Ours is a century of search And no age has sought so royal a prize Marco Polo journeying to the Orient or Columbus sailing the rims of the Atlantic never dreamed of a challenge, a search, a victory so great as that of the twentieth century For modern man is headed for the stars And fantasy has become commonplace
And somewhere out beyond those stars God waits for man in his newest venture waits for him to match again the ageless with the new to find that the golden cross of the resurrected Christ is daring enough even for the blue of our age
The cross fantastic and commonplace, challenging and hopeful is young again with the new church of St. Peter

The cross is a challenging thing It tests, tries, proves manhood Christ reached for it with giant joy
Everything that tests and tries us here at Prep makes for manhood if—
The Stations of the Cross in the new St. Peter s I Church are of glass and concrete, the creation of H Mr. Charles Vukavitch of Maywoocl, New Jersey. Ij

0 Christmas Tournament sponsored by St. Peter’si College * * Eastern States Catholic Invitational Tournament
Prep turned in an award-winning per formance this year, taking the Hudson County Championship and the Eastern States Catholic Invitational Tournament title. L ed by Jim Barry, Frank Nicoletti, and W ayne McGuirt, the Maroon Maraud ers charged to a 20 and 6 record. Four of the six defeats w ere suffered while big Jim, who broke Prep’s all-time scoring record, was sidelined with a leg injury. After his return everything clicked. Halligan s men steamrolled through their league schedule, tw ice defeating arch-rival Snyder in three contests that were the season’s highlights. In the county finals, the Demarest North Hudson Champions, with twenty consec utive wins behind them, were run out of the Jersey C ity Armory, 75-40. The one disappointment of the year was the five point loss to Seton Hall in the semi-finals of the State Catholic “A ” Tournament, but that defeat made the next three victories all the sweeter. A t Newport the Panthers moved into the final round with an easy victory over D e La Salle and a not so easy conquest of Trenton Catholic. In the last game A ll Hallows struggled through the first half, but then the Prep squad forged ahead, never to be threatened This eleven-point victory capped one ot Prep’s most successful seasons in its brilliant basketball history.

C ity Champs once again!
Kelly Kaptures Krown.
Special congratulations go to Jim Dugan, Joe Frees and Charley Hoffmann for their great performances as the Prep posted an outstanding 7-1 record in dual meets during the early season. L ate in the winter the Prep mermen swam away with all honors, taking the C ity and County championships and setting eight new records. First-placers in both meets were Junior Bill H oly in the D iving Competition, Soph Paul Kelly in the 100 yard Butterfly, Frank Herrmann in the 200 yard Freestyle and E d Cashman, in the 100 yard Freestyle. T w o more records were set in March, when the Prep swim mers added the title of Eastern States Jesuit Champions.

To Coach Cochrane and his assistants goes all the credit for proving the experts wrong in 1960. The Prep grid-men, under-rated by dismal prophets, turned in a stellar performance, losing only to the pow erful teams from Memorial and M ichael’s. A great young backfield came to the rescue, composed of Juniors Jack O’Dea, John Crow e and Tony Mendolla, w ith little W ellie Davis, on loan from the track coach, as the only Senior. O ’D ea planned and passed, W ellie scooted, and Crow e and Mendolla plunged through to six victories, including sweet vengeance for the ’59 losses to Hackensack and Lincoln. As expected, the forward w all was strong, reliable and rough. Led by Richie Farrell and all-state tackle Richie Graddock, they saved the day for Prep with powerful goal-line stands against Demarest and Hackensack. And at the football dinner in December, end Bill Sinnott was given the award for the most improved player of the year. Tw o well-trained toes also deserve commendation—one belonging to Bill O ’Day, whose long punts pinned the opposition deep in their own territory, the other to Bob Zakhar, who converted sixteen times in twenty-one at tempts and brought the Prep a tie and two one-point victories. And of course Prep won the big one, serving up roast Ram to 12000 fans on Thanksgiving Day.
