2 Previous versions of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are called "original" because they were designed to protect against the original virus that causes COVID-19. The original versions of both of these vaccines are no longer available.

How can I stay active as I get older?

These 3 types of physical activity can help you stay healthyandindependent :

Aerobic activity

Muscle-strengthening activity

Getyour heart beatingfaster.

Aerobic activity can help you do everyday tasks and keep your mind and memory sharp.

Try these aerobic activities:

• Go for a swim or bike ride

Balance activity

• Walk around the neighborhood — or inside your home when the weather’s bad

• Play a sport with friends — consider pickleball or tennis

Aim for at least 150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic activity.

No problem — start slow and do what you can. Even a 5-minute walk has

Muscle-strengthening activity can make it easier to do things like get up from a chair or open a jar.

Try these muscle-strengthening activities:

Physical activity can ease pain and help you feel better. If you’re recovering from an injury, listen to your body and do what feels right for you. Walking is a good way to start.

Work on your balance.

Balance activity can lower your risk of falls — and your risk of an injury if you do fall.

Try these balance activities at home:

Feeling unsteady? Try holding onto a chair or wall for support!

OCL (Office of Community Living) Provides funding and support to community partners to offer a variety of services to individuals throughout Nevada, including Nutrition Services to older adults, transportation, and caregiver support.

APS (Adult Protective Services) Serve vulnerable adults (age 18 to 59) and older adults (60+) who are: Abused, Neglected, Exploited, Isolated, and Abandoned; Assistance is provided by investigating, providing, or arranging for services to alleviate and prevent further maltreatment while safeguarding civil liberties.

ATAP (Autism Treatment Assistance Program)

Assists parents and caregivers with the expensive cost of providing Autism-specific treatment to their child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

NEIS (Nevada Early Intervention Services)

Provides early intervention services to families with eligible children ages 0-3 years old with a diagnosed disability or developmental delay; Support includes service coordination, special instruction, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, nutrition services, nutrition services, hearing services, vision services family training, and counseling.

LTCOP (Long Term Care Ombudsman Program) Advocates for residents in long term care facilities; Services provided include assistance to residents of communities in regards to long term care, education of the community (residents, facility & staff), and support to families and residents on a variety of issues relating to Aging,Long Term Care, & Residents Rights.

Medicare Assistance Program (MAP)

Medicare Assistance Program (MAP) services are free, unbiased, & available to all Medicare eligible individuals, pre-enrollees, their family members, & caregivers. MAP is administered across the State of Nevada by trained volunteers, community partners, and team members under:

MAP services are comprised of three federally funded programs: SHIP, SMP and MIPPA: State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) provides personalized Medicare counseling to empower, educate, and assist individuals in understanding their options and make informed health insurance decisions that optimize their access to medical care and benefits.

Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) empowers, assists, and increases awareness to prevent, detect and report health care fraud, errors, and abuse.

Medicare Improvements for Patients & Providers Act (MIPPA) provides information and application assistance to low-income Medicare beneficiaries who may qualify for programs that help with Medicare costs and, provides outreach to promote wellness and disease prevention. MIPPA assists with two valuable programs:

•Low Income Subsidy (LIS) - The LIS program, also known as “Extra Help”, provides assistance to Medicare Part D beneficiaries in paying for their monthly prescription drug costs.

•Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) - These benefits, available through the state Medicaid agency, help beneficiaries with low incomes pay for their Medicare costs.

Anyone—a person in crisis, or someone supporting a person in crisis—can reach 988 in the United States through any land line, cell phone, and voice-over internet device. With rising levels of anxiety, depression, emotional distress, and overdose deaths, it is crucial that people have some where to turn when they’re in crisis. Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States. The number of people with a substance use disorder continues to increase. The 988 Lifeline is a direct connection to immediate and free support and resources for anyone in crisis.

And it works. About 98 percent of people who call, chat, or text the 988 Lifeline get the crisis support they need and do not require additional services in that moment. The 988 Lifeline is a key part of a broader vision for reimagined crisis care in the United States. Through federal, state, local, and community partnerships, SAMHSA is working towards a vision where everyone has:

What support is available through the 988 Lifeline?

The 988 Lifeline offers free and confidential support for anyone in crisis. That includes people who need support for a suicidal, mental health and/or substance use crisis, or who are in emotional distress.

What happens when a person calls, texts, or chats?

When a person calls or texts 988 or chats 988lifeline.org, they are connected with a crisis counselor who listens, tries to understand how the problem is affecting the person, provides support, and shares resources. 988 Lifeline crisis counselors are trained to help reduce the intensity of a situation for the person seeking help and connect them to additional local resources to support their wellbeing.

How does the 988 Lifeline protect the privacy of those who call, text, or chat?

When a person contacts the 988 Lifeline, they don’t have to say who or where they are to get support. The 988 Lifeline crisis counselor knows only the person’s phone number if they call or text, or their IP address if they use chat. No one is required to provide any personal information to receive the help from the 988 Lifeline.

How is 988 different from 911?

The 988 Lifeline was established to improve access to immediate support to meet the nation’s growing mental health, suicide, and substance use distress needs. The 988 Lifeline provides easy access to emotional distress care, which is distinct from 911, where the focus is on dispatching emergency medical services, fire, and police, as needed.

Only a small percent of 988 Lifeline calls require activation of the 911 system. Most of those are done with the consent and cooperation of the caller. This occurs when there is imminent risk to someone’s life that cannot be reduced during the call. In these cases, the crisis counselor shares information with 911 that is crucial to saving the caller’s life.

