The Crusader’s Cross is as old—and as startlingly new—as the Cross of Christ, for Christ himself is the first and eternal crusader. Every time a Christian climbs his Calvary to erect in his own blood a cross of contradiction to the pagan standards of the world, another crusader gloriously lives and dies. And so it is that we, the crusaders of this latter day, proudly range ourselves by the side of Christ and His heroic comrades-inarms—Richard of England, Raymond of Toulouse, Godfrey of Bouillon, and their vast and nameless host—as in the spirit of Chesterton’s Lepanto we dedicate this book.

From St. Peter’s in Rome comes the Holy Father’s call-to-arms. In the face of this appeal, so many Christian tongues are mute, so many Christian hearts without the fire which Christ came to cast upon the earth. From too many quarters of the world the P op es

In response to the Pope’s appeal the men of Peter’s rally round to fight the LAST CRUSADE; their weapons: prayer and C atholic Action. I t w ill be the last crusade if this call-to-arms is answered, for there will be no need for any other. It will be the last crusade, too, if it is not heeded, for it means modem man’s last chance to save the Christian way of life.

PREP 31

Ryan gains yardage.

The mighty Prep team opened its 1950 season in the old Grand Street tradition by blasting the Generals from Bayonne.

Big Pat Feenan

suffered a wrist injury while scor足 ing the first Prep T. D. on an aerial from Mickey Hart. The Marauder ground attack was commanded by Don Ryan who hit pay dirt three tim es, w hile D on Ahern scored once. Ahern drives as Conaghan watches.

The papers claimed that Ferris and the Prep would be evenly matched.

But evidently the Marauders

didn’t read the papers, because they left no doubt that they were the better team. And it was really a team affair with Jim Fay, Mike Hart, Don Byan and Pappacio each scoring once. Ferris finally got their chance to score when the bench went in.

Ahern breaks away. 60

SNYDER 8

After a slow first quarter, Mickey Hart drove over for a T. D., but as the half ended Snyder tied the score 6-6. The second half saw Waddleton score twice and Hart tie still another knot in Snyder’s tail.

McHugh was caught behind his

own goal for two points, but after this the Tiger was tamed. Zanowski and Murphy.

Hart gives off to Waddleton.

63

Prep, holding the Bees beyond their own 40, controlled the play throughout the game. Waddleton, Hart and Ahern lugged the ball to the 15, and on the Marauders’ fourth drive Mills scored on a pass from Hart. Late in the fourth quarter, on the Petreans’ eighth drive, Bob Moran, Prep’s defensive back, car ried it over from the two.

PREP 0

LINCOLN 21

The game opened on an ominous note as Simmons scored early for the Lions after a recovered fumble.

On another

Prep fumble, DiNardo scooted for Lin coln’s second T. D. The half ended and Peter’s summoned its strength for an un successful third quarter blitz.

In the

second half, Borden plowed over from the 4, as a great Prep defense crumbled before the heavy Lincoln line.

MEMORIAL 3 8

The sky darkened over the stadium as the thundering horde from W est New York scored on their third play. Lightning Bentzen rap idly struck twice more for a 20-0 half time score. As the second half opened, the Prep stole Memorial’s thunder with a single re sounding clap. Ahern scored the lone Prep T. D. after a pass by Hart had set up the play. Another Mem. T. D. and a pair of safeties; the rest is history. Waddleton gives it the college try.

Ahern breaks away for the lone Prep score.

PREP 0 XAVIER 2 7 The Black Knights stormed across the Hud son, determined to avenge their previous losses and cop the “Father McCarthy Trophy”. The Prep fielded a spirited eleven but the one-two punch of Bianco-Kelly was too powerful for the courageous Marauders whose only bright spot was Donnie Ryan. And once the Kaydet line halted his sparkling runs the waning hopes William J. Ward

of the Maroon went into total eclipse.

DICKINSON 2 5

Although in high spirits over the traditional game with the Hilltop eleven, the Petreans could not lift themselves out of their slump. Berrans led the Dickinson attack with a quick T. D. Ryan, Prep’s sparkplug, knotted it at 6-6. D’Elia and Rosato united forces to crush the Marauders with three more T. D.’s and bring a .500 season to a close . . . but “Defeat may serve as well as victory, to shake the soul and let the glory out”. 72

Conaghan lies in wait.

JERSEY C I T Y . . . offers the utmost in opportunity to the graduate after he completes his college education

A more profitable business operation and greater stability of employment are the natural benefits to be enjoyed from a location that is well chosen from the standpoint of nearby markets, adequate transporta tion for raw and finished products, satisfactory labor and living conditions, economical land and rental costs, low cost essential services and a fair, just and economical administration. Jersey City, the home of thousands of industries, has good reason to feel it fits the bill in all those advantages which the graduate seeks. Over 5,000 different articles are manufactured by Jersey C ity’s diversified plants and factories, ranging from soap to locomotives.
