Saint Peter’s Prep New Jersey’s Jesuit High School Since 1872
Office of the President
May 17, 2014 Dear Friends, Welcome to the seventh annual 144 Grand Gala, in support of the Saint Peter’s Prep Financial Assistance Program. I have been looking forward to my first Gala and I know, from having attended most of the gift gathering parties, that there will be something for everyone in both the silent and live auctions. I remember from my days in Buffalo, where Canisius High School had a similar event, that there was a great sense of community among the attendees. That warmth was alive and well in the gift gathering parties leading up to tonight’s main event. Beyond the festivities of this evening, there is the noble purpose which brings us together – our support of the financial assistance program at Prep. Saint Peter’s is blessed to be located in the most diverse county in the United States and our student body is a reflection of that diversity. Besides welcoming boys from a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, we strive to give access to the Prep experience to every qualified and interested boy regardless of his family’s ability to afford the tuition. At a time when there is great buzz in the media about income inequality in our country, we stand firm in our commitment to helping students and their families overcome the financial obstacles to a life-shaping Jesuit education. The Gala is the largest single source of funds to close the gap between what our endowments provide and the actual cost of providing financial aid. Thanks so much for giving life to this vital aspect of our mission. Special thanks are in order for the many people who have made this evening possible: The volunteers who have wrapped, packaged, stuffed and encouraged one another behind the scenes; the families who have welcomed us into their homes for the various gift-gathering parties; and especially our co-chairs, Mary and Tom Dombrowski, P’13,’15, Michelle and Jeff Kelner, ’85, P’13,’15, Kelly and John King P’14 and Lisa and Matt Siracuse P’13,’16,’17. Finally, I would like to thank each of you for your presence here this evening and your generous and enthusiastic support of the 144 Grand Gala. You are truly making a difference in the lives of hundreds of young men at Prep today. Sincerely,
Kenneth J. Boller, S.J. President

May 17, 2014 Dear Friends, Welcome to the seventh annual 144 Grand Gala! We are honored to chair tonight’s event celebrating a milestone as we welcome our new president, Fr. Ken Boller, S.J. to his first Prep Gala. It has been our pleasure to serve as co-chairs this year. Everything you see tonight is the culmination of many months of planning and hard work, and we thank Frances Salvo and the members of Prep’s Advancement staff for their leadership and untiring commitment to the success of this event. Thank you for sharing this evening with us! As you browse through the program you will see the many names of alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff and businesses who have been so generous with their time, talents, and treasures. Your generosity is what makes this event possible, and continues to help many of Prep’s young men achieve their dream of a quality, Jesuit education. Whether you helped stuff envelopes, made a donation to the auction, hosted us at your home for a gift-gathering party or made a reservation to attend, you know, value and understand the mission of Saint Peter’s Prep and we offer our deepest gratitude. We know what Prep offers and the value of a Jesuit education. Many of you share this feeling with us. You have experienced it yourself as a Prep graduate, or as a parent, grandparent, relative, or friend of a current or former Prep student. No matter your relationship, your support of this event will help young men who aspire to become “Men for Others” reach the starting point of their own journeys at Grand & Warren. Your generous support is what makes each of you a star of Prep’s biggest and brightest evening. We hope you will enjoy every moment of it! Sincerely,
Mary and Tom Dombrowski, P’13,’15

Auction Rules and Procedures Tonight’s auction will conducted using the iBidMobile electronic bidding system. Our partners from Aaron Consulting are here to ensure our auction is fair, convenient and fun! Their friendly staff will assist you with registration/check-in, item bidding, and check-out.
Express Check-out
If you have not already done so, you may register your credit card before you begin bidding. Simply inform an iBidMobile staff member at registration upon check-in. Once you’re registered, we will keep track of all your purchases and will tally them up at the end of the evening. At that point, your winnings will be charged to your card. At evening’s end, pick up your redemption card at the Check-out table outside the Main Ballroom, and proceed to pick up your prizes at the Regency Room. You must present your redemption card to receive your prize(s).
Check-out and Pick-up of Auction Items
If you choose not to pre-register your credit card, you must make full payment promptly after the Fund-a-Scholar segment. You may pay for your items at the Check-out table outside the Main Ballroom. Cash, check, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa are accepted. At this time you will be given a redemption card to pick up your prize(s). Check-out is from 9:45 – 11:30 p.m.; pick-up opens at 10 p.m. at the Regency Room. Auction items too large to be transported Saturday night can be picked up at the Advancement Office of Saint Peter’s Prep, 144 Grand Street, Jersey City, New Jersey. The office is located on the third floor of Shalloe Hall, and is open Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. If possible, please call in advance (201‑547-6420). All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds, unless otherwise specified. Auction items cannot be exchanged for cash. Successful bidders who receive an award certificate should make themselves known to the donor(s) within two weeks.
Silent Auction Rules
All Silent Auction tables open for bidding at 6:30 p.m., and will close at 9:00 p.m. All bidding will be done electronically. You may browse the items in the auction room, or iPad Valets are available to show them to you. Valets will be available to assist you with placing your bid, or you may do so yourself using a smartphone or tablet. Browse through available lots or tap the SEARCH button to find a specific lot. To place a bid, Tap BID NOW and then enter your bidder number and your maximum bid. Provide your mobile phone number to receive outbid
notices. For Single Bids, your maximum bid will be made immediately. For Auto Bids, the minimum bid is made immediately and then raised by increment to your maximum. If your maximum bid equals a previous bid, the previous bidder prevails. In the event that more than one bidder places the highest bid, the earliest bidder will prevail. A Buy Now option is also available. In the event of bidding error, please notify any auction staff member. Current winning bids will be shown on a screen throughout the evening. You can check these screens for an updated bid, or you will be notified via text message. The winner is the highest bidder as registered by the auction system at the close of the auction. The winning bid must be certified by the auction manager. Please be mindful of lot restrictions, which are noted in the description. By making a bid, you agree to accept any limitations or restrictions required by the lot donor.
Live Auction Rules
The live auction will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. and will continue uninterrupted until all the items have been auctioned. Your numbered bidder card must be raised to bid and will be acknowledged by the auctioneer or one of his spotters. Winning bidders will be asked to sign a confirmation sheet at the completion of each live item sale.
Payment and Pickup
Winners are displayed on a monitor. You need not be present to win. In the event of a dispute, a 144 Grand Gala official holds the final authority in determining the winning bid. Winners pay at the checkout desk and are issued redemption cards. Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted. Present redemption card at pickup desk. Winners who are not present at the conclusion of the auction or who do not wish to take their items with them must pay shipping costs. Auction donations are tax deductible, except for the value of goods and services received. No refunds or exchanges are allowed.
Unless otherwise stated, all auction purchases must be claimed by May 17, 2015.
Thank You and Good Luck!
Raise Your Paddle, Fund a Journey Each day, the young men of Saint Peter's Prep are challenged to learn and grow in ways that help them not only understand the world they live in, but also how they might change it for the better. The school strives “to form young men of competence, conscience and compassion. The academic, athletic, co-curricular, spiritual and service programs aim to foster in students an understanding of the world and the courage to advance the common good.” Saint Peter’s Prep is committed to ensuring that those who are academically capable of attending the school will not be prevented from doing so because of their families’ financial situation. Through the generous support of alumni, parents and friends, Prep has been able to offer some financial assistance to more than 40% of the student body. Yet there remain too many young men for whom a Prep education is financially beyond reach.
During Fund-a-Scholar tonight, raise your paddle to help make a Prep education a reality for a deserving young man!