SAMHSA is working towards a long-term vision of strong coordination between 988 and 911 so people in crisis get to the most appropriate care needed in that moment. SAMHSA is actively working with 911 counterparts at federal, state, and local levels as our country continues to improve response.

The United States is experiencing a suicidal, mental health, and substance use crisis:

• In 2021, a person died by suicide every 11 minutes.

• Suicide was the second leading cause of death for people ages 10–14 and 25–34.

• Suicide rates increased significantly among non-Hispanic Black, American Indian and Alaska Native people.

• Nearly 900,000 youth ages 12–17 and 1.7 million adults attempted suicide.

• 46.3 million people ages 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year.

• In 2021, nearly 107,000 people died from a drug overdose.

The primary goal of a Senior Move Manager® is to simplify the moving process for seniors and their families.

SMMs ® consider the size of the move, the destination, floor plans, medical requirements, special considerations and sentimental attachments.

Downsizing possessions and decluttering assistance help seniors make informed decisions about what to keep, donate, sell or discard. This process involves sensitive conversations about sentimental items and careful consideration of the new living space's limitations. Senior Move Managers ® coordinate with various service providers; such as moving companies, cleaning services, real estate agents and handymen when needed.

Once the move is complete, these professionals help seniors settle into their new environment. This involves making sure that the new living space meets the client’s needs and preferences. Next, they will box and bag items for donation, coordinate shipping and responsibly recycle or dispose of any remaining contents. Many SMMs ® provide final cleaning services, also. Our lives are made up of a series of precious moments. Many of us are welcomed into this world surrounded by family and friends, why would our final act of living be anything different? When it comes time to discuss the quality of our time left, Hospice Care is an option.

Hospice is a healthcare model comprised of a team of specially trained clinicians in compassionate comfort care. Each patient along with their family receives a personalized, comprehensive health needs assessment by a physician. With the input and oversight of the physician, the skilled nurse builds a care plan to suit your individual needs. The care plan includes hands-on care from certified nursing assistants, social workers, spiritual and bereavement ambassadors, and volunteers.

Any medication and treatment necessary for the comfort of the patient are covered under the Hospice Care benefit. Durable medical equipment such as oxygen, a hospital bed, and incontinence supplies such as disposable briefs and under-pads are supplied by the hospice provider. Hospice is provided at home, in in-patient units, assisted living, group homes, and skilled care facilities.

Hospice is covered at 100% under Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance providers. If you, or your family, have any questions regarding hospice care or the hospice care benefit, Covenant Hospice Care is here to help.

How to Select an Assisted Living Hom e/Center

The following is a consumer checklist of important services, amenities and accommodations in assisted living communities. Every community is unique. We recommend making several visits, at various times of day, to each residence you are considering.

Consider the following as you assess an assisted living residence:

Atmosphere

As you arrive at the residence, do you like its location and outward apppearance?

Did you receive a warm greeting from staff welcoming you to the residence?

Does the administrator/staff call residents by name and interact warmly with them as you tour the residence?

Do residents socialize with each other and appear happy and comfortable?

Are you able to talk with residents about how they like the residence and staff?

Do the residents seem to be appropriate housemates for you or your loved one?

Are staff appropriately dressed, personable and outgoing?

Do the staff members treat each other in a professional manner?

Are the staff members that you pass during your tour friendly to you?

Are visits with the resident welcome at any time?

Physical Features

Is the community well-designed for resident’s needs?

Is the floor plan easy to follow?

Are doorways, hallways and rooms accommodating to wheelchairs and lkers?

Are elevators available for those unable to use stairways? Are hand rails available to aid in walking?

Is the residence clean, free of odors and appropriately heated/cooled?

Does the residence meet local and/or state licensing requirements?

Does the residence have a means of security if a resident wanders?

Needs Assessments, Contracts, Costs & Finances

Is a contractual agreement available that discloses healthcare and supportive services, all fees, as well as admission and discharge provisions?

Does this process include the resident, their family and facility staff along with the potential resident’s physician.

W hen may a contract be terminated and what are refund policies?

A re there any government, private or corporate programs available to help cover the cost of services to the resident?

Is a contractual agreement available to include accommodations, personal care, health care and supportive services? Are additional services available if the resident’s needs change?

To what extent are medical services available, and how are these services provided?

Services

Can the residence provide a list of services available?

Does the residence provide housekeeping services in residents’ units?

Does the residence provide transportation to doctors’ offices, the hairdresser, shopping and other activities desired by residents?

Can residents arrange for transportation on fairly short notice?

Individual Unit Features

Do dining room menus vary from day to day and meal to meal?

Are different sized and types of units available?

Are units for single and double occupancy available?

Do all units have a telephone and cable TV and how is billing handled?

Is a kitchen area/unit provided with a refrigerator, sink and cooking element?

Social & Recreational Activities

Is there evidence of an organized activities program, such as a posted daily schedule, events in progress, reading materials, visitors, etc.?

Are residents’ pets allowed in the residence? Who is responsible for their care?

Does the residence have its own pets?

Food Service

Does the residence provide three nutritionally balanced meals a day, seven days a week?

Are snacks available?

May a resident request special foods?

Are common dining areas available?

May residents eat meals in their units?

May meals be provided at a time a resident would like or are there set times for meals?
