humidity and fresh, filtered air, Radiance teaches how and when to breathe and why it’s so important. One of the most popular techniques is pranayama, the extension of life force or breath control. By learning how to breathe with certain motions — and learning when to inhale, exhale and how to — people find it much easier to work through those strenuous poses and those extra few seconds of exhaustion.

Radiance aims to teach people that if you can breathe through the struggle in the studio, you can breathe through tough situations in life or obstacles you may face. While most people clench and hold their breath when stressed, Radiance encourages people to breathe through it, enhancing clarity and awareness of the situation. In turn, the person is calmer and more likely to make better decisions. “All of our classes, including the Pilates-based ones and HotHIIT, ultimately center around the breath,” she explained. “As people find the breath, they access more capacity in their lungs. They can do things they thought they couldn’t do otherwise, like holding poses for longer and finding greater range of motion in the exercises. Radiance offers courses including Bikram, Barkan, Yin, Vinyasa, Barre variations, and Hot HIIT. Radiance promises you will come out of class feeling more energetic, relaxed and happier.
