1954 Petrean

Page 1

In this Marian Year, devoted in a special way to her who is at once the Mother of God and our Mother, the Seniors at St. Peter’s dedicate and entrust to oitr blessed Lady this 1954 Petrean. The theme is Mary— Mary and her sons. Under her Son-filled influence we have found our days at Prep, highlighted as they have been with the great grace of our three days alone with God and the things of God, among the best of our lives. We are in her debt for she has given us Christ to be the Food and Life of our souls— Him in Whom we live and move and have our being. In token of our gratitude we have pointed our book towards her. Let her have the center of the stage We are more

than content to bask in the reflection of her glory.

Enraptured by the splendor of your heavenly beauty and moved by the anxieties of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms, O Immaculate Mother of Jesus and our Mother Mary, confident of finding in your most loving Heart fulfilment of our ardent desires and a safe harbor from the tempests which beset us on every side. Though humiliated by our faults and overwhelmed by profound misery, we admire ahd praise the peerless richness of ike sublime gifts tvith which God has filled you above every other mere creature from the first moment of your conception until the day on which he crowned you Queen of Heaven and earth after your Assumption into Heaven. O crystal Fountain of Faith, enlighten our minds with the eternal truths! O fragrant Lily of all Holiness enrapture our hearts with your heavenly perfum e! O Vanquisher of Evil and Death, inspire in us a deep horror of sin which makes the soul repugnant to God and a slave o f hell! O Beloved of God, hear the ardent cry which rises from every heart in this year dedicated to you! Bend tenderly over our aching wounds. Convert the wicked dry the tears of the afflicted and oppressed, comfort the poor and humble, extinguish hatreds, sweeten harsh ness, safeguard the flower of purity in youth, protect the Holy Church, make all man' kind feel the attraction o f Christian goodness. In your Name, echoing harmoniously in Heaven, may all men recognize that they are brothers and that the nations are members of one family, so that the sun of a uni versal and sincere peace may shine forth. Receive, O sweetest Mother, our humble supplications and above all obtain for us that one day happy with yon we may repeat before your throne the hymn that today is sung on earth around your altars: You are all beautiful, O Mary. You are the glory, you are the joy, 'You are the honor of our people. Amen.
